Losjien, realizing his magical energy is low goes for a more martial approach littering the ground under an attacker with little metal bits.
Kagyu attempts to fend off the pest but his blow goes wide.
Gortreck connects solidly with the chief droppoing him to the ground where he lays a bleeding mess.
Miyagi-san swings wild with his fists but fails to connect, doing little more then forcing the enemy back against the wall.
Caltrops: 1d20 ⇒ 20 {I am calling that double damage}
The goblin {red} dosn't see the hazard under his feet and attempts to lash out at Miyagi-san. The metal cuts deep leaving his feet bloody but he still lashes out.

Losjien continues to fail whipping his spear around.
Kagyu Mamoru |
Kagyu is alarmed to see the badly bleeding Gortrek take another hit out of the corner of his eye.
I can't believe he's still standing after that! Though he won't be if he takes another.
Kagyu ignores his opponent to lay hands on the wounded half-orc. He prays under his breath,
"Shelyn, please witness this beauty through sacrifice and help make flesh whole again. "
Move incurring AoO, cure light wounds on Gortrek
Cure: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 2 = 11
Shelyn approves!
Gortrek the Honorable |
As the leader fell, Gortrek was ready to accept whatever else was coming his way. Though the leader's fall allowed him just enough time to get his concentration back to avoid another swing, he didn't count on staying on top of things for much longer, until...
"Shelyn, please witness this beauty through sacrifice and help make flesh whole again. "
As he felt his wounds mend, he turned and gave the cleric a nod of thanks before turning his attention to another goblin.

Critical Damage: 15 + 1d8 + 1 + 6 ⇒ 15 + (3) + 1 + 6 = 25
Miyagi-san |
Getting struck with a sword is never a fun experience, especially for a monk like Miyagi. Getting sick of the little bastard, he unleashed a powerful punch on the little trouble maker to try and stop him for good.

Gortrek and Miyagi-san finish off the goblins still in the building. The final goblin, after swinging at Kagyu, rushes in chase but slips and falls off of the suspended sidewalk. In the fall he breaks his little neck. So very sad.. many shall weep the loss.
Combat Over
Checking the bodies you find some intresting items.
1 animal bane arrows
5 potions of cure light wounds
3 skyrocket fireworks
small masterwork chain shirt
small masterwork composite longbow
small masterwork spear
32 gp
You also find a beautiful red chest containing the following:
The chest is itself a work of art—if the mud and filth that encrust its lacquered sides and velvet interior are cleaned off, the chest is worth 150 gp. A DC 15 Knowledge (geography) check is enough to recognize the chest and its delicate etchings of cranes and frogs playing along a beach as being of Minkai manufacture.
six masterwork shuriken
329 sp
112 gp
long hairpin with a red pearl at one end worth 150 gp
gold-and-ivory fan depicting a gecko walking amid cherry blossoms
- The fan is worth 80 gp,
- a crude map has been painted on the reverse side
The map is messy, but a DC 15 Knowledge (local) check is enough to decipher it. The map depicts Brinestump Marsh, along with the locations of two shipwrecks and a cave.
Map is on the tatical map now. There are no more goblins.
Miyagi-san |
With his foe now dead, the monk tried to let out a sigh of relief. Instead he grunted in frustration as he strained and failed to move his jaw. 'Great...' Instead of speaking to his comrades, he grunted and made hand gestures to indicate that he could no longer move his jaw.
Losjien Hallow |
Losjien cleans his caltrops from the ground and peeks round the corners and out windows suspiciously. "looks like they're gone for now." Losjien hears Miyagi's throaty rasps and inspects his mouth. "is there a cure for this any of us know? Losjien thinks and paces
"We should haste to the cave, going back to Proudstumps could waste valuable time in catching the goblins...or what-have-you. We should travel as far as we can before nightfall and set camp in the marsh."
GM Red Box |
Miyagi-san, I still cant believe your rolls on that save, still makes an interesting RP thing for you I guess. Pretty much the voice issue will drop off a bit after a nights rest.
The dex damage will heal at a rate of 2 points per night rest.
Looking around a little bit is clear that all the goblins are gone or dead. Just wanted to be clear on that.
Miyagi-san |
"We should haste to the cave, going back to Proudstumps could waste valuable time in catching the goblins...or what-have-you. We should travel as far as we can before nightfall and set camp in the marsh."
Miyagi immediately shakes his head and grunts, indicating a no to the idea. As much as he would've liked to point out the folly of staying in a swamp for the evening, sagely wisdom would be difficult to convey with a game of charades. So, if he couldn't use sagely wisdom, he'd use practical wisdom. First, he pointed at the loot and made a few noises. Then, he took one of the maps and pointed to the general location of Proudstump's house, trying to say they should bring it there for safe keeping.
Some would call a lack of speaking impractical. I call it a challenge of my ability.
Kagyu Mamoru |
how much more daylight do we have?
GM Red Box |
Two to three hours tops. Your in the trees so it gets dark early.
Kagyu Mamoru |
"I agree with Miyagi. We're running out of daylight. Losjien needs to relearn his spells, and Miyagi has some sort of lock jaw infection. I think we should regroup at Proudstump's for the night. "
Gortrek the Honorable |
Recalling the bounty placed by the Sheriff, Gortrek set about cutting the ears off the goblins and the head off the chief.
"I believe that, at this juncture, retreat and rest is the wise option. However, I don't believe any of us wish to remain with these remains for longer than necessary. If it pleases you all, I will make the treck back to Sandpoint with the ears and head, and use the proceeds to purchase any extra equipment we shall need for the journey into the cavern. The rest of you may head for the Proudstump residence, and I shall return there as soon as I am able."
Losjien Hallow |
Losjien ponders Gortreks offer and looks around at the group. He sensed the monk thought spending then night in th forest was an unnessicary risk...but isn't Gortreks a risk as well?
"Your plan could put us ahead of time, but lugging a large amount of supplies could bring even more danger to a lone member." Losjien paces and looks at all of the loot on the ground pondering.
"Perhaps we should draft a letter, from the Sandpoint 4. You can deliver it along with the goblins head and ears. We can explain that we are on the edge of uncovering somthing bigger. Perhaps the town will send aide."
Losjien picks up the longbow and pulls it's empy bowstring. "at dawn we could scout out next destination....If trouble should emerge, you should take some fireworks as a signal."
Miyagi-san |
"I believe that, at this juncture, retreat and rest is the wise option. However, I don't believe any of us wish to remain with these remains for longer than necessary. The rest of you may head for the Proudstump residence, and I shall return there as soon as I am able."
Miyagi could only grunt in frustration and shake his head at idea. While it wasn't necessarily bad, the context of their situation turned it into one. The swordsman was strong, but he wasn't invincible. Their last fight proved as much. Splitting up at anytime was a bad idea, especially so in this area.
We can explain that we are on the edge of uncovering something bigger. Perhaps the town will send aide."
Losjien picks up the longbow and pulls it's empy bowstring. "at dawn we could scout out next destination....If trouble should emerge, you should take some fireworks as a signal."
The sorcerer also seemed a bit out of touch. If Sandpoint could spare such manpower, why would they need the 'Sandpoint Four'? 'What I get myself into?' were his thoughts as he rubbed his temples. He needed a proper way to convey his feelings to his new allies, lest preventable/fatal mistakes started to happen. Realizing that while he couldn't speak his words, he could still write. The monk moved outside and wrote a message into the dirt with his finger.
"Gortrek: Group stick together. Put proof in bag, bury, hang in tree, bury, or place in water to keep safe. Take back at first light if insist. Only fool with death wish journey through swamp alone when danger like monster is on his path. See in dark just mean see death coming. Even with aid, come close to being downed already. Do not wish you to tempt fate without aid."
"Losjien: Sandpoint give no aid us other than bounty and supplies we buy. Remember why sheriff send us here? No have people to spare. All aid we get is each other. True we can't waste time, but can't recklessly rush either. Must move with purpose into unknown to minimize danger. Also, safety of house sound better than uncertain swamp surrounding cave, especially for monk that can't shout for help."
Kagyu Mamoru |
This was all getting too complicated. In an unknown environment it was better to keep things simple, he thought.
"Miyagi is right, but I don't think we'd need to hide these spoils. None of this stuff is too heavy to carry right now. We may as well bring it back to Proudstump's for safe keeping. The town waited days after the last soldiers attempts so I think we can hold off on contacting them at least for another day.
Speaking from my mercenary background, splitting the party is rarely a good idea unless you're scouting, and specialized as such. Even then it wasn't uncommon to lose scouts.
If we head back to Proudstump's we'll be better protected and can set a watch. Miyagi, maybe we can find you an alarm bell or something while you're still...afflicted."

GM Red Box |
Waiting to see what Gortrek does.
Gortrek the Honorable |
As Gortrek watched the monk write everything down, he thought for a moment.
"My only concern is that we can't simply stop for 20 minutes everytime Miyagi-san wishes to speak. Someone needs to return to Sandpoint to procure something to cure his ailment, and I am the one most suited to surviving on my own. Thanks to our man of faith, I am at full health. I can take one of the healing potions we have procured as a safety precaution. But I am willing to stay with the group until we reach Proudstump's. We can figure out anything past that once there."
GM Red Box |
Ok, we have the first step of a plan at least.
The group retraces its path to Proudstump's over-sized home. The most observant of you can see a snake slither into the house, probably alerting the home owner to your presence.
"Back so soon. Looks like you may have had some success I see. Well at least some of you are carrying undersized weapons so I am guessing that is what happened."
GM: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Once the party fills him in he takes a look at Miyagi-san, forces his mouth open and smirks.
"Offal on the blades I would bet. Sleep the night here and you will be able to talk again, well if not it will be before you can get back to where you found the goblins."
"Gortrek, you can carry stuff back tonight and be back in the morning or just leave it here. Frankly I have little use for gold at this point in my life so you can trust me at this age. Or take it back and report your success, it make little difference to me."
Also having seen the belongings of the goblines he smiles.
"Well you two can use use small folks gear if you want it will be a little less effective but that is ok, it is well made." The he notices Losjien carrying a bow and chuckles. "Well you and that wont work. It is a rare caster that can use a bow like a proper person. How about I buy it from you, I can give you 200gp and a light crossbow. It will be more your speed."
Losjien, sorcerer is not proficient with a bow so you will have a pretty major negative to hit. A light crossbow is much more suited.
Losjien Hallow |
"This is very generous of you Proudstump. I accept your offer. See Gortrek this guy is not so bad after all! No need to leave for town in such a rush."
In the last hours of the night Losjien is still fascinated by the snake he saw slither into the house. "Mr. Prudstump. If you would be so kind to introduce me to your serpent friend. I'm thrilled to meet him"
Would be smarter to meet the snake after resting but Losjien woud not be able to wait
Miyagi-san |
"Offal on the blades I would bet. Sleep the night here and you will be able to talk again, well if not it will be before you can get back to where you found the goblins."
Miyagi gives the halfling a bow of respect for his assistance and diagnosis. With his jaw problem on the way to being solved, he could focus on getting himself back to tip top shape. His jaw was not the only thing affected by the offal, but his movements were as well. So, before he rested for the night, he went about doing some stretching to cool his body down and maintain what dexterity he had left.
GM Red Box |
"Introduce you to my snakes? I mean... well I guess. I didn't name them all or anything, I'm not crazy. This guy he gestures to the snake the announced your arrival "does have a name though. He like to be called Bill. Odd name for a snake but there you have it. Do you have an interest in snakes like I do? Why at times I have had as many as 30 snakes living with me here."
The halfling will cook a meal for you all, vegetable stew, if you are spending the night and since his home was clearly designed for human size residents it is easy to find a decent place to sleep if that is the decision.
I think the only question is if Gortrek is going to head to town and back.
Losjien Hallow |
Losjien is facinated by the snake alsmost to the point of being creepy.
"his colors are wonderful, thank you Proudstump"
Kagyu Mamoru |
Kagyu observed Losjien with a wry smile and raised eyebrow.
"Thank you for your hospitality, Proudstump. You've made this job much easier on us all. "
He said this as he began removing his armor for a night of rest.

Gortrek the Honorable |
As Gortrek heard that his worries about his comrades were unfounded, he acquieced. "Very well. We need not return to town tonight. But given the strange goings on in the marsh, I must recommend we set up watch through the night. I will take the first three hours."
GM Red Box |
The evening passes without incident. Whoever has last watch hears some movement a ways off in the woods. Movement of something big. But it is not heading towards the house.
Proudstump prepares a simple morning meal and you are free to chose where you head next. The new map should be of some help if accurate
Losjien Hallow |
Losjien wakes up from a strange trance. He's not sure if he was fully sentient during his watch. Gathering his travel gear he sees the cloak resting over Kagyu's armor and is still perplexed by it.
He crosses the room quietly to not wake others and inspects the cloak with greater detail.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
His eyes fall back in his head and he lifts the cloak. Surely he sees it now...
GM Red Box |
With a fresh look at the cloak Losjien indeed is able to work out what it is a Cloak Of Resistance +1 which would be useful for pretty much anyone in the party.
Miyagi-san |
After a night's rest, Miyagi rises with the sun once more and gets ready for the day. While still not as good as he wished to be, he could feel the effects of the last day wearing down bit by bit, even being able to move his jaw a bit if he forced himself enough. Still, until it was comfortable to do so, he didn't want to aggravate anything and waited for the others so they could plan their next trek into the swamp.
Kagyu Mamoru |
Kagyu rises at the same time as Proudstump and joins him for morning tea, while he looks over the map.
"Based on this map we found, and confirmed by one of the goblins, we know that they used this cave as a storage place," he said, indicating to the south west corner.
"We also found their chief at this abandoned village here," he indicated.
"What concerns me is if they have any other hideouts we don't know about. Proudstump, do you recall where you've see fireworks set off by the goblins?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Red Box |
"Well, I didn't so much see them as hear the pop's. It's hard to tell direction sometimes out here but it would be a safe bet that, if they were attacking merchants, that they would have come from the paths. I can say when I first heard them they probably came form the village you spoke of though."
Losjien Hallow |
Lojien bursts in with the cloak interrupting a quiet tea time. "Look!" He conjures a putrid orb and sprinkles it over the cloak. The cloak bends incandescently impervious to the supernatural energy. "This cloak is terrific!" Suddenly he realizes this outburst was completely out of turn.
Losjien takes a step back, and starts again, much quieter this time. He leans in whispering
"Kagyu, your cloak is impressive. It must be worn while the Sandpoint Four storm this cave." his gestures almost knocking over Proudstumps tea.
Kagyu Mamoru |
Kagyu can't help but smile at Losjien's excitement. "That's great to hear. And the best part about cloaks is one size fits most! "
He makes room for Losjien, "Join us for some tea. We were talking about what may remain of the goblins after we took out their chief.
I think we should check out their cave and walk any of the remaining paths to ferret out any remaining goblins, if there are any."
Losjien Hallow |
Losjien nods in agreement and sits for tea. While making small talk at one point says "Yes Kagyu, I enjoy the company of ferrets."
As his tea wears down he asks Proutstump about the boats on the map.
"So Proudstump, our map shows two ruined vessels, one of which we will pass on our way back after the cave. Can you tell us anything about this boat?"
Gortrek the Honorable |
Gortrek arose as he did every morning; wake up, polish his katana, stretch, and don his armor. This took quite some time, and as such, he was much later than the rest at getting out and about.
Finally emerging, he aquires a cup of tea and sits quietly drinking, listening to the others as they speak.
GM Red Box |
"There is not much I can say about the boats. I knew they were there but have not been to see them. Lore is that they were Tian vessels that ran or were forced aground some time ago. With the goblin and undead activity they may be worth looking into as is the cave."
So folks which is it cave or ship? If ships which first.
Kagyu Mamoru |
Kagyu finishes his tea and stands up, "I think we should check out the northern boat first and then work our way down to the other boat and the cave last."

After a short bit of travel the party comes upon the wreck of a ship. Losjien and Gortrek can determine a little bit from examining the wreckage. The ship itself is of Tian design and has been here for at least a decade.
It appears that at one point someone had erected a small barricade around the ship but since then both the ship and the barricade have been damaged. The ship has also been burnt.
Further investigation reveals several human skeletons along with a couple of goblin. Any possessions have been picked clean.
There is nothing else of note in this area but if you want the spoiler below can provide a little side information. It is amazing what a good job Paizo does of putting this sort of thing in the modules.
This is the location of one of the two Kaijitsu ships that wrecked on the shore during the storm 24 years ago. The Kaijitsu Star was the smallest ship in the f leet, and having been driven into the swamp by the storm surge, it has better endured the elements. For a time, this shipwreck served as the home of a notorious goblin cannibal named Vorka; this avid explorer of Brinestump had found clues in the wreck indicating the possibility that other ships with similar treasures could be found elsewhere in the swamp.
The Kaijitsu Star is the primary adventure site of Pathfinder Module: We Be Goblins!, which you can use to fill in details for this shipwreck if you wish. However, this adventure assumes that the goblins have already looted the Kaijitsu Star, killed Vorka, and set the wreck on fire. If you’re not expanding this site into an additional encounter area for your game, describe this site merely as a recently burnt-out hulk of a shipwreck, with nothing of interest remaining save for fragments bearing its name: Kaijitsu Star.
GM Red Box |
Moving to the second boat since that seemed to be the intention of the party.
What appears at first to be a strange tangle of branches is in fact the moss-covered ribs of a wrecked ship. The ruined ship lies on its side, split down the middle and mostly sunken into the mud and murky water.
You search reveals a verdigris-encrusted nameplate that reads Kaijitsu’s Blossom.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Other: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
As you approach the wreckage of the ship you can see three skeletons standing in worn Tian armor. They do not appear to have noticed the group yet. Each skeleton has a rusty wakizahi between their ribs which it is safe to assume would be their weapon in a fight.
The party gets a surprise round if you chose to attack. Remember you can take 1 Standard or 1 Move action in a surprise round.
Kagyu Mamoru |

Kagyu frowned. More undead. After what happened to Miyagi, we'll have to be careful of their blades. Hopefully Shelyn can burst them down
Kagyu hefts his shield and moves toward a position where he can channel a divine burst.
Miyagi-san |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
As they approached the ship and readied to engage the undead, the monk managed to spot what appeared to be the name of the wreaked ship on a nameplate. The name itself both wondered and confused the monk to no end. "Kaijitsu's... Blossom?"
Would you say my lockjaw has run it's course and I am unmute now?
Losjien Hallow |
Miyagi, you were cured after a good nights rest :)
Losjien enjoys the journey from the damaged goblin ship to this new tipped vessel. Most of the journey he was quiet poking around at wildlife and odd tree formations.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Although Losjien can see little, he senses the ethereal presence of this ship and his putrid orbs shape at the end of his palms.

Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
As they approached, Gortrek made notice of the skeletons. Drawing his blade, he watched as the others prepared. He stepped forward to place himself between the undead and the priest.
"Speak your words, Priest, when you will, and I shall draw their attention towards your Goddess's light."
