I don't think i can keep up with you guys, and I'm having a hard time following along in combat.
Did Telethal do anything at all in combat? It seems to have resolved with a few folks being dragged off, but I couldn't' check back to the thread until it had already happened. I'm surprised that could happen before Telethal could close on them, but then, maybe I'm missing something.
I'm not trying to be dense, and I'm trying to be patient, but at the end of the day, I just don't seem to have the posting capacity to keep up with you guys.

I am pretty sure that you got at least one decent attack in. The combat was bloody chaotic, and hopefully will be better the next one that we come into. I would hate to see you fall to the wayside of the campaign, your character interests me, and the whole concept of an elven barbarian is most certainly intriguing.
None of us can force you to stay, all we can do is ask you to do so.
So this is Talon, asking you with all due respect to tough it out, and bear with this group

The slower pace of action in PbP makes split parties more difficult and you rolled a 4 for initiative. That made the round 2 retreat of the frogs well before Telethal could act. You ran 3x speed down the road round 1 but couldn't close in time. I would keep Telethal closer to the front, he is the true beef. It turned out that the 20 minutes of pen and paper D&D you missed turned into lots of PbP posts. If this game is not for you, I can understand. If the posting rate was slower you may have waited a week to get into the action.

i had a hard time following combat though i think after a few more encounters we will get used to the format. i have work and uni and i cant always post regularly, but stick with it if you can it looks like its going to be good and worth it.

It's not a table game. I'd encourage people to stick with it. We'll find our flow if we just keep at it. The first part was great. This will be, too. Don't give up because our first real encounter is a little confusing. It usually is. PbP is just a little different, that's all.
I don't use grids in my PbP games because I'm so bad at it. Give it time. We'll figure it out, and there's nothing wrong with asking if something's not clear.

Aye, it helps that I have no job, no real commitments till monday, and so can spend most of the day online and not have to do a lot. Plus, I like writing, and will happily post a lot.
We will eventually find out flow with this, it will just take a little time is all. All of us are finding our feet with the game, and finding out the limits of what we can do and all. Plus, with Marlamin gone, that's going to shake the dynamic up a lot. We began this journey together, what say you we finish it together eh?

THis is my first pbp so maybe I'm out of line, but might it help to have a standard format to mark turns? just as an example it could be like
====>Kalthos' Turn<====
Seltyn>Elorin>bad guys>Kalthos>Talon
On my turn, if bad guy x has not moved somehwere i might provoke an attack of opportunity from I'll move to square a1 and attack bad guy yif bad guy x has moved in the way then i'll do this that and the other
It'd be really nice to have something very visibile on the page to make it clear exactly what happened/willhappen during people's turns. I'm not sure if it would help, but it might!

Perhaps it might be an idea to use a system where Chainmail asks for all our actions, we post them. Then he gives us a summary of the round, and asks for the next rounds actions. That way we can post in whatever order we like, and all Chainmail needs to do is a quick summary of what happens in the round.

I'm still here, and I'm not dropping.
This isn't actually my first pbp. I'm in a few at the moment.
Sorry I've been scarce over the last few days. I've had my boy with me (18 months).
Also, sometime yesterday, Chainmail said Telethsl was holding up the party due to his armor, but his speed is 30 even in armor... usually it's 40. Did I miss something?
Chainmail |
I apologized for missing that in the main thread.
I just assumed Telethal had heavy armor for some reason--that is why I quoted the rule for running in heavy armor. I thought it applied to Telethal. Anyway, I have tried to fix this mistake, it probably won't be the last.
Funny, my main character is a barbarian--I don't know what happened there.
Chainmail |
One of my friends was one of those crazy guys that ran a blacksmith forge, made his own weapons and armor, and dueled with people on the weekends. He claimed armor was harder to run with than Paizo did. His house rule was medium armor was limited to 3x speed, and heavy armor did not allow running. I try not to let house rules leak into PbP, but this one apparently was still in my mind.
It is funny, he loved dwarves and claimed they could do anything. I think he allowed dwarves to reduce their armor type one level when running.

Yes, let's not forget what this is all really about. Let's not lose sight of our mildly racist guiding light. :P It's about beating those damnably clumsy simple oafs. Couldn't climb a tree as far as my granny! earthbound little sots.
(granted hatred between sub-races of elves is barbaric, as I'm sure it is between humans :P)

Well, bad rolls are bad rolls... nothing we can do about that but find ways to max out our perception and stealth modifiers.
Though I do agree that figuring out who our best strategist is and letting them either do battlefield commands or suggest them to Seltyn.
I'm all about a firm chain of command based on merit... even if we are elves. :)
Talon Moonwalker |
Until we get things like Headbands of Wisdom etc, I cannot boost my perception any higher than it already it. As far as my combat utility goes, if I can get a composite longbow sorted out, then I will have an extra 15% damage for free with every hit, increasing to 25% if using Point Blank Shot. However, that means asking for the bow, as I cannot currently afford it, unless we find it in loot.
Seltyn leads us well, and as a character I like the guy. Not sure how much the character knows about battlefield command, but that is something that I would like to RP out at some point as a discussion between Talon and Seltyn.
Stealth is usually one that we do ok on. What really worries me right now is that we really ran too deep in on too many things at once. We could have handled the crocs and the frogs alone, or even the croc and the apes, but to have frogs and croc and apes is seriously testing our resources I think.
Also, the fact that we had Marlamin swamped and taken out in the first round more or less really didn't help, as we lost 20% of the parties actions possible. I was able to recoup that with rapid shot a little, but with Ingwe now also possibly dead, I really think the best thing for us to do would be to RUN!
