Howdy everyone. Welcome to GM Chadius's Twisted Circle (Classic)
This is for Classic (not Core) characters, subtier 4-5. Please decide on your characters and then post in the Gameplay thread when you're ready.
I know at least 1 person won't be ready until Saturday, so we'll start actually adventuring then.

Happy to be chosen. This is subtier 4-5? If so, I'd like to go with a sword and board ranger who I think is level 4...let me double check. Another option is a level 5 barbarian.
EDIT: Yes, Ranger is level 4.2 so I'll choose him.

![]() |

Bom also has a wolf animal companion, so that's another melee body in case that influences anyone's decision.
Also will pick up some oil of bless weapon.

![]() |

Turns out I already have a potion of Bless weapon and two scrolls. Going with a Jade Wayfinder. Buying one for 250 and using the 2PP to make it Jade.

![]() |

Okay, Mike here, checking in with my skald! I'll let you know about any purchases by end of day I think, but I should be mostly good to go.

![]() |

Zandric purchases the following items:
alchemical silver morningstar (98 gp)
scroll of endure elements (2) (50 gp)
oil of bless weapon (2) (100 gp)
potion of protection from evil (2) (100 gp)
vermin repellent (2) (10 gp)
potion of touch of the sea (50 gp)
EDIT: and why not...
cloak of resistance +1
Total expenses: 1,408 gp

If you haven't already, please post in the discussion thread with this information so I know who to give the chronicle too at the end of the scenario:
- Player Name
- Character Name
- PFS #
- Faction
- Day Job
- Progression Speed (Optional, I'll assume it's normal speed)
I've had a few issues where I haven't been able to report because someone forgets, so it's better to do this now rather than later. If you decide to give the chronicle to someone else, just give the word.

FYI it was the last day of school today (I teach high school) so that's why I have been too busy to post today. I will post in the morning. :) Well fought everyone.

I'm going to be fairly scarce again this week. My wife's father's health has taken a turn for the worse. He has been battling cancer for 2 years. Last week we were informed that it has metastasized into his stomach. He has been moved to hospice care. The whole family is congregating in Florida (we live in Kansas City) where her dad lives. I'll try to post when I can.
I will be home next Sunday and should be back to a regular posting schedule.

That's really bad news. Very sorry to hear that. Health is so important and when you lose it, nothing else really matters. Hope you are able to stay interested in the game, as I enjoy teaming with you.

I'm sorry to read that, Ghrezzd. Take the time needed to be with your family, it is what is most important.

![]() |

Just a head's up to say that my post rate will be spotty next week, as I'm in youth camp. Bot me if you need to :)

Man, it's such a luxury to roll with arcane casters. I can see why a group of casters did the Waking Rune in hard mode and coasted through it.

3.5 and Pathfinder simply aren't designed for Alpha Strikes. It's why Wizards are Tier 1: Can break the campaign unless they agree with the GM not to.
Then again, this scenario is more about the investigation than the combat. Good thing Pierre can sweettalk his way through anything.

Agreed. Nice job all around. Ghrezzd is pretty useless when it comes to social skills. Glad we had plenty of that in the group to get us through those parts of the scenario.
And sorry about the nuclear explosion there at the end, but with such a wide open area to fight, and both wizards having it flat footed, I saw the opportunity for us to drop 11d6 on it in a hurry. Timely rolls on both sides of the battle made short work of it.

Please don't apologize for alpha striking. I would be annoyed if teammates withheld that kind of power and then someone died. Bom got his kills in at the start. Was not really looking forward to the cloaker fight.

![]() |

I think the only time where this can be an annoyance is if one character burns a bunch of expensive consumables in preparation for the fight. If you think an alpha might end it or is necessary, might be good to communicate that ahead of time.
"I plan on fireballing that cloaker back to the abyss, so you might want to hold on to that potion of fly"

I actually exchanged a series of PMs with the guy who invented the tier system on Brilliant Gameologist. I personally think the Tier system involves a bit of misinformation.
What really breaks the games are spells, not spell casters. Unfettered access to a ridiculous number and breadth of spells that trivializes most encounters. However, a Wizard doesn't have unlimited access to every spell at the start of an adventure. A Wizard or Cleric has to pick a specific set before the adventure starts and a Sorcerer has a much more limited choice.
The typical Tier 1 rationalizations I've read are based on a fallacy: That a wizard always has a spell that can solve the problem. When presented with a specific set of challenges, the arcane caster is demonstrated to be able to complete all the tasks while a same level martial character cannot. But the thought experiments are bogus because the wizard has perfect knowledge of what the tasks are. What if the wizard prepared for an underwater adventure and it was a desert adventure? What if the wizard thought she'd be fighting fire elementals and it turns out she's fighting water elementals? If all your spells are Fireball, then you won't have Water Breathing
In any event, higher level wizards are tremendous. Even more so in PFS when there are so few encounters, a Wizard is generally not going to run out of spells.

Apologies, my player name is "Arrowhawk on Mythweavers".
Edit, are you running anything else? Is anyone sticking around or need some more muscle?

![]() |

Thanks a lot, GM Chadius! Once again a pleasure to be at your table :)

GM chadius |

Sorry about that, Bom. I updated the chronicle.
I don't have anything planned yet. I might have another 3-7 lined up but I need to prepare.
For those wondering about the mysteries of Mercy:
Amenira came here to observe the great tree, and also grew suspicious when she kept noticing shredded plant fragments around town. She created dolls for the children and used the enter image spell to spy on them. She concluded there was a powerful seed buried somewhere near town that protected the land and began to search for it. The cloaker was an unlikely defender of the seed who ambushed and killed Amenira when she got too close to the truth. In her last moments of life, Amenira transferred her soul to a locket carried by one of her dolls. It's a pretty traumatic event, and Nira's memories were damaged as a result.
