Hello, everyone!
I've asked GM Kevin O'Rourke whether he's okay with having not one, but two new players, and he agreed. I think I've played with everyone of you at some point in the past or in the present, and it's been fun. I hope I can contribute to a good game, and we can have some fun together!
I noticed that the party is excellent in the magical and knowledges department, as well as in the knowledges department, so is there a particular niche that might need filling before I come up with a concept?
I also noticed that the party is a lot more of a practical, rather than heroic bent, so that's something I'm looking forward as well.

Hi TLC! Excited to have you! You'll recognize this character from that evil Kingmaker game. But Johund's not really evil. Mostly.
You should totally play something you like, but if you're looking for suggestions, it'd be useful to have someone with skills. Or maybe I'm just salty about warpriest's 2+Int skills.

Hello TLC/Eddwick! I play Agyen in SW's Slumbing Tsar game.
As for characters, play what appeals to you. I wouldn't be upset about more skills or divine magic, but really, anything is a plus.

Hey, Wicked! I do remember that game, even if I think it was more nasty than evil. And I had such an eloquent swashbuckler, too.
That being said, I think that I'll try and go for something a little crazier, it being a mounted build - there's a precious few of those around, and I imagine there's rarely a better opportunity than in Kingmaker. And then I had a concept about a particular man...
Jethro Tuggs' day started like most others. Waking up, sore from yesterday's labour at the new addition to the lord's manor. He stretched, stifling a yawn, dusting away the sand from his hair. Fine marble dust and plaster stuck to his breeches as he shuffled down from his bed, giving a glance at the bursting street below.
His small, almost cramped apartment was filled to the brim with pots and planters. A ruffling down at his ankles jerked him up, seeing a wounded old mouser purring with the rumble, quite reminiscent of that of the sawmill. Jethro scratched his head, still unsure of the cat's reaction. Sure, Mouser (Jethro was never good with creative names) was relatively tame, and he did feed him often, and he didn't bother petting him all too often. This social reaction was a little confusing, Jethro though, then shrugged. Animals will be animals, he reassured himself, moving to pour the cat a fresh pot of water and toss him the leftovers from his yesterday's meal.
Most of the labourers and masons, working with Jethro would often say he's a quiet man, who seemingly tries his phrases in his mouth before muffling them out. Yet, they'd add, they've never knew a better craftsman, be it for carpentry, masonry, or even the finer craft of architecture. The last one, usually away from the actual architects themselves. Really nice to animals, too.
Jethro, on the other side, would affirm that his colleagues are nice professionals. He never bothered them unless he needed to, and he often found they rarely shared his more rural interests. Putting on his coat and cap, he glanced back at Mouser, then, scratching his head, muttered on his way out. "I'll be back tonight, I guess. You come by if you want, I might have more food." The cat stared back with one intact eye, then rolled on the ground on his back like a kitten third its size as Jethro closed the door.
Very polite, too, if a little short of words, his colleagues would often say.
-------------------------------------
"I want the floral garden there, surrounding the paved road.", the Lord demanded, pointing towards a patch in the garden, planted on dirt packed by boots for almost five generations. The Lord's demands were usually quite reasonable for a man of his stature, but he wasn't the best at organising a construction site. Jethro, as the head of construction, glanced calmly at the gardener and horticulturist. "And I want the kennels sitting there.", the lord added, pointing at a patch of the manor's grounds, notoriously shady, drafty and damp. Jethro threw another glance at the manor's seneschal, the woman who he knew would take the brunt of the multiple issues. The rest remained quiet, as the Lord was glancing over the gardens with confidence and pose, despite his lacking structural skills. Jethro gave a glance at the Lord's hound, which tilted its head sympathetically to his issue.
Jethro knew he had to say something, for the Lord's own sake. Nobody wants an unpleasant parade entrance, right? Scratching his head, he pondered for a way to phrase to the Lord how his idea was good, but perhaps he should reconsider. Turning the words in his mouth, he rubbed a calloused hand under his chin. "That's a bit stupid of a placement, I think.", he uttered calmly, only for the look of sheer shock on the faces around him to suggest he might've gotten the wording a little wrong.
The Lord's face, wash with surprise, quickly flushed with anger, as he took a menacing step forward. Hand instintively reaching for his sword, the Lord's decade ingrained instincts thankfully suggested that to cut down an unarmed commoner would be as if cutting his own hand. Instead, he resolved to laying a brutal backhand at Jethro, as his ring-covered hand tore at his face. Jethro, having received a blow twice as hard in a friendly bout at the tavern the other day, still was quick enough to fall to the ground and cry out, if a little unconvincingly.
"Sorr...", the builder started saying, as the Lord's fuming mouth pointed at him, snarling at the hound, "Go!" The dog snarled, biting its teeth deeply into the lord's right hand, as the Lord screamed in pain. Reading the situation with uncharacteristic speed, Jethro leapt on his feet, rushing through the troves of people on the way out. Seeing his neighbour and colleague on the way, he ushered his out of the way mid-run. "Don't use the Kyonin marble on the staircase! Make sure the hedge is not taller than seven paces!", he shouted, holding his hand on his hat as he kept running, disappearing on the road towards town. "And feed my cat!"
-------------------------------------
Stopping to take a break a few minutes later, Jethro sat down, quickly reconsidering his options. The town, he'd be caned, beaten, and worse - unemployed. Going back and apologising profusely would probably work, but not after the poor dog mauled a Swordlord's dueling hand in his defense. The road, surrounded by the thick trees of the Restov, had no third option. Coming close to panicking for the first time in his so-far-calm life, Jethro closed his eyes, until nothing but the rustling of the wilderness filled him, an ushering, beckoning sound. After all, the deer and the creatures in there managed to survive. Why wouldn't he be able to. And there's less dust, and it always smelled so enticing and wondrous, unlike the big town.
Breathing in the fresh forest air, Jethro Tulls stepped into the woodlands and vanished.
Wooh. I got carried waaay too far here. The concept is of a city man, getting caught in the vines of the human jungle, and embracing his natural side. The mechanics will be a Nature Fang Druid (I think I recall the archetype name right), focused on mounted combat.
Skill-wise, he'd be mostly aimed at Survival, Ride and Handle Animal, with his background skills, being especially apt at Profession(builder) and Profession(mason). He sees no reason why nature and people can't get together, as long as one side listens to what the other has to say. And he does still like building houses/huts/mansions/castles, as long as people listen to his opinion, and don't put the drainage system in the drinking water.
I'm planning him with a Roc companion (called Beaky), since that's amazing, but that's mostly pending GM approval. If that's not an option, he'll probably go for a Megaloceros (called Antlers) or something else that is mountable. (and with a similarly unimaginatively descriptive name)
Personality-wise, he's a very calm man, prone to staring at both buildings and nature with similar studious interest, as well as having the habit of tapping them and either slightly scoffing, or slightly grunting. He's prone to giving his mind.
I see him as wanting to join the party since he's starting to miss civilisation a bit, and wanted to see who's been traipsing around the Grasslands. After all, if there's going to be settlements in here, someone oughta build 'em, and if you build 'em to last, you don't have to go mining and logging as often. If he was in more modern days, he'd have a mug with 'Sustainable Urban Development' on it.

I do love good comic understatement. :)
Also, if Roc works level-wise, I have no objection to it.
electricjokecascade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16 |
Hey guys, GM Kevin's agreed to have me jump on board, and now I'm trying to come up with something fun and different to play. I was toying with a CN halfing Titan Mauler barbarian, but something about the character (as much as I love her icon) isn't clicking for me just yet.
I'll report back in soon!

Hey, EJC!
I'm happy you enjoyed the story. I got Jethro's alias here (or what will be it in a while, when I start digging through the books.)
I kind of like the portrait. He does look as if he's thinking to himself,Yup, that's a load-bearing wall, right here., but I'm not sure about the miner's lantern. But, again, he also is the kind of guy who wouldn't bother nature for light magic, when there's honest to Erastil lamp oil in the saddlebags.
EDIT: Checked the CCreation requirements, rolls below.
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 4) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 5) = 8
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 5) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 6) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 6) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 1) = 13
Yup. 20 point buy is considerably better than 8 point buy. Judging by the post earlier, it's 8,000 gp and ABP, as well as a legacy extra feat? (yay, ABP!) I'll get onto building.

Hey all, EJC here introducing Belladonna Lindenbrook, a CN Barbarian who rides into battle atop her giant corgi Loaf Cake (a reskinned worg*.) DM, how much are you looking for in terms of background/personality/etc?
*DM, if you'd rather the worg not be reskinned for aesthetic effect, she can just ride a plain ol' worg called Loaf Cake ;)
Jethro Tuggs |
Did someone say teamwork feats for chargers? I did. I said it.
Also, I looked at the mounts for druids, and while the Roc is great, I kind of dislike the Undersized Mount feat. Feels rather too cheesy for me.
If reskins are possible, can I flavour a horse as a large elk? The elk is only large at 7, and I like the idea of the 'druid of the community' the players guide suggests. The only change can be the bite flavoured as a gore, it nothing changed in terms of stats.
Also. Dire corgi. I am giggling.
Amadeen Irian |
Personally, I prefer to keep character background to a few paragraphs and grow the character in play. Not to have their past be more interesting than their future and all.
Belladonna Lindenbrook |
There - swapped out the bracers +1 and the mithral kikku armor for a set of rhino hide, which gives me +2d6 to all charging attacks.
Also went ahead and spent the last of my cash on Feather Step slippers for Sugar Loaf. All the better to protect his paws with.
Thanks, Eluvias!

Oh, I rather am looking forward to the expanded Queen's Companions. :D

Ugh. The dreaded post monster ate my modification on Antlers, so that's been set back. I'll get that up in a couple of hours. And definitely grabbing that wayfinder, that's an amazing idea for the headlamp!
And, damn, that Rhino Hide is amazing. I might grab a set of it as well, come to think of it, unless I find something else that strikes my fancy.
Jethro Tuggs |
Right, I think Jethro's statblock is now complete.
I got Antlers a set of fine dragonscale barding (I could technically get metal, but I'm still a druid. And it chafes, I guess). I also sprung and gave him a set of Muleback Cords and I nabbed a Heavy Wagon. In the event we need to carry something in excess of, say, several tons. The elk's current heavy load is sitting at a comfortable 4,200 lbs, which can then be increased by the cart(s).
I think I've gone in full construction mode, it must be the Kingmaker getting to me.
GM Kevin O'Rourke |
The restrictions on druids and metal don't really hold up super well to scrutiny. The idea of them refusing to use worked material falls at the hurdle of the leather/hide is cured, but smelting is more advanced... fine, seems like a weird line but ok... but then they are allowed run around in studded leather which has metal in it?
Amadeen Irian |
I agree that it makes more sense as a voluntary or symbolic restriction.
Jethro Tuggs |
Hey Jethro, want to kick off some spoilered rp while we wait to get introduced? Maybe our meeting up in the wilds of something?
Absolutely! I'll put my thoughts to words in a bit!

It's the whole conversation about 'getting back to nature' and all that. Where does it end? Boots? Stones or sticks? Going around completely naked?
Eh. I don't mind it, since it's some sort of leftover from the ancient times of the 1980s. I just thought that the elk would wear something more druidic as well, so I paid the extra for the dragonscale.
As for the symbolism, Jethro probably won't be wearing it, "Because it chafes something awful."
Amadeen Irian |
I finally thought to update Amadeen for ABP rules!
L1-L2: ----
L3: Resistance +1
L4: Armor attunement +1 (silken ceremonial armour), weapon attunement +1 (light crossbow)
L5: Deflection +1
Johund Struckland |
We're using ABP, so I don't think that +1 leather armor, +1 whip, and ring of deflection +1 should exist. Items can be masterwork, though, and the potions should still work as normal.
Also, Belladonna is terrifying. Good job!
Amadeen Irian |
To all my games, two pieces of news:
1) I'm currently job hunting, though that is going well. That said, I might have less free time than usual.
2) I'll be at a gaming convention this weekend, so I'll likely be less active online.
Belladonna Lindenbrook |
Bella is happy to go wherever.
What do you think, GM? Are Bella and Jethro too OP with all their mounted charging goodness? Should we ditch our rhino hides, for example, or find other ways to take things down a notch?
Amadeen Irian |
For what it's worth, I think they're just damn effective!
Given some of our prior fights, Belladonna and Jethro are going to have their work cut out for them later. ;)
GM Kevin O'Rourke |
I appreciate the self concern but you wont always be outside. Eluvias also deals some powerful hits and raised some concerns a while back about himself... not that Johund is a slouch either but Eluvias gets some terrifying crits.
The armour is great for now but eventually might get overshadowed by other options and the damage doesn't scale up as you go. I might tweak up the hit points of a few significant NPCs so the fights are a bit more satisfying. Right now it's random encounters so you guys are usually entering each fight fresh with all abilities.
Eluvias the Grim |
* HP: +8
* BaB: +1
* ABP: +2 Intelligence (gives +1 AC)
* Skills: +7 (will choose later)
* Saves: +1 Fort/Will/Ref
* Arcana: Close Arcana (The magus can deliver ray spells that feature a ranged touch attack as melee touch spells. He can use a ranged touch attack spell that targets more than one creature (such as scorching ray), but he makes only one melee touch attack to deliver one of these ranged touch effects; additional ranged touch attacks from that spell are wasted and have no effect. These spells can be used with the spellstrike class feature.)
* +1 Lvl 0 Spell (Ray of Frost!)
* +1 Lvl 1 Spell (now 4x shocking grasp)
* +1 Lvl 2 Spell (Scorching Ray! Will prepare 3x per day)
Maximizing damage output.
Now he has 4x Shocking Grasp attacks (1d6+12+6d6 electricity)
3x Scorching Ray (1d6+12+4d6 Fire)
Unlimited Ray of Frost (1d6+12+1d3)
Also 7x per day he can enchant his blade for +2 enchantment. Usually will be keen and +1d6 elemental damage of some sort.
If he can reach combat, he’ll be able to do some damage. Won’t bother anymore with cat’s grace, will go for straight damage potential.
