S&S Ship Battle Map

Loot Sheet

A small band of mariners find themselves press-ganged into service on the Wormwood, led by the fearsome Barnabas Harrigan. Will they turn their misfortune to glory on the high seas, or will folly lead them to an ignominious watery death?

Is it possible to grab a Cure Light Wounds wand here?

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Yup!

Male Sylph Witch 8 |HP: 47/56| AC/T/FF 20/16/16| F 3 R 7 W 7 CMD 20| Init +5, Per +3, Prof (Sailor) +10

Then I shall do so.

My last bit of shopping is to make sure we have something to melt down those silver bars Lark got from the monastery. I hope a small crucible will be enough to melt and pour the silver when we're ready to make a new seal.

I suppose we also need to get Corwin to hand over their necklace.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

I'm actually not quite sure what to do with Corwin. His amulet was of course supposed to play a role, as was his family history. In character he wouldn't give up on finding out more. It feels weird to write him out, but I struggle to bit PCs well long-term. I can minmize the history stuff but it would make sense to keep him there. Would one of you be willing to bot Corwin, at least as far as combat goes?

He would then leave after receiving closure from his personal quest.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I'm already in charge of Sandara in combat, but if Lark won't bot him, I will.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Oh, and yes, Lark can get a crucible to melt the silver. Let's call it 5 gp.

Yes, I can bot Corwin.

A crucible and some charcoal, unless a torch would be enough heat to melt silver.

Reviewing some previous notes I see I also talked about bringing extra food. An early symptom of the mist is mundane hunger, we might as well prepare to treat that since it's easy.

Male Sylph Witch 8 |HP: 47/56| AC/T/FF 20/16/16| F 3 R 7 W 7 CMD 20| Init +5, Per +3, Prof (Sailor) +10

Thanks for taking that on. I can barely manage myself.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Extra food makes sense. I'm guessing Sandara mentioned it to you as normally you don't show a lot of that. Admittedly, Thren's worse off than you there!

Thanks for botting Corwin. Now we each have an extra person or dragon :)

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Thanks, Lark. We can assume Corwin grows quiet as he contemplates his grandfather's history, but this way we also keep the fighter for this party, which will make it easier for me to... uh, not kill you all.

I mean, I don't want it to be too easy...

Please post in the game thread when you're ready to go.

Charcoal is fine and inexpensive--we'll say 1 sp a pound for properly processed charcoal.

I probably should've had Lark run around behind the officer for flanking last turn! I was too worried about the AoO, but now I'm looking at having Corwin make that same move. I don't think it's even possible for him to dodge the AoO.

Unless... should Corwin Bull Rush the officer, try to make it fall to the lower level? Also, we need to protect Threnody.

Kahuranga - are you still going to try that hex again?

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I'd suggest going with something simple: Corwin carve the officer up. Tends to work well!

Forces of Nature Battlemap

I will note Corwin does far more damage than 2d6 falling damage. But pushing the officer to the lower level will make him have to move rather than attack and gives you more positioning/rescuing Threnody time.

(Which is to say I am not advising you either way, just hopefully pointing obvious features of both tactics)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Best wishes to Lathiira and all others interfacing with retail this week.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I wish it would be merely 'interfacing' instead of 'surviving' alas, but thanks all the same!

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Happy Thanksgiving all! May be spotty the next few days.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Unless you Christmas shop today or tomorrow, in which case Bah Humbug! :)

Don't mind me, testing the die roller: 10d20 ⇒ (15, 20, 15, 12, 16, 19, 16, 8, 16, 7) = 144

Don't mind me, testing the die roller: 10d20 ⇒ (14, 13, 19, 1, 11, 1, 11, 11, 9, 11) = 101

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

First: damage falling rocks does to Thren.
Second: same, to Lark.
Third: same to Kahuranga?

LOL

Forces of Nature Battlemap

I will move us forward tomorrow.

For future reference, can Corwin move over the stairwell to reach the other side of this platform?

Also, the Misfortune Hex applies to all rolls while it lasts (1 round in this case). I think that is what Kahuranga is using: AoN Witch Hexes

Corwin's bow should be able to do some damage to Yoha, but I was really hoping to kill that ghast he's engaged with. Either way, nine rounds without our casters is going to be rough.

Maybe we should withdraw downstairs?

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I'd say we should finish what we've got. Without casters it'll be a physical fight for the most part. Withdrawing into smaller quarters will actually now put the casters at greater risk because it'll put the enemy closer to them.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Threnody, I am sure you have a highly well formed strategic plan, but I was thinking maybe you, you know, might want to read over your class abilities. You know, just for fun and no reason in particular.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Yes, I'm aware that I could switch performances over to Rallying Cry. Gotta wait my turn. I'm also sure it's against my entire existence to have well-formed strategic plans :)

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Only reason I said anything is that your party members may not be aware of your class abilities, and it appears Lark wants to discuss tactics. Also I was feeling highly silly when I typed that and rereading it it sounds much more snotty than I intended. So I am sorry about that.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Also: I had an extremely busy weekend and today is going to be insane due to a huge event I've organized that happens today. I had hoped to post yesterday and got distracted; I apologize. I will post the turn as soon as I can but it may not be until late tonight or tomorrow. Things will be much easier for me from about Wednesday on. I am sorry for the delay.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Oh, I took it as silly, no worries.

But, to continue with tactics: if I can get everyone in range I can try to help everyone make a new save against the fear, Lark.

Excellent! The bonuses from IC are always a huge help, but if it's possible to counter the panic then that's the priority, I think.

Is it a move action for you to start and change songs?

GMDQ - no worries.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Stop a song is free, start is a move now that I'm 7th level.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Again sorry for the delay. Having a moment where I had my game notes, brain, and time to post an extensive combat post all at the same time was not happening. I'm still not sure where my brain is.

Good news is I am past the holiday event crunch and things should be smoother from here. Obviously I presume things will be slow around Christmas for most of us but I will have more time to post otherwise.

Questions:

Lark heals 10 HP from Sandara's Channel Energy, right?

May I have Lark spend a Hero Point after the saving throw for +4 to beat the paralysis?

Can Corwin move past Sandara to reach the melee around Lark? Can he walk on the squares between the stairwell and the pit?

Forces of Nature Battlemap

You absolutely can spend the hero point to add to your Saving throw.

Re: Channel energy. Channel energy has to either target living or undead creatures, not both. Lathiira didn't describe it explicitly, but as he rolled saves for the undead, obviously that's what Sandara was targeting. So no, unfortunately you are not healed.

Corwin can walk on the narrow spaces but they halve his movement, because he has to squeeze over what for him a tight space. I would allow a DC 20 Escape Artist check to move normally through that space, but I doubt Corwin could make that in any case. He could also attempt an Acrobatics check to make a long jump over the area (DC 20 for 20 feet), but for similar reasons I am not sure he'd be able to succeed.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I did think about healing you Lark, but I decided that blasting the enemy might get them to focus on something other than eating you. Since you getting eaten would be a bit of a drag and all. DQ did deduce I wasn't going for healing the living, I needed to remember to specify that.

Lathiira - no worries about the healing, I think you made the right call.

I'm going to ask y'all to check my math: with Haste Corwin's move is now 60' so a double move should get him into position to flank Yoha with Lark.

I don't think there's any way for Corwin to get in a melee attack this round and it feels like setting up for next round or a potential AoO is marginally better than drawing his bow and shooting...

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Also remember his weapon will have better reach and bypasses their DR.

Regarding Corwin's round 5 move - I described it as a "step" but he actually moved 10 feet. Sorry about the confusion.

Corwin was 5' away from Yoha and 10' from Lark, so he had to move 10' to get adjacent to Lark for that reach-around attack.

Either way, Taniwha just killed it, right? Perfect time for a critical hit!

Forces of Nature Battlemap

He did indeed, and how! And a great way to bring this combat to a close, just in time for the holiday.

I'll be absorbed in family stuff for the next few days. Though I will check in with my phone from time to time, it will be intermittent and I presume many of you also have family obligations this time of year. Merry almost Christmas, Happy 1st Day of Hannukah, and joyous growing of the light for you all.

If any of you are going to be incommunicado past 12/26 please let me know so I have a sense of when to really push to get things going. Thanks!

GMDQ wrote:

Yes, all those things!

Picking back up later in the week should work for me. I'll have at least one more travel day the following week.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

I have gotten an Xmas miracle and I am off both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day before I go back to the grind. So before I forget, Merry Christmas to all, Happy Hannukah, and all that good stuff!

Forces of Nature Battlemap

Hi folks, hope your holidays have been going well. Please check in when you are ready to go.

FYI I have made this offer here to a group to apply to this game since we are low on players, if they can't find a better option. Let me know if any questions/concerns.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Ready to move on. Let's see how it goes with the other team!

Male Sylph Witch 8 |HP: 47/56| AC/T/FF 20/16/16| F 3 R 7 W 7 CMD 20| Init +5, Per +3, Prof (Sailor) +10

I am traveling over the weekend, but should be able to post once a day.

I’m all for a few more players, though I’m enjoying our team.

I'm traveling tomorrow (Monday). Afterwards I should be on a more normal schedule.

Female Elf Bard (scholar of legends) 20

Happy New Year's! May we all get lots of loot without lots of hp loss or Fort saves :)

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Happy New Year!

Happy (very late) New Year!

I totally forgot to mention I was traveling again yesterday (Sat) - sorry about the delayed posting.

BTW, Kahuranga, I never imagined having a giant spider help us move this statue around, but I think it's fantastic. I love the image of Corwin standing opposite your spider-form toting around a giant, scary statue.

Forces of Nature Battlemap

It is an amazing plan and turned out way better than I expected. I wanted to give you a chance to do some creative problem solving and the vermin form was awesome.
