Bella the professional whistler.. I just saw that movie a couple weeks ago, just to see that scene.

oh, and Clover will be back in 02-18... since that's an eval for me and well, the evaluator has to be there... :)

Been boiling sap all day in the rain, I'll update tonight when I get home from a collection run!
Roark Thunderbird
|
how do you make maple syrup? just collect the sap and boil it?
| GM Puckers |
Yep, pretty straight forward for the most part. Collect maple sap, which runs during freeze/thaw weather (usually late winter/early spring, but some do it in the fall/early winter) boil it down until you get to about 60% sugar 40% water. Usually you are looking at reducing between 30 and 50 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup depending on your tree's starting sugar concentration.
It can get much more complicated with the nuances but basically that's the process.
| GM Puckers |
I believe I did that combat round correctly, please let me know if I made any mistakes so I may correct them, or if you have any suggestions to make that more clear.
PS, GMing is complicated!

You get used to it... If you think a 1-4 is a challenge, try 04-15: In Glorious Battle. Lvl 9-12. Combat has loads of moving parts... :)
... and zombos that go boom... the end of the first combat looks like some graph you'd see on TV...
Oh, and Bella and Khiari share HP.
You're doing fine, though :)
I do think you were going for the vulture look with Roark sticking his head into the doggy's skull... :)
04-15 Battlemap with multiple areas of effect (had 3 zombies go boom)...

Bella and Khiari share the same HP pool. Do note if we are hit with the same effect at the same time (like we're caught in a fireball, for example) we only take damage once. We always take the greater change in hit points.
On the plus side, we're two entities so we can benefit from Battle Medicine twice.
| GM Puckers |
Thanks.
Also, replying to a long post has some cut off? That's bogus.
Bella Sidare

Yes, the forum has a limit on long posts, and it never shows spoilers in the repost either. I can't wait for the eventual update to the forums.
I usually have 2 posts: one for the NPC actions and another for the round status/who is up next.
| GM Puckers |
I tried to keep this update brief enough to avoid any cut off at the end. I succeeded.
| GM Puckers |
Can someone please bot Fran? If not I'll bot her this evening and move us along. Its a beautiful spring day here and I've got lots of yard work to enjoy/trudge through.

I am packing for another convention happening this weekend. We will be driving most of tomorrow and Monday. It is a new convention for me, so I don’t know how the connectivity will be.
Roark Thunderbird

Hilary going with you?
| GM Puckers |
Enjoy the unknown! If needed we'll keep that scorched blanket of yours going.
Vardarel

I may need to replace the blanket after this adventure. :)
Yes, Hilary is with me. She is doing author tables of Heidmarch Heist and Yesteryear’s Hope.
| GM Puckers |
A worthy sacrifice!
Could someone please bot Fran and I'll move us ahead afterwards.

Same here... Dad had to be rushed to the ER 1 AM Monday (last week, obviously! :) ) morning. He's coming home tomorrow but it's been a crazy week... Mekking ambulance even broke down during transport. Had to make several Will saves not to threaten the ambulance crew with bodily harm...
| GM Puckers |
Oh geez, that's a stressful week. Hope he's doing well, which I expect is the case if he's coming home.
Roark Thunderbird

I should have the ambulance crew inhale a good lungful of Meat's exhaust and have Khiari dance all over them :)

I have placed Vardarel at what looks like the peak of the hospital roof. If we can’t get a tower of some sort that provides a better view, he will be there with a ladder set up so he can get easily get down.
If no one has a better placement, the alarm will be placed to cover the hospital or command tent — whichever is less protected. Password if hospital is “Doc” and command tent is “Boss.” Signs at the border with a reminder would be nice.
Vardarel would like to get a nap before doing 8 hour watch overnight.

It appears someone put up a lot of fencing. I would like to discus this.
First can we please get a ruling from the GM on if some sort of tower could be built and how much material is required? I’m not looking for anything fancy, just an elevated platform than can be stood on which gives a good range of vision and is higher than all the fences, tents and buildings. Probably 20’ tall? Add a ladder or knotted rope to climb up and down it.
I had asked that some of the materials be saved to make a watch tower. There is more fencing than we were allowed, so that wouldn’t be possible.
The way the fences are arranged is probably going to get in our way more than the attackers since it would provide cover to the attacking cats. I am hoping to be able to use a longbow to attack.
No one sleeps in the supplies area, so there is no reason to put up fences there.
I would really like to discus the use of fencing as a group.
Bella Sidare
|
I threw something up so we could have a default if no one pipes up.
If we can form chokepoints in the camp, we can force enemies into melee and reduce how many are able to raid the worker tents.
I'm fine with rearranging or reserving some of the fences to reduce cover and build a tower. We can remove from the supplies area first. My concern was that they could sabotage the bridge by destroying supplies and buying more overall time.
Vardarel
|
If the concern is them destroying supplies, I have no problems with fencing off the supplies so that there is less access to that area from the fence side.
I guess we wait for the GM to give a ruling on a potential watch tower, then reduce the fencing appropriately.
| GM Puckers |
Sorry, road trip all day today.
The tower is a good idea. Considering you are using less or similar amounts of wood to frame out a tower than a solid picket style fence, I'd say 5' of tower framing per 5' of fence length and however high you wish to go, plus 5' worth for the top platform? If you wish to devote more fencing per 5' in height it would lower the DC.
Let me know how high you want this thing and who's making the engineering/woodworking/crafting check to determine just how sturdy this puppy is! Or I can make the check using an estimated goblin foreman bonus.
As far as cats destroying supplies, so far they haven't mentioned any supplies being targeted in the night time attacks, only late night gobbo snacks.
Vardarel
|
I am guessing, but 25’ - 30’ high should give a good view of the area. I would expect to be able to see over the hospital and command tent to the area beyond the fence with one that high.
So somewhere between 6-8 slats of fencing.
So who either has good Crafting or Engineering Lore? Where is Stitch at a time like this? :)
Placed a 2x2 box in green for the tower on the map. We will need to adjust the fencing a little and should look at firing lines from the tower, make sure the fences don’t block them.
Fran Rosemont
|
Fran's got Crafting +10; guess she can be the backup when Stitch isn't around :P actually, looks like Nicole has a +12! Fran's still happy to help if needed, of course.
I'm also good with Vardarel's tower plan in general, heh.
Vardarel
|
Adjusted the amount of fencing so 6 slats go to the tower and the rest is fencing. Added slats on either side of the command tent in an effort to prevent false alarms from goblins. Alternatively, we could probably just use some rope to keep the goblins from crossing into the alarm area.
Most of the fencing around the supplies area got used for the tower. I wouldn’t mind swiping two more fence pieces for the tower, but I didn’t want to undo too much of Bella’s placement.

IIRC, Aid DC was dropped in the remaster to encourage more teamwork.
At level 1, a DC 20 Aid check was too risky. You probably had between +4 to +7 on a useful skill, so there was a non-trivial chance of crit failing. But now DC 15 is within reach. May as well try.
Hopefully that gets newcomers to do something besides Strike 3 times in a turn.
Vardarel
|
Oh sweet, they dropped the Aid DC for Remaster? Excellent!
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised but now the typical DC is 15 and the FAQ for society play (6th item under general) now says:
[UPDATED] Do table GMs have the ability to adjust the DC of a check to Aid, or is it set to the typical DC of 20, listed in the Core Rulebook?
Use DC 15 unless otherwise stated in the adventure. For particularly effective means of Aiding, the GM should consider giving the PCs a circumstance bonus on the check to Aid.
This FAQ was updated on November 15, 2023, to bring it in line with the Pathfinder Remaster Aid DC.
Unless the scenario specifically gives a different DC, the DC for Aid should be 15.
| GM Puckers |
Yes there was almost never an instance at low levels I'd considering trying to aid a check. DC20 was way too high.

As far as being able to see, looking at the macros table and discussion: Roark, Khiari, and Mr Midnight all have low light. Everyone else is normal vision then? Please locate your tokens on the map for the night watch, and comment on patrol activities and exploration modes so we can begin!
Vardarel also has low-light. I have now added that to the notes in the macros sheet.
Vardarel’s Initiative modifier isn’t calculating correctly. He is set for Search so it should be using Perception. His perception is 10 while his initiative is listed as 7.
| GM Puckers |
Ok. I have a feeling maybe that line in the macro sheet is having issues, formula got screwed up or something. Thanks for the update. I'll kick off things tonight when I get home. I've got lots of reading up to do on things to set up.
| GM Puckers |
Bella: You do not have line of sight to the cat as its behind the wall. Vardarel only does because he's on top of the tower.

Sorry to hear that! Hope you can recover your data and get things working again soon.
It's mostly application data since most of what I have is in the cloud. Still a PITA...
Roark Thunderbird

btw, GM, how's your test drive of an orcish bard in 04-01? :)
| GM Puckers |
Hard to say for sure since there is another bard and mostly just spend the combats striding lol.
Roark Thunderbird
|
Is everyone going to be lvl 5 after this adventure? Because if everyone's lvl 5 then Roark is missing one chronicle...
Bella Sidare
|
Bella is at 40 XP right now. She will need 2 adventures to hit level 5.
| GM Puckers |
Stitch is also at 40xp, so 44 after this. 48 is level 5.
