Howdy!
I am starting recruitment for running a Pathfinder Society adventure, First steps 1: "In the Service of Lore" for level 1 (only). This will be an open recruitment accepting a table of four to six new players. If you have played other PFS scenarios, then it is the same but running as play-by-post rules. This adventure will lock in a new character for about 8 weeks if posting daily. Pre-generated PFS characters are also acceptable.
However, for players not familiar with PFS or posting here, I'll post a few guidelines.
- You need a legal PFS (Pathfinder Society) character. PFS information is here.
- Post your legal character. (Paizo People --> Aliases). Here is
Fendahl Silvermane for example.
- Be able to post about 1-2 times per day for 7-9 weeks
- I do not require your previous Chronicle Sheets. I assume you will be honest with me and your fellow players. If a question of an item or race comes up, I may ask to know where and how you got said item.
- Maps will be posted through google docs. Please make sure you can access this service if you sign up.
Recruitment will open now and will close once I have enough players to start.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Please post your Character's Level and Class for consideration.

New player here. (new as in never played before even a little bit) I'm very much interested. Off to read about all this society jazz. I'll be back with a character for you.
edit: ack. Sorry fellas, I know this is a pain but I'm having some difficulty here. I know how to roll a character but I'm not sure how to format it into the PFS thingamabob. Do I just fill all relevant fields and then put anything that doesn't have it's own field into special abilities or description or something? Anyone want to direct me to someone who'll hold my hand? (Yeah. reaaaally new player here.)

Now worries. We all have to start from the beginning...I just started a few months ago myself.
If you know how to create a new PFS character with point-buy and the rules posted in the guide found {here}
, then the only trick is to get the stats into the PbP profile.
I found this {post} to be helpful for when I was starting on PbP a few months back...

If you need a spot filled, I have a no-chronicle Crusader Cleric of Irori that isn't anything to write home about, but nevertheless is available.
I have played all 3 First Steps before (several months back, don't remember much), and that was the only character I've ever had make it to level 2. He died in a TPK, and now I'm down to all level 1s, though I have several involved in PbPs now. I've probably finished 8-10 games, and I'm in several more now.
Anyway, since I'm in several already and I mostly know my way around PFS, I'm happy to defer to anyone else. Just offering to complete a table if need be.

I started playing my first PbP PFS game at the beginning of November, but if by any chance you don't get enough completely new players, id love to get into another game. Will do the character anyway, just in case.
As for character concept, Im playing with the idea of making a Garundi spear and shield wielding human from the lower social strata of a Garundi community who joined the pathfinder society as a way to explore to gain fame and wealth with the hopes of one day finding a place where himself and others like him of his clan can call their own.
Still thinking of class, inclining for a fighter or a cleric.

Sounds like fun, and I need to get this itch for playing a game since I missed one recently off my back. Count me in!
I'll get a character worked up in a bit. Just as a note though, I'll probably do longer than normal posts just to make it so I don't have to worry as much about posting every day. I'll try, but no guarantees.

Ok looking like we are getting there....excellent submissions so far.
I will close out recruiting tomorrow night, and take 6 characters, with preference to the new players and then backfill with the experienced players with completed/posted characters. I plan to list the party roster and to start Monday night.

Here is the character for your consideration: Dahriakt Tolumeh.
Human figther, made it trident and shield instead of spear and shield because of mechanical reason (more damage over a shortspear, and a trident is part of the spears weapon families, and is a one-handed weapon).

Welcome Pedwiddle,
There is still room for a new player if you can get one posted. Otherwise I have 3 veteran players waiting to fill the last spot(s).
Here is what I am showing so far (unless I missed someone):

Thessel Dromad Halfling Bard 1. (Bokali)
Archmoon Laffir Saevan Elf Ranger 1
Dahriakt Tolumeh Human Fighter 1. (Aka Nius)
Thosar Seltenmus Elf Conjurer 1
Pedwiddle. Bard 1
Alternates (veterans - active in other campaigns)
Hawkwen Agricola
D-kal

To be fair here, I am not a new player in any way. So if there are some "new players" showing up, I have no objections of being relegated to reserves/veterans.
I did not play First Steps - In service to the lore previously, but I already have one other character in another PFS adventure. This is just for your consideration GM Aarvid, whatever you decide, I'll be fine.

OK reworked and registered this guy as a valid PFS character. I hope everything is according to the rules now.
One question though - is there any value/need to have Identify as a spell in PFS? I did not plan on having it prepared, but for now I have it in my spellbook - is it usable/needed at all in this kind of organized play?
GM Aarvid |
Ok, thanks Thosar. Looks ok at first glance. I will review more before tomorrow.
Regarding your question, I am not sure that identify is all that useful to prepare at first level. With so few spells at low levels, usually there is something better to take. Especially since you need a good spellcraft skill. Some magic items you can check by trying or using them or hire/ask some NPC to help.
So we should be ready to start with the above party tomorrow night. Still need a completed PFS-legal Bard sheet from Peddwiddle. Looks like one was started.
The rest of the party looks good. I will be building icons/tokens from your image on the board here, so get the one you want. I will use googledocs for combat maps etc.

A figure lay in a dark room on the floor offering morning prayers to his god. The figure moved effortlessly and quietly as it rose up from the floor. The young man started to get him self ready for what lay ahead. It didn’t matter where he was nor did it matter what he was about to do. He was ready to perform as instructed at the chance to avenge that which was taken from him. He slowly put his daggers in hidden holds in boots and cloak. His rapier and short sword were not hidded but situated on his back in easy reach to draw them quickly as needed. Not knowing what lay ahead, he also strapped a light mace to his side. His father had always taught him to be prepared for anything, but he probably would not have thought his son would end up here or living the life his son was now living. As the figure moved cautiously to the door he listened and slowly opened it. This was his new start. This was his chance. A chance he would not take lightly. Grabbing the backpack by the door he stepped out into the hallway and shut the door behind him. His old life was now truly dead.

I wanted to let you know that I just finished updating Elindriel's background, and wanted to ask a question - should we have picked a faction at this point, or will this scenario help us to do that? Even if we shouldn't have picked, do you want to know our intent? Sorry, first PFS character jitters...:-P
GM Aarvid |
Ok, we are underway in the "gameplay" section. This is my first time using googledocs for running (worked great in other games I have played, so let me know if any of you have issues).
We can fine tune any character sheets or questions in the "discussion" section.
