Mosquito Witch Handouts

I'm at a lost for words...

As Graxzos charges in for the kill, an uneven dungeon tile catches his feet as he comically tumbles and swings very short of striking the pyro. Willem presses on forward and pressures the orcs, he's lack of making contact with any orc's suggest he's taking the less violent approach to just scare them with his swordsmanship. The pyro on the other hand sees this as a challenge and draws her own blade and retaliates at Ser Willem. Catching him off guard, and striking him cleanly.

The other orcs on the other hand, do nothing of threat to the party as one runs hysterically in the dungeon and the other one stunned beyond possibility to move.

Liberty's Edge

Mosquito Witch Handouts

As the Orc recovers from his stunned condition, it's clear to you all that he does not intent to give up like his allies. "Arghhhhhh!" He yells as he comes charging in, but being prepared, and facing off the biggest threat already, the pathfinders knock him out without any worries.

Go ahead and make heals as necessary! Can't leave a friend lying on the floor can you.

As you glean closer in the room, you noticed that far behind them, a sarcophagus is noticed half open, with a body of a skeleton lying outside it, the skeleton appears to be wearing tien armor, similar to that in the picture found in the tome. As you step closer to this area, it is obvious to the party that this area has been desecrated, most likely by the Orcs who have made this their base of operation.

This is probably my biggest concern about the scenario, what you see before right now is your primary & secondary objective, but you don't know what your primary objective is! The scenario is designed so that you have to figure it out as you step into unexplored crypt, but it's not easy to do so! I'll let you guys try to think this through, but I'll nudge in if you fail to realise it.

Appraise DC15:
The holy symbol on the skeletons body is that of Shizuru, the symbol is made of pure silver, it is used typically part of a holy ritual.

Heal DC15:
The samurai died in a burst of holy energy.

Kn. Eng, or survival DC15:
There are signs of erosion on the walls of the tomb, but you know otherwise. This is actually not erosion, but damage as a result of a concentrated burst of holy energy.

Perception DC15:
You notice a discarded piece of vellum in the corner, it is very fragile. It requires to be handled with care or it might break apart.

Perception DC20:
You notice in the ceiling near he wall, a small cubbyhole with a bronze object peeking out of it. (Climb check required to obtain the bronze object)

"This silver holy symbol is that of Shizuru, the Tian-Min goddess of the sun, honor, ancestors, and swordplay. And if I am not mistaken, this kind of symbol was used in holy rituals. But this area has been *cough* desecrated."

He gazes up briefly, and then back to the sarcographus and the skeleton. "There is something interesting in the ceiling. I want someone to look into that." (Read the Perc DC 20 spoiler.)

The vellum is carefully handled by Graxzos, and it does not wither and break in his hands. As Graxzos climbs the wall, he does so easily and is able to secure the bronze object, what it is, is a embossed prayer to Shizuru. The prayer is a warrior’s plea, asking for strength and courage when facing the final moments of life.

The place has become a little more respectable as you place the corpse in the sarcophagus and read the prayer. The prayer though, does not cause anything to happen. Satisfied with your expedition, you head back to Venture Captain Shevar Besnik to give him a report.

He looks to you excited as you return to the lodoge. "Pathfinders! You have returned! Pray tell, what did you find at the site?"

Specifically for scenario completion, you'll need to conclude and explain to venture captain what type of ceremony occurred at the crypt before it was desecrated. And that would be scenario completion for us!

Amelia helps the boys put the body back into the coffin and composes the bones. Once the prayer is said, she says her own little prayer to the powers that be, hoping that the warriors soul may return to rest.

Upon return to the venture captain, Amelia steps up to report once Graxzos is finished.
"Well, sir.. At first we encountered an Ice golem, which we managed to convince to allow us entry into the tomb. Once inside, we found it littered with sprung traps and the bodies of many would be raiders in varying states of decomposition. In this same room, we were attacked by a slime, but it was easily vanquished. Once past that, we encountered a gargoyle standing watch and while we were handling that, the ghosts of some long lost crusaders made an appearance. We were able to simultaneously fight off both threats before entering the next room, where we found a war party of orcs. These orcs would not listen to reason and attacked.. we were forced to defend ourselves by killing most of them. One escaped, I believe. Then we found the room with the skeleton, and it appeared that some unholy rite had been committed there. The walls were blasted with holy energy, and the skeleton was wearing a holy symbol from Tien. We also found a prayer, written supposedly by the warrior, asking for the strength to meet his end honorably. As Graxzos said, we put the body back to rights and then returned here."

Amelia learns some new tricks from Kaspar, then offers to teach him a few in return. Several hours later she exits the library.. her supply of inks running low, but determined to master these new spells! She heads off for some sleep before her next adventure.

Kaspar:
Quick question. I found Boneshaker on D20PFSRD, but I am a bit confused on the way it is written. Do live opponents get a will save? and if so, what is the "partial" effect listed? I assume that the undead get no save and are manipulated per the text, but it doesn't explain the save/fail characteristics for live targets.

Great game, everyone. I very much enjoyed this table and the scenario. Thank you for a really awesome game, GM Batpony!

Dark Archive

The aged scholar is visibly delighted to teach the arts of necromantic magic. He explains it's no often he gets the opportunity to pass on that knowledge.

(If they're alive they get a Fort save for half damage and get to negate the 5 ft of movement. This is why it says "partial" instead of "halves" — because a successful save does something on top of halving the damage. If they're mindless undead they get no save. If they're intelligent undead they get a Fort save to negate the effect. Normally the undead are "immune to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless)" but I think boneshaker is one of those exceptions because it specifically targets undead creatures.)

(It's a really useful spell for necromancers. Not many necromancy spells deal damage, and this one has some good uses on top of dealing damage.)

Boneshaker wrote:

A living creature (...) takes 3d6 points of damage, plus 1d6 additional points of damage per 2 caster levels you have. In addition, you can move the target 5 feet. This movement doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity. A successful saving throw halves the damage and negates the movement.

An undead creature takes no damage. Instead, (...) A successful saving throw negates this effect. A mindless undead creature doesn’t receive a save against this effect.

Thanks for explaining that! I didn't realize that you could manipulate live targets as well, because that was all under the effects on the undead.
