They never released Pre-Gens for the Occult Iconics, did they??
An Occultist, Spiritualist, or even Medium would not be a bad choice.
I don't think I've ever seen the Inquisitor pre-gen in play, but she'd be good here, too, as might the Investigator.
The Cleric, OTOH, I've seen enough of to frankly have grown bored with her.

Kaervek is here, too! :-D
Thank you, Grandmaster TOZ!

If Oria is also still with us (let's give them a little time to find out we continue), do we even need a pregen? I believe we could simply continue with the 4 player adjustment, right?
Oria
|
Oh wow, we're back in business! Thank you very much for volunteering to fill in, TOZ!
Oria hasn't been through any Blackros scenarios on this character, but I've had my fair share on others. Certainly some worth a replay...
In terms of support from pregens? Kyra is the common pick, but we could also go with a front line defender. As I recall, Oria had to stand up front and she isn't exactly optimized for tanking. We're also short on rogue skills? Hmmm.

Kaervek played only one: #03-07 Echos of the Overwatched.
Regarding party composition, we are not quite optimized:
- Shaman 6
- Psychic 6
- Sorcerer 6
- Wizard 3
I think we really could do with another frontliner...

Blakros adventures, this character? I'm fairly sure not.

Someone with muscle and guile is what we could use, so a Cavalier, Gunslinger, Hunter, Inquisitor, Medium, Monk, Occultist, Ranger, Samurai, Skald, Slayer, Swashbuckler...or Vigilante?!?

Since we’re at four, I don’t think we can bring along an NPC. If Skorn wants to keep going with the replay, that will keep us at five but doesn’t solve the melee deficiency. It will certainly be interesting!
Oria, we're a full party. Time to go back to tanking!

Kinda hate to say it, but I LOL'd.

Well, Kaervek can do a bit of crowd control: entangle, stone call and a high initiative modifier (+9) should help against us squishy casters being charged. And there's also a summon monster II spell in his spellbook, but it doesn’t last very long at CL 3... should he go and buy a scroll of summon monster III?

All I can really say is, I wouldn't.

Anyone else ever read Incredible Hulk #1? The guy on slide #1 there reminds me of The Gargoyle.
Also, I love how that site has "Enlarged Head" as its very own category.

Because I was only in one other game I left my browser on that game and did not see that this has restarted until that other game ended. If you guys need me and the GM is good with it I will jump back in. But also fine not to do so.

Party, I just want to make sure you've been following my innuendoes to you, having passed both checks to do so with flying colors (surely you'll agree at least the first one was "simple", DM)?
Xanac Candledark

BTW, folks, Bluff-to-innuendo mechanics would indicate you would all have understood what I was trying to say simply because I'd made the requisite roll.
Also, I have to ask: How did a 5th-level Cleric cast a 4th-level spell?
Kaervek the Spiteful

Wow, that's some quality wizard loot there! :-O
If Kaervek survives this scenario, he'll have a boatload of rolls to make to learn all these spells from the spellbook. ^_^
Oria

Question! How long has it been since the start of the session, in-universe time? I'm probably gonna want to refresh Oria's barkskin if I have to.

I've taken the liberty of moving everyone else's tokens to the other side of the lower-left door on Slide #5, since I am guessing the bulk of that slide is where we (or rather, everyone else) are still trying to get INTO; I hope I am correct.

I have to admit that I do not understand what is going on....
The party has gone downstairs in the Blakros Museum at the request of Nigel Aldain, the curator, to follow the intruder that broke in to steal the beacon of Ralzeros. Lady Imrizade Blakros was also downstairs chasing after the intruder, and Candledark can see she is on the floor of the storage area.
The storage room was barred from the inside, but Candledark was able to use gasous form to get inside and open the door. This allowed the summoned creatures to see the party and initiate combat. The room is currently in darkness except for the corner with the beacon. The party has also heard spellcasting somewhere in the room, most likely from the intruder.

I think even with the expeditious retreat, that's a little too far with both the difficult terrain and avoiding the stealth penalty.
Let's figure this out:
Expeditious retreat says it "increases your base land speed by 30 feet", period. No mention (to my own surprise!) of being limited by base movement speeds of less than 30 feet, so that's a speed of 50 feet.
As for the Stealth skill, it says "When moving at a speed greater than half but less than your normal speed, you take a -5 penalty. It’s impossible to use Stealth while attacking, running, or charging" - weirdly, it appears to be silent on what happens when you try to move AT your speed.
I counted 9 squares (45 feet) of movement. If I could've gone the full 50, I probably would've even if it meant a larger penalty (since it would've meant I could get around that corner there - am I correct that weird specimen there is higher ground or otherwise harder to pass?). I factored in the -5 penalty to my roll; I was NOT trying to avoid the penalty altogether, if that is what you were assuming.
EDIT: Oh, and difficult terrain: OH, OK, the tentacles are such, so that much is true. Let me know what you think of the above, but I can fix that much right now.
EDIT+: Fixed; let me know if you'd let me take that 10th square, which would permit me to end up one more square away from the Grioths.
The grapple prevents all movement, so it would take an action to break Oria free, opposed by the tentacles CMD.
Would you rule that chain of perdition can do that at all? It's certainly an unconventional use for it.*
If so, that could still work: It could free her, and she could leave under her own power.
If not, well, that would simplify things for me.
* = I forget when or where, but one of the devs explained it was chiefly inspired by both Jacob Marley and Ghost Rider, as a way to use combat maneuver shenanigans against entities you normally couldn't (as an aside, I think "Marley" as an undead monster type of its own would be a cool and totally workable thing to see in a game - heck, one of the Bestiaries got La Llorona in there!).
| Grandmaster TOZ |
I was going to give it as an option, the unfortunate part is that she didn't get a chance to take advantage of it before the next grapple check. :(
That move does look within reason, the other unfortunate part is their blindsight will likely make him a target before he's ready. XP Them being elevated might be the difference that saves him.

Bummer; is there some way we could get around that? I'm at the bottom of the round, so I guess my delaying couldn't help, BUT what if Oria did?
Also, whatever happened to refocusing initiative or whatever it's called? Does that simply not exist anymore in 3.75/Pathfinder? Seems like an odd thing to remove.
Xanac Candledark

The party would be able to delay and ready actions, but unfortunately the black tentacles and the Garundi caster aren't going to cooperate.
I was just thinking, if Oria delayed in the round until after me, then my chainrope of perdition could free her, and THEN she could make a run for it before the next grapple check.
I have 6 more channels so can keep us alive for a few more rounds. Maybe my fire will do something. Expect the tentacles to last at least 7 rounds.
If I'm not mistaken, your Channeling will heal substantially more than the tentacles will deal in a round, so I'd not necessarily Channel EVERY round - more like 1/2?

With magic missiles flying I had to quick channel to save Kaervek. Channel will average 14. Tentacles are doing 10+
The real issue is our party balance is poor. This is a replay for me. I am only here to try to keep you guys alive.
