Having gotten the dwarf onto his horse, Sabola quickly mounts his own horse and commences to ride away, pulling Kazmuk's mount behind him. "If we can't defeat the things, let's just leave them!" Sabola yells to his friends as he rides away.

I had rolled the Quick Mount roll for Round 2, but anyways, I can mount this round and get out of here.

Action 1:
Hedda dug in her pack and pulled out one of her healing tonics. She assumed that if it would work on her then it would work on a horse. Pouring it into the horse's mouth she said, "You are not going to let a few wasps kill you. You're tougher than that."

Is the horse in trouble because of the critical wounds or is it going to die from poison and nothing we do can help it? If it's due to poison then Hedda won't try to heal its hitpoints.

The rest of my post will be determined by whether she has a horse to ride or not so I'll wait to know if it dies or heals enough to carry Hedda. However, I will do my checks below.

The horse will not die but it does need healing for hit points and dexterity damage. Anything that works for human will work for the horse.You only need to make one Sense Motive check.

Action 1

Kaede rushes to Pakad, anxious to determine whether or not he's been hurt.

I don't think he was hit? I was dismounted and he didn't attack, so I don't know that he would have drawn attention.

After seeing to her own steed's health, Kaede begins to assess her other companions, horse and human. Seeing the trouble Hedda's horse is in, she withdraws her runed tusk as well as a few rolls of parchment, incongruously fine compared to the rest of the equipment she favors. "I'll see to the weakest and most injured first -" Then she realizes the impact of what Hedda's said. "Correction. Let's de-ass this place, then I'll see to the weakest and most injured first. No one's so poorly off they can't walk, correct?"

With a quick chant, she waves the tusk over the horse's wounds, attempting to add to the healing Hedda's tonic had done, then taps Pakad on the neck and guides him away from the scene.

Cure Light Wounds on Hedda's horse for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 healing.

Action 2

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

The a$!~$$@ really thinks so little of us, expecting us to just drop everything, turn tail, and run...

"Others can turn back if they want; I intend to see things through." Kaede sizes up the severity of the poison's effects on everyone, balancing the rolls of parchment in one arm. "Now, anyone who took too much of that poison, I'll help get you back on your feet. After that I'll see to mending the wounds." She unrolls the gilded parchments and begins to read them over her weakest companions, prayers to Iomedae in flowery, formal language that sound strange in her husky alto voice.

I have four scrolls of lesser restoration to be used as they're most needed. I don't have to have one myself; the DEX damage doesn't affect me too badly. After that, charges of cure light wounds to get everyone at least close to healthy.

About the lesser restoration, I think it is better not to spend it on Kazmuk, for he is not really affected by the loss (his AC is crappy with or without the DEX).

Action 1

With the fight over, Kazmuk walked towards his horse to inspect his wounds. The dwarf was in a pretty bad shape, but hearing Hedda's words he decided it was better to hurry. He searched in his pack as he walked for his healing potion, but decided not to use it when he saw Kaese's magic charm.

Better to save my potion for when I have no other means to heal myself.

He still felt slowed by the wasp's poison, but concluded that it was not the end of him.

At Sir Ilivan's words, Kazmuk quickly replied. "I'm afraid no one will give up... at least I won't, but I'm a dwarf, and the gods have yet not made a more stubborn race. " Looking at Hedda's attempts to save her horse, Kazmuk continued. "Hedda, I see you are making a good work, but if your horse do not survive, I can provide you another one... at least for a while."

I think it is better to save my CMW potion for another time, but if you disagree, Kazmuk will drink it.

As they rode, Arodric moved over to Kaede, offering her his wand.
"You're much, much better with these than I am. Want to swap?"

"Yeah, yeah. I know the drill. Everyone scatter."
Arodric sighed, chanted and gestured and started to glow. He then pointed at the Schirr and shouted in the tongue of Demons - while still glowing impressively - "Flee, fool. Know you face Arodric!"
The shout might have been impressive - had not Arodric slipped getting out of the saddle and staggered away from his horse, narrowly avoiding falling on his face. Red faced he regained his balance.

"Let them come to us, away from the prisoners!" Kaede called out in Hallit, hoping that at least some of her companions could understand her (and that the demons couldn't). She swung her legs over Pakad's back in a hurried dismount, but she still dragged a bit from the poison's effects, and in her haste, her dragon-hide gauntlet caught on the harness strap, forcing her to spend a few extra moments tugging it free.

She quickly stamped her foot to the ground and called out a loud incantation, and spectral blue vines grew from the baked earth and entwined themselves over her armor, seeming to crystallize into a lattice that sank beneath the scales.

Move action to dismount (I swear, I grew up on horses...), standard action to cast Barkskin for +3 to AC.

Hedda is limited in casting. She can cast 2 spells per day and only knows Protection from evil and Longarm. She has enlarge person as part of her bloodline and will most likely do that when she engages.

The bloodrager managed to land on her feet and start moving forward as she jumped off her horse. She unslung her mighty greataxe and said, "Now things are going to get interesting."

Before engaging the demons, Hedda knew it wise to protect herself as much as possible. She said the words that came naturally to her mind and immediately she felt more resilient against evil.

...more slowly than he wanted, but he drew his blades, and started moving slightly away from his companions, to avoid getting fireballed, or worse.

Move me a little to the left of the group, so we can't all get fireballed.

Kazmuk knew that atop a horse he would be useless in the combat... but it was the same on foot, so he remained where he was. Seeing his companions preparing themselves to the imminent combat, Kazmuk made a couple of gestures and recited some words, granting new strength to Hedda.

Casting Bull's Strength on Hedda.

Round 2

Fortitude (DC 13), hardy: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16

Reflex (DC 15), DEX penalty, hardy: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 2 + 2 = 20
Fire Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4) = 18 So 9 damage

Kazmuk saw the flying sphere, just in time to react. He was hurt, but better hurt than dead. He also saw the green smoke rising but he knew how to react... dwarves, after all, usually did not like magic... especially when it is used against them.

Perception (DC 20): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

He looked around, the group was spreading... a good sign, so to better support them he would stay still. With another couple of gestures and arcane words, he saw as Keade enlarged to become a giant.

"Put that hammer to work girl!"

With a grim, Kazmuk drew his heavy crossbow.

Mmm, tasty, tasty fire. So, assuming I had less than 9 points of damage before the fireball, I'm still up, but likely into critical wounds.

Kaede's natural hardiness carried her through the stench of the cloud of smoke with ease - but in the haze, she missed the missile flying along its path, and several gouts of flame from the subsequent explosion rippled across her, practically cooking her inside of her heavy armor. She cried out in pain - and then in surprise, as her companions suddenly shrank away from her. At Kazmuk's shout, she realized what had happened and grinned.

Sounds like a plan, boss.

With a loud cry of anger, she dug in her feet and ran shrieking for the closest demon, ripping her hammer from her back as she ran and swinging it full-force at the monstrosity, screaming as the new burns covering her protested the exertion.

Kaede attack with charging, critical wounds; damage: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 - 3 = 91d10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

DICEBOT!! WHY MUST YOU HURT ME LIKE THIS?!?!

But in the haste of her charge, her swing went wild, leaving her open to the demon's wrath.

It used to be easier to fudge rolls when I played PBEM but since I transitioned to PBP I find that it's much harder.

Seriously, although this is the big fight of this part of the campaign, I didn't think it was going to be too difficult. You've all breezed through the other fights.

Hedda easily shook off the awful smell but as she looked up into the sky and saw the vrock circling, she missing the incoming glowing bead that exploded too near to where she was and she was unable to get herself clear of the explosion.

ouchies! I think this will put her serious to critical as well but the rage will give her 8 temporary hps. Her ref save is so sucky that it pained me to see I was so close to just taking half damage :(

The bloodrager's anger detonated as her flesh was seared and she began to grow in size and she screamed in rage and let loose her fury with a mighty swing of her coldiron blade.

Sabola noticed there was yet another creature around, high above, a demon was in flight. Sabola pointed up, "Be aware, that we have company up above as well."

"Save some for me Kaede," Sabola cried as he approached the Schir. As he got near the creature, he activated his boots, and somersaulted into a position just south of the creature.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 +5 with daredevil boots

I didn't see how I could get a flank, so this is not flanking, and not charging.

Sabola attacked with his dagger...

Round 3

Sabola could feel his skin starting to bubble up where it had been burned by the blood of the demon, but he knew that he needed to persevere if any of them were to survive. He stepped slightly to his left, so that he was flanking the creature with Arodric. He slashed with both of his both of his daggers quickly.

His first blade sunk deep into the demon's skin, and he felt the life fall out of the creature, but he was familiar with creatures that could regenerate and come back to life, so he slashed away with the second dagger anyways. "It's the only way to be sure," he said as he shrugged to his companions.

Protection From Evil was cast. Sword still has a black blade point, Arcane Pool is down one.

I'm fine with the Wound Threshold System - makes the game grittier. We've now learned not to keep going unless properly healed.
Are you suggesting to roll without those penalties for now?

Thanks for keeping Hedda alive with an action point for her reflex save! She may go down if she gets hit again but I don't think she's going to stop and logically think to heal herself...

Hedda stepped over the downed schir and took a swing at the next closest demon with the intent on cleaving it in two.

attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
damage: 1d12 + 7 + 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + (5, 1, 3) + 1 = 29

The bloodrager's focus was single-minded. Her powerful blow barely registered as she moved towards the next demon.

I'm assuming she's still on her feet and that her blow hit/killed the demon she attacked. If it didn't, she'll stay and fight rather than moving on.

Not sure I did my damage correctly. Was the 3d6+1 instead of her 1d12+7 damage or in addition to? Whatever the case, please adjust accordingly.

Eh, the issue wasn't so much not being properly healed as it was that fireballs hurt and druids in full plate don't do so well on the Reflex save front. And come now, Fabian - surely you know that now that you've said only a couple of good rolls will turn things around, we're doomed to ones and twos for the rest of our time in the Worldwound, right? ;)

Also, don't forget that I'm using a reach weapon, so I need to end up with a square in between me and the stuff I'm fighting. One more question - was Pakad hit by the fireball or fog cloud? If so, how badly is he hurt?

I've called him into the fight now (because apparently I need all the help I can get), but I left an out if you want yo keep him out of the fighting. I just figure, considering he's one of my biggest class features, I may as well use him. :)

That makes sense. I'll figure out the damage he's taken so far and have him get in the fray. He'll have his own space in the status table. :)

If he was in either spell effect, he failed his save. If he was in the fireball, he took 19 points of damage, leaving him with 7 hit points. So it's likely he's not joining in anyway, which is also completely fair.

Sabola saw Hedda's large body fall to the ground. "That's a shame, I hope she makes it," he muttered as he looped slightly to the south and got into a position to flank with Kaede, the magic from his boots helping him to get in safely.

I don't believe I need to acrobatics, but just in case, the boots.

Sabola got in under the brimorak's guard and slashed out with his cold iron daggers.

Uh, Arodric was on critical wounds (6hp remaining) at the 'start' of last round thanks to the fireball. If he was hit twice, I'm not sure he's still up. Seems to be on Medium Wounds now.
