I see. I think our party is a little weak on the melee front, so we will need to strategize around that...

Ogon Magehunter |

Well get me out of the ice and we'll see what I can do to help with that! If nothing else large size, heavy armor and flaming weapons should ensure I become the number 1 target in most situations! :D

GM Axolotl |

What, you mean certain denizens of Irrisen target flame-users? No, that isn't written into any parts of the AP. Not a bit, no sirree.

Ogon Magehunter |

I have no idea where I'd get such an idea. It's not as if the character's entire history is predicated on such an idea afterall...

Dezső |

I am traveling through the weekend. I hope to be able to check on a daily basis but if there is any need to bot me feel free.

GM Axolotl |

My apologies, folks--I was away from computers today most of the day, pulling cables around. I'll get a post up tomorrow!

GM Axolotl |

Hm, you guys are in a pickle. I'm following the rules laid out for this creature--bunch of bad rolls, though.

Dezső |

I could really use more info about the set up. How can we get Orik down? Can the creature reach Orik in the suspended position? If not, then Dez's best plan may be to try to delay.

Orik Rostov |

I also would have a few questions for you Axolotl. Maybe we can puzzle out a solution:
1) Does someone have alchemical grease? If not, is there greasy substance available in the dining room that we could use?
2) Did you ever set a CMB for the character that tied up Orik? The DC for Orik to escape would be 20+CMB of the offender (Orik has a natural +3 to his CMB check to escape, plus any value from any grease).
3) Could one of the nauseated PCs wake up Ogon? We don't know how you were going to handle that.

GM Axolotl |

So--
Orik's chain is pretty breakable* as well; one PC yanking on the chain could bring it down (I'm going to apply handwavium here) as a standard action. The chain is wrapped around his hands, but once it's released, he's released. The guards don't tie up people with the idea that they'll be chained for long--they are usually chewed up by the mandragora soon enough.
*--I mean, detachable from the ceiling. These chains are just fastened into ice and need to be re-magicked from time to time. Downfalls of ice construction.
The creature can reach Orik. It has long grasping vine-fingers.
I'm not sure if anyone has grease; there wouldn't be enough from the dining hall.
That CMB would be +2, so 22 for Orik to just slip out.
Ogon is down the hall, so it would take a nauseated character a few moves to get there and then some sort of interaction with a stasis-statue. I have an idea who will be awakening Ogon.
Yrja - oh gosh, I wish. :D
If you can get everyone out, you can just close the door and bar it, of course. Pickle pickle pickle!

Dezső |

Thanks. And can Dez just run up and reach the chain or is there some climbing involved (not Dez's strong suit)?

Dezső |

Good. Can I post an action for Dez? Do we need to roll initiative or does Dez go first because he went first in the round in which he shot the bow and the plant monster broke free and howled? If I don't hear to the contrary, I'll post an action in a little bit...

GM Axolotl |

No need to roll initiative. It's just party, then monster, and back again, since I bent rules and let mandragora scream on y'all. I mean, unless someone really wants to show how fast in the initiative order they are. :D

Orik Rostov |

So sorry guys for boffing my roll. Does anyone have a strategy that might work?
Possibilities:
1) Bull rush the mandragora with the doors to force it back in? Might provoke an AoO and might not work anyway. Axolotl could adjucate that the cover from the could prevent the AoO.
2) Attack while fighting defensively? Would push up Orik's AC to 18 if Orik drops his enlarge.
3) Full defense? Would push the AC to 20 if Orik drops enlarge.
Let me know what you guys think or if you have another idea.

Dezső |

Stand back and let the pissed off flaming hobgoblin kill it?
But, yeah, I think we fight and try to flank it. Not too many rounds of nausea left.

Dezső |

Starting tomorrow I am going to be traveling for almost two weeks, with no internet most of the time. Bot me as necessary!

GM Axolotl |

Will do, Dez!
Hey Ogon, can you move your icon on the map? I'll allow the attack; the mandragora will probably attack you instead of Nadya, which is fine (right? :D) If you can't move it lemme know.

Ogon Magehunter |

Moved. And no problem regarding the attack - its what I'm here for! :)

GM Axolotl |

Soak it upppp! Thanks! I rely on the map to keep my mind from flying out of my ears, or something.

GM Axolotl |

I need to bot Dez (I think he's back) and Nadya...sorry, the 4th kind of bungled up my plans!

GM Axolotl |

I'm so sorry--give me another half a day. Having some elder care issues. I hate neglecting my very own game, but you'd be surprised how some life and emotions can slow down a GM. :( I'll be back in the saddle this afternoon.

Orik Rostov |

Just FYI, I’m asking permission to spend the minute attuning you all to my Varisian pilgrim abilities. If everyone agrees, we can have that set up before the next fight. Axolotl recommended I ask, but I don't want to monopolize the gameplay thread.
You may have noticed that I can be a very active poster. I don't want to have that turn into annoying everyone by being a chatterbox.

GM Axolotl |

"On the second floor, also some sculptures that guard the mirrored hall and the teleporter. Again there are passwords. They will not attack if you have the password."
Unfortunately, Ogon's flame was perceived as an attack. And here we go! :D

Dezső |

I'm not sure what the Dez knows, but I don't think we can defeat two nymphs. Maybe we can still give them the password?

GM Axolotl |

I'll be out backpacking from Thursday to Sunday. Please feel free to bot me in my absence by auto-killing all the monsters, reading spoilers, and obtaining free loot. :P
I'm looking forward to finishing up the Pale Tower--that will be the end of this module! Do people say module any more? I am old. :D

Ogon Magehunter |

Ogon loots all the bodies and finds a suit of +9 Plate Armor, which he wears with great pride!
The Witch in the tower seems him coming, realises that they cannot defeat his righteous might and falls down dead at his feet!
All hail Ogon!
Botting the GM is fun! :D

Ogon Magehunter |

Ogon finds his armor can make popcorn and settles in with snacks to enjoy the fanservice.

Dezső |

Nice, everyone! I'll just add that on the other side of the door there is a friendly wizard who offers to make Dez's aldori dueling sword magical, keen, and agile!
I myself will be traveling for a couple weeks come Saturday. I should have some internet access but may be more irregular in my posting. Feel free to bot.

Ogon Magehunter |

Orik is a simple man who just wants his ox and his stuff back, so he finds all of it! Hah!
Unfortunately, now there is a musk ox in the tower.
Orik's intelligence is also reduced by 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7 points as he becomes a really 'simple' man...

Ogon Magehunter |

Hey Everyone, I'm away for the next twelve days in Florida - going to Disney World for the first time!
I won't be able to check my games while I'm away so I'm on pause until the 10th (or possibly the 11th if I'm too jet-lagged!).
Please feel free to bot me as the situation requires! :)

GM Axolotl |

Paizo is acting up for me. I can't get to the end of threads unless I post.
Speaking of, I am posting now--I will be out Friday to Sunday backpacking. (and also next weekend after that.) I'll get a post up today!
