Found my way onto the board! Weird to be logging in with your account though..

Addiz Abeba |

I edited my movement speed myself - it was incorrectly shown as 20 feet, but the 'easy travelling' armor treats medium encumbrance as light load. :-)

GM West |

Perfect! You can also find new pictures if you want. I did my best to find decent matches, but inevitably my own vision won't match those of the player. In order to find a new pic, click on My Account, then on Account Settings (annoyingly, it may force you to log in again, but I have my browser memorize all the information so all I have to do is click and let it autofill the information), and then scroll down to Messageboard Aliases, and click on the Edit link. There you can click on the Change button under the Avatar Image and select from any one of a good number of portraits. Unfortunately, you cannot import your own image.
And thanks for catching my mistake, Addiz! :)

Addiz Abeba |

Changed my Avatar! The one you selected was too cute ;-)

Addiz Abeba |

you missed a space between de minus-sign and the four? That's wat is different what I can see...
1d20 -4
1d20 - 4

Addiz Abeba |

LOL

Ferah Eytherae |

Which Ferah is talking here?

Addiz Abeba |

Testing my own rolls so I can do that fancy stuff as well:
[ dice=test roll] 1d20 + 12[/dice]
results in
test roll: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
hmmm... nice.

Addiz Abeba |

testing more, trying to find out how to cheat (because preview shows the roll result):
This is the inserted roll:
the new important roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 is this higher?
This was my first roll:
some important roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 this rolled an 11. If find this too low, so I try to fudge by putting another roll above and renaming the rolls.
Sooo....
The first roll in a post is fixed to the first roll of the post, not to the name or some such.
So if I want a different roll result I have to think of a reason to do another roll first.
Interesting... >:-)

Addiz Abeba |

Just a fair warning to all... rolls can be fudged a bit.

Addiz Abeba |

About low and miss chance: Isn't the basic rule 'higher is more successfull'? So a high roll on the miss chance is a hit?

GM West |

Not sure if there is a standard or not, actually. But yes, that's usually the way I play it, and when I roll the dice I show it as such:
Miss Chance (01-50) DRR: 1d100 ⇒ 98 = Hit!
Which shows that on a roll of 1 to 50, the attack is a miss.
That said, I've always allowed the player to call their miss chance as either high or low at the table - so long as I know what they prefer beforehand.

Addiz Abeba |

Re-reading the posts I believe that Ferah also wants a high roll to be a 'hit'.

GM West |

Apologies folks, RL is hitting me kinda hard right now. Rest assured this game will continue ever onward, but the pace is going to be a bit slow for the next couple months or so. I know you are way overdue for a new post, but please bear with me, and thanks!

GM West |

Ugh, I'm going to admit I'm a bit burned out with this adventure - despite the fact you're getting close to the end! The biggest problem is that I sometimes feel like I'm NPCing half the party sometimes.
At the moment I do not have that excuse, since I think I've got everyone's posted action, save for Tendang.
Let me think a bit on how I want to handle this. Quite honestly, I hate to outright kill PCs in order to write them out, but I might have to do exactly that for Tendang and possibly Anariel. Then I'll just plan to make my own posts after everyone else has posted, whether it takes a few days or two or three weeks and not bother with the idea of NPCing anyway.
In any case, I will try to get a post up this weekend, before I head out of town on Tuesday. Thanks for your patience folks!

Addiz Abeba |

I sent Tendang's player an e-mail on the two mailadresses I have of him (he was also GM Clearwater @ d20worldofgreyhawk). I hope he still uses these - I haven't mailed with him for years.

GM West |

OK, I found this page on 'Invisible' creatures (which is effectively the current situation) that I hope will help me moderate this combat and give you all an idea of how to fight effectively. Note that 'Spot' is not a viable method in this situation, only 'Listen'.
Basically, you'll get a Listen check as a free action each round to figure out its general direction. If the spider is fighting that round, the DC is 0. If it's sneaking around, the check is opposed by its Move Silently skill check.
If you beat 0 by less than 20, you know it's general location and I'll roll d4 with a 1 as the result needed to pinpoint the correct square(s), because it's so damn big (normally I'd roll a d8). If you beat the DC by 20 or more, you have pinpointed the exact square.
If the spider attacks you with reach, I'll again roll d4, if it's without reach you have pinpointed the square.
If someone pinpoints the square correctly (and makes a successful attack to confirm their estimate), everyone gets +5 circumstance bonus to their Listen checks until the spider moves away from its current location.
If you attack the correct square, you have a 50% miss chance.
If you use a ranged weapon or spell into a pinpointed square with allies between you and the target, only a fumble will cause you to strike an ally. If you make the same kind of attack into the general area and the d4 results in a miss, you have a straight up 50% chance to strike an ally.

GM West |

Good to hear from you Ferah!
Now that the boards are back up and hopefully stable, I'm eager to continue this adventure with the folks we have left. Will give another couple weeks to hopefully hear from everyone, then decide who will continue on, and who will be lost...

Addiz Abeba |

Go Ferah! :D

GM West |

That works just fine, Ferah!
However, you can edit your post to include the crit roll if you'd like, so long as you put it AFTER your original roll - which makes sense anyway.
Paizo remembers your rolls, whether you use Submit or Preview. What I often do is use Preview to determine if attacks hit or not, then roll damage if needed, then further attacks, etc.
Been a busy week for me, but I hope to update this adventure early this week, hopefully by Wednesday at latest.

Ferah the White Lion |

West, I'll doublecheck later in the week (my team leader and my manager are on leave this week, and whenever there's a problem I'm one of the two people the rest of the company have been told to go to to fix it whilst they're away), but I think I've already got my level-up info in my character sheet thread on World of Greyhawk.

GM West |

Totally missed that the level-up was for Primeval, Ferah - sorry about that, I must have thought it was for your most recent level up for some reason. Here is your hit dice roll...
Primeval (d10) HD roll: 1d10 ⇒ 10
Nice!!!

GM West |

Sorry for delay folks, life has been a bit bumpy of late and I'm hoping to get back into a regular posting pattern again soon. Might not be until after the first of the year, but I'll be posting during the holiday season for sure - just a bit irregularly. Thanks for your patience!

GM West |

Folks, things have gone from bumpy to... much more so. I'll not be giving up on posting entirely, I've been GMing pbp for 20+ years and won't give up this easily. But I don't think I've got it in me to moderate until after the holidays. Sorry for the brief hiatus, but keep checking in and we'll pick things up again in January.

Addiz Abeba |

Take your time, West. Sometimes the game called life has other plans with you. With the pace we've been giving you, you can certainly take some time off to spend it on more serious stuff.

GM West |

Thanks Addiz, this is certainly a trying time in my life. But let's kick of the new year with some gaming! We'll see how my posting schedule pans out in the weeks and months ahead. It might increase with more time on my hands, or it might drop if I just don't have the mental energy or willpower to do any writing. We'll find out together!
For now, let me know how you handle the room before you. It's certainly creepy enough...

GM West |

I'm sorry for the delay everyone, there's some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel though and I hope to get back to some semblance of regular posting in the next few weeks.
I'm not one that normally unloads my woes on people, but I'll go ahead and do it anyway. Basically my life is in chaos right now. My wife and I have separated after 25 years of marriage, I've been looking to get out of the hotel I'm in and into an apartment (just got one yesterday, so that's one obstacle down) and work is ugly with tax season in the early stages of making life miserable for me during the day. Because of the housing situation, I've taken up a second job driving for Uber, which is great because it's on my own schedule, but alas it's usually busiest during the hours when I like to post.
That said, I think I've about nailed down a schedule that will allow me time on the boards in the late afternoon, early evening hours now that I'm not feverishly looking for my own place. I'll probably start doing my driving after the rush hour crowd dies down a bit and go until late, which actually seems to be a fairly busy time period in my area.
Anyway, just wanted to let you all know where my head has been of late, and to reassure you that I'm still around and fully intend to get back into my usual posting schedule of a couple times a week when possible, especially when my players post quickly. It may take me a bit of time to get there, probably until April 15th, as a matter of fact! But over the next couple months I hope to start posting at least once a week or every 10 days at the very worst. That'd be a good start, considering my pace over the past few months...

GM West |

OK folks, I'm settled into my new place and I'm feeling pretty good again - all things considered. I'm planning to start my new schedule of posting during the late afternoon in the coming week. I do hope you are all still around and watching this adventure thread. I'm very eager to start this adventure up again, along with the other three I'm running on the Paizo board.
Thanks again to all of you for your patience with an absent GM. Let's get this game rolling again! :)

GM West |

I should have anticipated this week being busy for me as I finished furnishing my apartment as bits and pieces arrived from Amazon - I'm tired of assembling furniture! But fortunately I'm finishing that process up today. Unfortunately, this week has gotten away from me. Let's shoot for a fresh start next week. I'm going to do my very best to hold myself to this promise, folks!

GM West |

Major apologies for how long it took me to get around to posting here. I'm having a rough time adjusting to my new situation, but I'll try to be a bit more consistent. Hopefully we get our two fighters back to join us!

GM West |

Arg, I'm sorry folks I'm just having a rough time working up the willpower to keep this adventure going. It's not fair to those of you that have persevered so long I know, but the three of you can't survive alone and I don't want to NPC the missing any more.
Also, the adventure can end in this room with you all solving the riddle of how to close the gate to the Abyss permanently, which is how I'm going to narrate it in order to bring this one to a close.
If any of you aren't involved in either of my RttToEE adventure, I invite you to join that one. Addiz, I'm pretty sure you aren't there and the party could use a fighter type of rogue like yourself - and you're a perfect level. They do already have one rogue, a gnome, but I think you'd work well together. Check it out if you'd like and let me know.
I'll be finishing this adventure in a narrative fashion very soon and awarding XP to the three of you at the same time. Again, please forgive me for bringing this one to a crashing halt - though at least there will be resolution for those of you that have seen it through. Thanks!

Addiz Abeba |

Hi West,
Sorry to see this happening, but I understand your position and predicament: three players left in a place where adding more PCs is hard to make believable!
As you know I am also not very active lately, but to stop completely - that's a big step to make for me, I would miss it dearly anyway - and miss Addiz, of course :P
So yes, if you could help me to get Addiz into the RttToEE adventure, that would be awesome!
It might spark a new flurry of activity from me, I hope.
Cheers,
Ruud

GM West |

Sweet! Consider it done!! Also, don't worry about your slower pace, as that is the slowest of my three adventures I'm running. The other two move almost faster than I can keep up! I'll get you written into the adventure as quickly as I can, Addiz. I'll post here and PM you when I'm ready to introduce you. :)

Tomak Sunshadow |

Sorry, I monitored the Gameplay thread on and off, but missed this Discussion-thread. If you need another PC, I'm interested to continue elsewhere in your games, GM West. I've got a handful of PCs to chose from. I'll send you a PM.
