Re: Restoration and Healing.
Bearing in mind that not every party is going to have a cleric, or even an oracle, things like Restoration (and even healing wounds) becomes rather difficult. Imagine if Hrut had miraculously failed his fort save against some spider's strength sapping poison five times. Suddenly, he's got the same strength as Li'an (exaggerating). And he has to deal with that for days without that potion. It keeps us down for far longer than we'd like. The healing potions are also there because of delayed access to healing spells for nonclerics, I think.
Re: Hierophant:
Don't forget that Trickster can snatch a single power from someone else, and you can also dualpath. :)
Re: Garil:
:| CE? Wut? Ary's bad at sense motive, cause I thought 'Chaotic Neutral' from what I read. XD
Ary doesn't mind sponsoring him, at all; I mean... it's her fault he's even getting dragged around with us. :P He doesn't really need her guidance right now, though, it looks like. :)
What will I roll to give an aid-another should it be necessary?
Li'an Va'ardalia
I actually had that happen early on in Carrion Crown with the wizard being paralyzed from repeated failures vs. poison. Thankfully that AP is also chock full of restoration potions, scrolls and wands.
Need two Enduring Blessings in order to pick up 1 minute buffs (must become dragon permanently! :p ), so it'd really need to be a dual-path setup. If it's a hierophant/trickster, I'd be really tempted to go human oracle with racial heritage kobold to pick up Scaled Disciple to allow progression as an Oracle/Dragon Disciple. I suppose with proper choice of mystery, spells, traits and feats I could get a trickster out of it, it would just take a lot of thinking to make it not feel kluged into the role.
Ary Bishop
I think that APs realize that what they do to you shouldn't last as long as the base rules suggest they do; no one wants to play a 2 dexterity wizard for longer than one battle (I'd hazard that they'd really rather not even do that.
Oracle's Wrecker Curse with natural attacks would actually be pretty darn cool. Break things with a touch, as it hands you disable device. I'll... have to put that in my think-tank for ways to make Wrecker cool without making my character kinda stupid. :P

Maybe multiclass into/from the breaker barbarian, then go rage prophet? Maybe that's just the easy way out though. :P

Nat one. He convinces me that pillaging is a perfectly normal, perfectly human thing to partake in. :P

Great, now Fen'wen is going to have to help Ary's saves against devolving :p
"Bad Ary, no pillaging! We do not crush our enemies, nor do we see them driven before us so we can hear the lamentations of their women! Bad!"
Markus Coffinborn
I'm glad we're trying to redeem that rogue, though. Or rather, he's trying to redeem himself.
Speaking of healing, Markus is probably picking up most of the important healing spells as we level, so we'll have a pretty reliable archmage healer in the party.
Li'an Va'ardalia
I am too actually, it's nice to see Ary's gamble pay off even a little bit.
Yeah we should end up with really good healing between your spontaneous access to some really good healing spells (breath of life at 5 and heal at 7), and Ehren's spontaneous conversion and channeling as we level.
Starting at 10 Li'an will be able to steal spells from the white necromancer spell list in a pinch too, so she'll eventually be able to cast various cure spells and breath of life in an emergency. She'll also be able to place contingent heal on people if she has scrolls or a staff.
Markus Coffinborn
I don't get restoration, but I do get neutralize poison. And I get lesser restoration for free next level. I even get access to raise dead, but there are too many good 5th-level necromancy spells for me to pass up. suffocation is my favorite 5th-level spell.
I also get some pretty good cleric-y buff spells from my patron - prayer, blessing of fervor, greater heroism.
I'll be pretty good. I'm just afraid of reliably having offensive spells, actually.
Ehren Ferron
Yeah, the lack of the higher level restoration spells is the big issue with Ehren as a healer. There may be some ways of getting around that later on, but until then his healing is limited to hit points.
Markus Coffinborn
- and ability damage. Ehren gets lesser restoration, remove disease and neutralize poison, right?
Ehren Ferron
Yeah. I am mostly concerned about ability drain and negative levels though; I don't think any of us are equipped to deal with those, unless there's something mythic that helps that I missed.
Li'an Va'ardalia
Unfortunately the alchemist spell list isn't an actual arcane spell list I think, or I'd be able to steal restoration from that.
We can always aim for having a cohort that fills the gap if it becomes an issue. Or get a rod or staff that can cast it.
Markus Coffinborn
break enchantment is on the bard spell list. Remove curse and remove disease are on the witch spell list. Reincarnate is a witch spell, as is raise dead.
Ehren Ferron
Once Ehren gets his fourth spell level, you guys could always rely on the good ol' reincarnate roulette if you die. :P

Scrolls of Raise Dead or Resurrection are probably the best bet for bringing people back at mid-levels. They're on the white necromancer spell list, and even if Markus can't use them for some reason, Li'an can UMD it. Otherwise we'll end up with Hrut coming back as a Honey Badger or something :p

Honey badger dont care! You see those howlers trying to stick him? Nothing stops the honey badger! Honey badger dont give a $hit.
Ehren Ferron
Okay, so are there any arguments against reincarnation? ;P
In all seriousness, the spell is terribly circumstantial. Unless a particular occasion came up, I'd only ever consider it if I were playing a reincarnated druid (another archetype I just have to try one day).
Markus Coffinborn
Personally, I like reincarnation a lot. It's available easier than raise dead, and turning into random races is fun sometimes.
Markus probably wouldn't want to be raised at all, but most of my characters wouldn't mind being reincarnated.
Ary Bishop
Honestly, I think Ary would fully support being reincarnated as opposed to raised. :P
Ehren Ferron
Ehren wouldn't mind himself, I suspect. The mechanics of the spell are a little wonky, though. Some of the text insinuates that only your physical ability scores should be affected (this makes the most sense to me), but by RAW you'd lose any and all mental ability score bonuses, with nothing in return.
Unless it does work that way. Hard to tell, and a lot of the threads I look at on here certainly don't help. :P
Valaria Alazario
I'd prefer to be raised than reincarnated if I can help it. I like being a tiefling.
Li'an Va'ardalia
If it came down to it, Li'an wouldn't turn down a Reincarnate either. But I've gotta say that she'd be pretty depressed if she ended up a troglodyte or bugbear :P
GM Kiora
I'm glad we're trying to redeem that rogue, though. Or rather, he's trying to redeem himself.
I don't know if he's trying to redeem himself so much as he's clinging to a new 'boss' and trying to suck up to em for hopes of future foods (and loots?). He doesn't really have any sense of morality right now - he does what seems logical to himself at the time and place.
But still, deciding to stand his ground instead of run at the first sight of trouble was kind of a big deal for him so I counted it as a penance.
As for the CN vs CE thing - the guy definitely reads more so CN in conversation but remember he also was complicit in kid-murdering. Maybe it wasn't his idea but I think only an evil person would hear their buddy go "Hey lets murder some 8 year olds for this demon lord whose associates trashed our city" and go "'ight sounds good to me boss".
Speaking of healing, Markus is probably picking up most of the important healing spells as we level, so we'll have a pretty reliable archmage healer in the party.
I'm glad - I actually PM'd Ehren early on in the recruitment process to see if he was comfortable shouldering a lot of the healing. The AP necessitates a designated healer. With Markus picking up healing abilities, hopefully Ehren's not stuck using most of his spell slots on cures and restoratives.
Should you reincarnate I use a slightly modified version of the normal list to incorporate the newer races. It's a low percent (something like a 2% chance to roll on the 'weird races' table) but it still allows for you to come back as something like a strix :p
Ary Bishop
:P Oh, I'm aware of what he says v. what he means being different things. And what he thinks being something completely separate. Just Ary figured he was bullied into it... just like a long line of women when it came to Chaleb. :P
Ary Bishop
Does Ary even know what Adamantine is? :p

We finally learn who Horgus really is :p
Ary Bishop
When you said 'It is obvious that he has to exercise self-restraint to not immediately immerse himself in an audit of his holdings.' I made it to self-restraint and was already imagining him diving into a pile of gold and swimming about. XD

Yup, that conjured the image of Scrooge McDuck for me too :)

I also thought of that. XD

Does Horgus have a Lucky Copper Piece that's the first coin he ever earned?

Goin' to bed.
F2f group meeting saturday, not friday.
Cutting out a person from the f2f group, talking to them about it tomorrow. #sadDMthings
But after that I'm gonna spend some time at a county fair with some friends like a proper southern country bumpkin. So while I'll be on early tomorrow to post, and maybe once during the work-day, I won't be online again until kinda late.
Hope you guys have a lovely Friday evening if I don't see your lovely text-faces before then!
Ary Bishop
Sleep well, Kioralady. :)
Enjoy your county fair thing. With your miserable amounts of heat. And even more miserable amounts of humidity. (At least if it's anything like here. :|)
I'll be hiding indoors as much as I can. :p
Li'an Va'ardalia
Yup, have fun with the County Fair!
(Not so much with the removing a person from the F2F group)

2500 posts!
Also lets wait until others chime in. It's a big enough risk and decision that I want to see how others feel. Li'an sometimes jumps in 30' deep pits without thinking, even if she fancies herself a rational and strategic thinker ;)

Guess who's never taking prisoners again? These guys!
It's going to be a shame to inform our one remaining prisoner that he needs to be executed. I nominate Valaria.
