Loot Sheet

A small band of mariners find themselves press-ganged into service on the Wormwood, led by the fearsome Barnabas Harrigan. Will they turn their misfortune to glory on the high seas, or will folly lead them to an ignominious watery death?

Who wants a plague mask? I'll probably grab one for Lark under the "every bit helps" theory.

It seems like masks take the head slot for equipment. So, if you've got a fancy hat like Lark it may be an either-or choice. Do I have that right?

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Yes, it is a head slot so you cannot benefit from it and your hat at the same time.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Grab one for me. I still haven't gotten a hat, fancy or otherwise, so I'm good for the time being.

heck yeah Ill take one. It'll be super scary to see these plague mask wearing pirates

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Thren will of course decorate hers if possible to do so. She still wants to look her best even on a haunted island.

I will also add--that is for magic items only, Lark. You can wear the nonmagical version and your hat just fine.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

As I was just refreshing the rules myself, I thought it might be a good idea to remind you that when you earn Infamy, you also earn an equal amount of an expendable resource called Disrepute. You use Disrepute to buy Impositions, which are various boons.

You have been able to buy Impositions for some time now--as of Plumetown your Infamy was 18 and with Lark, Corwin, and Kahuranga's braggadocio, it is now 19. You haven't spent any Disrepute, so you have 19 points of that.

my summary of this system is here.

That summary links to the full rules as well, and the Impositions you can buy are here (from the page linked in the summary): https://beyond-the-shore.obsidianportal.com/wikis/impositions

You can only buy Disgraceful Impositions right now. If you earn one more point of Infamy, you can also buy Despicable ones. (And you're aiming for a Despicable Infamy to be able to qualify for Free Captaincy).

I realize you may not have anything you want to buy immediately, but this is important to bear in mind for your adventures forthcoming, as they can help give you a much needed edge in a pinch.

My posting will be erratic this week due to work. Bot me as necessary. I'll try to keep up.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I think the team's ready for the curtain to rise! Though I'm concerned about The Norv, you with us yet m'man?

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

He hasn't checked in a bit to the game that he is running, and he normally is fairly communkcatove. I plan on emailing him soon if he doesn't check in soon. Hopefully all's ok, he just got stuck underneath moving complications.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

And yes, you've got 2 days to curtain, say what you're doing or of you are ready to move on.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Ready to move on. Thren's gonna be too occupied to cause trouble :)

I just dropped in a post covering two more info-gathering trips for Lark. I'm fine if you want to resolve either or both based on just the text and dice rolls I included. I'm ready to visit the opera, I just wanted to get those out while I was thinking about it.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

I hope to respond soon (sometime tomorrow). I've had kind of a frustrating week but I am not going to go into it. Lark, I really like what you posted, the detail of your describing how you are going about things, and your pulling from your background for some extra weight to what you are doing; take a hero point.

Thanks! I hope your week/end gets better.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Thank you.

Given the site was down almost all day yesterday, I'm going to give some folks some time to respond.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I'm thinking with this buildup the opera will be one hell of a show (pun intended)!

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Bear with me folks, am trying to keep up. Have been having continual car trouble among other appointments and obligations (my car overall has been good to me lo these many years, but it's getting old. Check engine light came on last week... turned out to be an unfortunately expensive repair, but it involved replacing a part I knew was about time for it to be replaced. Annoying thing is check engine light keeps coming back on after that and keep having to take it back to the shop. Really annoying! But mechanic is being very reasonable... gave me free Lyft rides and now a loaner car without issue, and waiving some of the diagnostic/labor fees.) Sometimes I have time to post and sometimes I have time to properly prep but not both at once.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

No problem. Go deal with what you've got to deal with, we'll be here.

Good luck with your car woes, DQ!

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Update coming on Monday. Both my weekend obligations (family and religious community) went way longer than expected, plus got a fun allergy attack! Apologies for delay.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Just a thought: are you allergic to your family like I am with my family? :) I'm sure you're not allergic to your religion!

Ok, jokes in poor taste over, looking forward to the post, now got FF6 in my head!

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Actually, it was my religion, technically. The regional meeting I had to go took place in a community that has very old meeting house (built in 1775). There was a distinct scent that suggests LOTS of dust and mold. Fortunately the bulk of their activities were in the brand new adjacent community house, but just an hour of meeting for worship in the old building was enough to trigger the snot fountain (you're welcome for that mental image). The community is aware of the issue; I'm sure remediation in a historic (officially registered) building is complicated and expensive.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Ok, that was definitely unexpected that it'd be something like that. And remediation would also be slow; the bureaucracy is likely impressive.

Ooo, imps up on the catwalk! Four ton weight maybe? Five minutes to act? ROFL

Forces of Nature Battlemap

BTW I have emailed the Norv (later than I intended, but a few days ago). I have heard nothing. He also has not checked into the game he's been running. This is unlike him--he has sometimes been sucked into school year starts and the like but I just checked and he's been off the boards entirely for at least six weeks. I very much hope he is okay.

(At the same time, I am also aware of several PBP participants who, after a long radio silence, get embarrassed about disappearing and never check in, choosing to leave everyone in the lurch rather than own up and just try to do better next time. I wish they wouldn't do that because you have no idea if they're just embarrassed or unexpectedly dead, and embarrassment is a poor reason not to show up, especially when it leaves people otherwise wondering if you're dead. It's possible this is the case, but he's never struck me as the kind of person who would do that, so I am assuming he is at least without reliable internet access due to his move or at worst dealing with an emergent illness or family issue.)

Unfortunately it is my policy that if a player disappears without warning or explanation for several weeks at a time, that their character gets written out of the game. (And his last message was that while he was distracted due to the move he was planning to post soon, so he didn't warn about an extended absence.)

If the Norv's circumstances turn out to have been understandable, we can certainly invite him back.

Fortunately we are in a good spot to separate from Emberar. The city is full of Gholgan ruins which he would be fascinated by and want to study. I'll bring this in the appropriate point in game, but we'll say he has opted to stay and study, but also serve as the cavalry if things get really bad in Yoha's Graveyard. He will give you a feather token to communicate with him if you need help, and/or if you do not return from Yoha's Graveyard in a week's time, he and some hirelings will come to investigate and at least rescue any crew left on the ship, if you are lost in the jungle somewhere.

Threnody has some healing capabilities, and moreover a cleric cohort who is capable of casting one of the most important spells you will need on that island.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I've been worried about what's going on with him too. Hopefully all's well.

On that note I'm off this weekend to see friends and family in PA, so bot me as needed. I shall return Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Give them my best!

I hope the Norv is OK.

Lathiira - have a good trip!

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

It was indeed a great trip. Wonderful travel weather. Made the Manhattan trip. Saw part of a Korean pride parade and dodged NY Comiccon. Hid on Sunday. Caught up with my sister. Great trip. I did say hello for you GMDQ.

Sounds awesome.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

We're all quiet, all well?

Also, a note for our expedition to come: Thren has minor healing abilities in the form of knowing cure light wounds and a wand of the same at less than half strength. So let's not get too crazy with taking damage when we get there. I'd planned at next level to swap out a spell from my 2nd level repertoire for cure moderate wounds but that won't help when we get there. So let's try this strange idea of being smart :)

In the meantime, what's going on in the catwalk hmm?

Hopefully the catwalk will be a cakewalk. We need to make sure Threnody is back on stage to receive her standing ovation!

I think GMDQ mentioned earlier that Sandara has a spell that'd be very helpful on the island. If she's there that's another healer. Lathiira, do you have any hesitation about bringing Sandara along to the island of foggy death?

Male Sylph Witch 8 |HP: 47/56| AC/T/FF 20/16/16| F 3 R 7 W 7 CMD 20| Init +5, Per +3, Prof (Sailor) +10

I have a wand of cure moderate with 35 charges and a wand of cure light with only 5 charges. I probably need to replace the cure light wand here if that is possible.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I have no problems with Sandara coming along. She'd likely realize that Sunstruck wandered off and that we need someone with common sense along.

Well, my Congressman passed away. This is really terrible. He was a really good person by my estimation, and was extremely responsive to his constituents, moreso than any other elected representative I've had.

I know this is a weird place to mention this, but I'm just sort of stunned and need to express it somewhere. I obviously didn't know him personally (I might have shook his hand in a reception line or something, but that's about it), but I've always considered him very inspiring. Peace to his family and close ones.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

See you when you're back Corwin!

GMDQ - I saw that headline this morning, shocking and very sad. It's a real loss on many, many levels.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

BTW I did hear from the Norv a couple days ago. After moving he got hit by grad school like a truck. He said he was hoping to get back into things soon. I hope he is able to join when he can, but I also encouraged him to do whatever he needed to carry on with his priorities.

For now I am still going to operate with Emberar sticking around town in the background; if he is able to join in I can work a way to get him back in later.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Good to hear he's ok other than grad school blues.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Corwin, you with us?

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Happy Halloween everyone! May you all get the treats you want and give the tricks you enjoy :) (And only receive the tricks you deserve!)

Happy Halloween y'all!

My fellow gamers/adventurers: I hate to have to say this, but I think I’m gonna have to bow out of my PBP games. We all know how real life can rear its ugly head, and I’m just not finding the time to work on my online hobby these days. I can barely keep up with reading posts, let alone posting any actions on my own, and I’d rather not limp along in some half-ass fashion without being able to give the time and energy that these games and our characters deserve. I wish you all the best and thank you for including me in your stories. -Rob

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Oof. You do what you gotta, m'friend. Real life claims the lives of more adventurers than any GM can. Thanks for joining us, Corwin has been fun to add to the story.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

I'm very sorry to hear that, Rob, but I always appreciate it when players (and GMs) communicate clearly when they need to go, and remain realistic about what they can and can't commit to. You had a great style and I'll miss you in this game and in Vayelan's.

I think while I've heard from the Norv, he's still absorbed in grad school, we are down to three players (plus an NPC cohort). That's where we started so I feel fine continuing with this leg of the journey (which was a sidetrip to recongeal the party and gather some extra loot and rep). We can assess where we are after Yohas Graveyard (which I am going to try to keep short).

I'll move us forward in a bit (I'm on the bus at the moment).

Corwin - farewell and thanks for joining us!

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Infamy updated on the campaigns tab.

Wrap up everything you want to wrap up and then it's time to sail to Yoha's Graveyard (unless you decide not to, but I'm assuming we are headed there!).
