Valeros 878 |
Valeros doesn't have any desire to get close to the oozes, so he continues to hang back and try to kill it with fire.
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 261d6 ⇒ 2
Shouldn't the ooze be on fire? It's taken two direct hits of alchemist's fire so far
DM PeteZero |
Oozes on fire - #11d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 3 second roll already for last hit
#21d6 ⇒ 3
And another sling from Kyra.
Sling: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 4 = 5 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
As the oozes haven taken their Aoo - they go for their regular attacks.
The first tries to squeeze Ezren. CMB: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 23 normal damage: 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 4 + (1, 2) = 16
Constrict: 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 + (2, 4) = 12
as Ezren clothes have dissolved, it is not a pretty sight, seeing the naked man getting squeezed, with acid burns all over his body.
The second goes for Magnus Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 normal damage: 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 + (4, 6) = 19
CMB: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27 Constrict: 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 + (2, 5) = 19
and misses
#1: 21 damage
#2: 5 damage
Kyra does not use her sling - how many channels does she have left?
If she has one left she would use it - 6d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 6, 4, 3) = 17

Bart tries to distract the ooze so that Magnus can get a better hit on it.
Aiding Magnus' next hit (unless someone else (Valeros?) has a bludgeoning weapon and steps in). Probably better than me hitting for 1d4.
mwk light mace: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Flinders Offendurr |
Flinders steps backward and casts another liberating spell, this time on Ezren.
Cast Defensive Concentration DC 17: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 11 + 2 = 25
Liberating Command on Ezren. He can make an Escape check with a +14 from the spell.
Magnus Landros |
Bart, hitting for anything is better than hitting for nothing. I am only going to be doing 1d4+3, but remember the iterative attacks with Haste
Magnus let's fly with his fury. He attacks the one holding Ezren with a full-round attack, holding his currently useless falchion in his off hand.
hammer time!: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 2 = 24 for: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
hammer time!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 for: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
"Let our wizard go, you foul pile of goo!"
Valeros 878 |
With nothing but gauntlets to use on the ooze, Valeros pulls out his potion of Enlarge and chugs it. If he has to smash the goo with his own fists he will.
DM PeteZero |
Magnus hits again. Kyra channels to heal 6d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 6, 4, 6) = 26
#1: 32 damage
#2: 5 damage
With its food gone, the ooze tries to slam Ezren, the other Magnus.
vs. Ezren
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 + (3, 4) = 15
CMB: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17 Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 + (4, 6) = 20

CMB: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 + (6, 5) = 23
if hit Reflex save DC21, if grabbed another Reflex save DC25 to avoid damage to clothing and armor - only Magnus, Ezren is already naked

Aiding is a standard I believe, so I wouldn't have had an iterative last time. I guess I'll just swing at it, I was just figuring it would be better to ensure the big guns hit than my puny 1d4.
Bart quickly pulls out another small mace and continues to swing, using both hands now!
Also, don't forget the +1 to attack from haste! I sure did last time!
mwk light mace: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 15

mwk light mace: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 23

Valeros 878 |
The now hulking Valeros draws forth a heavy mace he'd completely forgotten about and starts to seriously bash the ooze before him. It will let Ezren go or he is going to knock the thing into paste.
full attack with reach: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 212d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 5) + 7 = 171d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 82d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 3) + 7 = 12
Forgot the haste bonuses. add +1 on to all of that, and here is the extra attack
haste attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 142d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 2) + 8 = 12
Magnus Landros |
"Good job there, Valeros! Valiant strikes, though that second one was a bit shaky, hit the blob in the middle, you drunken fool! Ezren, old chum, you should be free now, step back and blast it if you can!"
Assuming that Valeros finished off the one half, Magnus is going to after the other half. With the haste, he attacks twice.
Hammer Time!: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 for: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Hammer Time Again!: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 for: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
"By Abadar, I must remember to invest in a strong secondary weapon, on that I can wield in two hands. This tiny thing does not do nearly the damage I would like!"
Flinders Offendurr |
Flinders should be five feet to the south as he stepped backward last round. I moved him, but he's now adjacent to the ooze again.
Cirling around to the south, Flinders moves up behind Magnus and casts a spell, causing the paladin's outline to waver and blur.
Blur on Magnus
Kyra of the Kyra Order |
Kyra has 1 more channel left. Also a reminder.
This spell wreathes you in flame and causes damage to each creature that attacks you in melee. The flames also protect you from either cold-based or fire-based attacks, depending on if you choose cool or warm flames for your fire shield. Any creature striking you with its body or a hand-held weapon deals normal damage, but at the same time the attacker takes 1d6 points of damage + 1 point per caster level (maximum +15). This damage is either cold damage (if you choose a chill shield) or fire damage (if you choose a warm shield). If the attacker has spell resistance, it applies to this effect. Creatures wielding melee weapons with reach are not subject to this damage if they attack you. When casting this spell, you appear to immolate yourself, but the flames are thin and wispy, increasing the light level within 10 feet by one step, up to normal light. The color of the flames is blue or green if the chill shield is cast, violet or red if the warm shield is employed. The special powers of each version are as follows. Chill Shield: The flames are cool to the touch. You take only half damage from fire-based attacks. If such an attack allows a Reflex save for half damage, you take no damage on a successful saving throw. Warm Shield: The flames are warm to the touch. You take only half damage from cold-based attacks. If such an attack allows a Reflex save for half damage, you take no damage on a successful saving throw.
Bartholomew Robert Flaxseed |
Bart continues to swing is maces wildly.

Valeros 878 |
With a few lumbering steps Valeros comes into range of the second blob and gives it a good thwack. He chuckles as he works. He really should have tried this earlier.
attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 212d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 6) + 8 = 15
DM PeteZero |
And Valeros manages to kill the last ooze. Which was a black puding in disguise
The group relaxes as the final ooze is defeated, only Ezrens clothes were dissolved.
He can sort this out in between
After the encounter you manage to conjure Ossoryol, Master of Lenses & Optics, and listen to the Master’s final lecture on celestial alignment, Part the All.
After this another lengthy academic lecture follows by Erinthander, Grand Provost of Spheres & Glyphs, his platform on the implications of solar sigils & wards, Lesson 2 of 3.
Ossoryol’s lecture gives you another cumulative +2 bonus on the Spellcraft check to operate the orrery, the purpose of Erinthaner's lecture is not quite clear
Being drained of your physical and mental energies - it is night.
Magnus Landros |
Is that a total bonus of +4? How far are we from the Observatory? I'll guess that the third lecture is a clue to something we'll figure out later. I am thinking that we should head back there, and have Ezren or Flinders take an attempt at the check, camp out, and rest for the evening. We can then check out the Armillary Tower (next to the observatory) when rested.
"There is something wrong with my skin... I think I'll need to soak in some water to keep it from drying out. Ezren, is there any magic spells that you have that might help figure out this thing?"
"In any case, when the arcanists are sleeping to restore their energy, I can certainly stand guard part of the night. I am guessing that Valeros and Kyra can do the same. Bart, you'll need to rest as well, right?"
We'll set up watches and make sure that each of us gets enough sleep as to not be fatigued, etc. Someone can sleep while the Ezren (or Flinders) makes his attempt. Since the knowledge apparently cannot be transferred, we'll need to have the person with the highest spellcraft make the attempt... I am guessing that will be Ezren
"Is anyone hurt? Ezren, how are you doing?"
DM PeteZero |
Everyone would get the +4 from the lectures, plus the +5 from the tablet and the +5 from the amulet, but it still makes sense to let the one with the highest spelcraft do the check
During the night -
Flinders 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Kyra 1d20 ⇒ 18
Flinders 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Kyra 1d20 ⇒ 6
the last of you get fully transformed:
and your back hunches, limbs twist, hands and feet become fully webbed (–2 penalty to Dexterity, speed reduced by 5 feet, but gain +4 bonus on Swim checks)
Ezren - pregen - Inash |
Ezren is pretty well battered at this point, as well as nekkid. " I've been better. Getting eaten by slimes was painful. Anybody got a spare cloak or clothes I can borrow? I don't know of any spells to help with any of our conditions."
worst case he gets some rags from the pile of corpses nearby. Ezren's spellcraft is at +15, Flinders (if memory serves) is +14. Magnus can keep his wand of shield, sorry I keep forgetting about it. I'd rather not use up too many consumables on a pre-gen anyway.
Magnus Landros |
Heroism won't last long enough... the check takes 2-5 hours, and heroism only will last 70 minutes from Flinders. Ezren will have a +29 on the check right now. That seems pretty good. Let's have him make a check, and then we can base our "sleep" period on how long he needs to make the check.
Also, now it seems that Magnus has lost 1 LOH/day, and Kyra has lost 1 channel/day. Before we sleep, we should get everyone to full.
Magnus will use one of his Lay on Hands to help Ezren.
LOH w/ Greater Mercy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 5) = 10
If the night goes without incident, Magnus will use his last LOH on Ezren as well.
LOH w/Greater Mercy: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5) = 11
Valeros 878 |
Valeros takes his turn at watch and otherwise sleeps fitfully as his organs shift and squirm. He keeps his heavy mace close at hand.
Kyra of the Kyra Order |
15% spell failure!!!! That's painful.
Kyra will expend every single spell on healing and using up her last channel to heal up the party. She'lll also cast create water on Magnus.
Kyra discovers to her great displeasure her voice as she attempts to pray for spells.
Oh Croak[i] Sarenae, I bessech you to grant your [i]croak servant your divine croak grace....." the rest of her prayers getting softer as some words end up garbled and her tongue slaps the roof of her mouth.....
She is pissed.
Magnus Landros |
Magnus approaches the man, "Good day, sir! What can we do for you?"
after healing overnight is Ezren still down CON?
Magnus Landros |
Asking, because Magnus can have up to 3 Lesser Restorations this day.

ah. With the smite and all, AC was up to 26, so that missed, thankfully. DM Pete may have missed the increased AC from the Smite Evil. Saved Magnus more than once. AC is current 29 (smite, haste, attack on defensive)
