"Hmm... if there's slaves digging here, and slaves digging outside," Iason muses, trying to piece it together, "..perhaps they're excavating some subterranean complex further down-- hold on, what's this?"
Etrigan too stops, and snarls at the wall idly. Iason squints.
"An illusion? Careful-- that patch of wall there seems to be flickering."

Iason can see through the illusonary wall:
The organic walls of this chamber appear diseased, peeling away from the bedrock walls in large flakes. The desiccated carcass of some huge, aberrant sea creature with four long tentacles writhing from this three-eyed fish-like creature lies atop a large bier-like growth rising in the center of the room. Dried husks composed of what looks like discarded, wrinkled skin lie scattered about the floor, which is coated in a thin veneer of slime.
The creature on top of the growth is a Aboleth.
The slime on the floor increases the DC of all Acrobatics checks made in the room by +5.

Sorry, weekends!
Kn Dung: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Iason peers through a wall and looks around at the room with a frown, nose wrinkled. He orders Etrigan to fetch a section of the husk from within the room, the devil simply scaling along the walls to do so, his claws digging in. When Etrigan has returned with the foul shreds, Iason wrinkles his nose at the stench.
"That corpse in there is the body of an aboleth," he says with a frown. "Deeply unpleasant..."
(Does Iason know anything aboleths? I'd go for special attacks if so.)

![]() |

Li wondered at the training his master had given him. He knew that he possessed unparalleled control over his own body and the ability to become one with the flow of ki, but at the same time he knew so little about so many things. Men like Iason seemed to possess great stores of information. Was it important? Or was the pursuit of knowledge only another form of vanity from which he must purge his mind and body. He wasn't sure.
With a sigh, he returned his attention to being vigilant in the moment, standing watch while others investigated.

![]() |

Clandelve looks at the illusory wall suspiciously, and it takes much prodding before he will pass through.
After discoverying the corpse, the dwarf says "Whit? Arenae ye gonnae eat it, Etrigan?"

![]() |

The summoner knows that Aboleths are usually deep sea cratures, huge abberations. They are intelligent. Their tentacles are able to transform flesh into slime.
Iason sends Etrigan into the room to get a piece of the dead creature, but suddenly something starts to move. The carcass slips aside and a living Aboleth rises. You hear it say some words before it attacks.
"You are not servants! You are not supposed to be here! You are not digging at the walls for my freedom, you must die!"

The bier is surrounded by the piled offerings of its skum slaves, gathered and scavenged from the island’s ruins and beneath the sea. The treasure consists of 1,436 gp in assorted old coins, 1,500 gp worth of ancient Azlanti jewelry, and a pearl which radiates magic.
The sound of metal on stone has stopped.

You head down the hallway and around the corner you see a group of five skum people sit in front of a wall. They look at each other.
A floating will-o’-wisp globe illuminates this chamber, which contains rubble and debris from an excavation against the face of the northeast wall. Water streams into the room from cracks in the wall as the surf pounds against the other side.
The water in this area is about 3 feet deep.

![]() |

"Something was digging a way out for the monster," observes Li. "And is probably still nearby."

![]() |

You see that the skum underwent similar changes to their bodies. They have black eyes, wet skin, bold heads and their eyes moved slightly to the sides of their heads.
You think that the skum people don't know where they are or what happened to them. It seems they awoke form a long sleep.
You follow the tunnel which turns to the south and back to the west, finally closing the round. The tunnel is blocked by rubble, but to the right you see the entrance to another room.
This chamber is partially flooded, its dry western section reserved for an alchemical lab cobbled together from salvaged Azlanti equipment. The lab appears to have not seen use in weeks, as dried chemicals and reagents have gummed up its condensers, extractors, and crucibles. Thin copper sheets hover above the makeshift lab, engraved with esoteric formulae.
You see a creature in this room, wearing the robes of a sorcerer. His head is fish-like but he still has legs and arms. Between his fingers and toes you see webbings. The creature hisses "You should not have come here, I haven't finished my work yet." and attacks.

Iason nods in satisfaction as the creature is taken out of the battle. He brushes off his hands, looking around the room with the useful cantrip to find magic.
"Ah, some magical liquid here... and a wand. Hmm... a formulae on these copper sheets, it would seem..."

Iason frowns some more. "Well, I suggest we take it all back to the Society; they'll be able to identify and sort it all out eventually, I imagine."
He opens his haversack and starts putting in the liquids, directing Etrigan to catch the hovering copper plates.
"Unfortunately, we've found no other passage out yet. I might have to fly us out with the aid of outsiders."

As they pass back into the room with the skum, Iason clears his throat.
"Do you speak Common? You're free of the caster who dwelt here..."
(Well, let's see how they react first-- it seemed like they just let us go by with no notice taken of us, yes?)

![]() |

Yes, they were confused, because they just awoke from a mass domination thing.
"We are free?" one of them asks. "But we were supposed to repay our depts to the sea. The creatures in the deep are our ancestors. Mohl’omog wanted us to did this hole to release him from his prison."
They don't act agressive, but they are not sure what to do now.

![]() |

"Mohl'omog?" Iason echoes. "Hmmm... a prison? Are you speaking of the aboleth back in the other room?" he gestures.
"If so that creature is dead as well. I cannot speak to your... debt or your ancestry, but you need not stay or labor here unless it is your own will that you do so. Of course, as subjects within the boundaries of Imperial Cheliax, your labors can likely be put towards more fitting ends."
Etrigan grins.
