Kahuranga |

Ahoy, everyone. This is Kahuranga on deck and ready to join the crew. Please feel free to take a look at his skills and spell selection to see if they need to be tweaked to best fit with the group. If that is ok with GMDQ, of course. Thanks all for choosing my submission. I’ll try not to let you down.

Lathiira |

I note you have aggressive thundercloud listed twice as a second-level spell.
Thren as party bard will have buff spells primarily for herself and others, including already having haste. Though with our previous arcane spellcaster, we did agree that having multiple casters with that spell isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Otherwise, welcome to the crew!

GMDQ |

Welcome Kahuranga and Corwin!
A bit of a fill in on where we are--I may have said some or all of this before, but making sure we are all on the same page:
Our other players are Lark, human rogue (player: thermopyle); Threnody, arcane duelist bard (player: Lathiira); and Emberar/Sunstruck, half-elf cleric/horizon walker (player: the Norv).
This is a Skull and Shackles game where we used (a slightly tweaked version of) the Plunder and Peril Module as a substitute for Book 2 of the Adventure Path. If you're familiar with Skull and Shackles, if you didn't use Plunder and Peril, there may be characters and locations unfamiliar (which is of course not a bad thing). We've finished Plunder and Peril, and the party has taken over a Gholgani ruin called Ghoral Rey, on a tiny little island called Brightglass Island in the northwest Shackles.
We are now in a "sandbox" before moving into Skull and Shackles Book 3 proper. The party, officers of the ship Besmara's Whim, need to gather some Plunder (loot in increments of 1000 gp) and Infamy (this AP's version of Reputation) before they go petition the Hurricane King for official recognition as a Free Captain of the Shackles. They are also working on hiring on crew as well as labor to build up their fortress on Brightglass Island. They've gotten into a bit of a trouble (a fight they picked caused an item they possessed to become cursed) and they have come to Plumetown to see what they can do about that as well as take care of other business.
Where your characters come in is here in Plumetown, as you know. A really nasty rainstorm has just passed.
If you're ready to jump right in, you can just show up in the tavern they are about to go to to begin their efforts to impress pirates for recruitment and Infamy. You may approach them as you like (I will try to create bridges for connection as needed as roleplay ensues).
The campaign page may not be 100% up to date but it SHOULD have any relevant information you need listed. The links in my GM profile include links to the crew (which I will update with our new recruits), the ship, and other key info, as well as battle maps. Please let me know if you have any questions. I STRONGLY encourage open communication and feedback.
I will note to ALL of the group that I have a very broad, general idea of what I imagine happening here, but a lot of the precise action is up to you and where you decide to go (i.e., I am winging a good deal of this). Your hands are on the rudder, I'll tell you what you see along the way.

Corwin Corke |

hey, I just need to make a few quick fixes on my gear.
As an easy way to join in, Corwin has been working for the Plumetown guard for a while and is looking for more interesting work. If anyone were to advertise or even chat loudly about any opportunities, he'd probably approach them.

GMDQ |

Corwin, if you wish you can even overhear the conversation they just had about where to go and what they are talking about.
Is everyone good with moving forward to the Black Keg?

Emberar "Sunstruck" Lealtus |

I’m good as well—sorry for the lack of response, my wife caught the flu and I’ve been focusing on her and work. Welcome, Corwin and Kahuranga!

GMDQ |

Belated, but I hope your wife feels better, Sunstruck.
Folks, I have finally updated the campaign page, to include the conclusion of Plunder and Peril and document what has happened in this Interlude so far. You are encouraged to skim it over when you have time so you remember what you are doing. :)
I've also added the map of Plumetown toward the top of the page, and updated your infamy score (you need 3 more points!).

GMDQ |

Okay, clarification: you need 3 more before petitioning the Hurricane King (along with a bare minimum 6 plunder).
You can also earn at most 5 per settlement per infamy threshold.
You can and should of course earn as much as you are able.

GMDQ |

Kahuranga, I keep forgetting to say this--if you haven't, please also make an alias for your tidepool dragon. The way we handle familiars, companions, cohorts, etc. is that the PC is controls them in combat and make any other strategic decisions and, when warranted, roleplays the familar; BUT so you aren't talking to yourself, I will roleplay how they may react in conversation to you (including disagree when they might be wont) or share information they would have when you wouldn't be aware. It's essentially shared control between player and GM, with player in charge of strategic decisions.
I also will warn that I can sometimes forget the presence of familiars when they are not immediately active, so if you need me to mention something about your familiar, please remind me.

GMDQ |

Post coming in tonight folks. Got several trails to follow so hopefully I'll cover it all.
I'll note I've got something planned eventually event-wise, but right now this is your sandbox. Anything you want to explore, study, learn, etc. now is the time to do it. If you think a roll will help, please roll it (i.e., social rolls, knowledge local checks, Sense Motive, etc. etc.).
If you have nothing major to input at any time please say so so I know to move forward.

Corwin Corke |

Corwin is pretty much just waiting for the group to weigh anchor. Technically, his name might still be on the board down with the oracles, but he doesn't have any faith that they'll ever call his name, so he doesn't care.

Emberar "Sunstruck" Lealtus |

Emberar is legitimately interested in wandering the town, but I don't have any particular things I want to visit - the Eyes of Keeba seem like the biggest, most write-up-worthy things. He's just trying to absorb the atmosphere for his readers. :P

GMDQ |

Oh, Corwin and Kahuranga--if you don't mind giving me your email addresses (PM or what have you), I will email you a map of the Shackles that has some points of interest marked on it. Everyone should have a copy.

GMDQ |

Folks, I'm having a lot of trouble with page loading since the site maintenance yesterday. I'll update us once the site seems to be behaving better--I don't want to type a long post and then lose it.

GMDQ |

They fixed it about 2 hours after I made that post, apparently. But that's a good thing!

Emberar "Sunstruck" Lealtus |

Con is relatively rare—I’m in a six-person game involving a Harrow deck where each of us got the Suit that matched our primary ability score...except the hard, which got Con, because he does most of the healing and there’s a sorcerer so she got Cha. :P

GMDQ |

Lark, I have a vague memory you took some kind of ability damage (Dex) awhile ago... did you ever have that cured? Or is that a thing that needs to happen? I can't remember, and can't find it in the thread.
Kahuranga, please get your mini stat block into your alias--put into the "race" field of your character sheet.
Lark's, as an example: HP 60/68 AC 18 T 13 FF 15 | CMD 19 | Fort+4, Ref+8, Will+6 | Init+6 Perc/sight+7/+11]
Uh, not that it's going to be relevant really soon or anything (hint: it might be relevant really soon): when combat arises, I will post everyone's mini stat blocks, pasted from what's in your alias, so it is important to keep that up to date, as I am using that information to know if monsters hit, etc. I also post obvious stats of foes so you know if you hit or not, so you can roll damage (you generally know monster AC and saves, but you may not necessarily know weaknesses/resistances unless you have tested them in combat or get the information from a successful Knowledge check).
If you create an effect, like a spell, that requires a saving throw, go ahead and roll the enemy saving throw; likewise I will roll yours; this helps keep combat in PBP flowing quicker.

GMDQ |

Right! That's what I was thinking of. Just as a reminder that may be something you want to see about.

Emberar "Sunstruck" Lealtus |

I’m ok; sorry I haven’t been more active. Life came at me kinda sideways and you guys move so fast (generally a good thing!) that I feel like I’m always crawling out from under a pile of new posts. This week was especially crazy so...getting caught up now.

GMDQ |

I was worried we'd been moving too slowly! A lot happening, bringing in players and all. If y'all as a whole need adjustment to the pace then let me know.
BTW speaking of slowing down, I am going to be on the go the next couple days. I'll move us forward when I can. I didn't want to leave folks hanging either though.

Kahuranga |

Ok, got my stat blocks into both aliases. I realized looking at my character that I had wanted to make two changes. One is not a big deal. Just wanted to pick up a Familiar Satchel for the wee dragon to hide in when things get rough.
The other is more significant. I had meant to swap out breeze kissed for air affinity.
Breezes seem to follow most sylphs wherever they go, but some sylphs are better able to control these winds than others. A Sylph with this racial trait surrounds herself with swirling winds, gaining a +2 racial bonus to AC against non-magical ranged attacks. The Sylph can calm or renew these winds as a swift action. Once per day, the Sylph can channel this wind into a single gust, making a bull rush or trip combat maneuver attempt against one creature within 30 feet. Whether or not the attempt succeeds, the winds are exhausted and no longer provide a bonus to the sylph’s AC for 24 hours. This is a supernatural ability. This racial trait replaces air affinity.

GMDQ |

Sunstruck, we are waiting on you. This is a decision everyone gets input on.

GMDQ |

I don't need to RP out the cleric services if you don't want to. There is a cleric at the Temple of Pharasma who can assist you, for a cost of 380 gp.
But you all should also discuss if there is anything else you wish to accomplish while you are here. For example -- other shopping (any other precautions you wish to take re: Yoha's Graveyard?), any other recruitment, and any other Infamy earning (you've earned 2 points, you can earn up to 3 more here), as well as any exploration, gambling, or whatever else you would like.
We don't need to RP out shopping--but note what you want to buy, where you shop, and whatever it is you want, make sure to mark the purchase down on your character sheets.

Emberar "Sunstruck" Lealtus |

For owl’s wisdom, it would be cheaper to buy one scroll for each of us of the basic spell than to buy the mass version. The reverse is true of protection from evil.
Both of these, of course, are 1 min/level spells, so the question of whether we’ll need a wand is valid...

Emberar "Sunstruck" Lealtus |

That’s true! I was assuming it didn’t matter whether we technically breathed in or not...wind spells could also be useful.

GMDQ |

FWIW, because you made me think about this... I am not sure air bubble protects against inhaled gases/vapors/miasmas; it creates a "pocket of breathable air" but technically air that contains infectious or poisonous gas is "breathable" (you can totally breathe it in and benefit from the oxygen, there's just other particles there that may be harmful). It is a 1st level spell that seems to be designed more particularly to ease issues of being specifically in underwater or airless environments (breathing and loading a weapon in particular); the spell suggests the intent doesn't necessarily include environments where you can breathe already, there is just something dangerous in the air. The much higher (5th) level spell life bubble specifies it protects against inhaled diseases and poisons, which also suggests to me that 1st level spell is not intended to be that powerful. After all, this means the spell would render you immune entirely to any inhaled poisons or diseases and I am not sure that is appropriate for 1st level spell.
As I think about it, I imagine the way air bubble works is it is an area around the face (or an object) that creates dry, breathable oxygen, but it isn't impenetrable. That would require the higher level life bubble.
Counters or other suggestions?
As for what source materials are used for magic items--Ultimate Equipment and Pirates of the Inner Sea as well as the Adventure Path itself (even though we're technically side-tripping off the Adventure Path at the moment).
