He just feels cold, his actually body temperature is normal, perhaps a minimal variation off standard, but no matter how hard he tries he just cannot seem to shake the chill that he feels.
If you want to make it a little more interesting in that his actual core temperature is cooler, then I'd be okay with that! Colder temperatures would affect him quicker than normal, but hotter temperatures would have less of an effect on him. Your call, Zirren!
Zirren Jenefone |
It is a magical curse effect stemming from a fairly powerful Ice Fey creature. I'm going to say the effect is more on his body than just his mind alone. Plus it gives me some ideas for his build later on. He now has a lower core body temperature.
Zirren Jenefone |
Well, here's hoping those warrior Fey aren't too vindictive against us because of what those woodsmen did to the other little golden blooded Fey.
GM Faelyn |
Will Caine and Boote be getting back to camp soon?
Yessir! Hopefully I will have you guys back there in a few days. Unfortunately, I haven't quite come up with anything to keep you guys entertained just yet...
GM Faelyn |
Hey guys, sorry the post is so short... Very busy night at work already, but I wanted to at least get one post in. I will try to keep checking in and move the story along as needed! Thank you guys for your patience.
GM Faelyn |
Oh, don't worry Caine. You will... You will... Maniacal GM laughter!

So if anyone is interested in joining a D-20 modern game, it's called Spire City and here's the opening:
Setting:
Spire city a place with tall buildings, fast cars, golden beaches, beautiful people and horrific murder... Over the past month bodies have been found crucified and slashed up in dark ally's and inside once warm homes by what the news has deemed the Countdown killer. Each body has been found with an ominous number in the victims own blood painted next to it. So far the numbers have been and in this order: 13,12,11...
Spire is a fascinating City with ancient medieval ruins within certain areas and a lot more in the surrounding area outside the city. It has been said treasures and mysterious artifacts may be held within some of these ruins but people who have tried to obtain them have said strange and dark forces chased them out. There are also rumors that deep under Spire there is a massive labyrinth. And even crazier stories tell that horrific murderous creatures roam inside of it.
Goal: So you will be average folk in a modern city setting. It is a L.A inspired city in style, size and population. Your goal is to solve the mysteries in your normal life You are exceptional people who have been having strange dreams that leave you wondering what they could mean.
Rules:
D20 modern characters.
Races: Young Humans only (under thirty-five and over fourteen)
Level: 3
Stats: 20 point buy
Wealth: According to your occupation. (no rich or wealthy)
I want all your characters to be going through a rough patch in life and are feeling one or many of these things; extreme stress, anxiety, depression, ect...
GM Faelyn |
Wish I had the time to join that game, Zirren, as it sounds promising. Unfortunately, I don't have the extra time available. Thank you for the invite though!
GM Faelyn |
Okay, so after looking over the ACG errata I'm going to make a ruling on it; we are going to ignore the errata, unless it's for a clarification or actual fix to certain things. Given that the only two characters which are affected by it are effected negatively (Zirren and Caine), I'm going to ignore the changes made. Unless you guys want to accept the change made in the errata, then we'll make it work. Otherwise, it didn't happen as far as I'm concerned.
Zirren Jenefone |
I don't even know what we're talking about. But generally I'm in favor of not bothering with questionable errata. Such as magic weapons now just being more resilient rather than nearly indestructible against anything that wasn't as strong as they were. Grrr...
Zilka Hemanax |
Your archetype got nerfed, Zirren. Now you (if not for Faelyn's GM fiat) could only use each of consume spells and consume magic items a number of times per day equal to your Charisma mod (mininum 1). So, if you were planning on doing a Summon Monster III by consuming a level 3 spell and then using the points from it, well, you can only do that once per day. It hit my PFS Arcanist (Occultist) pretty hard, although now I have a reason to be a suave, charming, socially ept evil lawful neutral noble.
GM Faelyn |
Was the Warpriest errata'd too? I missed that.
Yeah, here's the Sacred Fist portion from the errata.
In the Sacred Fist archetype’s Weapon and Armor Proficiency, before the last sentence, add “When wearing armor, using a shield, or carrying a medium or heavy load, a sacred fist loses his AC bonus and flurry of blows.” In the AC Bonus ability, in the third sentence, change “deflection” to “dodge”. At the end of the ability, add the sentence “This counts as the monk ability of the same name, and the sacred fist’s warpriest levels stack with monk levels for determining the benefits.” In the Flurry of Blows ability, at the end of the second sentence, add “, except the sacred fist’s attack bonus from warpriest levels does not count as his warpriest level.”
So, it's not so much a nerf as it is a clarification, but if you had a different interpretation of those abilities when you selected Sacred Fist, then we can use your interpretation if you'd like, Caine.
And yes, the Arcanists got slapped in the face with a fish.
I think my most hated change is the one they made to Slashing Grace... what the heck?!?! I had wanted to make an Aldori Sword Kensai magus one day w/ Slashing Grace, but that's never going to happen. In fact, pretty much all Kensai magi will be either using rapiers or scimitar. Lame.
Greyson Caine |
Wow. Lots of big changes. Really seems like they don't want any Dex based character other than the swashbuckler being decent in combat. Oh well.
We'd talked earlier about Caine's Story Feat essentially giving him the ability to retain monk abilities while wearing armor, kind of like the Sohei. As long as you're still fine with that, so am I.
GM Faelyn |
Yes, sorry about that folks. Everytime I sat down last night to type up a post, something would happen. I am going to get that post up shortly, you have my word.
GM Faelyn |
Hey all, I injured my shoulder at work tonight and will be on light-duty until I can be seen again on Monday. So, my posts will likely be on the shorter end in the meantime. I'll keep you posted.
You guys seem to be having some good times posting between each other! I'll leave you to it, unless you guys prefer otherwise.
GM Faelyn |
Ouch, Nathaniel. Also guys, the shoulder is doing much better. Likely just a sprain in the shoulder joint somewhere. Going to throw out a short post for you guys, I will work on getting a better one soon to move things along.
Greyson Caine |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
I didn't think this side of Caine would ever come up in game. This whole scene from taking the hobgoblin back through the funeral has been amazing storytelling.
These kinds of things are what I aim for in every game I play. They don't happen very often though.
All of you are fantastic.

I could not agree with this more! I am very proud of the group I selected to take this journey. You guys are doing a fantastic job with your interactions.

GM Faelyn |
In that case I would say they are more like sprites. The module calls them keld piskies, but they are not covered in any books, so I'm sort of going by fiat on that one.
GM Faelyn |
Just an FYI... if at any point this feels like its getting too heavy, just let me know and I can dial it back.
I'll work on keeping this scene short so we can carry on, but I wanted to finish wrapping up this section on the next morning. Once everyone is ready to move on, please let me know either here or in the Gameplay thread and we shall begin the next phase!
GM Faelyn |
Hey guys, I will have a post up soon. I wanted to get one in sooner while my son was napping, but I had a very long and convoluted arrest report I had to write up... So that pretty much took most of my day after getting off duty this afternoon.
tl;dr... I was busy and will have a post up soon! lol
GM Faelyn |
Hey guys, I will have a post up later this evening. Picked up an end of shift OWI arrest, so I've got a bit of paperwork to take care of first.
GM Faelyn |
Sorry I haven't posted, I've been ill.
No problem, Artegal. I'm just waiting for some more folks to post before we continue.
*EDIT*
Also, if you guys could check the new map link I added to my status bar. It should be editable by everyone. Please move your icons around to where you would like them to be on the map. You will be entering the clearing from the Southwest. The large clump of trees is the Elder Tree and ignore the campfires on the map, they aren't there. This was the closest thing I could find to represent this area.
GM Faelyn |
Sorry for the lack of activity recently. I put in 3-6 hours of overtime every single day last week either for training or after shift paperwork... And then had a wedding Friday night, then Brewfest yesterday. I'm back on track today, but my folks are in town visiting this week, so my posting will likely be minimal the upcoming week.
Also, I need you folks to place your icons where you want them on the map listed as "Elder Tree". If you have any issues in being able to move the icons, please let me know ASAP so we can take care of that.
GM Faelyn |
Okay folks, to keep things moving and to avoid this becoming stagnant, I'm going to move the PC icons into the areas where I believe you wish them to be indicated by your last posts. I'll give you guys until tomorrow morning to make any changes you want... Otherwise I'm going off that positioning.
Greyson Caine |
That looks fine.
TO be clear, the map shows the tree tops, not the trunks, so it should be fairly easy to move through the areas that look from the top like they are obstructed?
Would it be possible to get markers put down that mark where the trunks are?
Is any of this difficult terrain?
GM Faelyn |
I should be able to do that! I'll try to add a ring to indicate the trunk. And technically according to the module... The glade around the tree is completely open for approximately 150 feet or so in all directions. I'll see only difficult terrain within 10' of the trunk due to all the massive roots structures. Beyond that it should be considered normal. I will work on getting that ring added as soon as I can. I wish I had a better representation for this map... :(
