The trench leads into a cave in the cliff face, 50 feet deep and 30 feet wide, eerily lit by two will-o’-wisp globes. The canal extends for the length of the cave and terminates at a partially uncovered wall of strange, sculpted coral. You hear the sounds of metal scraping on stone from the other side of the wall.
You identify the coral wall as a deeply set foundation.
Most of the villagers are gillmen. They all suffer from the island's warping.
You reveal an enchantment effect on the villagers.

Iason idly scans for magic as they approach. "I don't know about killing them," he observes, "but they are definitely mind-bound here by some enchantment or another. Probably we won't be able to convince them to leave. --no, Etrigan."

"This appears to be a foundation for some other structure, perhaps. And the slaves have been tasked to dig to uncover it? More strangely, I hear the sound of tools against stone on the other side. They cannot be trying to break into this structure, or there would be no noises from the other side. Very strange..."

I was afraid you would say that. Mollok mumbles. Better get ready for the worse just in case... The tiefling awaits a few moments for the group to prepare and than approuches the coral wall and tries to make peaceful contact.

Kiyomi barks at several of the villagers, trying to get them to pay attention to her. When they will not do so, she whines a bit and goes back to trying to get Etrigan to play with her.

"Well, as we already thought, charmed," Iason says with a nod, completely ignoring Clandelve's muttered comment. "Etrigan-- pick up that fellow there-- no, do not hurt him-- and deposit him thirty feet over... yes, like that, thank you."
The devil leaves off pulling faces at Kiyomi to go do this. The villager I assume? just resumes work. Etrigan chuckles.

"Spare us all your insights, please," Iason says with an eyeroll. "Well, if there is nothing else of interest down here..."
He lets the others conclude their search before ambling back to the stairs.

Iason finds this amusing and barks a laugh; Etrigan just growls, and raises a hand to claw the peasant, only to be stopped by Iason's sharp "No."
Hissing, the devil leaves the villager be and lopes back to his master's side.

You move to the structure in the center of the island. Tall, cracked walls surround this structure. They are punctuated by two grand arched entryways, only one of which still stands. Massive, verdigris-coated mounts for huge lenses hover lazily over the complex, their glass long ago shattered, while ruined aqueducts lead away from the structure in sweeping curves, disappearing into the island’s foliage.
The Graceful, still standing, crumbling archways open into a large bathing
room. Two pools stand in the center of the room, full of stagnant water.

"How has no one found this place before now?" wonders Li. He moves to stand guard, bow in hand.

Iason shrugs, gazing around. "Perhaps they did. Perhaps they were affected by the same curse currently transforming us.... and never left."
He casts a spell to detect magic, and turns about in place, examining the structure, and the two pools. "Etrigan, forward please, see what is there..."
The devil lopes forward, further into the structure.
Is this a pyramid? If so, Etrigan will start climbing up towards the top.

You advance into the complex. A marvel of engineering, the interior of the complex is a deep, stepped well plunging to a dry basin below. Each level consists of a narrow walkway with steep stairs in the corners that lead to the level below, creating a spiraling descent to the bottom of the pit. Half of the structure is ruined, with debris littering large portions of the walkways.

Suddenly woman breaks from the overgrown ruins ahead, shrieking as three dark shapes bear down on her. The creatures look like flying mats of tangled seaweed, but with toothy maws. The woman abruptly stops, cut off in mid-scream, as the closest creature moans horribly, then drops down and completely engulfs her. The woman is already injured. You can see gills on her throat and her skin is pale.

Etrigan goes for the nearest foe and bites, but before that the foe takes it's chance to strike with its tail but misses. Etrigan's teeth sink deeply into the creature's flesh.
