Beorin Boulderstep |
Greetings. I'm glad to be here for another CORE game.
Have played through Scion of the Skykey part 1 thru 3.
Positive Energy Cleric.
PFS#:76925-36
Faction: The Exchange
Day Job: None. Surviving an adventure is hard enough. :)

Interesting. 3 dwarves?

For those who haven't heard, PBP Gameday V has been announced!
In the first session, I'm looking to run a Core table of Sky Key Solution. I don't think it's likely that we'll wrap this up in time to take this group, though. If you guys aren't sick of me yet and want to play with a different character, I'm open to tier suggestions.
I'll also be looking to play in Classic, so if you're planning on running, I'd appreciate a heads up.
Beorin Boulderstep |
I too will be runnning something though I'm not sure what to run as yet.
I have placed out a few recruitment for Gamesday V. Do take a look if interested.
D'lack Firestar |
Hi guys, I will fly to the US tomorrow.
Don't hesitate to GMPC my character. During the diplomacy phase he will try to help the diplomats (+4 to diplomacy) and will support from afar in case of combat (have the feat for ranged combat, remember he has +1 on each damage dice for fire spells.)
I hope to be able to resume my usual posting once arrived.
I will aslo GM - a lot - at GenCon. My ability to post will be scarce during these four days.
Beorin Boulderstep |
Pretty much yes.
Doubtful |
The new rules regarding credit and death and such, kinda make playing these a bit less fun.
Had pondered joining and applying the credit to Doubtful (thus it would apply once we're done this scenario and he reaches 6)
But the new penalties for dying with pregens annoy me! So am waffling.
Doubtful |
Question: does anyone know if a monk can use stunning fist while grappling?
ie: if I maintain a grapple, and choose to do damage, can I use stunning fist with that?
You must declare that you are using this feat before you make your attack roll (thus, a failed attack roll ruins the attempt). Stunning Fist forces a foe damaged by your unarmed attack to make a Fortitude saving throw
I know a grapple counts as an attack roll... and choosing to do damage while grappling uses your unarmed strike damage. Just not sure if its the same as an actual unarmed attack. Seems like it should be ok, but one never knows.
GM Lari |
Hmm...never something I've seen come up before. My first thought was no, but your argument makes sense. I'll need to look at language more closely and get back to you.
While we're doing housekeeping things, the end of this scenario is not too far away. There had been discussion of following this up with Beyond Azlant Ridge. Does that still sound good to people?
Doubtful |
I'm ok with the plan to continue into the jungle. (Are going to register it as part of Gameday V?)
Though I've heard a few horror stories about the scenario... nothing specific... so not sure what the issues were... still, hope we don't end up in the high tier (D will be level 6)
GM Lari |
Yeah, that one can be part of the Gameday.
Having run it before, I really liked it, and I think my players did too, but I see what frustrates other people about it.
Avoiding spoilers, I think there are a couple parts of the scenario where the rules are unclear, and can be interpreted in an extremely deadly way. For my in-person party, I think it ended up being a a pretty brutal struggle, but in a fun, challenging, way rather than a frustrating seemingly impossible one. As a player, that's the sweet spot where most of my favorite scenarios fall.
Beorin Boulderstep |
Well You may use stunning fist during a grapple as long as you make your grapple check and declare your usage of Stunning feat.
That's how I'd rule it.
I maybe able to play that scenario.
Doubtful |
Hrmm... I realize I can attempt to pin him, but where exactly can I go from there?
Doubtful's not built as a grappler type (heck, the only reason he has the feat at all was due to limited options in Core for the bonus feats =))
Hadn't meant to do it at all here, til he crit poor Imrana and the altar went all evil-spooky on us.
I don't have a rope handy, so getting one would be a standard action.
But I need a standard to maintain the grapple. So technically, I can never tie him up, right? Not without someone else getting the rope?
And aren't lycanthropes able to shapeshift? If we tied it up, it could just turn into a bat and escape?
Pondering future options =)
GM Lari |
On closer consideration, I'll allow the Stunning Fist, so there's a chance your action economy issue becomes less problematic...but yes, based on Imrana's knowledge check, there's a significant chance it becomes a bat and flies away. Pinning would either buy your allies time to get rope out or to pound on it a bit.
For what it's worth, you do recognize that your unarmed strikes will not yet penetrate werebat DR.
Doubtful |
Hmm... more grappling questions.
Pin: You can give your opponent the pinned condition (see Conditions). Despite pinning your opponent, you still only have the grappled condition, but you lose your Dexterity bonus to AC.
Dodge Bonuses: Dodge bonuses represent actively avoiding blows. Any situation that denies you your Dexterity bonus also denies you dodge bonuses.
A creature can also add any circumstance, deflection, dodge, insight, luck, morale, profane, and sacred bonuses to AC to its CMD.
So, if I pin this guy, I lose my dex bonus to AC.
If I lose my dex bonus to AC, I also lose all dodge bonuses to AC.If I lose my dodge bonuses to AC, then my CMD will drop by 5 points.
Am I interpreting this correctly? If so I don't think I want to pin this fellow... as being pinned does not affect his CMB at all.

We're pretty much at the endgame here, though we still have a few things to resolve before I hand out chronicles. If you haven't given me a day job, please do so now. If you're slow track or anything like that, a reminder never hurts.
If you're continuing on for Beyond Azlant Ridge, please let me know what level you expect to be when we're done, for tier-math purposes.
If it helps you prepare, in-tier characters can expect 1,903 gp, and 1,205 for out of tier.
GM Lari |
Chronicles are here Chronicles
Computer's being a bit wonky so they're not quite as filled out as usual. I'm sure you guys can handle the rest.
Dunkel Diggerson |
Thanks as always for another great run.
Something that I noticed has maybe caused some snags is while at the tabletop I tend to roll out enemies in separate initiatives or initiative groups, I almost always keep the initiatives of the enemies as one group in PbP, taking the average modifier for the group. This way I can keep slinging it to the entire set of players after I take GM actions, versus having the weird "It's a single players action" post as a GM since I believe a lot of folks will check in once or twice a day, and if that happens an hour after a player checks in, they go a whole cycle without a post. It ends up having more swing-style combats though, since enemies all going together can be deadly, but players also going all together is pretty deadly for enemies too.
