Aetherys is a lithe elven girl bearing long, well-kept blond hair flowing down to her waist. Some of it is braided, with small clasps respresenting the Dawnflower. Her eyes are deep blue, and she hardly ever blinks. At her side, a black-bladed scimitar rests, engraved with arabesque.
"Greetings, I am Aetherys and this is Dawnblade." she says as she strokes her scimitar. Background:
"I am what your kind calls a "forlorn". In fact, my whose parents were merchants in a far Qadiran satrapi. Seeing my talent for dancing since I was little, they offered me to the cult of Sarenrae, so I was raised by dervishes of the Dawnflower. However, life in a monastery didn't suit me well, and I decided to explore the world.
My journey brought me to the City at the Center of the World, where I found some companions of fortune with whom I explored an old tower in ruins. There, we found a band of troglodytes who had captured an adventurer, who turned out to be member of the Pathfinder Society. His words were honey to my adventure-eager ears, so he managed to convince me to join the Society. I've taken the three-year apprenticeship under the guidance of Master Zey, who shares with me common origins as well as the love of magic. Here I stand, more ready than ever to embark on a fantastic adventure!" ***** Aetherys's secret is the reason she joined the Silver Crusade after serving under the Qadiran faction for quite some time. Raised by greedy merchants then sold to a Sarenraenite monastery, Aetherys has struggled for a long time between her profane duties to Qadira and the Society, and her true devotion to Sarenrae. She'd been somehow able to make these two notions coexist until she was asked to fulfill a series of simple tasks for Grandmaster Torch. These tasks really tested her mettle, and made her forsake one of the simplest vows she had taken among the Sarenraenites, not taking a life unnecessarily. While she was performing one of the tasks for Torch, she chased an elusive man (named Buri-Buri), and struck the unarmed and innocent man down as she was under pressure from the local guards to surrender. She chose her mission and duties over the core tenets of her faith. Wracked by guilt, she decided to atone for her unforgivable act, and left the Qadiran faction, choosing to devote herself fully to her goddess and to others. To this day, she remains deeply ashamed of her actions, and still hasn't come to terms with it. The mere evocation of the innocent victim of her overzealousness shakens her beyond resolve. ***** In the mirror the wispy shape of the young elven girl you know as Aetherys forms, dashing and springing as she chases a rabbled man throughout a spice warehouse, avoiding guards and workers with increasing difficulty. The man running in front of her appears about to elude her but with a simple arcane word the elf disappears. A moment later, a blade as dark as treachery itself protrudes from the befuddled man, tearing through him and leaving him dead on the spot. What do you think you have just done, young fool? What do you mean? He was about to escape, and Torch would have never given us the infor... Is that so? Did it occur to you that the Dawnflower may have meant for that man to live? I am ashamed to be in your hands in this very moment, to have been the vessel of your incompetence. I only meant to do what was right... Put me down, and never dare lay a finger on me until you have come to understand what it means to truly serve the light. Aetherys gazes into nothingness for what appears to be an eternity, lost in her thoughts, her guilt swallowing her like a crashing tidal wave on the shores of her overzealous blindness. Another vision forms, where the elf's eyes appear to have found peace at last. She is not in the warehouse anymore, but within the walls of a Keleshite monastery. As she treads towards an arabesque-engraved altar, her frail hand extends to caress the dark blade of the scimitar resting on the altar. Buri-Buri's death shall not be in vain. It has opened my eyes to the undeniable fact that doubt is not my enemy, but that it is necessary. There is no absolute truth in man, or elf. I am ashamed of my own alledged certainties, of my overconfidence. I now take you as my burden, not as an instrument of death. Let there be light.
