DM Stylz |

You are in a tavern, the Roaming Dragon Inn. There is mead flowing almost freely from the tap. An Ifrit Bard is singing on a stage in the back corner. One table is playing a drinking game, another is playing poker. Everyone is having a good time. You see a flyer on the tavern wall, a help wanted sign.
Chicken wrangler needed. Paying well for a few hours time. Please contact wizard Dudly for more information.
After a heavy night of drinking, and some ample time sleeping it off, you decide some extra coin would go a long way in getting more mead and stronger liquor.
You gear up and head towards Dudly's. You arrive at a one story house, slightly rundown but still otherwise well maintained. You knock, no answer. You knock again, and this time you hear a gruff, rumble voice, Ima comin' Ima comin'. Hold yer horses!
After a few moments pass, an older man opens the door. He has a white beard, a gray-white mustache and is bald on top except for a few wispy strands of hair on the top. He looks the lot of you over, makes a few "hmmm" sounds, than looks at Jamir.
What can I do for you folks? Need a potion or other concoction?

Jamir O'Quai |

Wonder what a wizard would need a chicken wrangler for? ... Seems to be your typical wizard, gruff but businesslike ... Potions are always interesting. Maybe he needs some chickens for a specific concoction? ... No potions for us at the moment, sir. We saw the help wanted sign in the Roaming Dragon Inn. You need a chicken wrangler, sir?

DM Stylz |

Oh...I forgot I even posted that...it must have been a couple weeks ago. I didn't even know people paid attention, the old man rambles for a few seconds longer. He than looks up to you five, I need you to wrangle me up some chickens. The chickens are in my extra-dimensional farm. I need you to go into the extra-dimensional space, and wrangle me up some chickens, two to be exact. I will pay you each 1500 gold pieces PLUS a free potion of your choosing from my collection.
He lets that all sink in, then after a minute or so, Do we have a deal?

Jamir O'Quai |

1500 gold pieces each? ... for 2 chickens? ... Must be a catch somewhere ... "Is there something specific we need to know about these chickens?" Jamir said, looking at the wizard.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Does he seem sincere? Holding back something? Is there a catch?

Jamir O'Quai |

Old and decrepit chickens? I could get 75000 of those down at the market with my share alone, maybe 37500 if he only wants a specific breed or color. There must be something up with the ones he wants, else he wouldn't pay this kind of money for them, let alone have them stuck in an extra-dimensional space.
Jamir looked at Dudly with a face clearly showing that he found his excuse difficult to believe.
"I mean no disrespect sir ... Dudly, was it? But if they were just some old and decrepit chickens, I could go get them for you at the market. I don't know about the others, but I do want to help you. I just like to know what exactly I'm getting into before committing to it."
Going to wait a bit to see what the others have to say about this :)

Kala Krunn |

After a heavy night of drinking, and some ample time sleeping it off, you decide some extra coin would go a long way in getting more mead and stronger liquor.
This is an accurate description of Kala's thought process.
Kala turns to her inquisitive human companion. "This man is magic man, yes?" she says. "Maybe chickens are magic too."

DM Stylz |

The chickens are angry and they bite. Me, I am old and in no condition to wrangle them myself. I was hoping I could find others that would be willing to help me out. All I am asking is for a few minutes of your time to earn a wealthy amount of money. Hell, she even looks like she still might be a little woozy, the last statement is directed at Kala.

Rayne Oremé |

Rayne, like Jamir, would like more information before committing.
Sense Motive:: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Nevermind.
I say we take the job, magic or no magic." To the wizard: "Like the cat said - You want them alive, or dead?"

Tagatha |

Tagatha shoots a look at Rayne, one with lots of teeth...a smile... perhaps. He turns to the old man, his fanged look unchanging.
"We have a deal." Then he extends his hand, being careful of course to not have his claws out.

Bartholomew Barleygrain |

Bartholomew comes running in, out of breath, just as the deal is being made. Sorry, first pbp. I did not notice there were tabs on this thread. This noob is learning...
"Wait! Wait! Am I too late? I'm not too late am I?" Bartholomew continues to speak between gasps while catching his breath, "Just heard from the guys down at the pub that a team was coming up here to wrangle chickens. And if it's chicken wrangling you need done, I am your man. I grew up on a farm you see. And if I wasn't wrangling chickens since before I could walk, I'm a goblin's uncle!"

DM Stylz |

Nope just in time. Please follow me everyone
With that, he turns a walks back into the house. He leads you down a hallway, takes a left hand turn. He then goes down another hall and ends at a simple looking door.
So this is a two way portal, and I will give you the key to it. Inside is a cottage, to the east 200 paces is my garden and 300 to the west of the cottage is my chicken coop. The chickens are in the coop, that is where you need to go. [b]
He looks to Jamir, [b] since you are worried, please prepare as you folks see fit them enter when ready, he hands a sapphire key to Jamir and turns to walk away. I will be in my study when you are done

Bartholomew Barleygrain |

See now folks, the key to wrangling chickens is that you have to grab them by the wings. That way they can't bite you or kick at you. I've got a sack here for stuffing them into. Ready when you are.

Rayne Oremé |

Rayne flexes his wrists, and arms, and back, reminding anyone watching of a cat waking up from a nap to go catch a mouse that just scurried past.
Looking to the rest of the group, "Ready?"

Jamir O'Quai |

Jamir looked at the group and spoke with a slightly concerned voice.
"That wizard didn't tell us everything about those chickens, so be prepared for anything. Does anyone still need to prepare spells or something like that?"
Mostly looking in the direction of our wizard in this case :)
The others seem eager to get their hands dirty. Let's hope I'm just overthinking this and it's just regular old chickens ...
Jamir's demeanor changed a bit and he continued with a more upbeat attitude.
"If everyone's ready, let's get this show on the road. The sooner we finish this, the sooner we can get back to the inn."

Rayne Oremé |

Rayne glances once more at the rest of the party, pulls/pushes the door open, and heads through, presumably followed by everyone else.

Jamir O'Quai |

not without the key he ain't ;) But Jamir was going to open the door when everyone gave their ok, which I guess would be after Kala's reply ^_^, so carry on ...

DM Stylz |

Rayne uses the sapphire key, and opens the door. Inside is a quaint little area. There is a small cottage which he spoke of. Nothing fancy, but humble. You head due west, and after about 250 paces you in fact see a chicken coop, roughly made of course.
As you near closer, and you get within 60 paces, you see coop is busted open. But the worst part is you see little statues of chickens around the coop, four in all. When you investigate, and get within 30 paces, you see two hideous avian creature with the body of an emaciated rooster, the wings of a bat, and a long, scaly tail.

I knew it wouldn't be any ordinary chickens!! I think I've seen one of these before in a book. What were they called again ...
Jamir will act once his brain tells him the proper information ;)

Kala Krunn |

Upon seeing the 'chickens', Kala believes that they are not actually chickens at all, although being uninitiated in the ways of magic, she does not know what the creatures are.
"I will smash lying magic man!" Kala yells, quite clearly getting angrier by the second. "But first ..." she adds in a much deeper growling voice.
If anyone does want to cast any kind of buff on Kala, do so now because, once her turn comes up, she will enter rage mode and her superstition power means, among other things, she will be making boosted saves versus allies' spells whether she wants to or not.

Tagatha |

There is no 'when my turn comes up'. As I understand it, DM Stylz has posted we all go before the creatures. He who posts first, goes first. Then the bad guys will go, then our turn again.
'This can't be good. What in the name...'

"towenaar wapens!" Cast Mage Armor: effective AC 18

Bartholomew Barleygrain |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Oooo, mage armor... that's a good idea. I wasn't really expecting chickens this large. Maybe you take the lead on this one Kala. It looks like you have the temperament for it. If the chickens are large, why not the wranglers?
Begins casting enlarge person on Kala

Rayne Oremé |

Rayne scowls when he sees the chicken-creatures. "I don't know what these are, but a job's a job." He glances at Kala, "Ladies first. Wouldn't want to get in your way."
Well, those look disgusting. Maybe we should have asked more questions before accepting the job...Well, as me mam used to say, the best way to catch a chicken is with your hands.
Swift action to spend one use of Martial Flexibility (2/3 uses left) and grant myself Improved Grapple (the feat) for one minute. I'm gonna try to wait for Kala to attack, then follow behind her.

DM Stylz |

The chickens or as Jamir realizes as cockatrice are tiny in size. They appear to be juvenile specimens of the creature. If they bite you, their saliva is known to stiffen and garden your bones. Enoygh bites, and one has been know to turn into stone (much like the real chickens)

Rayne delays action, waiting for Kala.
Delayed action, to act as soon as Kala takes her turn.
I assume Kala took a delayed action to act as soon as Enlarge Person was done casting? If not, still gonna move immediately after her.
I'm planning on grappling one of them, but if I succeed it's a -2 to AC. Don't want the other one wailing on me if I succeed, or both if I fail :P

Both angry chickens, bum rush Kala. Both beaks dig into her flesh and despite being tiny in stature manage to rip some big chunks of flesh from her leg and shin area.

Bartholomew Barleygrain |

Spells Prepared: Enlarge Person, Color Spray, Silent Image, Vanish
Bartholomew finishes his enlarge person spell, and races over to where Kala stands. He pulls a handful of colored sand from his pocket, mutters an enchantment under his breath, and lets fly a cascade of lights.
If I can hit the "chickens" without tagging Kala, I'll cast Color Spray (DC16), If that is not possible, I will make a ranged touch attack at the nearest "chicken" using my Blinding Ray Ability
Alternate Action:
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Kala Krunn |

OK so it's Fortitude saves.
1st save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
2nd save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
That's gotta be a pass on both, right? Anyway, entering rage mode and being enlarged applies the following to Kala (note that these are new totals, not adjustments):
- Dexterity: 12 (+1)
- Constitution: 20 (+5)
- HP: 23/27
- AC: 10 (8 touch, 9 flat foot)
- Fortitude: +8 (+10 vs spells, SLA and Su)
- Reflex: +1 (+3 vs spells, SLA and Su)
- Will: +3 (+5 vs spells, SLA and Su)
- To-hit: +7 melee (+6 PA), +2 ranged, +9 CMB, 20 CMD
- Earth breaker total damage: 3d6+10 (3d6+13 PA)
"Argh!" Kala yelps as the not-chickens bite her. It is just after this, however, that she starts seeing everything shrink around her. "What is this?" Kala asks with a bit of fright in her voice, just before her sudden growth spurt stops, leaving her at double her normal size. She feels a lot stronger now and, as she takes a step back, she glowers at the two not-chickens at her feet.
"Now you die!" Kala shouts before slamming her enlarged hammer on the weaker of the two not-chickens.
Kala takes a 5-foot step back so that she may strike one of the cockatrices, and then Power Attacks the weaker-looking one (ie, the one with less HP left).
To-hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 3d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 3, 3) + 13 = 20

Rayne Oremé |

Rayne takes a moment (a small one) to appreciate having a really big barbarian on his side, then turns to the cockatrice that has more HP.
"I guess this one's mine, then" Lunging forward, he attempts to grab the mutant chicken thing.
Moving forward, if necessary, to be next to the stronger cockatrice, then attempting a grapple.
Grapple Check: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 2 = 27
-4 to Dexterity, -2 on all attack rolls/combat maneuver checks (except those to escape/continue grapple), I think that's everything important.

Kala, with her new found strength and size, does her best to bring her sword down upon the not-so-chicken. The tiny creature is agile but instead of dodging left it goes right and gets squished under the sheer weight of her blade.
Tagatha fires a ball of pure force, and it slams into the cockatrice. It staggers a bit, but keeps squawking. Rayne walks up to tiny creature and grabs it by the beak, the grabs the rest of its tiny body and refuses to let go. While picking it up, he looses his grasp on the beak, which the cockatrice digs into Rayne's arm.
AOO Rayne grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Jamir O'Quai |

He used martial flexibility for improved grapple so normally no aoo
Jamir spent the first round explaining why you shouldn't get pecked by a cockatrice. When he saw what happened, he moved around to the other side of the grappled bird and stabbed at it with his rapier.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 +2 for flanking?
Damage if hit: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Kala Krunn |

Kala, with her new found strength and size, does her best to bring her sword down upon the not-so-chicken.
It's a hammer, not a sword :P
Without uttering a single word, Kala turns her rage on the remaining not-chicken. A menacing grin spreads across her face.
To-hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 (I don't think that confirms)
Damage: 3d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) + 13 = 22
Extra Damage for Crit???: 6d6 + 26 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6) + 26 = 55 (Aw man)

Rayne Oremé |

Rayne continues wrestling with the chicken-thing, assuming it's still alive.
Grapple: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9 Probably another +5 for already having the grapple. A bit confused by the wording in the Combat Maneuver entry.
Assuming the grapple check succeeded, I can inflict damage equal to my unarmed strike:
Unarmed Strike(Power Attack): 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10 damage

Bartholomew Barleygrain |

Well, this is the strangest looking chicken I have ever seen Bart holds up the tail curiously, then looks around for more not-chickens. Must be a foreign breed eh?

Rayne Oremé |

Wiping the remains of the chicken-thing off of him, Rayne stands up. "They were probably imported for breeding stock :P...though why anyone would want half-partchickenthings is beyond me."
After standing up, he looks around, taking stock of the surroundings and checking for any more possible threats.

Jamir O'Quai |

"Well they aren't exactly chickens, but I do think these are the ones he sent us to get."
Jamir looked at the Pile formerly known as Cockatrice ...
"He did say he didn't care whether we brought them back dead or alive, but I do think he wanted more than just a tail, but that could just be me?"
