The group looks around, expecting more chicken-things to appear. Thirty seconds go by, and nothing, then out of behind the chicken coop is a larger adult cockatrice.
It takes flight and starts to fly towards you, upset that you killed its "babies".

"I knew these little ones couldn't have been the only ones around. Let's use its anger against it. Strike with your spells when it gets in range."
He then directs himself to the enlarged barbarian.
"Please resist the urge to charge in. Wait for it to come to you, then strike before it can attack you."
If I am correct, seeing as you are enlarged, you currently threaten 5ft & 10ft with your hammer, so you can normally get an attack of opportunity + a readied attack in before it can actually attack you.
While speaking, Jamir takes on a defensive pose.
Going total defense for +4 dodge bonus to AC

Spells Prepared: Enlarge Person, Color Spray, Silent Image, Vanish
Taking notice of the mother's coloration and distinctive markings, Bartholomew imagines what the adult male of the species might look like. Perhaps more flamboyant colors, larger tail, brighter comb. Thanks to the bit of fleece on his belt, and a few words, the rest of the party gets to see Batholomew's silent image rendition of a male cockatrice. This one is about 10 feet tall and appears above the party flapping, before coming to rest directly front and center, its chest puffed out, ready to face the angry mother.
Bartholomew hopes that his image is convincing, as this is the first time he's ever seen one of these creatures.

Oh, and my Silent Image DC is 16
Tagatha |
Tagatha ponders the stone chickens lying around the yard. "I'm not sure these constitute alive OR dead...why do all the rest of them think these 'cockatrices' are what we were sent for?'
When the big female comes out, he steps back. His tribe has hunted many fowl, but this one looks like it can hunt back...
No matter.
'জাদু ক্ষেপণাস্ত্র ' A sphere of pure force shoots toward the bird.

Rayne Oremé |
Aye, that'd be good to know. I have improved grapple for one minute starting right before the previous battle - do I still have a few rounds left?
Also, Rayne pulls out the 3 javelins he had in his bag, holding one ready to throw and the other two in his off-hand. Can I do that, to throw all of them easily, or do I have to put the other two down? If so, Rayne puts the two down, instead.
"Should I try to grab this one, too? Also, should we be expecting one more of these things? Presumably, this is those smaller two's mother - what about the father?"
Kala Krunn |
It also means I have 4 rounds left of rage.
Kala turns to face the man talking to her. "Hmph," she says, "You talk like papa talked." She then braces herself for the monster's charge.
Readying an action to attack with hammer when the cockatrice gets into Kala's range.

Apparently, the silent image cockatrice had no effect on the mother. "I'll have to work on my cockatrice images" he thinks to himself. Dropping concentration, Bartholomew steps up next to Kala just after her attack on the beast and casts color spray, engulfing the mother, but careful not to hit anyone else, especially Kala.
"Take this you foul fowl!" See what I did there? With the title of the adventure?

Assuming it's not dead:
Rayne moves to have clear line of sight, burns a swift action and usage of Martial Flexibility to gain Precise Shot (wouldn't do to hit Kala instead of the chickenthing), and hurls the javelin with all his might.
Not using combat expertise, which drops my AC down to 16.

Kala, smashes the cockatrice hard with her hammer. It stumbles from the heavy blow, wobbles a second then attacks Kala with a vicious bite. It digs deeps into her calf muscle and keaves a three inch gash down her leg. Her body is strong thouh, and fights off the crippling effects most people would succumb to.
Tagatha sends another ball of force slamming into the creature, while Rayne chucks a javelin at the foul fowl, impaling it in the ribs. Bartholomew causes a vivid display of purples, pinks, and greens to shoot forth from his palms, enveloping the angry chicken, hoping to overload its visual senses. It's eyes start to cross slightly, but it stays standing, refusing to go down.
Can the line man who has yet to go, Jamir, kill the creature before it can peck Kala's eyes out?

With a mighty swing, Kala brings her hammer down on the NOW caved in cranium of the cockatrice. There is a final twitch of its leg, but that is all. All is quiet in the extra-dimensional space. A minute passes, Kala's rage subsides. She is winded, but luckily no other threats present themselves.
Kala, and the test of the group return to the mage, Kala giving the man a piece of her mind. She wants to hammer his face in, but thinks better if it. She figures if an old wizard could presumably create said space, he could handle himself in combat. She had heard tales of old wizards bending the world around them to their will.
He looks at you all, I am sorry for deceiving you. I figured you would be like everyone else and refuse to help if you knew the truth. I am too old to be dealing with cockatrice, a few bites and I could be a stone statue. But I am a man of my word.
He points to a table, where there are 5 pouches. Inside each is the 1500 gold pieces promised and a small vial labeled Blur
Bartholomew Barleygrain |
"So, I'm curious, how did those creatures get in to begin with? Also, we weren't quite clear about your instructions. Did you want these?"
Bartholomew sets a bag of petrified chickens on the table, and another bag of cockatrice parts next to it.
Kala Krunn |
Kala decides to let the old man off this time. "Next time you need help with monster," she says to him, "say you need help with monster and Kala will help."
She then turns to Bartholomew. "And what was magic spell you cast that make Kala giant?"
Maybe not all magic is bad after all.
Bartholomew Barleygrain |
"Oh, yeah. That. That's just something I learned from a book in the library. I think it was called enlarge person. Did you know they make droughts liquid that produce the same result? They're not the best tasting, but the price is usually reasonable."
Rayne Oremé |
Rayne shrugs. "In my opinion, the element of suspense made it that much more exciting. Thank's for the stuff!"
Grabbing the pouch and vial, he heads out the door.
