This gaming group is a good one. You all mean a lot to me, and we're going to be spending a few years online wandering various frozen landscapes. Dez is actually an old, dear friend from college (roomie, even), and got me into cool music when I was a clueless undergrad, and convinced me to try Pathfinder, so I owe him a lot. He was also exposed to my first attempt at GMing an entirely novel homebrew game set in the 'real world'.
The holidays will probably be spotty for everyone, but I'm around. Hey, one day we should all meet in person, as four or five of us are in CA and six are in the USA. :)

Yrja, do you remember how we calculate the bonus for spellcraft versus evil casters? You have +10 and I have +6. The trait gives +1, so I'm trying to figure out where all the other bonus comes from.
My HeroLab says 2 ranks + 3 class skill + 4 INT modifier for Spellcraft in general. The +9 becomes +10 when you add in the trait, as far as I understand. Not sure why you have +6 against evil casters.

Big Creatures and Cover
Any creature with a space larger than 5 feet (1 square) determines cover against melee attacks slightly differently than smaller creatures do. Such a creature can choose any square that it occupies to determine if an opponent has cover against its melee attacks. Similarly, when making a melee attack against such a creature, you can pick any of the squares it occupies to determine if it has cover against you.
That's the relevant rule you might be thinking of judging cover when large critters are in play. That's not applicable though for the penalty of just 'firing into combat' - a creature needs to be Huge before the size starts mattering to ranged penalties.
If you shoot or throw a ranged weapon at a target engaged in melee with a friendly character, you take a –4 penalty on your attack roll. Two characters are engaged in melee if they are enemies of each other and either threatens the other. (An unconscious or otherwise immobilized character is not considered engaged unless he is actually being attacked.)If your target (or the part of your target you’re aiming at, if it’s a big target) is at least 10 feet away from the nearest friendly character, you can avoid the –4 penalty, even if the creature you’re aiming at is engaged in melee with a friendly character.
If your target is two size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with, this penalty is reduced to –2. There is no penalty for firing at a creature that is three size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with.
TL;DR: Short version: yes, we have the -4 (unless you have Precise Shot).

Does Braegan want to use Dezső's crossbow? He may not have a great chance of success, but it would give him something to do. Crossbows are simple weapons Braegan can use. Dez is using Chiquq's bow since she is using the better one we found, so he doesn't need the crossbow.

Alright, posting rate update.
This weekend is Memorial Day weekend in the States, so my posting may be spotty to non-existent (family in town). Next week will be mostly normal, but then me and my little family are heading to Colorado for a long weekend next Friday (so I'll be out from between 6/2 until 6/6).
