Well out-of-game wise, it would technically be meta-gaming to suddenly realize that only the kids would know the valuable information. And in-game wise, since we didn't really learn anything that would allow us to change our thought process we would probably just continue with the plan.

GM Faelyn |

Okay, well let's just get this whole town influence bit started here.
I don't know how exactly you want to do this GM Faelyn, but if we are going to get started on making a change through legitimate business, let's take into account a few things:
First, I don't exactly remember the amount of wealth we had been offered by Kreed for "working" for him but we instead donated it to the Sheriff's. A sizable portion of the townsfolk saw that and seemed pretty happy with what we did.
We didn't use it for anything truly practical, like purchasing goods, labor, or magic, but maybe we could get started with the idea that we effectively purchased ourselves some influence with our gesture of good will.
Capital Purchased Cost Earned Cost
Goods 20 gp 10 gp
Influence: 30 gp 15 gp
Labor 20 gp 10 gp
Magic 100 gp 50 gpLet's say for fairness sake, we bought ourselves half that wealth in influence. Or however much you want.
Also, let's assume that the people of Falcon's Hallow are generally favorable to us at the moment since we helped cure the plague. Normally the conversion ratio for exchanging goods and services is 3 to 1, but maybe it's 2 to 1 for us.
This is just an example of how this could start off.
Sorry it has taken me this long to really sit down and read over the Downtime rules.
I actually really like Zirren's idea about allowing you to utilize the higher exchange rate for Influence while in Falcon's Hollow. Certain individuals and groups obviously this will not be the case (any person/group or business associated with the Lumber Consortium to be specific).
So, the "reward" was worth 500gp. I'll say you were able to "purchase" 10 points of Influence with that by donating it to Sheriff Baleson.
I'm going to add a tracker to the top of the page to allow ease of access to get an idea of what we are working with.

Zirren Jenefone |

Thanks for taking the time to start learning this with me, Faelyn. I don't have the specifics down yet, but if the rest of the party is still thinking about the whole starting our own business here, I'll be happy to do a more in-depth breakdown of how to get that all started relatively soon.

Zirren Jenefone |

Perhaps for moving things along purposes, we can either have the designated amount of time pass so one of groub B's characters can meet up with group A? Or maybe Group A finds us?

Ruhk "The Dandy" |

Don't you just love it when you get a Christmas present, you have no idea what it is, there are no instructions nor any identifying number you can look up?
A gift from work, which is nice, but no idea what it is, which is less nice.

GM Faelyn |

Hopefully everyone had/is having a happy holiday!

GM Faelyn |

Okay, I wanted to give Zilka a few more days after Christmas/holiday time before I sent her a status check. I sent her a PM today and I will GMPC Zilka (you guys all can NPC her either way), until we hear something back. I've decided if I haven't heard anything by February, then I will look into getting a replacement.
In the meantime, we shall move onward!

Greyson Caine |

We could always have Zilka stay with the Sheriff to help out in town. If Zilka comes back to the game, she can join us wherever we are under the guise of having followed up, or been a little late arriving or something.

Zirren Jenefone |

That's a good plan. I don't necessarily like telling PC characters what they ought to do when they are in a limbo state of coming back or not. So having her stay with the Sheriff as a go between might be a good idea.

GM Faelyn |

That works! I'll get an update momentarily. Been very busy past few days.

GM Faelyn |

A thousand apologies for my absence the past few days; my son has been sick with the Norovirus. Friday he spent much of the day throwing up and I spent it cleaning that up several times. I'm just getting back into the swing of things this morning.

GM Faelyn |

I wanted to keep you all updated on the Zilka situation. I still have not heard anything from him/her since their disappearance. I'm going to remove Zilka as an active PC, but I informed the player that should they return to the forums eventually and would like to bring Zilka back, she will be welcomed.
Would you fine folks be interested in seeking a replacement party member? Or just continue on as is?

Zirren Jenefone |

I'm fine continuing on for now. It would have been nice to have another caster character but an active 5 person party seems good enough for now.

Belladonna Goodbarrel |

I don't know what a Norovirus is, but it sounds like something that could kill a robot in a very short period of time. I hope your son is doing well and will be repaired without issue.
Another player would likely slow us down too much, especially in combat. I think we're fine as is.
Who needs healing when we can just kill everything first?
Oh... traps. I forgot about those.

Zirren Jenefone |

I don't know how fast we're wanting to go but the Halflings could hustle for an hour without much in the way of penalty in order to keep up and then we slow down to 20 feet.

GM Faelyn |

Oh god... The feeeeeeeels!!!! Can I say that I thoroughly enjoy the Art/Caine dynamic! Art is a very refreshing take on halfling heroism that I haven't seen in a very long time... probably since I last read the Lord of the Rings.

Zirren Jenefone |

So this idea I have about characters getting bonuses when their initiative results are above 20 comes from various action movies, anime fight scenes and things of that nature. Basically when someone who is portrayed as being faster than other people makes the first strike it's always amazing.
In Pathfinder the only rules for things like that are if you're faster than the other guy, they're flat footed to you. Which is nice, but in some of the games I've run there have been characters who eventually get upwards of +10 or higher to their initiative scores and then they roll 29, while their opponent gets 5.
Here are some possible thoughts.
Initiative score is 21+: The character gets a +1 on all attack rolls for the round. Nothing too flashy but represents the fact that they're going to have a slight edge over the guy with no initiative bonus.
Initiative is 20 above someone else: The other character is treated as Stunned rather than flat footed. They don't drop whatever they're holding but it's a step below simply not being ready. The enemy moved so fast that you couldn't possibly react to it well enough.
Granted this combination makes people focused on initiative, such as Rogues a fair bit more dangerous but honestly the 1st round drop, should be that surprising at those levels.

Zirren Jenefone |

It's true that this system would add a bit more bookkeeping to keep track of, but I figure the one round with a +1 wouldn't be too difficult to figure in. And it's going to be a pretty rare thing for someone to be attacking someone else with an initiative score that's 20 above them.
It doesn't have to be a thing but I like the idea.

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

In my opinion it is not really a big deal except for the first turn, then it just becomes a YGIG sort of thing.
When I started playing, we rolled initiative for groups, every turn, then it made a difference because you might get to go last in one turn and then first in the next, giving you a bit more of an advantage.

GM Faelyn |

Ah yes, the good old days with Weapon Speeds and the d10 initiative dice. And let's not forget negative AC!! I started tabletop with 2E, so I'm only a novice grognard...
Your premise sounds interesting, Zirren, I'd like to get a group vote though before making it a houserule. Please weigh-in folks!

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

I am in California for training this week, and the hotel Wi-Fi is awful. I will try to find better servuce tonight after class to post, or if I'm holding things up, just got me for the next attack I make

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

Just wanted to fes up to a mistake I didn't catch (as I was out of town two weeks ago). I hadn't caught that the first monster was defeated, and my extra bonuses for Smite Evil would not have been available when attacking the second one.
Sorry about that. I just sort of got caught up in being thrown into the air that it went right out of my head.

GM Faelyn |

Huh... shows you how often I play paladins... I was thinking that a paladin's Smite Evil was more akin to an inquisitor's Judgements. Oh well, Art, no worries about that! It made for a very cool scene and allowed me to get an idea of the party's combat prowess (which I severely under-estimated). I'm not going to lie, this wasn't intended as a combat encounter, but more of a roleplaying encounter of "holy crap, there are two allips floating around these woods???" I was nervous at first, but you guys handled it very well.

GM Faelyn |

Okay, I heard back from TreasureFox and they are still around, just going through a rough patch so posting might be a little slower than normal for Bella. We will go ahead and move forward. I will just do some GMPC for Bella if we get into combat and things slow too much.

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

Oh yes, by all means, in the future suggest that the Paladin of the Heroic Halfling Warrior who sacrificed her life so that her people could escape should run away, that'll do it... ;)

GM Faelyn |

Since Bella has a lot going on right now outside of the game, I'll let you guys make the decision on which way to go first to avoid the game stalling too much. First person to post will make the decision and I'll help keep things moving and post for Bella in combat if needed.

GM Faelyn |

Sounds good, Greyson. Update coming shortly.

Belladonna Goodbarrel |

Hi guys. I'm alive. I can't explain to you how much I regret not posting. Please, if you're ever waiting on me, just bot me. I don't wanna ruin the game.
I'm going to catch up and post soon, then post on the Strange Aeons game tomorrow.

Glad to hear from you, Bella! What I'll do for Bella/Nova from this point forward (until things get a little easier for you) is to give you an extra day or so to post combat action and allow the other folks to post their next round actions while we wait. Then if you haven't had an opportunity go post I'll GMPC your actions for that previous round. Does that sound okay?

GM Faelyn |

You are very welcome! I'm glad we haven't lost you! I thoroughly enjoy the yin-yang dynamic of Bella and Artegal and I just have not been able to accurately portray that part of Bella.
