GM Elton |
The Note orders that Salva d'Lyrandar needs to be slain, simply because he got too uncomfortably close to the Aurum's plans. Someone hired Thurani assassins to do the job, and one guy was sent to be a distraction so the real deed can be done.
GM Elton |
OK, wait- did we kill the other guy and it was the assassin that did this that fled? Or is this real assassin possibly still in the building?
Perfect opportunity for Perception and Diplomacy checks to see if the Assassin is still at large in Skyway. :)
Danir |
Looking around the room, Danir searches for anything that seems out of place or... wrong (other than the body, of course). Just before beginning his search, he weaves magic energy into his signet ring again, this time a sensory-enhancement charm to help him in his search.
places Skill Enhancement infusion into his ring, adding +4 circumstance bonus to perception checks for 40 minutes.
Taking 10 on Perception check +16 from ranks and circumstance bonus= 26
Danir |
Danir goes around the desk and looks down at the papers, seeing if he can figure out what they are- he is also careful to touch and move nothing so when Inquisitives from the House and Citadel arrive...
Take 10 again for perception roll...
"Ebran- do go let your house know what has happened, but leave the dagger and paper- they are clues and this is a crime scene, we want to tamper with it as little as necessary"
Ebran Asur |
"Hmm, makes sense." Ebran says of Danir and Xov's statements.
Ebran leaves to alert the guard. He states simply, "There has been a murder. Murderer potentially at large, likely Thuranni. Victim was Lyrandar. There is a note and a knife, get inquisitors." After the basic gist is passed, he will travel with the guard and ask him to ask for someone who can speak with the dead, although he trusts any investigator worth their salt would do so without prompting.
Xov |
Hmm, what should I write next? It's been awhile since the last update on what Xov thinks of the other PCs, but doing one now would be weird, since he barely knows anything about Absylom, and everything he knows about "Thrask" is wrong. He already explained what he thinks about Thrask to Ebran and Danir, anyways.
I could start doing something like Danir's journal entries.
Hm, maybe I could do something about Xov's opinions of each of the dragonmarked houses. Although to do that, I would need to assume stuff about the world from the Eberron books that hasn't come up in the game, and which Elton may not be using.
.....of course I could also just wait for a better time.
GM Elton |
They scramble to get Inquisitors. It wasn't a good ending to a good day. Although, you do have a note implicating the Aurum in this attack (no one's safe from an assassin, and Thurani are the best). You the PCs must decide what to do, since Ebran is going to be inducted into the house as a d'Lyrandar.
Ebran Asur |
Well, as far as that goes, Ebran would default to standard house politics at that point. That begs the question: Thuranni would be blameless in this, correct? Or is there some edict that precludes them from targeting dragonmarked members? Did the victim have a dragonmark? Who would determine if the Aurum paid for the hit? What resources, as a newly inducted Lyrandar, would Ebran be able to bring to bear? Who among the Lyrandar can order retaliation, if that is to be the case?
Danir |
Was Danir able to see anything on the papers without disturbing them overly?
"Did any of you get a good look at the assassin that fled? perhaps we could get an artist to render a likeness of him for the watch to search for.
As far as House Thurani goes- we cannot currently prove that the assassin was a member of the house, as leaving behind a note and a Thurani house crested dagger seems like the sort of blunder a real Thurani agent would never make- I would be willing to wager that it is more likely that this is an attempt to make this look like Thurani work than an actual murder performed by the house."
Thrask the "Wandslinger" |
Depends, my knowledge of the Elven renegades is limited... However I can say this, in all my years as a mercenary contractor I have never gotten the chance to recruit Thurani operatives as "mercenaries". If this is Thurani the people who hired them whether they be the Aurum or not are way beyond your pay grade...

"Indeed, only a complete idiot would be so stupid. Someone that incompetent would not be chosen as an assassin."
Xov |
"The person who attacked me did seem extremely incompetent, as he could barely even hurt me with a thrown dagger, and I am not much of a combatant. I assume he was a distraction. What I do not understand, however, is why, if the assassin's employer wanted to eliminate potential witnesses with a distractor, they didn't send someone actually capable of killing whoever they wanted to distract."
Ebran Asur |
Ebran steps in the room, having completed his informing of the guard.
"Good points, all. It is my hope that this room was scryed upon, time will tell on that one. I concur that Thuranni was likely not the true perpetrator, unless they had political gain to be had by letting the house know that they were not immune to predation. And as to pay grades..." he says, looking to Thrask, "as tonight shows, pay grades mean little when blades touch necks. Hopefully the House will investigate more and give me some details on what happened. If I am to be on this case, then so be it. If not, well, I imagine this sort of thing probably happens a lot in Sharn, although hopefully not on Skyway..."
Thrask the "Wandslinger" |
As allies of my employee, Absylon I believe that you are entitled to certain "benefits"... No ones knows from day to day what you will find in the "merc pit", however with this being Sharn the Droam contigent will be large... You always find something or someone "interesting" in the Droam contigent, like a Medusa for instance...
Thrask's eyes seem to briefly glaze over as if remembering a memorable event from the past...
Those were the days, they were brief but they were good. At any rate, I am willing to recruit and pay mercenaries on your behalf youngsters. Although the exact details will depends greatly on the mercenaries in question, for instance I won't completely fiance a Medusa's contract but I will subsidize it with my own funds if you will make up the rest...
using hero point, GM I understand that since I am trying to lie again so I receive 10- penalty. Do I have documentation that shows I am really "Thrask" and if so how much of a bonus does it give me? If he does have the documents Thrask will show them as "convincing evidence".

Hero points are an 8+ luck bonus if applied to a d20 roll, i Had one before the previous use so now I'm out. This is per the prd. the Twenty meanwhile is a result of taking twenty, think about it for a minute Thrask is't trying to impersonate anyone who exists. And the rules don't state anything about not taking ten or twenty on a disguise roll if you have the time to do so.
Thrask calmly stares the Shifter his eyes unwavering...
Listen hear shifter, like you I am a mercenary, just older and wiser. The fact of the matter is my contract states I am to assist you by whatever means are required of me, short of directly intervening on your behalf due to old age. A man in your position needs all the help he can get, you want cannon fodder to take the heat while you sneak behind the enemy I can supply. Want a small army on short notice I can supply it, I can make your life easier son but only if you have the sense to allow me to do so.
GM Elton |
Where are all of the bonuses that 'Thrask' is adding coming from? Where did he get the +20 to his Disguise roll and now the +8 to Bluff? If he's using skill rolls directly against us, I want to know the bonuses that he is using are valid.
I don't think you were the target. I think House Lyrandar actually is. It's just Othan and Xov overreacted.
I have a copy of Blood of the Moon. I think with a little alterations, it can make a better shifter. What do you think?
GM Elton |
The inquisitives arrive. Or at least one is an inquisitor, an hour later, brought by Lyrandar skyship. In that hour, a Lyrandar representative arrives and asks everyone to remain calm.
"Everyone, please, remain calm," he says. "I know, my brother has been murdered, and I am here to tell you that the Inquisitives will arrive shortly. The best agency in Sharn has been notified, and they are on their way. I will ask, especially you four, to return to your rooms. Tomorrow is a big day for you, Ebran. I don't want it to be full of worry."
Thrask the "Wandslinger" |
Thrask sweeps his hat of his head in a respectiful salute to the dead and speaks to the Inquisitor...
My good Inquisitor I am sorry to hear of your loss, as a professional contractor I have an interest in assisting my client, Ebran. You see I was contracted to assist him and I would like to know if your brother's death would have any "ramifications" that might effect my client's safety...
