Thrask tips his large, "stylish", blue hat in the direction of Ebran.

Thrask d'Tharashk, your have already met my employee Absylon... I was planning to arrange for a little get-together at one of the Inns in this town a day or so back but certain matters got in my way... Do not worry about concealing relevant information, a mutual "acquaintance" of ours hired me to assist you which I am doing right now.

GM I want to use the previous 3 days to perform research on this social, i.e make some Knowledge (nobility & local) checks concerning the House and so forth. May I? Thrask's voice would sound like this (patriarch) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q7Mprl4fbU

alright. That's fine to sound like that. Your research gets you deep enough that you can pass for most people.

Yes, you can make some knowledge checks.

It looks like you have to win over your comrades first, Thrask. You're going to have to work on your bluffing.

A suspicious mind is a healthy one youngster, our mutual "acquaintance" is a fat man who is a drug addict... Never could understand the man's liking for the stuff, if you want to get drunk Malt Whiskey is infinitely superior. I was in my younger years a professional Wandslinger, learned by craft from a Cyran Wandslinger who evaded conscription in the Cyran army and went to hide out in Stormreach.

My life was fairly normal for your "average" Wandslinger, I fought thugs, bandits, thieves, Drow and even a few giants. Meanwhile I was spending almost all the money I acquired to buy new Wands or replenish old ones, get laid by some of the worst and finest prostitutes in Stormreach and drink myself to death which I admit is still one of my favorite hobbies. Then this mark on my neck manifested itself two years ago and the Stormlords contracted me to take out the Kobold Cartel which I did with explosive panache...

After that I busted a ring of Sarlona mindthieves and negotiated on behalf of my House during a particularly bloody feud with House Denieth over contracting rights... Now I sell my services to the highest bidder, that bidder for now is Ressir.

Critical hit on the 20. Ebran, you have to beat a DC of 31 to get past that.

and there is no way to do that even with a natural twenty, Absylon may stumble but he recovers fast.

Xov places his bag in his room, then dons his Sleeves of Many Garments. His clothing transforms into a fine Brelish outfit, with silk gloves and robes.

He waits a few yards behind Ebran, gazing around at the scene, and listening.

Not a high enough sense motives to notice the second one.
That sounds like a lot of stories for a Citadel agent to spin...it sounds truthful though. But...mercenary? I would have thought the Citadel would have better than that.
For now though he was willing to accept that this person was who he said he was. He looked around the rest of the airship, for anything out of the ordinary.

Also, since Xov has constant Detect Magic, does he notice anything on Thrask or anyone else?

Silver Crusade

A lot of things, but nothing dangerous except for their weapons.

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

"Hmm, you just seem awfully familiar for a person I just met," Ebran says, looking at the new face. "I'm sure you know I've got my eye on you. We've gotten our share of kooks from this man you say you know. You'll have to prove yourself a sight more useful than your words profess."

With that, Ebran pushes off the rail and briefly glances at the others before turning and walking towards the gangplank. "Where's Danir?" he asks.

Alright. Let me check 5 nations.

Danir arrives in a stylish courtier's outfit- a sky blue shirt and dark dress pants, high boots of polished leather so shiny you can almost see your reflection in them, and a midnight blue cloak draped over his shoulders. He also wears his signet ring (charged through Spell Storing Item infusion with Shocking Grasp spell- lasts 4 hours or until spell used).

Noting that Ebran was planning on bringing arms with him, Danir decided that in addition to his infused ring he would also wear his dagger to the party, just in case.

Thrask:

According to 5 nations, Thrane has taken large swaths of lands from it's two neighbors, and they want them back. One these has to be the land east of Lake Brey. This land is in dispute, and it's your mission, for now, to resolve the dispute. Or to find out how to resolve it with Breland ahead. There are few more details, but I'll get to that later.

In no short order, as soon as everyone was aboard, the sky ship rose into the sky, and headed towards Skyway. No one city had anything like skyway.

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

Danir takes in the people aboard the sky ship with them, paying particular attention to any visible or hidden weapons, and the general motivations/moods of those aboard.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

As he watches those around him, Danir pulls Xov and Ebran aside to ask them about the presence of the Orc in their midst.

Ebran/Xov:
"Who is this, and why is he with us?"

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

Danir/Xov:

"No idea. Claims to employ Absylon. He lied to me at least once, did some fast talking without answering my question thereafter. Claims to be working with our mutual contact."

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Danir/Ebran:
"I failed to notice any explicit lies in his tale...this person seems to be at least partially mercenary, though...my hunch is that we should not trust him."

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

Xov/Ebran:
"So now instead of 1 unknown factor we have 2? I love how it seems that our 'friend' wants to make it as bothersome as possible to work for him. And he's a mercenary, eh? What is he, some variety of sword for hire?"

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

Danir/Xov:
"Whoever he is, he's on his own until i get word from the 'boss man' himself. I don't need to remind you that we are now in the court of the dragonmarked houses, every bit as dangerous and more as stomping through the cogs."

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

Ebran/Xov:
"Indeed. And he says he's part of House Tharashk? I'm not sure I believe that and I’m not going back to prison if he’s caught committing fraud for claiming membership in a Dragonmarked house if he isn’t really a member. Did he tell you anything about his past before I got here?

male human lvl 2 (varient multi-class rogue)

Othan spends most of the trip standing on the deck watching the terrain below. He doesn't go out of his way to interact with people but if approached will engage in conversation.

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

danir/xov:
"just some boastful statements." (see above)

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

GM:
As soon as Ebran recounts Thrask's story, Danir will know that its just a total load of manure- should he just flat-out tell his companions so that they can distance themselves from the man? According to the Dragonmarked book, pretending to be a member of a house really is a punishable crime of fraud and his (Thrashk's) lies could actually endanger our mission. Personally I want to drop the truth like a brick wall but wanted to know if you thought it would be a bad idea to do so? Anyways, thanks for reading this.

Silver Crusade

male Human Atlanteologist 10/G.eneral O.perations D.irector 8

It's okay. It was my suggestion that he'd go all out in impersonating being a member of a Dragonmarked house. I figure I'll let him play his game for a while, and then someone will eventually find out.

This is how it happens in the real world. You can fool a lot of people that you are something, or you can do something; but eventually the truth does come out and catches up to you. So, let him play his game as a player. Your character, however, has the right to disbelieve him and to out him.

But if you do it now, no one will believe your character. So let him dig his own pit.

Fortunately every disguise is disposable for Absylon, even if Thrask is caught (so long as he ain't captured) Absylon can pull off the "Kyber that changeling fooled even me!"

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Danir/Ebran:
"I think that if Ressir truly wanted us to trust this person, he would have told us."

GM:
At the next opportunity (possibly in the morning when he is normally contacted), he will ask his contact in Fairhaven whether they know anything about 'Thrask'.

Silver Crusade

male Human Atlanteologist 10/G.eneral O.perations D.irector 8

Ressir will be contacting you when you reach Skyway.

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Are there disruptions/events between now and getting to Skyway or are we skipping ahead?

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

Well Danir can completely destroy his claims of being a wand adept and prove that he doesn't have a real dragonmark so I think that would suffice to destroy his cover...

Silver Crusade

male Human Atlanteologist 10/G.eneral O.perations D.irector 8

It's up to you, to rp the downtime or not.

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

I realize he failed his Sense Motive check but was Danir able to find out anything out about the other passengers with his Perception check?

Silver Crusade

male Human Atlanteologist 10/G.eneral O.perations D.irector 8

Nope. Perception tells you that they are all dressed exquisitely.

on the dragonmark count you could succeed Danir... On the wandslinger part no, when I mean "wandslinger" I don't mean the Cannith Wand Adept prestige class I mean "wandslinger" (i.e the eberron version of the gunslinger) and I have the UMD to do it...

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

Perhaps I was confused by what you meant by Wandslinger, but your backstory still has a huge hole in it- no member of House Cannith would ever need to flee Cyre to avoid conscription- all Dragonmark House members are immune to conscription into national militaries. The Korth Edicts actually forbid house members from holding military or noble rank while part of their house- this is the reason why Danir left the house originally, so that he could join the Cyran military.

Danir might not be able to prove that Thrask is not a Wandslinger but he can certainly point out that the man's whole history revolves around a blatant fallacy. But really, if Thrask wants to make such claims, Danir is simply going to make sure he doesn't get caught up into any of the mercenary's lies or be held as accountable for any crimes he may commit.

The backstory said he was Cyran...it said nothing about "House Cannith". House Cannith may have the majority of magical item makers in the world but by no means would it have a total and complete monopoly. Black marketeers and crafters of magic items will always exist, especially in Xen'drik. Think about it, every nation would have there own artificers who owed their loyalty to only that Nation... Xov's mistrust of the Houses isn't exclusive to him.

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

He has a visible (false) dragonmark. That's a pretty obvious sign of House membership (not necessarily House loyalty, but some sort of connection.)

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Xov wanders around the ship a bit, listening to others' conversations.

Silver Crusade

The ship begins to dock at skyway. It's a painless, if loud, procedure.

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

Ebran, unwilling to let the latest pile of manure supposedly coming from their Citadel contact spoil such a day, looks forward to Skyway, and keeps his eye out for any obviously Lyrandar-affiliated contacts to lead them to the manor.

Human Artificer 4 HP:21/27 AC:17/16 f-f/11 tch

"Well its been a while since I've been to something like this," Danir thinks to himself as he prepares to disembark at Skyway. "Hopefully this party will go better than that one..."

Danir is momentarily taken back into the past as he remembers the last time he saw his parents- his mother's slap was a fresh wound across his cheek, her response to his declaration that he was refusing a house contract to work on Thrane warforged, that he was instead going to join the Cyran military so that he could defend his homeland.

It was the last time he saw his parents, within 6 months he would be taken captive by Brelish forces, and after their deaths on the day of Mourning he would never be able to tell them he was sorry, to tell them how much he loved and missed them. He wished again that his last words with them had not been so angry, so vicious.

It was his greatest regret, and the reason he was part of this madness- to rebuild his place in the house (if he could) to honor his parents' wishes, and so that he could acquire the skills and resources necessary to someday go home to Eston, to see if he could find his parents and give them a proper burial.

Thrask calmly examines the manor looking for any guards or so forth who mean "trouble".

The docking is complete, and dignitaries from House Lyrandar are waiting for you to disembark.

Male Drow Sorcerer 5

Xov looked at his surroundings. He was careful to stand a fair distance away from Thrask, for if that creature's crime was exposed, he did not want to become collateral damage.

He recalled the last time he had been present at such a House gathering. It was more than a quarter century ago, when he had been investigating happenings in House Phiarlan, shortly before the house was torn apart.
Hopefully today would go better.

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

Ebran looks about at the other members of his troupe, particularly the original ones, and steps across the ramp to greet the dignitaries.

"Ebran, presenting myself as ordered."

"Ah, good," one said. "Here's our new member now."

"He's still a human," said a female.

"Yeah, so? He managed to retrieve the astrolabe. Which is far better than anyone could have hoped."

"Lets polymorph him into a half-elf," one suggested. He got slapped in the face.

Human Marksman (Shroud/Sniper) 5

"Ah, yes." Ebran interjected, with a bit of indignation. "The apple isn't all sour, at any rate. Where's the wine?"
