In my opinion the pacing is good, although now a little too slow. The GM needs to reply to posts as and when posts are made that directly reference him or the NPC's, otherwise the whole pace slows down a lot. Also, can we please have a post more or less summarising where the heck we are? It seems to be a case of at one stage we were on the boat and heading to the human city, and now all of a sudden we are back in the home port and having this big old ceremony. The ceremony itself I believed to already have been described, but perhaps not.
Whilst the first night of the game was rather chaotic, the game had an energy that it has lacked since then. Not a criticism, more an observation. Posting does need to pick up a little. Velesia hasn't posted in a while, I am thinking that it might be an idea to assume that Talon will be taking the canoe ride and leave it at that, if only to get the story moving again.

Telethal the Halfblood |

In my opinion, the pace is fine. The pbp's i've been in have a moderate pace that ebbs and flows with everyone's availability (DM's included). From my experience, long-running PbP's (and this one seems to have that goal) are marathons, not sprints. There will be times when it moves faster - especially around combats - but there will be times when it lulls. That's okay as long as people are still engaged. That' snot to say I want it to go way slower - that can be the death of a pbp, but so can setting expectations too aggressively.
I think this thing will only stay together and moving forward as long as people are enjoying it; this includes the DM. So let us know what you're comfortable with in terms of posting rate, Chainmail, and we can make decisions at that point.
As to the initial feel of the game versus what we have now. i think that's the natural progression of things. People were chomping at the bit to play when the game thread first went up, and now we're settling into a rhythm... as long as people can post one or a couple times per day, I think that's fine.
Just my opinions. Take'em or leave 'em, but I probably own't have much more of a posting rate per day than you've seen from me up to this point. I'm enjoying the game, I just have other things in my life and can only hit the boards once or twice a day during the week (weekends are spotty).

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

I think we're ok. 2 of us are on GMT, so 4 or 5 hours ahead of me here in US EST. As long as we visit the thread once or twice a day, we're good. Weekends tend to be spotty, but if you can drop in, go ahead and look it over and get caught up. If you don't have much to do, some comment or roleplay keeps it fun.

Mise en scene:
SCENE: The CHARACTERS board a boat as the queen speaks.
LADY CIEDREL: They say the time of the fair race is at an end...(Exposition to reveal their dire straits)
CLOSEUP: MARLAMIN, the wood elf, coaxes INGWE MALMSTEEN, the leopard, onto the boat with a fish.
CLOSEUP: WINDFAVOR regards them all with a wary, fish-like eye.
PAN: The boat embarks.
THE CHARACTERS plan their encounter with the human village, with SELTYN SEVENLEAF, the wizard, talking their ears off.
SCENE: SELTYN and TALON stand before the LADY.
LADY: You have been chosen to lead this band. Talon will take over, should you fall.
PAN: TALON is way studlier than SELTYN.
SCENE: A MONTAGE encompassing 6 months. It's like 3 weeks to a human, or 4 years to a leopard.
CUT: IT'S A F$*#^&#n montage!
SCENE: A PARTY AT THE PALACE before THE CHARACTERS leave.
CLOSEUP: ELORIN SILENTALL is onstage, dressed provocatively, singing a song to thunderous applause. As the crowd goes wild, she looks straight at WINDFAVOR. He looks like he might be smiling, and claps politely.
(Women notice his change of heart. Men watch for the cleavage.)
CLOSEUP: VELESIA SHADESTEP smiles at the old aquatic elf-guy, and they share a moment. She's smokin', but not as glamorous as Elorin. She prefers to not be noticed at all.
CUT: THE CHARACTERS stand before the LADY.
(VOICEOVER: THE LADY) You are here and represent the best of us...
PAN: THE CHARACTERS, looking serious as the LADY speaks, INTERCUT with CLOSEUPS of each, even INGWE.
(More exposition. This is not the cloud, but the brightness of a new day...)
CUT: WINDFAVOR rows a boat in the moonlight with VELESIA. They have a nice time, but we don't know much about it. We're keeping it PG-13.
SCENE: The boat approaches the docks of the unnamed human settlement. WINDFAVOR, with VALESIA, jumps overboard, leaving SELTYN in charge, as the boat drifts towards the dock.
My apologies to all who format scripts correctly. Too much work for this!

Setlyn, when the Paizo lurkers ask to make this published content, you will help me cowrite this and we will retire wealthy as all good adventure path designers?
Sure! We all know that APs are the path to massive wealth! If I know anything about writing, it's that writers are lavished with mountains of cash.

Velesia Shadestep |

Alright, I know this sucks, but at this point I have to say that you guys are moving too fast for me. Seeing as everyone else is keeping up just fine, I'm going to have to vote for dropping me and grabbing a replacement. I'm sorry guys! If need be, I can stay until we finish the mission.

Lady Ciedrel |

I did say the post wasn't required, you would have been in a grand sniping position without posting. The action can move along without daily posts, that was my intent with strong party leaders. That said, if you aren't up for it, I think we start the call for a replacement now? Also let me know if anything bothers you besides the pace; I'll not be offended.

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

I'd like for you to stay with us, Velesia. I can run your character if you're anticipating a busy holiday, but can be back more often later.
That said, 6 characters is a lot, and we can do okay with 5. It's likely that a dwarf or 2 might die or drop out eventually, or one of our guys for that matter, so I'd rather not rush into a replacement right away.
Let's see how it goes. Velesia is hidden and ready to snipe, so Chainmail or I can handle it that way. The party just doesn't know where she is ATM.

Chainmail |

If you would have passed on the post, that would have been ok. I just wanted to give you a time to act and have your day in the sun; you had a chance to try something risky and dangerous. In the future I will leave a default action for Valesia (like hunker down in a good sniping position) so if you don't want to post you don't have to.

Chainmail |

An encounter avoided is an encounter solved. You can celebrate back at the island to a heroes welcome. The boy, well that requires something of a plan. We can let the dwarves catch up a little before next mission.
I now need to see how many EXPs to award for PbP. Typically mission 1 carried parties to level 2 one way or another.

Talon Moonwalker |
Just wanted to say I'm stil here. Just didn't have much to add and my weekend was crazy-busy.
Elorin and Seltyn, excellent job, guys... both in getting the mission accomplished and in the excellent role play.
Telethal is only a little disappointed it didnt devolve into a bloodbath. :)
I dunno, Talon is rather glad that everyone got home safe and sound. From what I gather, the dwarves haven't been anywhere near as lucky as we have in that respect. I am not a fan of battles unless needed when I play, and much rather would talk it out. Combat is fun don't get me wrong, but there should almost always be a talky talky way out. We found that method, and have the distinction of being the first group to use a non violent method for this mission. Something tells me that is pretty impressive.

Chainmail |

You were the first group to get the boy rescued and get 'bonus' points through nonviolent means. This required the leader or spokesperson to trigger empathy in Derrick by doing anything for their people as he was willing to do anything for his son. Elorin was the first to hit this one out of the park. She also received bonuses for being a stunning elf beauty (previous groups have 'leaders' that were male and created an immediate rivalry with him).
Due to the experience bonus of completely saving your race, I could do no less than advance everyone to level 2. If this is fast progression, than so be it. In the time awaiting next mission, you will be improving you skills.

Talon Moonwalker |
Hah, cant complain. It was a little surprising waking up this morning to see like forty posts though, lol. Not that its an issue, because everyone involved was posting.
Elorin, fantastic RPing. It was a fun read.
Yeah it must have taken a lot of work from both GM and Elorin to get all of that written. Many many appreciations to them both.

Talon Moonwalker |
Chainmail, word. I imagine its more difficult to do the RP, non-violent approach than the action. The dice do all the work. So, thanks! :)
Now, coffee and reread the action lol latenightout.
Yeah that wouldn't surprise me. Marlamin, I imagine your character would know about how to take care of animals and the like right? I would love if you and I could come up with some kind of an RP scene to explain why I am taking some ranks in Handle Animal? Doesn't have to be anything massive, but I want to be able to look after my own animal companion later and so on, and it helps to have the skill right?
Also, does anyone know Gnomish? I took a rank in Linguistics and want Gnomish as the language I gain from the rank.
At some point when we get back to the settlement I am going to find myself a riding instructor also, need to explain why I have 2 ranks and therefore a +7 modifier to the skill....

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

@ Talon: Gnome is a good choice. Seltyn took Dwarf. I think eventually, we could all take Sylvan, if we don't have it already, so we've got a code to ourselves. In a few levels, anyway. We've all got things we need points in. I had no ranks in religion, but I do now! LOL

Elorin Silentall |

Yes Talon I know gnomish. Thank you guys, I enjoyed role playing that. IT was fun but im absolutely shattered now. it was 6am my time by the time we finished. thats what I get for , getting into it I suppose hehe. completely worth it.
Excellent, leveling up. will look at that when I'm more awake.

Telethal the Halfblood |

Okay, taking another level of Barbarian, and using some time with our good Friend Admiral to get some ranks in swim. Additionally, I figure at least some of Telethal's down-time would be spent getting to know his melee companions Marlami and Ingwe. In that time of hanging out, but more importantly sparring and wrestling, Telethal takes a few notes from Ingwe's playbook and learns to use his teeth while raging. :)
Lvl 2 BArbarian
HP: 15 + 7 barb + 2 con + 1 favored class = 25
BAB: +1 (affects CMB & CMD)
Saves: +1 to fort save
+2 rds of rage per day
Rage Power: Animal Fury (1d4 bite attack)
Uncanny Dodge
Skills: +1 Acrobatics, +1 Swim
At some point, I'll want him to begin learning from his stealthier friends and pick up a level or two of Ranger, allowing him to grab some much needed ranks in Stealth, Ride, and maybe Survival.
