Excellent! Okay guys, I will have an update tomorrow. I wanted to get one in today, but we are having a very busy shift for a Tuesday day rotation... Afterwards I have 4 hours of additional training to attend and will not be home until 7:30 PM. I then get to start getting my son into bed and then myself into bed to be up at 4:30 AM again tomorrow.

Greyson Caine |

We really need to get out of the "split up between wagons" bit. There's conversations happening that are thematically important and most of the group can't hear or be involved in them.

GM Faelyn |

Nathaniel is correct! You guys are in the camp to locate Milon Rhoddam in hopes that he can direct you to the location of the eldest tree in the forest.
If you guys would like, I can add a section in the Campaign Info tab with information that's relevant to your current quests?

GM Faelyn |

That would be very helpful! PbPs can span months in RL while only a much shorter time passes in the game.
Thought I had replied to this already, but obviously not! I will get that up tonight. I'll put a little heading in the tab which highlights the current overall adventure and the current subplots you guys are working on.

GM Faelyn |

Hey guys, sorry for my unexplained absence. My grandparents both passed away over the weekend and I haven't really been in the mindset to post. I will get caught up this weekend.

GM Faelyn |

Hey guys, I added a spoiler with your current objectives in the event you get a little fuzzy.

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

Hey everybody, two things - just had an emergency tooth extraction, everything is fine, but damn that is painful stuff, and on Friday I am putting my youngest child on a plane for Spain - so the next couple of days will be interesting for me, but I'm not going away.

GM Faelyn |

No problem, Nathaniel. Sorry to hear about your tooth, ouch! Also, good luck with kiddo headed to Spain! Hope he/she enjoys their time abroad!

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

My youngest son made it into an internship in this his last year of school to work in the kitchen of the resturant of the hotel can Faustino on the island of Menorca, he is a bit reckless but I am so proud of him

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

About pooling our money, I'm not sure I remember how I got my gear, or how much money I started with, but I'll go back and search my posts to try and figure out if I have any money to share

GM Faelyn |

I'd say it would likely be a handaxe. Also, I'm going to change the weapon proficiency type for the handaxe from Martial to Simple. I've always viewed the handaxe like a hatchet and most everyone knows how to use a hatchet, similar to a dagger comparable to a knife. The handaxe was a tool long before it was a weapon and therefore in medieval periods would likely be a well-used tool for chopping smaller pieces of wood.
Also, what do you guys think about implementing a passive perception score? This would be for times when you guys are not actively looking for something. I was thinking something like 5+Perception bonus. Would you guys be interested in that? Or do you feel it might overly complicate things and that we should continue with the standard perception rules?

GM Faelyn |

I thought about that as well, Zilka, but then one runs into the problem of potentially rolling lower when actively seeking something out as opposed to passively spotting something. Which seems a little ridiculous in my opinion.
Now, if you guys are okay with that, then we can use the Take 10 option as a Passive Perception value and run with it.

Nathaniel Artegal Boote |

I think it is important to remember that there is a component to the "take 10" and "take 20" rules that is so often overlooked, and that is Time.
We so often ignore the role of time in our games, so, for instance as a DM you could ask the players, "How careful are you advancing, how much time is it taking you to move from one place to another?"
If the party says
"We are moving quickly." - then rolls would be required
"We are being careful, looking left and right, up and down, as we go, to be on the lookout for ambushes and traps." - then use the Take 10 rule, and keep track of time accordingly, that is, tell the party they are making progress, but it is not at a normal walk
"We are moving super slow, looking at every stone, and every tree, weapons drawn, putting one foot down and waiting to see what happens before moving the next foot" - then use a Take 20 (yes take 20 can be applied to spot a trap before it is blundered into) and make it take ten minutes to move your normal move in one round.
Anyway, that's how I manage it.

Taking 10 takes exactly as long as a check that you roll. It doesn't involve any extra time, baring any house rules. (Take 20 does, of course.)
Is it possible to retcon that Zirren purchased the silver dagger?

GM Faelyn |

Zilka, I completely forgot about that! Thank you for reminding me. So, in that case, the only one who will not suffer the miss chance would be Zirren.
With no party members having Darkvision I will ensure to keep a spoiler with the current lighting conditions at the bottom of each combat post for you guys!

GM Faelyn |

It is completely possible for Zirren to purchase the silver dagger if he so chooses.
I've decided on an approach for the Passive Perception score; I'm going to use the Take 10 rules. I will assume you all are Taking 10 while wandering around the forest anyway, so this will make things a little easier. I would view this as "I'm keeping an eye out for things, but I'm not overly paranoid of an ambush." Traps and the like I will still roll and any other time you all want to roll a Perception check. Most of the time, I'll likely just do the Perceptions rolls unless I specifically request one. That way you're not on edge and we don't have to wait 1-3 days for everyone to post their rolls.
Also, did everyone make a choice on a Story Feat yet? I don't believe I heard back from a few of you. Zirren, I am allowing everyone to select a Story Feat if you are interested.
Lastly, what are your thoughts on using the Background skills from the Unchained book? I have always thought d20 needed something along those lines. This would be a perfect opportunity for you all to add in those skills you really feel fits your characters' up-bringing.

GM Faelyn |

I like that Mr.GM! I've read through the unchained book, and like the concept of the background skills.
*Insert mandatory "can we plz use the unchained rogue pwetty pwetty pwease?"*
Yes, you may! Given that, I would also allow the usage of Skill Unlocks for anyone, not an Unchained rogue, who wants to pick up the feat. Anyone that is interested in the Background Skills options can do so and update their character sheet.

Zirren Jenefone |

Strange, I also always thought that taking 10 was also more of a time issue. I'll agree with the Gm's course as it makes sense that we're not blindly running through the forest but I think I'll keep with Nathaniel's idea in my own games.
I will have purchased the silver Dagger.
I also agree that background skills are something that should be a thing. I'll take a look at it then. Hmm a story feat, I admit I am intrigued though I haven't ever looked at these. Sure I'll check it out then.

GM Faelyn |

Sounds good, Belladonna and Zirren.
I will also prose another question for you guys. Back when we first started I sent you all some basic questions, one of which concerned items you would like to see for your PCs. I received replies from everyone, but some folks were not sure. Zilka, Ruhk, and new Zirren... if you guys have some ideas please let me know. These modules have very specific item drops that are very outdated and is also below the WBL. So in that regards I'll need to do some treasure adjustment. I figure while I'm at it... I can look into possibly placing some items that will actually see use as opposed to being sold for fodder.

Belladonna Goodbarrel |

I definitely like utility items like grappling hooks, sneezing powder, signal horns, etc. I don't think Belladonna will ever be a damage dealer, but she'll always have the right tool for the job!

Greyson Caine |

Maybe Bella's story feat could be something like the Pathfinder Chronicler's Deep Pockets ability??

GM Faelyn |

I think that would be a really cool idea, Greyson! I always thought that was a neat ability. It's not the most powerful of options, but really cool.

Belladonna Goodbarrel |

Maybe Bella's story feat could be something like the Pathfinder Chronicler's Deep Pockets ability??
Oh! I love that idea!I think that fits her perfectly

The Halfling opportunist prestige class might be useful for Belladonna.
Faelyn, would getting a class feature from another class, like swashbuckler's panache and level 1 deeds, be too much for a story feat?
