Goin' to the DMV (oh boy!)
Hah seeya Monday!
GM Kiora
Definitely a big reveal. I'm pretty sure none of this happened in my play through of the first book. Library visit is way more logical with this background instead of a random "save people" stop. :)
A lot of the details of the various factions, and the biiiiiggg picture isn't really explained until the later volumes of the AP - so if the GM doesn't take the time to dig into the setting articles and read ahead it'd be hard to really carry out the instructions "The librarians explain to the PCs the existence of the Riftwardens." - that is literally all it says!
Also I thought it was silly that the librarians would do this considering Aravashnial should be the reason you go there in the first place and he is a Riftwarden (the librarians were just librarians) - so yeah - that didn't happen XD
But I figured this would be a good place to set up some ideas/plot points/ethical dilemmas that you'll have to dwell on much, much later even though right now Ary is correct in saying this is all way above your pay grade :p
Just waiting on Markus to check in right now!

Wait, we get paid? :P
Ary Bishop
Sure. But it all goes into a 401k that can't be taken out until we reach Iomedae's Legion. :3
Li'an Va'ardalia
I think this is Markus's Zombie day, so might be a while before we hear from him. No rush though! :)
And I'm pretty sure nobody's cashing checks in Kenabres right now, so unless you want a payday loan from Horgus... :p
Ary Bishop
*Holds up sign*
Will work 4
Salvation
:o
Ehren Ferron
A shame though, an I.O.U. or letter of credit or whatever might actually be more practical since gold has weight in this game. Without a bag of holding, carrying around our phat loot might be troublesome...
Unless it's all just material wealth, in which case we can bling ourselves out.
Li'an Va'ardalia
Do we get overtime for saving the world? :P

I wonder who you might know who is good at storing vast amounts of money '-'...
But yeah - a lot of the wealth in this game is tied up in artifacts and things that I'm a stingy enough GM to make you put in some honest effort into finding a buyer for.
But hopefully you actually want to use those things and not pawn them off :p what with ABP and all

Well, if his home's not intact, I suppose we could always just toss our gold into the big hole in the ground that's in its place. With his permission of course, as it'd still technically be his land. ;P

We also have Anevia's lockbox! :)
Markus Coffinborn
A lot of it feels above Ary's paygrade. :p
Despite the fact that she's versed in the planes, a mystery cult that handles all of this all the time is alien to her. I think she's still decidedly more concerned with the individual than with the big picture at the moment. :)
I like XKCD, and I appreciate the explained version. :)
I hear a lot of good things about girl genius, but haven't picked it up.I couldn't do Schlock. I hear good things, but it isn't for me. :p. If I remember right, it's Monty-Python-esque humor... and I don't get Monty Python. Shaaaame
Good luck at the DMV. See you tomorrow ;)
My favorite webcomic by FAR so far is Oglaf. It's very graphic, so if you don't like boobs everywhere, don't look a it, but it's also just very....weird. And I like that.
As far as my schedule... I do have work for the next several days, but it's in the afternoon. I should be able to answer things daily.
Li'an Va'ardalia
I saw a link to Oglaf on Erfworld. Haven't taken a look though, 'cause it's NSFW and I do most of my comic reading while I'm having my morning coffee at work, or during lunch. Maybe I'll try to take a look at it one of these evenings when I'm done playing through Pillars of Eternity.
Valaria Alazario
I favor Order of the Stick, Keychain of Creation, and Not a Villain. I've been points to a few more interesting ones recently too, but I haven't read enough to see how much I like them yet.
Ehren Ferron
Yeah, Oglaf is pretty funny if you don't mind the lewdness. Granted, some of the SFW ones are arguably some of the funniest (though navigating the site at work is treacherous regardless).
Asides from Oglaf, Order of the Stick, and Goblins, I also read Go Get a Roomie (NSFW) and The Dreadful (I honestly couldn't tell you why, though :/).
Markus Coffinborn
As far as responding with shock and awe (like what everyone else is doing) I'm not sure that Markus really needs to. He already kinda knew what was going on with the Riftwardens and it doesn't surprise either of us that Aravashnial is one of them.
Although he does want to know the answer to the question all of you have already asked: "Why was it the Riftwardens wanted to do so badly?"
Ary Bishop
7,867 pages.
That's how long Homestuck is. And it's my favorite webcomic. By far.
It doesn't follow the normal webcomic format, either. Nearly every page has animations. And there are even some 10+minute long videos when things go down. It has ~50 characters, and I care about all of them except for maybe 5, and care very deeply about several amongst that group.
It has a -lot- going on. It's very long. I don't think I could ever do it again. The start is -really- slow. But it is so good once it gets going.
It has literal pages of text where characters have huge conversations (that matter, and frankly don't really aside from setting up how the characters feel about one another and inane topics like horses. I'd be scared to know how many words I've read of this webcomic.
Okay, gushing done. :>

It's cool - I just get hyper-conscious about whether or not I'm moving things too quickly - so when something important happens I try to make sure everyone has a chance to respond :)

I for one really appreciate that you do that, as it takes a lot of the onus off of me to feel like I'm either pushing too hard or not hard enough for things to move forward. I'm sure others feel similarly. :)

I certainly don't mind. I do the same thing when I GM too.

Well... Ary's been put back in her place, methinks. Shows her to get uppity and start feeling like she can make a difference ;)

Don't worry about it too much.
Val just has a bit of an innate distrust of authority. Seeing a major organization planning to sacrifice half a dozen nations because they say it's for the good of everyone else basically confirms a lot of the bad things she thinks about big organizations, at least in her head.
Ary Bishop
Thank you! I'd been thinking about (and lazing away from) doing that with a google doc. :p
Li'an Va'ardalia
Back post Nap. Hooray for naps!
We've got quite the caravan now. I'd forgotten how big of an entourage you get at this point, probably because the NPCs blended into the background so much more. Now we just need to hope that Horgus has a stocked larder :P
Ary Bishop
Need I remind you of his station, of his portrait, of his description, or of the number of friends of equal station he has?
So long as Gwerm Manner stands, there will be food. :P

Actually, in the AP, all of the people you rescue are supposed to insist that they remain wherever they are (like the librarians would insist that they remain in the library to recover the books) I think this was done to keep the PCs "unburdened" as they explore Kenabres (you start needing to keep someone like Ary to guard the NPCs, which cuts a player out of a fight sometimes)... When I read that I thought to myself that given what is going on that is a bit absurd.
So my mind actually went the opposite direction and I started envisioning the heroes marching through a post-apocalyptic city, leading a small horde of survivors to safety. That seems mythic.
I'm glad your GM thought the same way :O

Yup, even in that previous game we ended up bringing them with us. What kind of hero would allow anyone to stay alone without food/water--and really without shelter, 'cause no one we've met had anything even close to secure shelter--in a town full of roaming cultists and demons?
Ary Bishop

Hey. The kids have shelter. And absolutely nothing could go wrong with hiding out in a library twice. :P

You left out the "with an angry prick of an ex-crusader looking for revenge after getting tricked roaming out there somewhere.", although I admit that's specific to our campaign ;)

phat loots?!?! *rains loots*
and such lightweight loots too ;)

I leave for 20 minutes to go get food and come back to 15 posts. Is this what it feels like to be someone-that-isn't me? :O
Ary Bishop

On the note of three pound starknives: They weigh nearly as much as a longsword and half again as much as a short sword, while functionally being a little less strong than daggers, with slightly better weighting. How have I never noticed this? :S
Valaria Alazario
Well, based on their art, they're more like four daggers put together in the shape of a star, so it kind of makes sense that they're heavy. And technically they're the same power as daggers, just with a 20x3 instead of a 19-20x2 crit range.
Which unfortunately doesn't help much with the house rules :P
Ary Bishop
Well, even in normal builds, I'd favor the range over the multiplier, just for other effects, like butterfly sting and being a magus and such. :P
But that's probably just my valuing it a little differently. :)

Yeah, me too. Keen Rapiers are my jam, especially once Fencing Grace became a thing. Starknives just fit Val better though. Praise Desna!

I was seriously thinking of taking them so I'd have more stuff to throw in an emergency, but 3 lbs each is just crazy :P

As Ary continues to attempt to earn access to Aravashnial's knowledge, if not his respect, she begins to wonder when she will run out of feet to stick into her mouth. :|

You have much to learn about grumpy old elf wizards Ary. There's literally no end to the number of feet they're able to cause you to conjure into your own mouth :p

@Ehren: Ary is significantly more likely to muss your hair than Fenna's. So 'when they stop thinking of you as a child' is up for debate. :3 Nevar.

Apparently Li'an's got a bit of grumpy elven wizard in her too, I think she just successfully cast summon Ary's foot I :p
Ary Bishop
3: Snap.
On the bright side... Ary is managing to play the third lowest Charisma in the party rather well, I think. :P
Li'an Va'ardalia
Ary's still got average charisma, I think she's just got an innate sense that allows her to say exactly the wrong things at the right time. It's like the opposite of the human silver tongue trait :p
In this case it wasn't Ary that provoked a reaction though ;)
