Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Hmm, with all the intra-house conflict, it wouldn't surprise me if at least one person in this room was loyal to the Aurum.
He scanned the crowd for anyone suspicious.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
sense motives: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

(I was locked out on my account so I had to start a new one, guys.)

Scanning the crowd, you find that that your perception is on the black haired girl. Something about her is all wrong.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"That was quite a short speech," someone commented.

Your EM-Cee comes up and says, "Thank you, Ebran. Well, with our newest member of our house, you will get a ship of your own. However, certain parties of this Government pressured me not to give you a galleon, so you will get a sloop."

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

" wind and sky nonetheless." Ebran says, mostly happy and amused. A small ship would suit him better anyway.

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

Danir strolls through the ballroom, listening to the speeches and watching those around him, thinking about how weird it felt to be back at a house gala, even if not his own house...

Perception roll to see if he sees anything dangerous/shady

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

Remembering their briefing, Danir also searches for Baron Thalissas d'Lyrandar amongst the crowd and seeks to get near him, to see first if he can overhear anything of value.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

(sorry Danir, to make you wait again).

Suddenly there was an explosion that rocked the room. Everyone is startled to see a beam of energy rise high into the sky. Only conclusion: someone is using the astrolabe. But why?

Oh, you have 1.5 seconds before panicked Khoravar start running for the exits.

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

Othan's mind blade is drawn before most people even have time to panic. He begins heading in the direction of the energy beam.

In a deep angry voice Othan yells, "Out of my way" and shoves people who don't move fast enough away.

Intimidate 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Your intimidation works and a multitude move out of your way.

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

While his elven blood may have been thin, it came through when it counted. As the first groan of the impending explosion began, Ebran turned, senses on edge, setting his plate down on the buffet table. As the wall and ceiling gave way to the beam of light, Ebran already had one foot in front of the other on the way over there.

Chakram in hand, Ebran leaped from table to table over the heads of the stampeding crowd that filled the aisles.

escape artist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 to make his way through the entangling crowd. add 4 to that if you think Acrobatics would be more fitting.

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Xov floats up towards the ceiling with his levitation, then pushes his way forwards.

If the sack the dark haired woman was holding is the astrolabe Thrask will use Cloud Mind (dc 17) and remove it from her grip...

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

Cursing himself for not bringing any weapons other than his dagger, Danir rushed towards the source of the burst of energy, hoping things didn't go all to Dolurrh for once...

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

Othan is a weapon.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Sorry, it didn't work. She places the Astrolabe in the magical vortex, and the energy changes color from bright white to black with white sparklies.

"At last, Dal Quor will orbit Eberron again!" She says. "Thus is the will of the Inspired!"

no, it's fine! :)

Damn it, Dragons and now the Dreaming Dark...

Kill the madwomen before she finishes her insanity!

diplomacy1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 (Influence the Crowd to take a chunk out of this woman...)

Thrask then pulls his fire wand out and charges forward to point blank range...

Assuming max caster level of five for the wand, make adjustments if that is not the case

Burning Hands 5d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 1, 2) = 12

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

Othan charges (and power attacks) the woman

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 for 2d6 + 14 ⇒ (1, 2) + 14 = 17 dmg

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

can Ebran see the woman?

Burning Hands 5d4

She shields her hands even as Othan attacks her! (both are hits) you burn her face, and Othan blades connect! But flipping and landing in front of her is the -- Khoravar Patriarch of the Sharn enclave? He manifests two mindblades.

"Defend me!" she says.

"As you wish."

Ebran Asur wrote:

Yes, with the head of your House in Sharn defending her.

Thrask takes a small step (five foot step) and concentrates briefly on Othan...

Othan, missive:

Get out of the way, I can finish this...

He then withdraws thirty feet and calmly takes one bead from his small necklace...

Forgot my UMD check with the wand rolling it now, count it as having fizzled last round if the check fails...

UMD1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

On his next turn Othan will dive out of the way.

this better be a good plan with psychic strike I hit like a truck. 2d8+2d6+11 once I am able to use my movement to recharge psychic strike each turn

Thrask will when his turn is up unleash this little badboy...

UMD if required1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

If successful Thrask crushes the bead in his hand and a ball of fire starts to take shape in his clenched fist, as it gains size Thrask unclenches his hand and the ball of fire roars as it strikes the two foes...

Oh it's good alright, using my 5d6 fireball bead GM, save dc 14

damage5d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 4, 3) = 12

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

Ebran snags one of his chakram (not the new expensive one, in case this doesnt work) and throws it at the vortex. While one would consider this a miss, Ebran's goal was not to hit the woman, but to perform a trick shot.

Spoiler:
attempted outcome]
chakram circumvents woman, hooks astrolabe, returns it to Ebran's hand

(and wouldn't it be so cool if it pulls the astrolabe to him as the fireball goes off in the background?)

** spoiler omitted **

Save DC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15, save DC Inspired: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Trick shot -- hmm . . . .

The ball of fire blows up as the chakram takes the astrolabe away from the pedestal. The Inspired took the full brunt of it, and is now becoming a burning husk. her defender jumped out of the way, but his clothes are on fire and he's taking second degree burns.

You hear a hollow: "You may have slain this vessel, but I'll be back; I'll be back!"

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

"Don't kill the patriarch! He might have just been mind-controlled!" Ebran yells defensively, pulling his crystal chakram out and secreting the astrolabe in the glove made by his colleague, Danir.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

The patriarch looks determined and attacks Othan.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Thrask concentrates briefly...

Missive, Othan:

I'll charge him, you circle behind and kick his shins...

Thrask moves in his fire breathing wand pointing at the patriarch...

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

"Or at least, try not to kill him!" Ebran says, charging his crystal chakram and throwing it.

nonlethal, thrown attack: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 10 - 4 = 10
damage, nonlethal: 1d8 + 3 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 4 + (4, 6) = 24

spending 2 PP to invest, and 1 for trick shot to make it return when it misses.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

yeah . . . thats a hit. He's pretty much lost consciousness.

I believe gentlemen I need to drop a name for you, the man who handed the sack to the dark haired crazy was Cassadar, an innkeeper on the skyway. I was tracking her, I believed that the sack contained the payment for the assassination... Feel like some good old fashioned rough rousing interrogation?

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

so, we have the astrolabe, bad guy temporarily defeated, patriarch knocked out and hopefully saved from mental influence, and a name of someone who (according to our crazy compatriot) paid the temporarily-defeated-enemy to kill (someone, probably the folk from earlier)?

"How did this Cassadar get the astrolabe?"

Unknown, I only arrived in time to witness the transaction... It is likely a lost cause but Cassadar may not have fled, we should check the Skyway top to bottom. As for your "patriarch" I am willing to wager that the "real" patriarch was replaced a long time ago... You can mind control a target sure but teach him how to manifest mindblades?

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

hmm do i know if he had that ability before?

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Nope. You don't.

Congrats, you all gained a level, including Danir.

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Wow, I'm gone for most of a day and 20 new posts?
Xov is impressed with how quickly his allies handled the situation. He tried to recall what he knew about Dal Quor or the Inspired.
Knowledge (The Planes): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
"Let's see what sort of control your patriarch is under."
Cautiously, he approached the unconscious patriarch and studied him for signs of domination or other influence.

Message, all:
"Let us try to come up with a plan. It seems clear to me that there is a connection between the Aurum and the 'Inspired'."

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

The patriarch has signs of influence, but where did he learn how to manifest a mindblade?

You know as much as anyone else with the results of a 21. The Inspired come from Reidra. And from research in Aundair, you learn that Dal Quor is linked to a lost 13th moon. This was one attempt to bring the lost 13th moon back into orbit.

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

"for now let's be on the safe side and bind the Patriarch's hands. Does this place have any kind of anti-psionic device?"

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

"not that I know of, but I don't hang out here much."

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

There isn't. The closest one is down in Magna Sharn.

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

"then we must hope that he is either an impostor or merely temporarily controlled by that women's magics. I for one do not wish to place the real patriarch in chains."

I should have othan leveled tonight

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

"If he is permanently under the control of a Quori we may have little choice. "

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

(I'll wait for Danir's reaction to all this. )

You guys all have to admit that leveling to 5th level is the way to go. :)

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Just so everyone knows, I will be gone for most of tomorrow and probably won't be able to post. I'll still be around tonight and will be back Friday.

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

i'd like to level to 5! :D

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Days after what happened, the Lyrandar patriarch was scanned for any Quori possession, and was found dis-possessed. As for Ebran, he was given a note:
Meet me at the docks.

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

Can the patriarch still manifest a mind blade?
