Flinders and Kyra hold for the moment, as they wait for the octopus, which crawls out of the pool. Barthomolew goes small and then the thing goes for Valeros.

Magnus will charge the beast, attacking with power attack.

Flinders Offendurr |
Sorry, was away yesterday. If Flinders still has his surprise action, he would cast Glitterdust on the octopus, DC 16, then attacked this round. Otherwise, he'll cast it this round.
Bartholomew Robert Flaxseed |
Bart finishes his spell, now even smaller than usual. He steps up to the octopus while drawing his mithral dagger and stabs.
It is blind, which I believe means it loses its dex bonus and I get sneak attack. I also have to enter its square to attack, but it can't see me so it shouldn't provoke I think.
+1 mithral dagger: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Confirm!
+1 mithral dagger: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Magnus Landros |
So: all 3 crit threats hit, but Valeros takes only 38 damage, but is still grappled, and the thing is blind.
So, does Magnus hit, then, with the Octopus's AC reduced by 2 and losing DEX to his AC (due to being blinded)?

DM PeteZero |
With the last scorching ray, flesh sizzles and the smell of burned flesh waves through the building - the octopus succumbs and finally the grip on valeros releases. Searching the aquariumn you find a decaying gillman, who lies toward the rear of the building. He wears a cloak of the manta ray and holds a corroded copper scroll case containing two scrolls of freedom of movement. An elixir of swimming is tucked in the cloak’s interior pocket.
And again the magic of the island tries to transform you.
FORT saves:
Flinders 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Bartholomew 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Magnus 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
DM PeteZero |
After you have searched the building you move along to the north shore - B2:
An entire section of the island has plunged to sea level here, forming a sunken cove far below the streets of the city above. Among the toppled towers punctuating this beach, a rough canal cuts from the shore deep into the interior of the island, disappearing into a dark cave mouth in the cliff wall. Seawater in the trench rises and falls with the tide. Dozens of exhausted villagers excavate the canal with crude shovels and large clamshells scavenged from the nearby beach.
The cliffs drop 180 feet to the beach below.
Valeros 878 |
Valeros, looking extremely green about the face, stumbles away from the fallen foe and vomits copiously.
Recovering, he stumbles along and says " Can we go home now? I don't like this place anymore."
Magnus Landros |
Hoping to help the poor fighter, Magnus steps up to him, touching him, bathing him with the healing power granted to him by Abadar.
"I am sorry, my friend, but these poor people still need our help. Hopefully we can save them before we have been changed too much. There is an obvious corruption here, at least of the body, if not more. We must finish what we started. Caiden Caylean would be proud of your courage."
Assuming he does not have the sickened condition. If so, remove the last die.

Flinders Offendurr |
Any kind of Knowledge to understand what is going on with the transformations?
Flinders peers down at the people. "What in the Nine Hells are they doing? Does anyone see a way down?"
Magnus Landros |
Magnus points towards the southern cliff, and says, "You mean, other than the stairs over there?" He shrugs his shoulders, and walks over to the stairs. Guess it is time to descend.
Valeros 878 |
Valeros chugs his potion of Cure Serious Wounds and groans. He has not drunk nearly enough to feel this bad.

You follow the trench which leads into a cave in the cliff face, 50
feet deep and 30 feet wide, eerily lit by globes.
The canal extends for the length of the cave and terminates at a partially uncovered wall of strange, sculpted coral.
Bartholomew Robert Flaxseed |
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
"Do you hear that? Metal against stone, like chiseling or mining or something, I think."
Magnus Landros |
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Huh? What?
"More globes? We should be more careful this time. Valeros, please don't poke them."
Out of curiosity (it happens), Magnus looks at the globes with his Detect Evil ability. He never took the chance with the other ones.
Flinders Offendurr |
Flinders peers around. "Aye, more wisps. Stay your blade Val. It looks like the coral is a foundation of sorts." Cocking his head, he says. "I hear it too. Something trying undermine the foundation?"

Magnus Landros |
Seeing that the situation merits some caution, Magnus tries to convey his message in a less than obvious manner...
bluff to convey secret message: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Surprisingly, he does a relatively good job of it...
"Hey, um, guys? These things are mildly evil. Let's be careful."
Out of caution, he draws his falchion, but does not approach the globes.
Valeros 878 |
With a groan Valeros replies to Flinders "Ugh. No problem. Floaty lights can float all they want for all I care."
DM PeteZero |
It would be hard work to reach the villagers - and from what you have seen there seem to be lots of guards, more than you can handle. As you come back up a woman breaks from the overgrown ruins ahead, shrieking as three dark shapes bear down on her. The creatures look like flying mats of tangled seaweed, but with toothy maws. The woman abruptly stops, cut off in mid-scream, as the closest creature moans horribly, then drops down and completely engulfs her.

Kyra of the Kyra Order |
"What by the light is that?" Kyra exclaims.
Bartholomew Robert Flaxseed |
Bart always acts in the surprise round.
Surprise round:
Bart moves closer to the nearest creature, drawing a dagger along the way.

Bart steps next to one of the creatures and calls out to his companions, "Get on the other side and distract it!"

Valeros 878 |
Valeros is, of course, nauseated the first round.
Trying to hold on to his traitor stomach, Valeros can do no more than move up and draw his swords. He tries a battle cry, but it comes out more like "Hwaaoooough!?"
Flinders Offendurr |
KN: dungeoneering: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

Description
You unleash an insulting tirade so vicious and spiteful that enemies who hear it are physically scorched by your fury. When you cast this spell, make an Intimidate check to demoralize each enemy within 30 feet of you. Enemies that are demoralized this way take 1d10 points of fire damage and must succeed at a Reflex save or catch fire. Spell resistance can negate the fire damage caused by this spell, but does not protect the creature from the demoralizing effect.
Magnus Landros |
Called into battle once more. Magnus charges straight forward, attacking the beast that Bart is next to. What it might be, he doesn't know, but it must die, so that he can save the woman.

Kyra casts spiritual weapon on cloaker 1:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
They both move 5ft and moan.
Two WILL saves each, except from Kyra, DC15 or become panicked for 2 rounds.
Magnus Landros |
Magnus is immune to fear, and everyone within 10' of him will get +4 to their will save due to his Aura of Courage. Unfortately at this time, that would appear to be no one. Assuming that it is our turn, I will declare Magnus's move.
Magnus 5'steps to five Bart a flank. He will then Detect Evil on the Cloaker. If it is evil, he will declare a Smite Evil (I assume that they are not).
The then attacks, taking advantage of the flank (unless Bart fails his save, please adjust the attack appropriately).

Barthomolew misses, as does Flinders, Magnus and Kyra. Ezren hits, and Valeros does not charge - he drops his weapon and runs, screaming - for 2 rounds. Kyra casts bless.
it is panicked condition: A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. It can't take any other actions.
One cloaker tries to extinguish the flames.

Cloaker 1: 5 damage
Cloaker 2: 19 damage
The cloaker manages to extinguish the fire - and the other one moans again - Barthomolew WILL save DC15 or be affected by hold monster for 5 rounds.
Group is up.
Magnus Landros |
Magnus will 5' step and ready an attack for when Bart has either run away, or moved into a flanking position. At that time, he will power attack.
Power Attack w/Flank: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 amazingly has a chance to hit and do damage for:: 2d4 + 10 ⇒ (4, 2) + 10 = 16
Magnus needs to remember he has a Wand of Shield, and start using it on the first round of combat. SIGH. Silly Paladins.
EDIT: Corrected typos

Corrected the typo on the damage. Major oops. Did not smite, FYI.
