Kiboko casts detect magic again and looks upon the painted portal.
Kiboko |
"Kiboko senses no magic from the painted portal. But the scroll could have been anything. Gandros said he was calling up an army from the otherworld. Perhaps he tried to use this scroll and made a mistake? Perhaps he conjured something and it attacked him? If so, whatever he called may still be here."
Kiboko grips his lance and glances about himself.
Kramac |
I hear shuffling and snorting from the other room. Whatever was summoned is most likely in there. Make ready, and let's clear this place out. Kramac whispers.
He will await confirmation from his companions that they are ready, cast Divine favor, and then burst through the door.

Battle over!
After a tough battle, and licking more than a few wounds, the party has defeated the dretches, apparently accidentally summoned by Gandros via scroll, trying to raise a faerie army for his empire. Mvumbu comes to Kiboko and nuzzles him, licking his wounds, while Kuumaa does the same for Kramac. Qatala and Oret grin at each other as they watch the others...
You find the following items mixed among the wreckage of the vaults: brooch of shielding (30 charges), potion of enlarge person, screaming bolt, wand of shocking grasp (50 charges), a gold necklace worth 300 gp, a chime of opening (7 charges), a platinum and ruby ring worth 1,000 gp, and an unused scroll of lesser planar ally.
GM Otha |
CONCLUSION
Once the dretches are defeated, it is safe for Gandros to return home which he wishes to do. He is firmly entrenched in his delusions regardless of what you tell him. He magnanimously grants you anything you want from among the remains of the Emporium basement. The Almsman is willing to take care of the old man, and help clean up the old Emporium. Venture-Captain Caudron Wallace is more relieved than disappointed that there is no otherworldly portal in the sewers, but mostly self-satisfied that the whole thing was a waste of his time as he predicted.

Secondary: The PCs either slay Randalan and at least half of the Steel Wyvern Thugs in Act 4 or allow them to go free only after ensuring they never again threaten the Almsman and his sanctuary. SUCCESS: +1 Prestige Point
