Cuàn |

@Cuan: Which dinosaur do you want?
I actually have several options in mind, some already established in Eberron, some not. I'll add the Eberron name in parenthesis if they already have one or suggest one if they don't.
Established:
Allosaurus (Bladetooth), B2
Ankylosaurus (Hammertail), B1
Not established:
Diplodocus (Whiptail), B4
Ceratosaurus (Hornhunter), B5
Therizinosaurus (Scytheclaw), B5
Starting level 7 I'd add the Stegosaurus as it'll grow large then. Before then I don't think you could fit even a small character between the plates on it's back in a decent manner.

Tavick Tarker |

1. I suppose it depends on the nature of the campaign. Admittedly, I was looking for feats for quite some time and more or less "settled" on the Spell Focus chain since mind thrust and detect thoughts are both Divination spells. That and his psionic mentor is a seer, so I figured it would be fitting.
That being said, I wouldn't want to play a character that routinely sucks the mystery out of the mystery. I'll happily swap out the Spell Focus feats if you think that I'm running the risk of doing so. I definitely see detect thoughts and mind thrust as staples of the character concept (and one is built into the class and unavoidable).
2. In combat, I see Tavick having a Jean-Grey sort of vibe: lots of mind-affecting spells as well as force/telekinesis spells. Looking at the psychic spell list, they definitely aren't wizards, but the Abomination discipline will at least net me black tentacles. His strength will likely be at disabling single targets and using spells like haste and slow to turn the tide of battle.
Out of combat, Tavick specializes in working with people. His skill deal mostly with social interaction (Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, Sense Motive), so he could definitely be something of a party face. He's more interested in motives than methods, which means that there are definitely deficiencies in crime scene investigation that other characters would (hopefully) shore up. He doesn't have much in the way of Knowledge skills, so he defers to the expertise of others and if no one in the group knows anything about the matter at hand, Tavick is unafraid to seek out someone who does.
Also, did either of the proposed traits work?

Dreaming Warforged |

Here is my application: Bojd d'Tharashk, a psychic detective with the Least Mark of Finding. From his background, I think he could be tied with either the Spy trait, or the Book Worm trait.

GM Aest |

Kassandara seems like a cool mystery character. Do you have any more information on her?
I like the connection to the Day of Mourning and your voices. It's an interesting take on the psychic powers.
Finally, what role do you see Bjod playing in the party, both in and out of combat?
@Cuan: I'll allow it, just be aware that there may be times when you might not have access to it.
@Tavick: I think they're both reasonably balanced and thematic, given your character's background.
@Farrier: I'm sorry to see you go.

Dreaming Warforged |

Hi GM, Kassandara... I thought I'd leave this open for you to play with. I wanted to add a few NPCs too, but I wanted the sheet up so you could have a look.
Here are some further connections: Bojd has a daughter, Sabine, and an ex-wife, Lydja. He's had a few very short lived relationships, as he's good with words, but not so much with everything else about a relationship. The only one that stuck around long enough to know the real Bojd (then run away and get a job with House Deneith) was Lydja. That was before the Mark appeared. They both still live in Sharn, but Bojd rarely get in touch with them anymore, except when he gets miserably drunk, or on Sabine's birthday.
As for the mechanics...
Out of combat, I see Bojd as an intelligence gatherer and an informant network builder.
In combat, I think he can work as a decent support melee, while providing psychic support either as buffer, debuffer, or terrain control, depending on his spell selection. I guess that will depend on who else is in the business.

Gauntlet of Sharn |

GM Aest, here is my update to Gauntlet's history. Let me know what you think, or if you need more from me on this.
He arrived on the battlefield, ready to do his part to win the war...Then peace descended like a hammer on Khorvaire, and he was free to suddenly find his own way in life. But what was life if not killing the enemy? He was lost. Following a lot of the disenfranchised soldiers from the war he ended up in Sharn: From fighting monsters and mock battles to body guarding soft-skins to make ends meet, and in the end desperately trying to find a purpose in his life.
Unlike others who fought in the war, Gauntlet has no war horror stories, but he often dreams of the Cannith that wanted to dissect him may still want to do so. In that regard Gauntlet has gone out of his way to remain out of touch of anybody he knew prior and during the war and fearful of making new friends. The one exception is an old one-legged former Brelish army mule-skinner named Farley McPheer, or Micky "P" as everyone calls him. Mickey acts as Gauntlet's part-time manager and occasional job broker. Gauntlet trusts him becasue Mickey vehemently hates all Dragon-marked houses for his own reasons, claiming they are all in "cahoots" with each other to overthrow Breland's rightful government.
It is at this point in his life that Gauntlet gets an unusual suggestion from one of his bodyguard clients that he would make a good Inquisitive. A blonde and pale-skinned half-elf Diva who goes by the moniker "Ms Sensuous," was ecstatic after Gauntlet found and rescued her lost pet chameleon-cat 'Poopsey' from a gang of young goblins who had managed to trap it and were preparing to stew the furry beast.(Note: a chameleon cat is a rare pet bred by house Vadalis for the rich elite of Sharn, and have the ability to change color to match their owner's clothing.) The Diva was a trusted client, and pays well for Gauntlet's services, but has yet to need actual protection beyond a few overzealous fans. However, when she suggested he look into Inquisitive work as career, it seemed to strike a cord within Gauntlet. He enjoyed a challenge, both to his mind and muscles, and Inquisitve work was much more satisfying than fighting beasts in a ring for mere profit. Turning to Micky, he asked his oldest friend about the possibilities of private inquisitive work.
"You know son, there is this old inquisitive office I used to do some work with, and I just heard they are looking to kick off the agency anew for some reason. Let me send a messenger and see if they might be interested in some fresh blood..."
Campaign Trait: The Machine (Anomaly)
As unusual as the warforged are, you are even more so. Your unusually skewed nature is off-putting and causes normal animals to react badly to you (Reduce the initial reactions of domesticated and wild animals by one step.) However, your machine-like memory and logical thought processes improve your tactical decision making and can often help with remembering minor facts and esoteric information. You gain a +1 to initiative (all the time) and +2 to any Knowledge Skill check once/per day.
Is there anything else you need to make a decision? I feel like I'm forgetting something.

Dreaming Warforged |

I've added a section to Bojd's sheet.
CONNECTIONS
Bojd has a daughter, Sabine, and an ex-wife, Lydja.
Bojd has kept good relations with Morgrave professors. One in particular, Doctor Fergen Duvol, a specialist of pre-Galifaran artefacts, has kept tabs on him, while Doctor Semx Orvignol, an artifex, has had nothing but complaints about Bojd and his lack of 'proper respect.'
Also of note, Bojd has had a tumultuous affair lasting a full year with a Tharashk enforcer named Rakel who enjoyed his 'lack of martial spirit as a nice change...' Needless to say, Bojd did not enjoy the depiction.
These days, Bojd stays at the gutted hotel of a former Cyran noblewoman named Kabryel ir'Sulvo. Lady Sulvo lost her husband with the fall of Cyre and dilapidates his estate in trying to maintain Cyre's lost splendour. Bojd has found himself attracted to her spiral of destruction in an echo of his own struggles.

Vincent Fleming |

I really enjoyed the flavor of Eberron a while back and would be quite happy to reread some of the material and the like to get back into the swing of things.
That said forgive me if this was all made abundantly clear elsewhere and I'm just blind and didn't see such things answered...Shifters are they based on This site or are they using the primer from paizo Blood of the Moon?
I wouldn't mind making one of them that is a Razorclaw if it's the first with Child of the Pits alternative Trait. Or perhaps a Were-croc if it's from the Blood of the Moon primer. I have an idea for a Flesh-Eater Barbarian that I think would be fun. A Shifter child that had been captured in his youth alive from his tribe and used by the bad guys of the Last War as entertainment forcing him to fight against all manner of beast for their entertainment. He would have been conscripted when the good guys of the Last War destroyed the encampment and went on to become a War Hero in his own right trying to 'earn' his freedom as it were.
Does this sound interesting? While he wouldn't be a cannible per say, he knows what it's like to starve and would have had to eat said flesh at the hands of the evil forces before for their sick pleasure/amusement and has learned that even in such a twisted place he can learn from and harness power.
The archetype comes from the Occult Adventures and can be found here Flesh Eater if you'd like to take a peak. It's a character I've toyed with the idea of playing many a time but the campaigns I've thrown him in all seem to peter out before he is made true. Original thought was that of a Nagaji (This was of course before this particular archetype was around)

Vincent Fleming |

Gothca, let me know on that I was assuming there might be a bit more variance on the whole enemy scale other then primarily Humanoid. Hmm Hmm. Hmmmmmmm... I don't recall to my knowledge any Barbarian tribes being known to eat the heart of their enemy kind of thing in Eberron but then again I don't recall really any of the various realms/editions every really delving into that manner at all perhaps just not choosing to go into detail on account of how some people may feel about the aspect and or just trying to get GMs as much creative license as possible.
If it is not do-able I can of course come up with another. It was just an idea that I had to kick around that is uncommon and would provide for a very different roleplay challenge.
Edit: PS...I would try to limit it's usage and flavor it as a type of tribal tradition/religious experience akin to the Iroquois, Nootka, or the Anasazi Tribes...I would say the Aztecs but few warriors ate hearts, they were mostly sacrificed to the Sun God.

It definitely helps recruitment threads if people see recent activity.
So here's my way of selling this recruitment for Aest. I'm in Aest's Kingmaker game. He's a responsive GM who gives you great challenges and rewards deep roleplay. He keeps the plot moving and his NPCs have depth and nuance beyond cookie cutter. In Kingmaker, he's made every PC shine.
Now, as I'm imagining that same skill set being used in the mystery genre... I feel a sense of thrill and anticipation. With the right party of PCs, this game could be absolutely magical.
People, if you're not applying, you're missing out.

Even if there are no further submissions, there are at least 4 finished submissions. I think that after Saturday the boards will pick up steam again and we will see actual submissions from those who expressed interest above. The games I run (5) and play in (20) have all been slow this week.

Lady Ladile |

^ Yes, I imagine some of the dots of interest will reappear and begin working on characters this weekend or early next week. As for myself I've been watching the thread and trying really really hard to not fail my will save and start working on something...
I'll also second Hmm's endorsement; I lurk-read Aest's Kingmaker game and it's been fantastic. Definitely a good GM to play with!

Fighting Chicken |

Still here as well. My brawler is about half-way finished and I hope to have him complete by the end of the weekend.
One more question, GM Aest - I'd like to make sure I'm understanding the character creation guidelines correctly:
In cases where there is mechanical conflict between the PF Eberron conversion and 3.5, we are to use the PF Eberron conversion? I ask because the shifter's shifting power is quite different in execution.
3.5: Duration of the shift is 3 + con modifier rounds. Shifter feats add to duration at 1 round per feat, and for every two feats, the shifter can shift one more time/day.
PF Eberron conversion: Duration of the shift is 2 x character level rounds. Shifting is 1 time/day, but there is a feat (Incremental shifting) that allows for using shifting in 1-round increments.
Prerequisite: Shifter, at least 1 other Shifter feat
Benefit: You may use your shifting ability in 1-round increments that do not have to be consecutive. Activating and deactivating the ability is still the same kind of action.
Normal: Shifters can only use their shifting ability once per day and the entire duration is used in that one shifting.
Special: Unlike other shifter feats, this feat does not increase the duration of your shifting.

Definitely still interested. This week is just the worst for me, time-wise (all the holiday stuff everyone else has, plus my anniversary and my older kid's birthday, so y'know, full dance card).
My submission will be a drow from Xendrik, and I think he'd figure a quick approach to establishing one's self in a strange land would be to give a stranger a hand. Anyone think their character might have been in a back-alley fight where they received help from a tall dark stranger? :-)
DM, one of the ideas I'm kicking around is a rogue. Would an acceptable use of the bonus feat be Extra Rogue Talent, to pick up Coax Information?

Pierce - Agent of the Sovereign |

Pierce would absolutely find himself in such a situation.
The fact that you're Drow would not bother him. To Pierce you would be just another Breather :-)

Selmy |

Xynen here, submitting the concept for my Shifter Brawler. The last few weeks have been a bit rough (as you know) so the concept isn't as fleshed out as I would like, but this is what I have so far. Any input you have to refine it would be great, I'm till considering traits that would be good for the The Machine trait.
Note: The guard dog is meant as flavor, not as an animal companion which is why I didn't include any stats. I have a story for him too but didnt have time to add it in just yet. Will update it sometime tomorrow but any notes you have in the meantime would be awesome.

Tenro |

I present Beren Ebinoor, Human Artificer for your campaign.
Integral to my character concept is the idea that he has a prosthetic limb, and in the future will become fascinated with the idea of making it better, more magical, and over time replace other parts of his body until he becomes more machine (warforged) than man. As that transformation slowly takes place, I am sure people will have varying responses to it ranging from intrigue to possible disgust or almost certainly unease. Below are some third-party rules on prosthesis and loss of limb, in case you didn't have any in mind already.
On that note, and in regard to your campaign traits, I was thinking something to signify his return from the front lines with a modest severance package and a fake arm. Under the rules presented above, there is a Clockwork Arm for 500gp, that is just over half of the amount of gold that the Rich Parents trait provides. The other half of this trait could be +1 to a skill, perhaps Heal to represent the need to take care of the attachment to the arm.

GM Aest |

Okay, back from skiing. From the top!
@Vincent Fleming: Go for it. I've got some ideas for diversifying things a bit, so there should be other stuff to eat.
@Hmm and Lady Lalile: Thanks for the kind words!
@Storyteller Shadow: Thanks for that. I've got a list but hadn't posted it yet.
@Monkeygod: I'm having a hard time finding the faction rules. Do you have a page number or link?
@Fighting Chicken: I'll be using the conversion.
@Redblade: That'd be a good use of the bonus feat.
@Selmy and Tenro: I'll review your submissions and deliver feedback soon*.

GM Aest |

Your list of NPCs in pretty impressive in terms of number, and I most likely won't use them all if you're selected. I'm glad there's associated classes for each, but I'd like to know a bit more about their personalities. Maybe a couple of words for two or three (glum, giggly, etc.)?
I appreciate the part about throwing fights quite a bit. I submitted an arena fighter to a Kingmaker game (long story), and she did the same thing.
Does your character have anything against Warforged? I ask because you mention a bias against Kalashtar, but even though he spent a while fighting Warforged, there's no biases visible. Maybe professional respect?
Finally, what role do you see Selmy playing in the party, both in and out of combat?
I approve of your NPC list. It's got the elements I'd hope for.
Thanks for providing an appearance and personality.
RE Prosthetics: I'm a bit iffy on allowing 3PP without review. Are you just looking for the prosthetic limb, or is there more from that book you're after? The limb doesn't give you any real advantages, since you're not going after a high Str score from what I see, so I have no problem with that, but I don't have that book and don't want to review more 3PP if I can help it.
Finally, what role do you see Beren playing in the party, both in and out of combat?
@Monkeygod: I'll use those faction rules. It should be noted that any faction can be an enemy one day, a best friend the next, and a begrudging ally the day after that. Just be aware.

Tenro |

** spoiler omitted **
The limb will, in the beginning, serve as a conversation piece of sorts, though one he wouldn't be overly gregarious about due to its origin. But as time passes and he does more, he will be happy to speak about his "project" and people will probably not like to hear about it all that much, since it is a bit freaky.
Regarding the 3pp, I have only looked at the page of the consequences for loss of limb (for in case my limb gets broken or something) and the list of prostheses (I don't have the actual book, i just go off the PFSRD). Aside from the initial clockwork arm, I was planning on moving up to the Mighty Arm necessary for the Renegade Mastermaker prestige class (really, i was only looking at the 3pp because it offers an option for prosthesis that is affordable to lower-level characters, since the Mighty Arm is basically a magic weapon). This will signify his general interest in magical things, which then he focuses inward once his project takes off. He will still be able to perform the functions of an artificer largely, but will have to devote effort to them (in the terms of using infusions vice class abilities and spending feats vice getting the feats for free) since his focus was diverted to turning himself into a warforged.
Regarding role in the party, he will be able to buff via infusions as well as repair any warforged folks after the fight, or repair items. In combat he will likely have a crossbow for ranged attacks and he will have his slam attack for if people get close. Later when he gets a little more resilient, he might wade into melee a little more and be a good flanking buddy for any rogue or martial character we might have. In terms of investigations, I plan on him mostly identifying magical things or auras, being able to dispel things needing dispelled, and as we get into the hang of investigations, making items that could help us in that regard.
I took Skill Focus: Heal for my bonus campaign feat, but if you are using the Investigations rules, i could change it to Investigate [General] if you like.

![]() |

The list of NPC's is more there for me so, if chosen, I have a consistent group of individuals to pull from when roleplaying. I'll add some personalities and such later today when I have the opportunity.
Because Selmy worked with at least one Warforged he's not as biased against them as one might expect, but he is much less intimidated by them since the entirety of his war time career was spent destroying them. He looks at them as less indestructible than their reputation.
As far as out of combat, I forgot to list it on the profile but I have him taken Skill Focus for his bonus feat: Disable Device, and I've taken a few ranks in stealth and escape artist to represent his history running the streets of sharn, although I'm considering replacing that with the additional traits feat to expand on his class skills. I picture him being very perceptive (sense motive and perception) with a decent knowledge of how the seedier elements on Sharn work (K. Local) to help supplement the parties knowledge and give them an edge when working with the less refined areas of the city, etc.
In combat he's very much battlefield control. Grappling, Tripping, etc. Melee focused.

Gauntlet of Sharn |

Below are some third-party rules on prosthesis and loss of limb, in case you didn't have any in mind already.
I think there was a 3.5 prestige class for artificers that did the same thing... Here?

Monkeygod |

I might be changing my concept, as I noticed there's a fair amount of rougey-builds and I would prefer to stand out with both character and story.
Thinking about possibly going Swashbuckler, into Blade of Orien.
He would obviously be a marked member of House Orien, but I'm considering him having a half-elven brother who is a marked member of House Lyrandar and the two are working to improve relations between the feuding Houses.
Thoughts on this concept?
