Since you failed to use it, can you try again or is it discharged? I haven't used scrolls much...
I believe that I successfully deciphered it and made the appropriate caster level check to cast the spell. Unfortunately my next caster level check was against the DC of 10+ the curse’s level, and I was able to remove curses up to caster level 1. It is doubtful that his curse is that weak. I don’t think we get to do it again, so we’ll have to get another scroll. That said, at level 5 if Yrja learns remove curse, she can try for free every day until it is removed. Alternatively, we can pay a cleric that is level 5 to do so, though they might be reluctant to remove the curse of a witch while in irrisen.
My only consolation is that my success or failure was truly random, and there was essentially no way for me to improve the likelihood at this level. All of us are equally likely and unlikely to successfully remove the curse, so we all would have had the same odds!
Actually I think I made a small mistake, too. The minimum caster level for the spell remove curse is 5, so I use the caster level of the scroll for checks related to the scroll itself. That means I actually got a 12 (unless the scroll had a higher written caster level).

GM Axolotl |

The scroll was at caster level 5. So, that means you got a 12, and didn't remove the curse. :( And yes, this does discharge the spell, as Orik made the first caster level check, successfully casting the spell.
And yeah, come to think of it, can you even use Guidance to help the caster level of a scroll? Maybe...I guess it's any roll...

Orik Rostov |

Other things which could help if we want to try again. We would have to buy this, along with another scroll, and Axolotl has to decide what stacks and if it can be used with a scroll. It also may not be obtainable in irrisen. I do not think guidance works, though, as a caster level check is not an attack roll, skill check, or saving throw.
Source
Bloody mandrake - free action for a +1 untyped bonus to caster levels when removing afflictions
Anointing oil - changes casting time for harmless touch divine spell to full-round action but increases caster level by 1 (untyped bonus).
Cold iron alchemical power component - +1 to caster level check when casting abjuration spells, may not be usable with scrolls, appears to stack.
Dream lichen also allows a reroll on a save vs curse, too.
Blech, we should’ve looked it up ahead of time. Let us know if these will work and we can grab another scroll and try again!

GM Axolotl |

I don't want to give things away, but well designed Adventure Paths generally have solutions for the problems thrown at characters. -eyebrow waggle-

Orik Rostov |

Well then, let’s go! I’ll do some more fiddling with the sheet to get weight and calculate our liquid cash, tonight. Otherwise we can just move on in gameplay if you’d like.

Orik Rostov |

So I added a bit on the right that shows a share per person, minus whatever they claim. If we choose to switch any items from PARTY to anything else, the value goes up a bit. Ogon and Orik and I have less of the share because we came in later and started with a bit.
I think we should flag all healing consumables we claim as party items, so it doesn't count toward your share. The best way to do it is just write if you want to carry it in a column on the right.
I also funneled 10% of our theoretical liquid treasure beforehand as party funds, which totals: 2319 gp (we can buy wands, new scrolls etc.)
I had to guess the total treasure weight based on standards (weight of a silver bar!) that I looked up or guessed. The total weight looks to be about 785 lbs, which we can struggle to get out of the tower even using the bag of holding. Once we find Sasha we will be okay, though.
Chiquq, I would recommend you consider not claiming that spear of manhunting. It cuts into your gold a lot and you may not want to actually use it (based on what you told us).

Yeah, my plan was always to sell it as soon as we hit a sell point if a melee character didn't want it. Ogon has his built in weapons as it were; you don't personally seem to want it, so we can sell.
Sorry I've still been so quiet. Trying to get a commission done for someone for the holidays/lots of general hecticness. Hope to be back on track soon.

Orik Rostov |

Did you agree with my weight calculations? I'm done with gear for myself, claiming very little, just the greatsword.
I set up some the specifics about who's carrying what, in the right column, and then summed it. Hopefully that works. I don't think anyone is any more burdened than they would be normally with their armor. Note that I specifically put 250 lbs of silver into the bag of holding (if it's cursed and eats one, though, I won't put any more in!).

GM Axolotl |

If anyone's interested in trying a Fate Core game (short run, just 30 days), it's over here:
Faaate Coooore, the game everyone says they want to play, but don't play!

Orik Rostov |

Checking in to see if there’s more you want us to do. I’m happy to oblige everyone if they’re busy. I always have a little time for party management stuff, but I haven’t gotten a definitive answer about if you need more done!

GM Axolotl |

Sorry, yeah, I was hoping y'all could update your equipment lists, but let's just throw it into gear, eh? If you don't have it on your sheet when battle starts, it's on a mule or ox! Muahahahahahahah! Ha. Heh. Ok, let's do this. ;)

GM Axolotl |

Happy New Year, all! I am setting up a new room at work, but I'll be able to continue with a save or two for the gathered baddies tomorrow. :)

Orik Rostov |

Based on my weight calculations and the fact that we carried a lot of the heaviest stuff in the bag of holding, we could have gotten most/all of the stuff out in one trip I think. We could give them each some silver bars. They weight a lot per bar that we carry - might be the worst weight/value ratio. I am happy to give away a number of these to grease the wheels.

Orik Rostov |

If you’d like, I can calculate the value of the stuff from the tower and treat these guards as a party member for the purposes of allocating a “share” from the tower’s spoils.
Also, please please tell me if I’m running away with the RP or talking too much in game, I’m just trying to stay engaged but I don’t want anyone to feel like I’m monopolizing the conversations.

Ogon Magehunter |

Ogon doesn't talk much - he lets fire do it for him. So probably better than Orik talks for the both of them! :D
At least Ogon rolls 20s on Intimidate checks when its helpful! :)

Orik Rostov |

Looking at it now, maybe it'd just be easier to give them half the silver bars (or all)? Seems fair, and I don't want to carry it around, and my back of the envelope calculation is that it's about half of what a "share" would be if we were to consider them as just another "party member".

Ogon Magehunter |

Fine by me :) offload the heavy (and not too valuable) in one fell swoop!

Orik Rostov |

I was trying to figure out why a bunch of LG and NG people wouldn't just try to give some money to these poor rando soldiers but I couldn't justify it.
I'll do some RP telling them to use it on their communities if they agree though. Hah that'll teach em!

Dezső |

Seems easy to justify for me -- we need the resources to fight the white witches. These soldiers just want to line their pockets. It isn't as if they are starving.

Orik Rostov |

Yeah, I know. he doesn’t mind getting into a fight, but I don’t think Orik would start one if there was a peaceful resolution is all.
Want to offer less? I was basing our offer on Nadya vouching for her. Everyone should be in agreement before we hand over the treasure.

Dezső |

I wouldn't offer more than half the silver bars (which would be 25), but I don't have a strong opinion on whether half is too much... I agree that telling them to spend whatever we give them on the community is a good idea.

GM Axolotl |

Provisions discussion!
If possible: a CLW wand (750 gp), a scroll of nature's paths for Yrja to use (25 gp), a larger sleigh with a harness for Sasha (she should be strong enough) (100 gp), A bunch of feed for her (5 cp each, so 5 more, for 2.5 silver), snowshoes for anyone who doesn't have them (5 gp each), 6 pitons (6 sp), Maybe 'pathfinder chronicles, volume 27' (150 gp). I doubt some of this stuff is available!
You've already determined that there's a scroll of Nature's Paths. It will be, unfortunately, at Katrina and Emil's, but some sword rattling should intimidate them..
Unfortunately, no CLW wands are available (it exceeds the base value for Waldsby).
Some close reading about Nadya reveals that she has dogsleds. Sasha can pull one of those. The other one can handle Nadya and one dog team (let's assume the rest went to other people in her trading party) and a fair amount of supplies. Nadya and the dogs will have to hunt for food along the way, but that's fine.
There's plenty of cold weather gear. feed. and the pitons at Verana's Sundries, and Nadya has her own snowshoes of northern pursuit.

Ogon Magehunter |

Ogon can help with Katrina and Emil!
He doesnt need snow shoes either - although he will sink a lot! :D

Orik Rostov |

Dogsleds are fine with me, just wanted to get another sled for everyone so we can make good time.
Too bad 'bout CLW - looks like we're roughing it until Whitethrone!
Note: Orik always sleeps in his armor, because he can, because of the endurance feat. Hah!

GM Axolotl |

Verana's Sundries contains the following that might be useful to you:
Scroll of Goodberry
Scroll of CLW (only 1)
Belt of Mighty Constitution +2

Ogon Magehunter |

I can has Belt of Con?!?!?!?! Please? :)
I'll trade back the Am Nat Arm if need be. But Con is my key stat - this matters! (And I'm still cursed :( this would help)

Orik Rostov |

I will loan you 2000, and we can retrieve 1000 from the group money if someone else can chip in a loan of 1000. I’d loan more but I need to make purchases in Whitethrone, and we can’t empty out the group money as we have to operate as if we need another remove curse and can get a clw wand in whitethrone.
I don’t think you should have to give up the amulet. Just get me and the group back next time. It’d be bad for your cleric to fall too far behind on WBL. ;)

Ogon Magehunter |

Looking at the loot sheet I'm still due 2450 or so in wealth, so I only need a 1550 loan :) If everyone can throw in a few hundred or I can core out some of the group wealth I can promise to pay you back by taking huge amounts of HP damage on your behalf...
1GP per HP lost defending other party members? :)

Orik Rostov |

Ahh, of course. I’m dumb. I’ll just loan you the 1550. Us monsters gotta stick together.
Oops, I forgot to update our sheet before for having lost the 25 bars due to bribing. I fixed it and will loan you the new amount you need.

Ogon Magehunter |

and I was waiting for Ogon to jump up and down like a...like a burning hobgoblin?
*bounce bounce bounce bounce*
Done. Does that get me a discount? :)
@Orik: Kinets are actually really gear light (never need weapons etc) so I should be able to make it up to you soon.
Now we just have to ditch that curse and I'll be happy!

GM Axolotl |

Question for the players: there is a sidebar within this adventure discussing possible romantic interests for characters. One NPC you meet has romance in mind (not Nadya. Unless someone is gonna make a move on her.)
Let me know if you are opposed to having your character be the object of an NPC's affection. I will not put any player in an uncomfortable situation (except, of course, in combat, traps, moral grey areas with tragic villains, etc)...ahem, I won't put anyone in an uncomfortable romantic situation. GM's honor, hope to be trampled by a Tarrasque.
Conversely, if anyone does want to make eyes at an NPC, I am not opposed. I'll play the NPC realistically--e.g. right now Nadya is in survival mode and protecting her sons, having lost her daughter, so making courting our fair Irriseni guide right now will have her react accordingly. :)
Thanks! And huh, this just made me wonder about heteronormative assumptions for the AP and for characters.

Ogon Magehunter |

The assumption (by word of creators) is that all NPC's should be considered bi. Keeps options open. :) I'd dig out the link but it would take ages and I saw it years ago.
I'm not opposed, although Ogon's perhaps not the most likely target. He has Ursa in his background, but moving on from her would be just as good story-fodder as finding her again (especially given that she'll be 20 yrs older and him not) so I'm game if it makes sense! :)
I love the idea (and awkwardness) of Ogon/Yrja, but he'd never initiate so it would have to be her and I don't think she's interested or got the confidence?

Dezső |

Dezső is also fine with it, although like Ogon perhaps not the likeliest target based on appearances. For what its worth, he's heterosexual, and pretty inexperienced with the romantic side of life. Smart to give people a chance to indicate if they don't want that RP direction for their characters.

GM Axolotl |

Oh, I wasn't suggesting intra-party stuff--that's totalllly between players and please, all, err on the side of caution. :)
You're right, Ogon, I forgot that--all NPCs are bi/omni/pan etc as befits the story.
There's a joke in here somewhere about Dez and I being college roommates (true story :D )
