He hesitates at his quarterstaff.

"This too? This is for keeping the bird busy chewing..."

Jagged Stone gestures at the large bird that lands several feet away from him and then the dozens of scratching and indicators of the bird's work gnawing away at the wood.

Aetherys hesitates, then nods. She clenches her teeth and stares at the guard as she reluctantly abandons her better half. "Very well, I shall abide by your rules. If anything happens to my blade, you will regret it."

From the blade comes a low sound of mourning.

Everyone hands over their weapons to the guards, including the quarterstaff. They are ushered into the Secure Market.

As you enter the market, you see odds and ends that range from oblong metal disks and animals that come from regions of the world that you have never even heard of. The merchant are hocking their wares from every stall. Come get your snuzzle-wangers! No better guardian for your house! Only 100,000GP!

As you wind through the market, you see a stall with a large sign that reads Marafi's Wares. Two half-orc guards stand outside the stall, watching all of the potential buyers. Marafi is currently speaking to another customer about a katana. The man wields it with ease. He says a word and it becomes engulfed in a dull grey flame. You see a statue sitting on a table on the far side of the stall, about 5' behind one of the guards, next to pillar and an alcove.

Saldin Marafi’s stall is at the back of a narrow notch in the edge of the Secure Market, an architectural oddity that should make it possible for the Pathfinders to steal the statue from him undetected by the guards at the gate.

"Aye ... we should ask nicely. We do not want to be on the wrong side of the authorities here I am guessing. Perhaps we could even barter for it as we did for the information that led us to him, especially if he is not trying to keep it for himself."

Dvalin nods politely at the two guards and enters Marafi's stall to look over the wares for sale ... paying attention to any conversation his companions may engage in.

Jagged Stone shrugs when he recognizes the katana being demonstrated to a customer. He shares his thoughts with Dvalin standing nearby.

"No weapons for us, but weapons for sale?"

The oread narrows his eyes at the statue on the table, knowing a thing or two about rocks, being a rock person himself.

"Jagged Stone agrees. Tell the man the rock is dangerous, like Jagged Stone's roc is dangerous, too..."

Saldin Marafi's customer seems to nod and the man passes the weapon to another bodyguard who hurries from out of the back of the stall. The merchant and the customer shake and the man begins to walk away.

Saldin sees that Dvalin moves towards the statue and intercepts him. Greetings, gallant dwarf! I see that you are interested in the Iron Eagle! This rare item is quite the find. A rare Osiriani treasure that has made its way into my possession. I recently purchased this item from a procurer of rare artifacts and he assures me that it is 100% legitimate.

The merchant picks up the statue and let Dvalin look at it from an even closer standpoint. Dvalin gets the idea that the merchant is the only person that should touch the merchandise. 20,000GP seems like the right amount of money for such an item, wouldn't you say?

"Interesting ... This piece looks remarkably like the one Matzal took from the Osirian Cultural Ministry not long ago. Too bad that little stunt cost him his life. If the Pathfinderss leave their weapons behind, there are a couple of weapons close at hand. The poles holding up awning stalls can be used as quarterstaffs, though it takes a full round action to detach them from the awning. A couple of pieces of machinery make serviceable, if unwieldy clubs and can be used as improvised weapons. Lastly, the spice itself can be a weapon. Pathfinders can scoop up a handful of spice and make a ranged touch attack as an improvised weapon with a maximum range of 5 feet. This action provokes an attack of opportunity. If a Pathfinders hits with a handful of spice, his opponent must make a DC 13 Fortitude save or be blinded for 1 round.

Go for it.

Aetherys strikes Saldin with her makeshift staff, but she finds herself too clumsy with that large, impractical weapon.
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Xerance and Aetherys both miss their intended targets with their quarterstaff and Victoria attempts to swing the piece of machinery she picked up like a club at one of the bodyguards.

Club-Improvised: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 4 = -1

However she misses her target completely.

The remaining bodyguards continue to attack the instigator, Dvalin.

Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 2 = 24
Quarterstaff Confirmation: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 2 = 22

The first bodyguard misses, but the other one catches Dvalin off guard and slams the end of the staff into the side of his head.

Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 5) + 2 = 8

The half-orc guard will 5' step away from the roc that decimated his friend.

Is the tengu picture Scissors?

Jagged, finally with a weapon in hand, flexes his fingers on the hard wooden support beam and tests it's weight.

He blinks at the guard and gives him a goofy grin.

"Uh oh, Jagged Stone's armed now... Uh oh, for you... in case I wasn't.. oh, forget it..."

With a grunt, he steps forward and swings the makeshift staff, whistling for Scissors to follow his lead.

No worries. Your early post said the half-orc took a 5ft step away from the roc, so I figured he could take a 5ft back towards him, which is why I posted a full round attack. You could pick one of those attacks for an AoO then?

@Jagged Stone: The Roc wasn't threatening him at the time, but he was within a 5' step range, which would have allowed the bird to full attack the next round as well, so it was defensive movement.

Dvalin is forced on the defensive and Zartrel lashes out with his quarterstaff to no avail. Saldin sees the dwarf acting cautiously and moves his attention elsewhere.
