Closing ranks, the party cautiously move down the corridor.

These doors are solid metal, with little doors in them to look in on the occupants.

Stopping to look in each room, you find them empty. As the party comes upon the corpse of the spider, you see nothing other than legs and pieces of the spider.

The cell block comes to an intersection just past the cell block, where Reillana hears some noises of motion. Drawing weapons and cautiously moving to look around the corrider, the party is not surprised when a colony of dog-sized spiders suddenly emerge from hiding. Some on the floor, some on the walls, and some on the ceiling.

Skittering sideways, the spiders quickly move to attack the party.

Retaining his greataxe in his off hand, Deric draws a spear and throws it at the spider due north of him.

"I think the bottleneck is a good idea. In fact, backing up 5 feet would be even better."

Correction (as I reconsider the 3-D battlescape): The ceilings are 15ft high, which means the small sized spiders on the ceiling are 10 feet above the party (and thus within reach range). Spiders on the wall and on the ceiling are currently in the same effective plane, just with a different orientation. Argggghhh!

Deric's spear misses the spider on the ceiling and clatters to the ground in the hallway beyond them.

"Gods damn this spider-infested ruin!" Reillana brings her crossbow to bear on one of the ceiling-crawling spider, invoking arcane power upon the bolt before firing.

Spider 1 scurries over to Deric and attempts to bite him, but the teeth are unable to pierce the warrior's armor.

Paeral, starting with the spider that Reillana hit, fires twice at the big arachnids...

Paeral's second arrow strikes the spider, but is not enough to bring it down. It is flat-footed, but the diagonal to the ceiling puts it beyond 30ft, taking it out of PBS and Sneak Attack range

Spider 2 advances and attacks D,S,U: 1d3 ⇒ 1 Deric, also getting a mouth full of metal.

The wounded Spider 8 scurries across the ceiling to get behind the party, and spider 5 scurries across the wall in an attempt to get closer. 8 would provoke from Squint and Ulyi, but they are currently flat-footed

Barkot growls in annoyance. "Dese spiders're a menace! C'n ya 'magine what'd happen if dey got loose in Magnimar proper an' started breedin'? Time ta clear dis place out!" He barks out a short prayer to Soralyon, and moves back down the hall as Deric suggested.

Barkot casts Bane on the spiders (50' radius should be enough to catch them all, although there might be a few - such as the pair on the far right - who are not in line of effect).

@Barkot, did you move your icon? I think it is still in the original position.

The spell's energy washes over the spiders, but none of them seem to notice.

Spider 3 scuttles forward and attacks S,U: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Ulyi, managing to draw some blood.

Changing my mind on that bottleneck stategy, Barkot. @the party: So much for the bottleneck. I think we are best off in the room. At least that rules out the walls.

"AUUUGH!" Squint yells out as the sheer multitude of legs, fangs, and eyes overwhelms his tolerance. He lashes out with his lance (at with #4 or #5, whichever he can reach) in revulsion.

Lance, Silver, Reach: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 221d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

"This is hideous!" he screeches as his lance sinks into quivering arachnid flesh.

Fortitude Save (vs poison): 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 4 = 28 I'll assume that works.

"You're mispronouncing the word," the toothy eidolon grins. "It's pronounced 'dee-lish-us'!"

Ulyi repositions himself and lashes out at the spider that bit him.

Five foot step. Bite using reach. Power attack.

The eidolon grins at his prey. "Don't play with your food!" he smiles.

Squint stabs Spider 5, causing a large amount of blood to splatter all over Deric's armor, but Ulyi's attack just misses the dodging spider.

Spider 6 scurries its way along the wall, provoking an Attack from Squint and Ulyi.

Spider 10 travels across the ceiling, then begins moving down the wall, eyeing Squint. Spider 7 follows suit, beginning to move down the wall toward Paeral.

"They're surrounding us!" Reillana cries as the swarm of spiders scuttle along the walls and ceilings all around the group. Reloading her crossbow, she points it upward at the spider directly above her and fires again.

Squint's lance tip scrapes against the wall near the ground, completely throwing off his aim.

"Gladly," Ulyi muses blithely, snaking his neck out to bite at the spider that Squint couldn't hit.

As the skittering forms press in, Reillana tosses the crossbow aside and draws her blade. Brandishing the blade at the manifold eyes reflecting the light, the masked elf's voice rises in a stirring battle hymn.

I'm not sure whether Barkot and Reillana are flanking #9 or not, given its position on the wall, so I'm not including the bonus. If you decide we are flanking, please add the bonus onto the attack roll below.

Barkot hums along with Reillana's hymn, hopelessly off-key, and lunges at the spider clinging to the wall between them.

No, one of you would have to be in the air to get flanking. I had the same thought when thinking about whether the spiders might be able to get a flanking bonus and decided against it.

Paeral successfully evades the spider and sinks an arrow into it, as Barkot slashes the spider attacking Reillana.

Spider 10 is chopped in half, sending viscera splattering against the wall.

Chasing down its chosen dinner, spider 3 attempts to corner Paeral, but comes away with nothing but the taste of leather.

Squint screams as the spider's venom courses through his system, his voice decreasing in volume slightly as he grows weaker. Ulyi steps back and the halfling tries to drive his lance through the venomous creature.

Reillana's voice is high and bright, but there's a waver and strain to several of the notes as her breathing becomes more labored. The numb sensation from the spider's venom spreads.

Ah. Forgot Reillana's Inspire Courage. Add +1 to both Squint and Ulyi's attack rolls, please. It probably changes nothing.

Barkot continues humming along with Reillana's hymn, but he looks concerned. Once again, he slashes at the spider clinging to the wall between him and the bard (#9), but misses badly and hits the wall instead. The crash of steel slamming into stone echoes up and down the hallway.

Her blade suddenly gleaming with heatless arcane fire, Reillana lashes out at the spider menacing her. Her voice strengthens a bit as the numbing sensations stops spreading.
