I actually missed the comic bundle entirely. O_O
I'll need to put in some more dough for that one. How evil.
Ary Bishop |
It came up later. I sort of pray at the shrine of humble for good games. Sure, I get most of my games like two years later, but I have like 200 games for the price of three. :P
Ehren Ferron |
About to start that Legacy of Fire encounter, but I guess I am in the mood for rambling on about it. I could probably use some advice. :P
The real stickler is the Breath of Nethys, a fog in the chamber that boosts magic power, but confuses those that breath it if they fail a Fortitude save. They get additional Will saves to end the effect on top of the normal percentile roll, so they aren't completely screwed. I suppose the wereleopard would be affected as well, though his chance of making the initial save is rather high. So half the people in the room could very well be hallucinating vividly in the middle of battle. Though thankfully, if a confused character is attacked, they automatically retaliate against their attacker.
Anyway, I'm running this guy against 6 level 3 PCs, some of whom are pretty optimized, though their positioning leaves much to be desired. Between his boatload of natural attacks and vicious punch dagger, he hits like a truck. Doesn't have a huge amount of hp, but he has DR/silver, which none of the PCs except the paladin are equipped to overcome. Given their damage output, it's probably the thing that will keep him alive. At the same time, I'm worried that a full attack focused on one PC will kill them outright. A glass cannon, basically.
Technically speaking, they don't even have to fight him in the dangerous hallucinogenic fog, but knowing this party, that idea won't come to them. :P

Found a new spell! :3
Ehren Ferron |
I guess they got tired of the whole "is using a wand of infernal healing an evil act?" hubbub. :p
Ary Bishop |
Now: Is bleeding an angel out an evil act?
Hinagiku |
Interestingly, it cannot really be used at first level since its duration is 1rd/2 levels. I found a bunch of posts complaining about that spell yesterday, mostly on its duration or the fact that you could use the blood of a good outsider... which sounds slightly evil if not freely given (ninja'd).
Ary Bishop |
Well, I mean... is draining a devil of its blood an evil act?
I think it's more assumed that the blood is given somewhat willingly.
The thing is, it'd still be insanely expensive, as the spell to simply call an outsider is exceedingly pricey, and the blood would just go away with a typical summoning.
Valaria Alazario |
I'd assume that since you can also use holy water, it's assumed that you got the blood some not evil way.
Ary Bishop |
Yeah, but it's still funny. 'If I cut a devil open, and it dies, then use that blood to make a wand of infernal healing, then use that wand of infernal healing to heal a paladin who is fighting an archfiend... is this an evil act?'
Similarly: 'If I cut an angel open, and it dies, then use that blood to make a wand of celestial healing, then use that wand of celestial healing to heal an antipaladin who is fighting an archangel... is this a good act?'
:P

Welcome to the logic of the alignment system. Please step carefully around the non-Euclidean sections.
Valaria Alazario |
Hey guys. I wanted to ask if anyone would be interested in playing in a bit of a different style game. I'm looking at getting a Savage Worlds game started using the Deadlands: Hell on Earth setting. So it would basically be an old fashion Cowboys and Indians type game. Except it's also in the post-Apocalypse and there's magic. It's kind of complicated.
I'd like to play with people that I know are reliable and fun to game with, so if I get enough interest from my friends, I won't need to go to open recruitment. Right now I have two friends at home who are interested.
Ary Bishop |
Not big on western stuff, and don't know really anything about Savage Worlds. Like Post-apoc somewhat, and love magic in anything.
But I'm still probably not a good fit. :)
Valaria Alazario |
The short version is that a Native American shaman went crazy when his tribe was killed and released the horsemen of the apocalypse. This led to all the magic coming back. There was a lot of alternate history (that's pretty much the Deadlands 'Classic' setting) and then the world got blown up by bombs powered by the trapped souls of the damned (I am not even kidding). It's a long story. I can provide details if anyone is curious.
Ehren Ferron |
Definitely sounds intriguing, but learning both a new system and setting sounds like a bit much for me. I'm afraid that I'd just bog it down with my lack of creative input.
Ary Bishop |
I'm interested in being a player in more of your games! Just... Not in extra-wild-west. So don't hesitate to ask me for more games. :)
Markus Coffinborn |
Yeah, I'm kind of exactly where the other players are too. You lost me at "old-style cowboys and indians". You almost had me back with post-apocalyptic, but I just don't like cowboys. Or Indians. And I especially don't like them when they're combined.

Hi friends! :)
I'm really sorry about vanishing on you guys. To put it succinctly, I've gotten divorced. The long down-hill slide that lead to that was a big part of the previous hiatus to begin with.
But now I'm fully separated and living alone and what-not, and slowly but surely reaching some level of (new) normal in my life. Once I get back into some sort of routine I intend to get things moving once again. I just really wanted to check in with you guys and let you know that I'm alive and I haven't abandoned this.
To get all mushy lovey-dovey on you guys, this campaign is really important to me and I want need to see it through. You as players have exceeded my every expectation that I had when I set out to do this a year ago. I never expected this game to become as amazing as it is, nor that I would become so emotionally invested in both it and you all, my players. So I wanted to thank you guys for your effort and patience, and for helping make this campaign the best damn campaign on the paizo boards ;)
I still have to clean up the huge mess that has become of my life, but I'm just about back into something stable. I have a lot to do this week, then I'm gonna be visiting Isilme for my birthday this weekend which should be fun as hell... and hopefully start the next week off on the right foot. So.... I'm hoping to get things chugging along once more next week.
Assuming of course, that you guys are still here and invested. :x

Wow.... I guess I should express my sympathies, but I'm A) really bad at that and B) don't really know what to say. I totally get having life making things tough though.
I am absolutely still here, and will be for the long haul. I think I might cry if that game got cancelled prematurely, because I'm that damn invested in this.

Good to know that things are improving for you (well, getting toward some new normalcy). I hope it goes on steadily and accelerate so you get back to a nice place as quickly as possible.
Still her, still invested. Although, for full disclosure, I have to submit my thesis by the end of august, and there is still a lot of work needed to finish it. So, I will probably be posting at a low rate (minimum 1/day) for the next 4 months.

Aw, I don't need condolences, I'm fine. I only bring it up to try and underline that my absence(s) isn't due to waning interest... nor the recent party wipe.
I just...really needed you guys to understand that I haven't lost interest in this. And to reiterate that if I needed to quit this campaign, I'd let you all know. I wouldn't vanish on you.

If you're sure. I trust you more than enough to know that you wouldn't just disappear, so the thought never crossed my mind.
Ary Bishop |
@Val: I'm better at being snarky, and just focusing on the good. :) I'm of zero use when it comes to making a person feel less bad, but I'm amazing at making them laugh for a few moments. At least I'd like to think. :)

It's good to see a post from you again, GM Kiora. I'm sorry that your marriage didn't work out as intended, but I'm sure you'll get somewhere good and happy soon.
I am, of course, still interested in the game. Your storytelling and the company of the other players is important to me as well, and missing it has been a bummer.

Oh, uh, hey guys! I thought I should let you know - now that Kiora's back and has given her blessing, I'm gonna be tagging Markus out and tagging in a different Archmage.
Ultimately I've lost interest in role-playing Markus, which makes me sad but... well, it's fixable. Playing a character I know I'll enjoy!
Here's to rolling well, and here's to you guys enjoying the character I make. I'm sure I'll have questions for you as I flesh him out, and I'll want a couple of the PCs to have met or known about him, so.
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 1) = 16 = 15 (7 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 3) = 12 = 10 (0 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 2) = 11 = 10 (0 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 4) = 15 = 12 (2 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 2) = 9 = 7 (-4 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 3) = 11 = 10 (0 pts)
Well, that's 5 points. Here goes again.
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 2) = 11 = 10 (0 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 2) = 16 = 14 (5 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 4) = 13 = 12 (2 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 4) = 17 = 16 (10 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 5) = 14 = 13 (3 pts)
Stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 3) = 8 = 7 (-4 pts)
That's 16, so I guess I'm going with that.
Xanderghul, shabti wizard
Str 10, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 19, Wis 7, Cha 14
I'll start working on writing the backstory and stuff.
Ehren Ferron |
Wait. Xanderghul as in, like, the Xanderghul? I had to look up the shabti, but... hmmm.
A shame to see Markus (and Annabelle?) go. But unless Kiora has something horrific in mind for them, I'm sure we'll see them again. :)
Markus Coffinborn |

Take a look and see, Ehren ;)
Xanderghul awakes with a gasp and an ache in his chest. His heart's just started, and his scattered brain is just trying to organize itself. He remembers... a golden coffer, for his own Noble body. He remembers... a flash of fire, the crumbling of His foundations. How dare they attack him, in his most inner sanctum.
But what he doesn't remember is who he is, where he was. Is he dead? He doesn't feel dead. He looks up and around, sitting up on an elbow. The sky above rumbles with purple electricity, and roils with dark clouds. When the clouds part, ever-so-occasionally, he can see a spiderweb of lava. That isn't what the sky is supposed to look like... What is the sky supposed to look like? He supposes he'll figure it out eventually.
He stands. He's alone, on a high, dark stone bluff. The stone is slick with... some sticky red substance. Blood, right, that's what it's called. He wears the ostentatious clothes marking him as... somebody important. He thinks. And next to him is a book. Bound in simple leather, the book contains arcane phrases that, for whatever reason, he can understand. He takes the book, clutches it tightly. Below him rages a battle. Terrifying creatures with unlikely anatomy clash in a wide field, while spurts of fire burst from the ground and then fall among them. Huge bipedal creatures with whips of fire stomp across the plain, striking dead with single blows any who dare stand in their way.
Terrified, Xanderghul turns his tail and runs the other way. He runs for awhile, but he doesn't seem to get anywhere different. The plain, with its rocky outcroppings and skies of lightning, seems to go on forever. He finds His Cave, soon, though, and goes inside of it. He finds the deepest, darkest corner and falls asleep, exhausted.
Feel free to read it if you like. I don't think I'll be keeping many secrets with this character.
Valaria Alazario |
Oh, I love shabti :) Hmmmm, I wouldn't mind having met him before. Val's been around for decades and she's been everywhere south of Irrisen. She'd have had plenty of chances to meet him if he's been around for a while.
Markus Coffinborn |
Xanderghul is from The Abyss, and he entered the Material Plane in 4433 AR during the battle between Deskari and Aroden.
I'm trying to decide how far afield he went after coming to The Material Plane. I know that I want his returning to the war and The Worldwound to have been initiated by him meeting Ser Jorsal, perhaps in the man's youth.

Uncountable sleeps have passed since He was Born. He barely knows why, but he spends day after day trekking across endless plains, swamps, mountains... and then night after night finding His Cave and falling asleep heavily. He fights when he must - mostly when dretches and schir corner him in His Cave, but otherwise runs always from everything. He knows he'd die quickly if he tried to establish any sort of... force. He has a friend - a tiny, poisonous cactus he'd found in a patch of dirt once. He'd used a stone bowl and his hands to scoop it up, and he carries it around.
He's filled with book with arcane formula and spells. Every waking moment not filled with danger fills his mind with magic, and he feels greatly the need to write it down.
He's forgotten most things. He knows his name, somehow. And he knows his magic, but everything else has been pushed away by the necessity of survival.
His Cave sleeps have been interrupted many times, but none so unusually as the time The Dog came. As usual, Xanderghul was ignoring the loud, crazy battles outside of the cave, but, as was evidenced by The Dog, the latest one was different. This dog... was big. A big dog, and prettier than anything Xanderghul had ever seen. He woke, and cautiously approached The Dog. His eyes flicked about, noticing that The Dog was... somehow injured. Bleeding. Spear wounds, vital locations - must be a babau.
As quick as lightning, the creature shifts, its back end changing to legs and a greatsword emerging from the creatures' front paws. It lashes up, cutting a deep rend from His face down to his hip. He cries out, and the dog's eyes glow with the light of a spell before it growls in surprise. "The taint of evil... it's avoided you. How? What are you?"
Ary Bishop |
:(
Ehren Ferron |
Hm. No dice for Ehren knowing him, unless he turns up in Other Memory somehow. But then, in four hundred years' time, he'd really have to stand out for that to be the case.
GM Kiora |
Looking great! :)
Probably won't be able to audit/give feedback til next week but I'm digging reading your backstory as it comes.
Right now, assuming Markus is fine with it, I plan on keeping Markus around as an NPC in your ever-expanding entourage of NPCs that will follow you guys around from base to base. Regardless, Annabelle will remain as an NPC for you guys to interact with, and will be open to you all as a possible cohort if anyone happens to still be shopping for cohorts.
Hell, I'd be down with Markus as a cohort if someone wanted someone for mythic leadership, and if Markus was okay with that.
Markus Coffinborn |
Markus would follow Ary or Isilme, I think, but not Ehren or Valaria. And Hinagiku doesn't get any cohorts.
Hinagiku |
I like the idea... cause, you know, I would be sad to see Markus or Annabelle go forever. Still, can't wait to see Xanderghul into play.
As an aside, its almost surprising that the alias had not been taken by anyone else before.

Soooo... I'm running another Hell's Rebels (because glutton!), and I'm in the middle of recruitment. I opted to go with Gestalt Bards/Skalds as the overall theme (because no one wants to be a bard! ;~;)
That being said, if you folks have time for what I think are some really interesting, well-written characters...

Question for the GM -
I'm presuming that it's alright for me to purchase spells before character-creation with my starting funds. You know, to put in my spellbook. Is there some limit for this? Currently I have one extra 2nd and one extra 3rd.
As I understand it a 2nd-level spell costs 60gp total and a 3rd-level spell costs 135gp. And I think a 1st-level spell is 15gp?
Second: How old is Ser Jorsal? When did he become a Pathfinder? Do you know?

As he stood inside the bush, Xander reflected back on Spot, the hound archon he had met all those millennia ago. He had had an actual name, but Xanderghul had never been able to get the fact that he was a dog out of his head, and so had incessantly called the celestial Spot until he had capitulated and began to answer to it.
The two had gone on lots of trips - things that Spot had called "missions". Xanderghul never really truly understood why they went on them, but... well, Spot spoke to him without wanting to murder him, and it wasn't like Xander was doing anything else other than walking in the same direction every day. So he went along, and they stole stuff from demonic strongholds, they battled demons, and they searched for a way out of the Abyss.
During one of these missions, uncountable sleeps ago, Xanderghul and Spot had been high inside of an Abyssal tower, peering at plans for a Gate to... somewhere. They had been interrupted, and Spot was captured.
A rivulet of acidic sap drips onto Xanderghul's shoulder from the bush, where it fizzles and steams against the barrier of his resist energy spell. His reminiscing of Spot's cries for help were interrupted by another movement in the legions below - a massive, bug-like creature strode amongst the demonic army massing below, and with a swift swing of his scythe he cut a rent in reality. Beyond, Xander could see it - cold steppes, dead grasslands, unforgiving mountains... but far from Abyssal. The skies, the skies were blue. And the grass didn't slice. The army started to move through.
Spot may not have had invisibility, but Xanderghul sure did. And he was going to use it to finally escape from this hell.

Yes you can use your starting funds to put in your spellbook. You have the costs correct, including the fee to pay an NPC for access to their spellbook.
Ser Jorsal is in his early forties. He became a pathfinder in his youth, 16 or so.
Xanderghul |
So with:
2 extra 1st-level (30gp total)
4 extra 2nd-level (240gp total)
2 extra 3rd-level (270gp total)
I spent 540gp on starting spells. I'll spend the rest of my gold and write up the latter parts of my backstory in the next day or two.
So, for Ser Jorsal... 25 years?
Would 4687 AR be a good year to have met Ser Jorsal, who then (with his youthful vigor and all) persuaded me to return to the Worldwound?
