"Well met, Gervus," Iason calls back over the sound of the rising wind. "We will happily take up your offer of transport."
Yet, while he climbs willingly enough into the boat, Iason takes the moment to check that several of his wands are at the ready, and to side-eye the lighthouse keeper and his wide grin. After all... even if the man means very well, if there really are sea-beasts threatening, than a moment of transport in a boat is the perfect time to be attacked.
Iason sense motive on Gervus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
(Readied wands in spring-loaded wrist sheaths: wand of grease, wand of touch of the sea)

Gervus takes you to the Island bearing the lighthouse. The boat jumps from wave to wave but the man rows you to the dock safely. A rusted staircase rises 15 feet to the floor above.
"Climb up and you will find the others. There should be enough room for you to spend the night. Tell them I told you to stay here for tonight." Gervus says.
After everybody got off the boat he rows back to the shore. "I have to pick up the fishermen."

![]() |

Iason is silent for the short passage to the lighthouse rock. Once out there, he looks over the structure with sardonically arched brows.
"As a shelter, I suppose it has benefits... but I'll wager those inside haven't gotten to each more than varieties of fish in quite some time. How unpleasant. Well, let us see the situation...."
(Moving to any obvious door to hammer on it and relay Gervus's words)

![]() |

As the others move to the door of the lighthouse, Clandelve watches in silent vigil as Gervus rows back to pick up fishermen.
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Iason flashes his sunniest smile. "Visitors and travelers, madam, sent here by a concerned member of your village-- Adler. Gervus ferried us over. The storm is rising: may we enter, and discuss what plagues your people in the dry warmth?"
(If a diplomacy is needed, I'm happy to either aid or champion as needed. Diplo's a +5 for Iason.)

![]() |

"It seems Adler found help. If Gervus ferried you over, you may enter. It's nothing against you, but we have to be careful. Theank you so much!" the woman answers. "Please find a place to sleep. Are you hungry?" she asks and steps aside to let you enter. "My name is Lira, I'm the village Pastor."
Inside, blankets, cots, and makeshift beds take up the entirety of the 40-foot-diameter floor, where the villagers have taken refuge. There are about three dozens of citizens, mainly women and children.

![]() |

"Ah, I was hoping to speak to you..."
Iason enters, looking around the cramped confines of the lighthouse and the worried faces of those already here. He smiles in a reassuring fashion at them before looking back to Lira. "So you guide these citizens in religious matters? Has our Father of Law withdrawn his favor from this community, that you are plagued with sea-beasts and disappearances and the like?"

![]() |

Kiyomi barks happily upon being let in, and tries to find a child to nuzzle up against, as she loves kids, and they generally find her fuzzy and adorable.

![]() |

Clandelve watches the rowboat for another few minutes before deciding to join the others.
"Ye best tell us everything that's 'appened..." he tells the pastor. We be 'ere ta 'elp."[/b]

![]() |

When you enter, a hush falls over the room; the only sounds are a wet, labored breathing, the increasingly hard rain, and the pounding surf below. With a nervous laugh, Lira breaks the silence: "Well, it looks like Adler found help, and here’s hoping they’ll be our salvation. I suppose we should tell them about our troubles."
While Kiyomi nuzzles up against one of the children and Eshshah wanders about the lighthouse, the rest of you may talk with the citizens to find out what's going on. The villagers look unfriendly, which is usual in this village. They don't like strangers.
There is not much to explore, you have already seen the docks, the stairs leading up to the room with the citizens, more stairs leading up another 15 feet to the top of the lighthouse, where a 5-foot-wide walkway encircles the magically blazing light enclosure.
The attitude of the villagers is unfriendly. You may improve it with diplomacy checks, up to two characters may help. The more they trust you, the more they talk.

![]() |

Li Shuo is disinterested in the attitude of the people. He simply watches and observes, allowing other Pathfinders to do the talking.

Iason sticks more-or-less with Eshshah and Molluk, smiling at the worried villagers and asking if any have any current injuries, that he might take care of in the name of Glorious Asmodeus. He is a very good Chelaxian, after all.
(If anybody is injured in the lighthouse, Iason will expend charges of his Infernal Healing wand to help them.) I will take 10 to aid on the diplomacy if allowed, for a 15 and a successful aid; if not, here's my roll.)

Kiyomi barks happily and starts playing a game of "catch-me-by-the-tail" with some of the local children.

For a dwarf, Clandelve seems genuinely interested in the well-being of the villagers as he moves among them to see how he can help.

Iason favors Eshshah with an easy, benevolent smile whenever she sighs, and asks whether the sea air is having an effect on her lungs.

![]() |

Li Shou watches the citizens. They are unfriendly, but listen to Eshshah. Once she finishes you see some of the citizens smiling. The answer to Mollok's questions: Gerlach is a gillman, born with the sea’s gifts, and is a talented sorcerer and alchemist, concocting brews to aid his fellow fishermen. His discoveries on Nal-Kashel drove him mad, and he claimed to be setting things right with his people. The villagers claim the island ruins are an old Azlanti city full of dark magic. Gerlach has a lab in the village.
It's raining heavily now you hear the waves crashing at the lighthouse's pedestal. It is now completely dark outside. The villagers prepare to sleep.
do you want to set up a watch?

![]() |

Iason for third watch; he will re-summon Etrigan at the start of his watch, and keep him summoned after it.

![]() |

When Etrigan is summoned back, Kiyomi will bark happily and try to play fetch with him for a few minutes before getting tired and going back to sleep.

![]() |

That seems like enough watches, no?
Li Shuo will sit up with Kiyomi. The kitsune reminds him of his home in far-off Quain.

![]() |

Most of the citizens fall asleep, from time to time you hear a child crying or an old man coughing.
Rain pounds the lighthouse as lightning flashes, illuminating the sleeping villagers. Suddenly the door to the staircase bursts and a shocked cry rings out. The assembly gazes nervously toward the stairwell leading down. There, seawater creeps steadily upward, approaching the stain that marks the highest tides.
It is too dark to see what abomination lurks in the sea water, all you can see are tentacles coming up from the water below into the light house, trying to plug villagers and drag them into the water.

(Prior to the start of the encounter)
Etrigan grins toothily at the little fox and does, indeed, play fetch, albeit throwing what appears to be a vertebrae the size of a man's fist for the fox to chase. Iason watches this, his expression distinctly unenthused, but saying nothing for the moment.
Now- Round 1 (after Li Shuo)
Iason's head snaps towards the opened door and the rising tide... and the tentacles. Scowling, he flexes one arm and a wand of black, highly-polished wood drops into his hand. He flicks this wand in the direction of his bodyguard. Casting Grease on Etrigan's replaced cloak and the rest of his clothing, for the +10 CMD vs grapples
"Go see what the devil that thing is! Distract it from the villagers! All of you villagers, get back from the door-- come to this side, let my friends protect you!"
Etrigan smirks, and lopes dutifully down towards the rising water.
"The 'devil', as you say, is close at hand...
"This thing comes not from hell's hot pits.
"But this devil shall obey your nice command
"And take a closer, warmer look at it."
Etrigan moves to where the tentacles are trying to perform acts of hentai, and snaps at one of them, like a dog snapping at a fly. As he does, his mouth and clawed hands abruptly burst into flame, and his eyes smolder with a similarly fiery glow, casting an eerie look over the room.

Kiyomi, knowing that she will not be able to trip whatever the creature is, decides to just run up and attack it. She runs to the tentacles (Acrobatics: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21 to avoid AOOs since she's tiny), enters the square of one of them, and swings one of her tiny paws at it, trying to hit an important part of its squid-like central nervous system.

The creature must made a DC 18 Fort save or fall unconscious for rounds: 1d6 ⇒ 3. While smacking a tentacle might seem like a terrible way to knock something unconscious, octopuses and squids actually have a diffuse central nervous system, as opposed to a single brain, so it's theoretically reasonable to hit the base of one of the tentacles and knock it unconscious. LOL
Kiyomi's CMD against the creature is 19, since it's definitely at least 2 sizes larger than her.

"Back underwater, ye 'ideous beastie!" Clandelve yells as he draws his hammer and moves to engage it. He slams his hammer into a tentacle.

While the villagers squeeze at the walls of the lighthouse Iason covers Etrigan with a layer of grease. Etrigan attacks one of the tentacles which just appeared. The tentacle snaps back but continues to catch villagers a moment later. Kiyomi grabs her tiny teeth into the tentacles flesh and creates a wound, but the wound is not big enough to destroy the tentacle. Eshshah draws her kukris and asks for blessings while Mollok attacks the injured tentacle with a flaming sphere. The tentacle slips back through the door. Clandelve slams his hammer at another tentacle and also this one slips back. Li concentrates for a moment and his skin grows harder.
The tentacles continue to try to reach the villagers and get them out to drown them in the sea.

Eshshah knows that the tentacles are the arms of an abomination from the sea, way too strong to defeat it. The tentacles can't be tripped and once they grab a creature the are able to squeeze her to death. constrict The tentacles can't be flanked and are immune to cold, mind-affecting effects, sleep and visual effects.

Yeah, even though it's cinematic it would have been HILARIOUS if Kiyomi's knockout had worked on it. Totally worth wasting it. :-P
