For Love of Evil

Game Master NarcoticSqurl

With the smell of fine ale, and the sound of laughter in the air, you sit at the bar drinking a mug of the owners finest. The dusty old tavern reminds you of home, and although everybody seems to be having a good time, from across the room you notice a hooded man sitting by the fire. "Who is that man?" you ask the barkeep. "Oh, him? He's here every now and then." The barkeep polishes more mugs, wiping in tune with the dwarven dance song. "He's often quiet, but if you've got coin to spare, he's more than a tale or two to share." Slowly, you make a wobbly walk over to a chair by the fireplace. After placing a few silver pieces in the mans donation box, he stirs from his silent stature.

"Take a look into the fire lad. Let the embers take you back. To a time when fear held the land hostage, and deaths hold was all but certain. I'll tell you of the brave ones, who sought to bring peace to the land." He leans back in his chair and reaches into his cloak. He pulls out a pipe and tobacco, lighting his herb to begin his story.

Hello everybody. Welcome to the recruitment thread for a slow homebrew campaign "For Love of Evil". I'm a new GM (I've gm'd one game before, and felt I didn't do too great, so I'm looking to get better, and give people a fun experience in the process). I'll post a brief overview of the rules, and guidelines for submissions.

-I'll be recruiting 5-6 individuals. This is going to be a slow campaign, but if you can post at least once per day, that's all I require. More is certainly welcome, but I work 3rd shift, so time I can dedicate to the boards will be less than most GM's.

-Recruitment will go until Saturday January 12, 2013 at 11:59 pm EST. If I'm late shutting down the recruitment thread, then I will be fair and allow submissions that are posted before the shutdown post.

-Characters will be on a 25 Point buy

-Races: All races from core rulebook, or advanced players guide allowed (with PSRD link). If you have a custom race you'd like to play, let me know. I worked with a GM to create an Elvish Dhampir, so if you keep it within the 10 RP standard limit, PM to me and I'll most likely ok it.

-Classes: I'd like to let any class available, as long as you can provide a link to the class description. Multi-classing is fine, but no 3rd party material.

-Alignment: Any good or neutral alignment. As much as I'd love to have Evil PC's, you're going to be the hero's in this campaign (who knew!).

-Players will start at level 5, and have standard wealth for that level. You will be allowed a single +1 weapon that is not included in equipment purchasing cost. And as far as hitpoints go, you will take full hit points for level 1, then roll the additional levels and include if you took Bonus HP for favored class or an extra skill point instead.

You will be doing a lot of role-play, as well as battle. So when you post, be sure to include the crunch, as well as a marvelous and intriguing backstory. Good luck to all participants, and I look forward to reading your submissions.

could I play a Elan with psion class with transparency rules magic/powers co-link etc, if not Ill make a race 10RP sounds good.

I am definitely interested in this. I think I would like to submit a Tiefling Rogue, or perhaps gunslinger. I will have more for you to consider soon.

Hmm. This could be a good fit for a character concept I have in mind. Let me run the numbers and get back to you.

1d8 ⇒ 4
1d8 ⇒ 6
1d8 ⇒ 4
1d8 ⇒ 6

Type of campaign? Predominant setting/region?

@Spugly: I will allow the psion class since it was a class from 3.5, and since Pathfinder is still relatively new, I don't doubt they'll add it at some point anyways. I would however prefer a different race from Elan.

@MisterLurch: Link to Tiefling please? I can't find it through google, and even though it's a legal race, I'm extremely curious to see what paizo changed from 3.5 tiefling. They were one of my favorites. >:D

@Kastarr: I take it those are HP rolls? I'm very curious to see what you're cooking up :)

@Black Thom: Gothic Horror, with classic fantasy thrown in (Dragons and stuff) and I'm doing this in my own campaign setting. Right now it's a small setting, with only a few places fleshed out, so you'll essentially be playtesting and helping make the developement easier for me in addition to being players.

I should also state that part of the campaign setting dictates that casters require blood to cast spells. Wizards can prepare ahead of time, but sorcerers must use their blood in spell casting. Each class takes 1 point of non-lethal damage to cut for blood each time they need to. Each cut lasts for 4 spells.

Tiefling

I loved all the premises. I would like to submit a human witch. Maybe with minor alterations, if you allow...

Oh, the link to the witch class, as required...

I'd like to submit this character, which was originally meant for another campaign. I'd have to do some adjustment and rework some things, also fully put in the crunch, but the basic concepts are all here.

He is a Gillmen Cleric with the Healing and Oceans (Water) domains.

He makes extensive use of Ioun Stones so tell me if you won't allow them. If you'd like to imagine them in use, imagine a bunch of floating stones constantly circling my character.

If you'd like anything in the background expanded or reworked, do tell me. It was meant for an Absalom campaign so most of the background is centered in that area. Of course, he could just as easily have washed up somewhere else....

I'm interested in this but i've a few questions, I'm rolling up an Elf, hopefully with the Desert runner and Fleet-Footed Alternate Racial Traits if that's okay with you and so I'm wondering, how do Elves fit in your homebrew campaign setting? Also can we have our free +1 weapons be made from a special material and if so how would that work? I was going to buy a +1 Silversheen Greatsword before i noticed the free weapon line.

@Badman: Thanks for the link, and witch is fine but will still require blood for spells.

@Cliks: Ioun stones are fine as well, though if you wash up somewhere, iLl probably require explanation of how they stayed with you, unless they do in water.

@Burnheart: Elves still exist so they fit fine. And silver is an integral part of the setting, so that's fine. Most materials could be ok'd if sufficient explanation is given, without being too overpowered.

Posting to show interest.

Am also doinga 'Night Shift' so getting any sort of character behind this avatar will be a few more days yet.

Also, what is the DM's thoughts on 'Ocean Elves' as per the 'Inner Sea Guide' and this link. => Link

[ooc]very much cheers to all.

Wondering if this character, background and concept would be okay. If not let me know. Seems much like a campaign I could get into.

Still need to level him and run crunch, but wanted to check.

Is tiefling okay then?

Would you have a problem with a kitsune wizard?

I will have to level up to 5th still. Also, would you have a problem with the Magical Tail feat for kitsunes?

HP: 4d10 ⇒ (10, 8, 4, 2) = 24

Gothic Horror, you say?

I have this character from a Ravenloft game that died. I'd love to reprise him. His background is very heavy with Ravenloft and Ustalav lore, but honestly just changing the name of Strahd to whatever your local Big Bad Nobleman is would probably be enough.

Simon is a monster hunter from a long line of monster hunters. He's a whip-fighter which means he's a bit offensively weak right now, but I make up for that with creativity.

As for myself, I'm a very dedicated and reliable poster, and I love in-depth roleplaying. If you pick me you won't be disappointed.

Have any questions or suggestions about Simon?

I submit Meridian Anterian, Tiefling Musket Master.

I still need to enter his background and update his equipment/money, but the rest is finished.

I am interested. Would you be able to provide a little more detail as to the starting location of your homebrew setting?

Kastarr Eunson here with Auvryn the Darkbreaker (I assumed you were using the Golarion deities. If not, I can substitute for a more fitting deity).

Background
Auvryn has only ever known Nethys. Abandoned as a child, a local wizard took the child in as he had felt the first few tendrils of his own mortality and wished to pass his knowledge down to another.

Unfortunately, Auvryn did not have the intelligence required to become a wizard but that did not turn him away from the worship of Nethys. Rather, his wisdom beyond his years showed him that while knowledge was essential, the incorrect application of that knowledge could bring about disastrous effects.

Nethys must have agreed, for Auvryn found himself capable of casting spells although with a much more divine power rather than arcane. Since pledging himself to Nethys' plan, Auvryn has wandered the country with his horse, Titus, in search of dangerous knowledge and artifacts, determined to see to their capture and secretion within church and temple walls.

Now, with evil on the march, Auvryn's calling is all the more important and he must see to the elimination of as much magical power that the dark side has as possible.

@Sunny: Ocean Elves are fine.

@Silent: Can you expand the background a little bit? How does he fare alone in the wilderness? Has he ever encountered zombies, or werewolves, and if so, how did he handle it?

@MisterLurch: Tieflings are more than ok. They're one of my favorite races.

@Kiwyn: No problem with Kitsune. Though the area that I have worked up is similar to a gothic Europe style area (think Van Hellsing, Underworld 3, etc.) So I'll be interested to see how he made it there.

@Sir Simon Ravencourt: Dead? Dead you say? I doubt heartily your character hath met his fate at the hands of Ravenloft. Perhaps a citizen of Eastwall found you passed out in the nearby forest :O

@Meridian: I like the character so far, looking forward to reading the background.

@LurkingTyranny: The starting location will be a shoreline and forest close to the village of Eastwall, a small tiered city built as a barracks. The second level of which is home to the mayor and high inquisitor of the church. They've been under recent attack from the creatures of the forest, and seem very untrusting of travelers, as bad luck always seems to follow new faces. It's high tide, and the fog in the forest is thick, obscuring the vision of the PC's. One of the PC's has a piece of a map detailing the location of Eastwall, and the first objective is to head to the village.

@Auvryn: Nice background. I like the characters story.

I will start making a list of submitted characters tomorrow, so if you know anybody who might be interested in the campaign, have them sign up. Also I think I've been noticing some characters that may have missed a note. You are allowed one free +1 weapon of your choice. So if you haven't done so already, add that to your character sheet.

Oh, no. Simon is very much alive. It was the game that died.

I figured I'd just work that game into Simon's backstory, and since the game ended prematurely, I get to finish the story.

Which means Simon will be joining this game just after a harrowing near-death victory against the Vampire Lord of Ravenloft!

Character set. Check it over to make sure it's okay.

For added background::

Assuming I've come to surface, Silent has encountered zombies and such. Seeing that drow and other creatures, keep them as pets and what not in underdark. He is not phased much by them. He defiantly doesn't mind putting his axe into them. As for werewolves, Silent hasn't encountered one yet. He wouldn't react well, that for sure. Not panic but a little shocked.
Silent hasn't fared well. He's not much welcome in several towns and not much liked in the ones he can enter. Because of his charismatic nature and his ill temper. But he does do some business because of the quality of armor he makes.

@Silent: I like the character. The crunch is laid out awesomely, thank you for that.

Thanks! I think he'll be a ton of fun to role-play.

@Simon: Care to share the near-death experience?

First off, hit points
1d6 ⇒ 1
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d6 ⇒ 6
1d6 ⇒ 3

Secondly, instead of the +1 weapon offered in your first post, can one opt for something of equal value like a ring of protection +1?

Ouch, 17hp at 5th. This vixen will be staying out of melee for sure. :p

EDIT: did not see a need to make another post just for this.

background:
With family roots reaching back to the distant lands of Tian Xia, this Kitsune is no stranger to the lust and curiosity of seeking the new and exciting. Her parents traveled across the wide sea under the guise of humans to seek out fortune and fame in a new land. Settling in a bustling port city after journeys of their own, they opened a small import/antique shop. The bustling city provided a stimulating enough environment to keep the couple happy and soon the two had a litter of their own. Her mage mother using her magic to keep them disguised until they could do so themselves.
Their youngest was a curious and energetic little cub named Kiwyn. In time each of her siblings found their callings and ventured out to find their own adventures. For Kiwyn, her talents laid down the path of magic like her mother, who happily taught her the arcane arts. Soon, her time came to leave home too. Armed with spells copied from her mother’s tomes and a small gift from her father Kiwyn set out on her own journey.

Drawn by tales of mystery and stories of old the young kitsune roams far and wide. On her own, Kiwyn relies on her quick mind and nimble feet to survive. Using her blossoming magic skills to aid her where her lack of physical strength fails her. Around others she is fine with playing the role of a young human wizard, sometimes even pretending to be less experience then she actually is.

If it is not enough, just let me know.

Zhan is a character I was running for a while in a Carrion Crown adventure path, and is distinctly of a Gothic Horror type flavor. The GM retired, and I took over running it, and retired the character, as he was not well suited to the GMPC role. However, I loved playing him, and would love a chance to bring him into a game again.

He was a pretty simple man who lived in a small village with his wife and worked as the undertaker. Unknown to him at the time, the woman he married was a Necromancer on the run. She married him to play the domestic and keep a low profile for a while until the hunt for her died down. Marrying the undertaker also had the advantage of giving her access to fresh corpses with which to continue her research. He was oblivious, and happy, and doted on their daughter.

Once enough time had passed, and her research was complete, she murdered her husband, and reanimated him as a protector. She may have tipped her hand too early though, as some heroes tracker her down soon after she revealed herself. They defeated her protector and the other undead that she had created, but were unable to find the woman herself. In order to gain an ally and guide, they raised the former undead guardian back to life, or a semblance of it, a used him to track her down. They defeated her and ended her plans, though whether she was truly killed remains to be proven.

Since his return to life, Zhan has left behind his simple life and has begun to hunt necromancers, the undead, and any that would misuse such power. He is an Inquisitor, and he uses a keen eye to track down every hint he can. Ultimately, he what he wishes for the most is to find out what happened to the daughter that disappeared with his former wife, and reclaim her.

HP: 4d8 ⇒ (7, 3, 3, 6) = 19

Zhan was originally human, but with some racial flexibility being indicated, I might work up some sort of half-undead type of race to represent the conflux of magic energies he was exposed to, and the residue of the strange guardian form his wife created from him.

John spent many years killing in the name of his masters. The national council used brute force to keep order and enforce discipline. John was that force. He has lost track of how many 'bad people' he had dispatched, and that was when he knew he could take no more. Leaving his former nation, and vowing to never kill again, John turned to faith in quiet meditation far from his former home. His became a simple life of traveling and protecting people, using words and tactics to stop those who threaten goodness and decency wherever he went. Since that day, John has never killed anything.
HP: 4d10 + 4 ⇒ (6, 9, 8, 4) + 4 = 31

Rolling for HP!

4d8 + 8 + 5 + 10 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 2) + 8 + 5 + 10 = 39 (class die, 1st level max, 5 favored class, 2 con * 5 level)

Thank'e Master GM Silverbane for the feed back, here are my ideas.

I have two character/Class concepts.

Idea 1: Saracen of Calistra:
First two levels as Barbarian(Titan Mauler) Then three levels (And every level there-after) of Magus(Kensai) So.. an arcane whirling Dervish of bladed death as opposed to a Divine whirling dervish of bladed death. With the added bonus of using/wielding a big @rsed, damage dealing sword PLUS naffy magic bonuses being added to big @rsed sword. (^_^)

Idea 2: Mortal combat FIGHT:
So, for this idea alternate between 'Ninja' and "monk'. Going with a Neutral Good alignment (From this trait=>Enlightened Warrior gained by taking this trait=>Adopted) And specializing in dealing blunt damage and hence dealing extra damage through these feats => Sap Adept and then Sap Master To do much more 'K.O' damage than normal.

Also, Pirahna Strike is a nice feat to add into this 'pugilist' style.

The bonus of Monks/Ninja being able to use 'Cestus' (A Roman 'boxing glove') which leaves the fingers free is added cream on the top. Since this is a weapon that the character can enchant for added effects.

Also am thinking of maybe adding in first the SPlintering Weapon Feat at low levels (By punching with Wshu Darts for 1d4 bleed damage then at higher levels taking the Feat (Which escapes me at this moment) where the amount of 'Sneak attack' damage dice is done as bleeding damage.

Then also adding in Bone Breaker at higher levels, just for that added theatrical effect.

The character's back ground will change depending upon which 'style' of combat the DM thinks will be the most fun to watch in their game, if chosen.

Thoughts? Comments? Feed back?

Very much cheers to all.

@Sunny: Are they both in your profile? If so I'll give them a look over shortly. My baby girl is sick so I've been coddling her all day. Which is nice cause she's only 3 and loathes letting me cuddle anymore :(

Awe. :( Sorry to hear about your little one's troubles. Wishing you and her all the very best.

Neither character has been created specifically for your game yet.

There is a version of the Fighter here Sunny Pugilist

The Sunny behind this avatar was being worked up to being a Magus/Monk hybrid experiment, but was not chosen for the game recruitment and so work was halted on the process.

Am happy to wait until your real life issues are all better. (^_^)

Very much wishing you and all yours the very best.

Feel free to build the characters sunny. Recruitment is still open til 11:59pm tonight. If anybody else is interested and hasn't submitted, that's the deadline.

@Kiwyn: yes to the weapon ring swap.

Good luck to all. Either way it looks like a fun campaign.

Zhan was originally created using a revolver. He had one via the Hierloom Weapon trait back before it was nerfed. Now, would he be able to have one as his free weapon? If not perhaps a pepperbox pistol? If firearms in general are a no go, I can always rebuild him using a repeating crossbow, as its a class weapon for the inquisitor.

I also wanted to ask if you'd be cool with the Zen Archer feat from 3.5?

@John: Good submission. I've got a lot of thinking to do when I pour over these characters.

@Zhan: I'm almost torn between my answer. While guns are in the setting, I think the repeating crossbow would be a better thematic fit. I will let you choose your own weapon, but if it's a firearm please include a good backstory for acquisition. Not that I wouldn't allow it either way, but inquisitor with a revolver would be fun to hear.

It's not letting me edit but yes, zen archery is fine. It's no different from weapon finesse really.

Okeys! Sunny teh Calistran Saracen is behind this avatar! (^_^)

Working on teh character now.

Hipt Point rolls:
1d12 + 3d8 + 12 + 3 ⇒ (5) + (3, 7, 3) + 12 + 3 = 33

Neither charcter will really have spending moneys spent. Getting everything else in working order first. Spendin' shinys can wait till I might get selected, hey? (^_~)

Again, very best wishes to all and big hugz teh GM Silverbane's little one. (^_^)

And the Fist-fighter will eventually be behind this one.

Hit Point rolls:
3d8 + 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (1, 8, 7) + (7, 1) + 3 = 27

Again, much cheers and good will to all.

*HUGZ* To GM Silverbane and theirs. (^_^)

Hello again, It is MisterLurch's submission with Meridian Anterian. Background is finished, though some equipment is still needing to be purchased. Real life can be a major pain in the rear. Hope this is good enough to make the deadline with.

Good luck to all.

Yes. You had your submission in with the crunch, so the background (although required) was just icing for the application. I am extremely late, but recruitment is now CLOSED! Making the final list now, and reviewing all characters.

Ok, so we had 9 submissions with a total of 10 characters. With only 6 slots, it was so hard to pick, because I felt like I might be offending the couple people I didn't pick. If I didn't pick you, it's not because I didn't like the character, I like all the characters too well. I picked who I did because I tried to keep balance with diverse and interesting cast. I am a new GM, and I'm going to do my best to make this a fun experience for all. The final list is as follows.

Kiwyn (Kitsune Wizard 5)
Sir Simon Ravencourt (Human Lore Warden Fighter 3/Flowing Monk 2)
Cliks "Robert" C'szek (Gillman Cleric 5)
Silent the Armorer (Dwarf Fighter 5)
Meridian Anterian (Tiefling Muskat Master 5)
Zhan (Human Inquisitor 5)

Those characters please go to the discussion thread and the campaign will start within the next day or so. Good luck to everyone with other campaign recruitments.
