Tara Eliade |

Rounding the corner of the hallway, Tara feels her breath leave her at the sight of the enormous spider. Clutching her crossbow, she lets loose a shot, aiming for its thorax but in her rush, the bolt embeds itself into a portait. "Oh no, this is bad."
Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 - 4 = 4
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3

Niculaie Pavlencas |

Niculaie hurries into the Lodge, catching a glimpse of the enormous arachnid as he ducks behind the fireplace next to Tara.
"Goddess, that's an abomination! How did such a beast get inside? Surely it would be too large to fit through any of the doors!"
Double move. Also, I just realized that Niculaie did not prepare shield in the morning. Anticipating a day of research, he prepared comprehend languages and identify and left one slot open.

Pontia Canario |

Seeing the rear of the enormous spider and hearing Vivian's directions, Pontia stops where she is and begins a spell. Those familiar with her casting style can tell that this is a summoning spell, as her words echo out into the emptiness between planes.

Sophie Kundegard |

occasionally Paizo's RSS feeds hiccup and skip a post. I didn't realize I was up!
Sophie moves a little bit closer and casts another spell
Shield of Faith

Vivian Deberth |

Oh, I suspect someone summoned it by magic. No way it could have passed through doors or windows, not without being seen. It's the only thing that make sense for me, but I'm open to new theories.
A silence, then
That really sounded wise and reasonable, no? I'm becoming my own mother, poor little me!
exagerated sigh
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Any idea how powerful a spell must be to summon that kind of big hairy spider? I have no clue myself.

GM Fuzzfoot |

The spider continues its rampage unhindered, it seems. A leg smacks Markiza Welgory, knocking her down. The spider moves to bite her.

Number of lantern archons summoned: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Eh; better than nothing. GM F, I have a question for you regarding the Superior Summoning{/i] feat. It's worded like this: "Each time you cast a summoning spell that conjures more than one creature, add one to the total number of creatures summoned." Does that mean a summoning spell with the potential to conjure more than one creature (i.e., with [i]summon monster iv I get 1d3 lantern archons), or a summoning spell that results in the conjuration of more than one creature? There's a discussion on the boards that concludes it's the former, but nothing authoritative. For the moment, I'll assume I get two.
The chiming of distant bells is heard, growing louder until a pair of glowing lights appears before the wizard. She addresses them in the Celestial language, pointing at the spider. In response, the two lights streak through the room and send twin rays of light at the monster.
RTA light ray: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
RTA light ray: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage #1, if applicable: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Damage #1, if applicable: 1d6 ⇒ 4
While that happens, Pontia casts another spell, trying to understand whatever magic has put the spider there.
Casting detect magic and concentrating on the spider.

Vivian Deberth |

Flank Stab the spider!: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 2 = 25
Dmg, Sneak attack: 1d8 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 2 + (3, 3) = 16
Vivian stabs the spider with her sword, doing some damage, using her knowledge of anatomy and monsters more than brute strenght

GM Fuzzfoot |

@Pontia - yes, you get 2. Seems silly to me that some argue you have to get more than one to benefit. I can see how it COULD be read that way, but why would anyone want to read it that way?
The spider is not magical - it seems to be quite real. You do notice that the double doors to the back deck (D10) were wide open. It does seem possible it could have squeezed in that way.
Vivian manages to make a solid hit, drawing the spider's attention away from the other guests.
The lantern archons also seem to be quite affecting (those are targeting touch AC, right?)

Looks like I forgot to move my token to the fireplace on my last turn - corrected now. Also, just a reminder - I made a mistake in round 1, Niculaie did not have shield prepared for the day so could have taken that extract.
Niculaie steps out from behind the fireplace (not trying to use Tara as a human shield, just didn't want to take more than a 5' step) and begins a bardic performance. "Brilliant strike, Vivian! Rally around, brave hunters! When will you encounter such challenging prey again?" He begins to sing a Nirmathi ballad about an intrepid band of monster hunters, and draws his bow.
Bardic performance, inspire courage, +2 morale bonus to attack & damage, saves vs fear

Tara-bot shoots another bolt at the large spider, this time lodging it in its side.

Come on Silas, we'll bring it down! and then I'll get a look at your wounds, if you don't mind.

Niculaie continues his ballad, takes another step into the hallway, and fires an arrow at the spider.

Hopefully Niculaie isn't aiming right at Vivian - it's probably another issue with the iPad app, but I can't see her on the map.

Vivian Deberth |

Either you can't see me because I'm behind the spider or because I'm too stealthy, or because you're blind to real beauty. I think it's the last one, as you plainly see Silas. ^^

Niculaie Pavlencas |

It’s hard to miss Silas, what with the sound of the violent disgorgement of his breakfast...

Pontia Canario |

Pontia circles around to join her conjured archons, then dodges. Meanwhile the archons drift a little closer and open up on the spider with a fusillade of light rays.

Now that she can finally see it, Sophie pauses to consider the monster.
going to use Monstrous Insight
Sophie has +4 to most knowledges... I need to work on her knowledge ranks, but ranks are so scarce for an Oracle
move and/or swift action will depend on the outcome of the knowledge roll

GM Fuzzfoot |

Did you forget the roll? Or did you want me to roll it?
Knowledge, nature: 1d20 + 4 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 8 = 20 I assume that succeeds. Other than being giant, this is simply a tarantula. DC 18.
Meanwhile, Vivian tries to attack (I moved your icon to a reasonable position based on your description), but misses. Pontia has some success with her lantern archons, which clearly can be very deadly to many dangers out there. But this monster is not going down easy. Niculae adds a bit more damage to the list, though, and it does appear that you are making progress.

Tara Eliade |

Watching as Sophie heads towards the large vermin, Tara panics as the thing turns its eyes in her direction. Accidentally shooting her bolt into the floor with a resounding *thud*, the cleric pulls out another bolt and loads it slowly.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 - 4 = 6
Sorry; life distracted me this week.

GM Fuzzfoot |

Can you put some little dots on the map for your archons? I suspect the spider will want to start targeting them soon. We'll give Sophie a bit more time to finish her action here.

Sophie Kundegard |

Sophie steps forward to get closer to the spider.
my last post was only a standard action. Presuming it has reach, Sophie will 5' step closer next turn and attack

GM Fuzzfoot |

@Pontia - Ah, now I see them! I had zoomed in so much, they weren't on my view!
@Sophia - ok, I thought there was more to come, which is why I waited.
The spider, turning towards the archons, finds Vivian in the way and attempts to bit her.

Niculaie continues his ballad and fires another arrow at the spider.
Edit to add: Just checked the map - before firing, Niculaie moves to get a better angle, so that he can aim at a part of the spider that isn't threatened by with Vivian or anyone else to avoid the -4 penalty for firing into melee.
+1 dark wood composite shortbow, inspire courage, point-blank shot: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 231d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 6
As an immediate action, Niculaie casts Saving Finale: "With a flourish, you can immediately end your bardic performance when a creature within range affected by your bardic performance fails a Saving Throw, allowing the subject to immediately reroll the failed Saving Throw." The effects of Inspire Courage continue for two more rounds due to Lingering Performance.

GM Fuzzfoot |

Vivian just manages to stab the spider as Sophie jumps in and impales it as well. As the light archons fire their beams again, the combination of attacks is enough to defeat the spider. It flips over, legs curling in. It will take some real effort to get it out of the lodge.

Pontia Canario |

Pontia breathes a sigh of relief, then looks around for wounded guests and others. She addresses the archons in Celestial. "Cast aid on the worst of the wounded before you have to return. My thanks for your services."

Silas Womarsh |

It's only a moment or so later when the large warrior gains control over his rebellious stomach. There are some muttered self-recriminations before he picks up his sword, sheaths it. Seeing that others are checking on the guests, Silas heads towards the only set of the doors the beast could have come through, determined to find the creatures source.

GM Fuzzfoot |

Silas does find drops of blood - almost like a trail, leading into the lodge via those doors. The door is also smeared with it. Perhaps someone lured the creature in here?
A few of the guests are injured, some have succumbed to the poison and are barely hanging on, yet none have died. It appears that your heroic efforts have afforded you the time to save them.

Tara Eliade |

Watching the spider curl in on itself, Tara drops her crossbow and heads to treat the wounded. "Everyone, please gather the wounded to me! I am trained in the healing arts." Spotting the unconcious man by Silas, Tara kneels down and touches his forehead, before pressing against his wounds, trying to help him combat the poison in his system.
Heal check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 using heal skill to treat poison.

Vivian Deberth |

Sophie, stabilize those who are just unconcious, I'll heal those whose life is endangered, while Tara starts to help those poisoned. Then we'll all three treat the poison..including myself, I guess
Vivian uses her healing expertise to check those who are the most grievely wounded, and uses a minor spell to help them, tracing a spiral on their forehead to show they are already treated.
It's always astonishing how the wise craking, fun-loving rogue can be serious, delicate and organized when people around her suffer, showing natural leadership.
And on the battefield, she is deadly and resolute, but loves to antagonize her foes (and Silas) with jokes.
Using my rebuke dead Healing domain ability, healing 1d4+2 HP for those who are under 0 HP. Sophie cast stabilize on those between -1 to -5 Hp, I cast Rebuke dead on those under -5 Hp. Then we'll use Healing skill to treat poison (+8 for Vivian)
