Uh, Arodric was on critical wounds (6hp remaining) at the 'start' of last round thanks to the fireball. If he was hit twice, I'm not sure he's still up. Seems to be on Medium Wounds now.
You are right. I forgot to tally up the damage from the fireball. So he is down for the count. :(
Arodric |
Arodric smiled triumphantly, raising his sword to strike again. "Kaeda! We..." his voice trailed off, and a puzzled look came over his face - then his legs gave out and he fell to his knees. "Kaeda..." As his eyes rolled back the sword swung - and missed. He ploughed face forward into the hard packed dirt - motionless, except for a faint twitching in his sword arm.

Action 4
At Hedda's fall, Kaede was now locked in single combat with the brimorak - and at Sabola's daring attack, the brimorak was no longer a problem. She barely registered Sabola's words, as he was speaking from somewhere around her knee, but finally she realized what he had said and looked over to see Arodric sprawled in the dirt.
With an angry shriek, she leaves the fallen brimorak behind, running for the dretch and the fallen Arodric. Spirits...if I've ever once served you well, aid me now... She swings with a bestial howl, hoping to take the monster out quickly so she can tend to her fallen friend. But at the back of her consciousness, where the spirits' chatter has been a presence since time out of mind for her, she hears a faint echo - Kaede...
What if I'm too late? The mournful rage lends power to her swing, and she attacks with all the force she can muster.
Kaede attack with charge, action point, enlarge, damage with enlarge: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 + (3) - 1 = 172d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5) + 2 + 1 = 13
The hammer digs deep into the demon's foul gut, tearing at his foul flesh.
Or:
Despite the power behind the swing, it goes wide, leaving her once again exposed to the demon's attack.
Kazmuk Doortsgarf |
DM, Kazmuk should be side-by-side to Sabola, since Protection from Evil is a touch spell.
Round 4
Perception (DC 20): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Kazmuk heard the vrock speak and suddenly remembered that Sir Ilivan was fighting the demon alone.
"Hurry my friends, the commander will not hold much longer!" While saying this, Kazmuk guided his horse towards Hedda and dismounted, trying to make her drink his potion.
So... now is a good time to put this potion to good use...
Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6) + 3 = 12
Kaede of Sarkoris |
Yeah, if he's not down, I do. My opening remains, though: D:
Revised Action 4
Things were quickly growing dire. Hedda lay at Kaede's feet, bleeding from innumerable cuts and skin bubbling where the demon's blood had touched her. At Arodric's exultant cry, Kaede had turned, only to watch him fall to the ground with a thump, and in the back of her mind, where the spirits' presence had whispered to her from time immemorial, she thought she heard one final echo - Kaede...
Pakad was nowhere to be seen, and she suspected he had succumbed to the demons' magic; Sir Ilivan was now doing the only brave thing she'd ever seen from him, acting as a shield between monster and prey. Only she, Sabola, and Kazmuk remained to combat the foes that they had first seen, and she knew her own need for healing was desperate as well.
A new rage welled up inside her, and she began to understand why the berserkers of the stories she had grown up with had chosen to give themselves to its power. Screaming with a bestial cry, she swung with all the force she could muster at the brimorak in front of her, intent on rending it in two.
May I use my rolls from before, or should I reroll? If I'm reusing the rolls, please add two for flanking - I forgot I had it.

Sabola |
@Kaede: the brimorak is NOT down due to Sabola's attack so you may want to revisit your action...
I hope people didn't assume that I knew the brimorak was down. I just listed that as one of the two possible results of my attack. It should be disoriented then, if I didn't knock it down.
Kaede of Sarkoris |
Nah, it was mental math-ing of my own that messed me up. It's my Saturday and I'm at work right now - I'm just a little out of it. :)
Hedda Halbjørhus |
Through the fog of her mind, Hedda could hear a fire crackling and soft singing. The last thing she remembered was an intense burning sensation and then everything went black. She turned her head towards the sound and slowly opened her eyes. It took a bit for her eyes to focus and she was surprised to see her family sitting around the fire like they used to when she was little. To her horror she also saw the brimorak moving towards them. She scrambled to her feet, grabbed at her greataxe, and yelled at them to move. Her brother calmly looked at her and then pointed to the ground by her feet. It was then that she saw her body laying on the ground and the others fighting around her. "How is this possible and more importantly, why are you all here of all places?" Her brother waved her towards the fire and she confusedly stumbled forward and sat down.
"You've entered a temporary place where the spirit world and the real world blur together. We're not actually there with you and you're not really here with us." Hedda looked at her parents and they nodded. Her mother continued. "You need us right now so we're here, but you won't be staying for long. You still need to fight and help the others. We'll be here waiting for you when you're finished." Hedda couldn't even look any of them in the eye because of the guilt she was burdened with. Her sister lifted Hedda's face with her finger and said, "We don't blame you for what happened and you shouldn't blame yourself either. Use the sadness of losing us to fuel your anger but direct it to where it belongs, against the demons."
Hedda mutely nodded but she didn't fully understand what was happening or how she was to get back. Trusting in the others to figure it out, she decided to enjoy her time with her family beside the fire until they did. Even though the battle raged around her, it was the first time she had felt at peace in a long time.

The creature is -4 to hit me, and -2 to hit others.
Hedda Halbjørhus |
Action 1:
Hedda was pulled back to reality by Kazmuk’s ministrations and pain flooded her senses. She tried to get up and managed to stagger to her feet. It was then that everyone’s eyes turned to what was happening between the vrock and Sir Ilivan. Her jaw dropped when the demon ripped out Sir Ilivan’s heart. Her roar of rage was lost in the blinding flash of light and the vrock’s screams. It was then that she was filled with a virtuous radiance that she had never experienced before. Feeling renewed and blessed, Hedda gave the remaining demons a feral grin. ”You messed with the wrong knight, demon scum! You will pay with your hides.”
Hedda swung her greataxe down at the brimorak with the expectation that its blood would burn her as she took its life.

"Round 4"
As Kazmuk saw the fate of Sir Ilivan, he almost drew his battleaxe and charged the demons.
No... I'm no warrior... this glorious revenge shall be delivered by other hands.
He gritted his teeth but remained still. His spells were coming to an end. He looked at Kaede and after arcane gestures and words he touched her, granting greater strength.
Casting Bull's Strength on Kaede.
Kaede of Sarkoris |
Action 4
As Kaede slumped to the ground with the pain from the brimorak's burning blood, eyes fluttering, she could only watch helplessly as Sir Ilivan fell in battle against the vrock...and gasp in wonder as the heavenly light washed over them. You're welcomed to a mighty company. Sarkoris itself honors your sacrifice. She used her hammer to help herself to her feet. May you find the peace you never found in life...friend.
Then she looked at the demons still surrounding them. Now give me aid, you a%!+#$~, she thinks with a small, private smile. But the terror and grief of the last several moments had caught up with her, and she struggled to keep hold of her hammer's long handle as the weakness in her hands from the wasp poison threatens to make her lose her grip.
Kaede attack with flanking, action point, enlarge, bull's strength; damage with enlarge, bull's strength; yet again, do I crit fail?: 1d20 + 2 + 1d6 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (2) - 1 + 2 = 62d6 + 2 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 2 + 1 + 3 = 131d20 + 2 + 1d6 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 + (5) - 1 + 2 = 18
Ok...seriously. What gives, dicebot?
Fabian Benavente |
Ok...seriously. What gives, dicebot?
No crit fail, but you are going to have to get yourself blessed or perform some sort of witchcraft because your dice rolling is bordering on 'epic bad'. :)
Hey maybe you can reflect on this later and Kaede starts having doubts about her life path. I don't know; you have take advantage of this lousy dice rolling somehow. :)
Oh and BTW, that trick of the heart bursting forth with holy, healing light is one time occurrence so you all better get your dice rolling moves on!

untrained perform: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 really, dicebot?
Arodric levered himself to his feet, using his sword as a cane. Blinking in the aftermath of the white light he looked around, piecing together what had happened. "Good for you, old man." He looked over at the Vrock, then at the burned patch Illvian's body had left.
He took a step towards the Dretch, quietly murmuring a few words. He took another step, and the sword rose to guard position. The words became louder - revealing themselves to be the start of the Iomedean Hymn to Fallen Heroes.
He took another step, and another. His gate steadied, his hand weaves and a shimmering shield appeared between him and the Vrock. The hymn got louder as he strode towards the Dretch.
"And on the day you hear the call/You do not falter but stand tall/If against the evil you should fall/You'll dine that night in the Holy Hall!"

Arodric struck out wildly as the Vrock started to rip him apart, the hasty blow glancing off the Vrock's hide.
Protection from evil is up. only 2 arcane points left. Black blade is full.
Kaede of Sarkoris |
I'm coming to help, Arodric! With the brimorak defeated, Kaede steps forward toward the dretch, swinging her hammer with all her might and straining to let it reach as far as possible. Though she wanted no part of the Inheritor's limited faith, she had to admit - Arodric's hymn was stirring. Pakad, if you can, get over here behind them! she cries...
...and is rewarded with the sound of hoofbeats as he charges past, hooves flailing at the demon.
...but her call is met with stillness outside the madness of the melee.
Five foot step forward should put the dretch in range of my hammer, since it has reach. Attack on the dretch. For Pakad, charge and attack if he's within range and not still nauseated.
Kaede attack with action point, bull strength, enlarge; damage with enlarge, bull's strength: 1d20 + 1d6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (3) + (6) + 2 - 1 = 102d6 + 2 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 + 1 + 3 = 10
Pakad atack with charge, action point; damage: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 171d6 ⇒ 2
Not that my dicebot knows how to properly respond to a good hymn. -.-
Hedda Halbjørhus |
can Hedda move towards the vrock without engaging the dretch? If so, she'd like to do that. Sabola and Kaede seem to be attacking the dretch already and Hedda goes after them.

Yes, you may engage the vrock and not the dretch although we don't know yet what Sabola is doing this round.
Kazmuk Doortsgarf |
Kazmuk is almost without other moves to do, so I'll wait for Sabola and Hedda to post before deciding what to do.
Sabola |
The schir having been dispatched, Sabola turned to face the dretch that had attacked him.
Main Hand MW Cold Iron Dagger: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Off Hand MW Cold Iron Dagger: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
MW Cold Iron Dagger Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
His daggers flashed in the light, and slung demon blood around, but only one of them hit their mark and sunk into the creature's hide.
Sabola moved slowly towards the Vrock.
5' step, either due north, or NW if the dretch is disposed of.
Hedda Halbjørhus |
Iomedae's blessing was keeping Hedda on her feet but she was still far too tired to enter into a bloodrage again. Nevertheless, her weapon was more than enough to deal with the vrock that now plagued Arodric.
Moving quickly, Hedda closed the distance between herself and the vrock and swung her greataxe down at its good knee.
attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
damage: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
The coldiron greataxe blessed by Iomedae for Sir Ilivan's sacrifice sank deeply into the demon's leg and nearly sheared it off (ooc: or better yet, did shear it off).
Hedda Halbjørhus |
the enlarging is part of my bloodraging so when she went unconscious, I think she shrank. Although if Fabian lets me stay enlarged then I'll take it :)

swift: arcane strike. Full: cast & attack. Use Bladed Dash + 5ft to go round the monster and give everyone else flanking. Cooler would be to use it to jump the thing, but by RAW that is not possible. I can rewrite if it is.
Dismissed by the Vrock as inconsequential, Arodric used the opportunity to right - then chanted and blurred past the demon. While it blinked in surprise he used the opportunity to strike twice, both hits plunging through its torso.
Arodric |
might not be dead yet. 27 aint that much to a Vrock.
Kaede of Sarkoris |
Noo! I had a beautiful post and it got eaten! D: But at least we didn't! :D I don't know if we're going out of initiative or continuing with longer posts now, but if we are, here it is. If we're still in initiative, just use the first paragraph.
Her hands growing weaker and more shaky by the second, Kaede sent up a ragged cheer as Arodric finally dispatched the last demon, then suddenly sagged against Pakad at her side. Fingers trembling, she withdrew her healing charm and began the familiar invocations to call upon its power, muttering through teeth gritted against the pain. Tule avuksemme, hemmet Come to our aid, spirits...Arodric? I might need that stick of yours now.
Take charges from my wand and Arodric's to get us healed up, assuming we have time.
Through seeing to her allies' hurts, a look of grim determination was etched into Kaede's features, and her eyes steadily avoided the ruin of Sir Ilivan's body on the ground. After her companions were seen to, Kaede began to move among the prisoners, assessing their conditions while others searched for a way to free them.
Tag someone to look for the keys. Take 10 on Heal to assess their conditions for a total of 19.
Finally, though, she could avoid it no longer - with the living seen to, it was now time to attend the dead. With the same brusque, silent efficiency, she began to bundle Sir Ilivan in the rough hide she used as a blanket, searching the landscape for his red mare. Red like blood; was it an omen?
Feel free to leave that bit out if the mare was mentioned as not actually red; it just sounds neat that way. ;)
Finding the horse cowering behind a stone column, Kaede soothed the mare with gentle words - possibly the gentlest present company had ever heard her speak. With the horse coaxed back to Sir Ilivan's side, Kaede tried to lift the dead man onto the horse, but the knight's solidly build frame and Kaede's own heavy armor were too much for her to bear, though she was no weakling. Her knees buckling, she sat back heavily on the hard-packed ground, sending up a cloud of dust with Sir Ilivan lying limply and heavily across her.
Tag someone who can actually lift him. ;)
Kazmuk Doortsgarf |
Sorry for not posting before the recap, but it was actually not necessary at all!
As the last demon was killed, Kazmuk sat on ground relieved.
"Nice work fellas! I was almost out of resources..."
That was really close... I'm not as hurt as they are, but if they have fallen to the demons attacks, I would for sure be next... last time I only survived by pure luck... Well, there is work to do here.
Kazmuk got up and saw Kaede was taking the lead, taking care of the wounded, preparing Sir Ilivan's body for transportation and then trying to put him atop his horse. Kazmuk would like to help, but he had not the strength nor the height to accomplish this.
I guess I should do something useful right now. He looked at the former prisoners, but was not the best with the words they would need right now, so he decided to inspect the demon's corpses, looking for any clue of why they were taking those men alive or to where they were heading to.
Taking 20 to search the bodies. If any check is needed, please tell.
Fabian Benavente |
We're out of initiative so longer posts are welcomed. :)
We just have to do some wrap-up on this adventure but we are basically finished. I have about 3-4 more of these (similar lengths) if you guys care to continue with this story arc. So this won't be AP length or anything like that.
If not, then we can do something else. Let me hear some thoughts.

Kaede of Sarkoris |
I'm down with whatever - I'm cool with continuing this arc if people want to. I just like playing. :)
Fabian Benavente |
I too am good with whatever, but remember I'm outta here tomorrow, and cannot guarantee I can be back to posting until 4 Jan.
Damn, and I forgot to kill you. :)
We'll be here once you get back.
BTW, since at least three of you want to continue, we will. So as a Christmas present, you all get another level!
Game on!
Hedda Halbjørhus |
Hedda clapped Arodric on the back. "Well done."
She then went over to the vrock and after spitting on it, cut off one of its claws. She also opened it up and took out its heart. "A heart for a heart you vile creature. Your heart will serve as a testament for the crusaders as to what happened to Sir Ilivan."
It's not like Hedda has tupperware but she'll manage to take the claw and heart back with her for display in the lunchroom along with the other things.

CHARACTER ADVANCEMENT
Please provide the new additions in a format similar to the one below (you don't need to spoiler it though:
+1 Dex (4th Level)
+6 HP (class)
+1 HP (constitution)
+1 HP (Toughness)
+1 Bab
+1 Fort
+1 Will
+1 Ref (From Stat Increase)
+1 Divine 2nd level Spell/Day (cleric Spell List) CL 4
+3 Skill Points (2 Class,+1 Human)

+1 to Acrobatics, Ride, Escape artist (+1 Dex increase)
Sacred Weapon (enhance weapon 4 rounds per day)
Channel energy
Favored class bonus (3/6 of a new feat)
WEALTH AT 5TH LEVEL
Your new wealth should be about 10,500 gp (whereas for 4th level it was 6,000 gp).
I realize that I didn't put too much treasure/loot out for you so options:
a) we can upgrade your existing stuff (i.e., a +1 armor worth 1,000 gp is now +2 worth 4,000 gp), or
b) you can tell me what you want (try to be inventive and NOT go for the usual belt/headband stuff).
Of course, we'll see if what you want is 'available'. We'll have some downtime (1 week game time) before your next mission.
So tally up your current wealth and figure out how much you need to add to make it to 10,500 gp.

I would like to continue too! Sorry I've been a bit short recently. I got a head cold, and I think my IQ halved - can't seem to shake it off.
With Kaeda
Arodric handed his wand over to Kaeda "Use it all, if you have to." he said wryly. "It's a long way back."[/b
Wandering like one of the walking wounded he headed over to the prisoners. heal: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 [b]"Oh damn - I don't think they've made it. Is there anything you can do, Kaeda?"
after Hedda
"Thanks Hedda. I... didn't think I was going to make it."
Hedda Halbjørhus |
I would like to continue as well :) I will be having surgery at the beginning of January and may be out of commission for about a week. Good thing is that I should have extra time to post while recovering.
Sabola |
I believe Sabola's 5th level will be Unchained Bsrbarian. The Rage for unchained works differently, and specifically works well with a Des based build, so it seems like a good fit.
