Magnus knows that he is not known for his perceptiveness, nor his agility. However, just in case there is some greater religious influence on this, he'll carefully start moving forward. This whole apparatus is mystifying to Magnus, obviously something of ancient Azlant origin. Maybe it will give him clues into gaining Aroden's grace?
In any case, if it is dangerous, he is more than willing to "take one for the team".
I assume that we'll keep the rolls above, once we've gotten into the correct position?
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
| DM PeteZero |
As you move forward - surprise!
Initiatives:
Flinders 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Valeros 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Ezren 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Kyra 1d20 ⇒ 4
Bartholomew 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Magnus 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Spiders 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
ooc: As only Bart has an option to go in the surprise round, he notices something will happen, the rest is surprised! Or can someone see into the etheral plane?
Magnus notices that while in the area there is a certain chance that random, not pleasant effects might occur.
1d100 ⇒ 55
Bartholomew Robert Flaxseed

Bart hurriedly backs away when he notices something going wrong. He draws a dagger and takes a defensive stance. move away, free to draw dagger, and standard to go total defense (bandit archetype lets me take full actions in surprise)
| DM PeteZero |
Two large spiders appear next to Ezren, try to bite him - and disappear again.
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6) + 7 = 18
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4) + 7 = 14
if hit DC18 Fort save on failure: Constitution damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1 - cure 2 consecutive saves
Group is up - spiders are gone
Valeros 878
|
Valeros wastes a moment dry heaving as the influence of the island continues to plague him, then manages to get his swords up into a defensive stance.
nauseated first round. Ready action to attack should foes appear next round
| Kyra of the Kyra Order |
Oh Oh..
Kyra prepares herself to strike upon seeing the spiders!! Moving up closer to Erzen...
Ready action to strike spiders in range.
Scimitar 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 111d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Magnus Landros
|
Magnus moves next to Ezren, blade in hand. "Ezren, Kyra, can you make them show up? What are these things?"
He will ready an attack for when he can see a spider.
readied power attack against a spider: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 damage: 2d4 + 10 ⇒ (2, 2) + 10 = 14
crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 additional damage: 2d4 + 10 ⇒ (4, 3) + 10 = 17
Flinders Offendurr
|
Flinders moves up toward Ezren and calls out. "Everyone, come circle up around our astounding arcanist! We can provide a wall and let him blast these foul spiders!"
Move to Ezren and ready to cast Good Hope once everyone is in range (hard to tell distance on the map)
| Kyra of the Kyra Order |
"Already here and no by Sarenae! I don't know what kind of bugs they are..." Kyra responds, her scimitar in hand at the ready.
| DM PeteZero |
To shorten the discussion, I moved you to a) protect Ezren, b) they cannot flank. In the end you must go in the room and fight them, no other option - as you move the first round they do not attack but then the next round
Possible effect
Flinders 1d100 ⇒ 41
Valeros 1d100 ⇒ 4
Ezren 1d100 ⇒ 50
Kyra 1d100 ⇒ 87
Bartholomew 1d100 ⇒ 99
Magnus 1d100 ⇒ 79
Flinders 1d6 ⇒ 5
Valeros 1d6 ⇒ 6
Ezren 1d6 ⇒ 3
As you move around, the strange observatory seems to have an effect on some of you:
Flinders: Spatial Ambiguity spell effect (target subject to blink for
1d6 ⇒ 1 rounds, DC 15 Will negates)
Valeros: Stray Starlight (target subject to greater invisibility, silence, and confusion for 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 rounds, DC 23 Will negates)
Ezren: Astral Shunt spell effect (target subject to blur for 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 rounds, DC 15 Will negates)
Then the spiders appear, and your readied effects go off (anyone who has not done so please roll - as they go for Magnus - Flinders casts good hope, Valeros can still attack if he makes his save - if not roll for confusion effect, and Kyra), Magnus manages a crit on one spider.
Attack on Magnus
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4) + 7 = 14
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 1) + 7 = 13
if hit DC18 Fort save on failure: Constitution damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1
hope you are fine with the setup. Basically a combat you cannot avoid, and not easy to run with PbP and under time constraint
Spider 1: 31 damage
Magnus Landros
|
fort save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Magnus will "touch himself" lay on hands: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3) = 7
If he can see the spider, Magnus will attack.. Otherwise, he will ready to attack when he sees the thing.
power attack, etc: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 for Damage: 2d4 + 12 ⇒ (4, 4) + 12 = 20
Bartholomew Robert Flaxseed
|
Ready from last round if I could have hit them:
+1 mithral dagger: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 9 - 1 = 26
damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
+1 mithral dagger: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 1 = 13
damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
| Ezren - pregen - Inash |
Readied action:
"They are called phase spiders. The come in and out of the ethereal plane to attack. Nothing we can do but try to be ready.
fort save for skipped round: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
con damage if needed: 1d2 ⇒ 1
fort save for previous round: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
con damage if needed: 1d2 ⇒ 2
fort save for current round if needed: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
con damage if needed: 1d2 ⇒ 1
so still need 2 consective saves, and am down 4 con. so 18 and 14 damage + 14 from con damage = 46. So Ezren is at 9 hp.
| Kyra of the Kyra Order |
Kyra once more readies her scimitar to attack.
"They keep appearing and then disappearing. Keep an eye out for them and then strike!"
Ready attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 191d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Magnus Landros

"Kyra, we need to keep Ezren standing! Heal him if you can! Do whatever you can to keep him alive! Ezren, drink an antivenom, if you have one!"
Flinders, doesn't look like he did, but it won't matter with a DC18
'What are these creatures? They act like no spiders that I have ever seen!!!'
| Kyra of the Kyra Order |
"I hear you." Kyra prepares to the power of her goddess on her turn....
Kyra Channels on her turn...6d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 4, 5, 6) = 27, excluding the spiders.

Again the spiders go for Magnus:

Bart will again ready his dagger in case a spider comes out next to him.

Readied Attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 261d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
| DM PeteZero |
Kyra and Ezren hit the spider, the rest of the group misses. again the spiders appear, attack Magnus and vanish.

Flinders: Spatial Ambiguity spell effect (target subject to blink for
1d6 ⇒ 4 rounds, DC 15 Will negates)

Magnus Landros

As this would bring Magnus to -6 hp, as an immediate action, he will cast Hero's Defiance
hero's defiance LOH: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 1) = 18
Magnus is now at 12hp. likely that another double strike that that will kill him.
As this was an immediate action, he does not have a swift action to use on Lay on Hands this round.
A look of concern on his face, Magnus steels himself for what is coming next. He has faced death before, but these spiders might actually have him taking a trip to the First Vault. Knowing full well that if he drops, the wizard will be vulnerable, he yells out, "Kyra, a channel would be very appropriate at this time! Just avoid healing those spiders!" If they are in the Ethereal Plane, they should not be affected. If they are on this plane, Kyra should be able to select them out.
However, he has never shirked from his duty, so will ready an attack, hoping to drop one. "Abadar, οδηγός χτύπημα μου!"
falchion power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 for: 2d4 + 10 ⇒ (1, 1) + 10 = 12
| Kyra of the Kyra Order |
"Oh Sarenae, hear my plea for our plight is dire indeed." Kyra calls upon her patron to heal her allies without aiding her enemies.
Selective Channelling, not healing those OMG spiders.... 6d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 6, 1, 6) = 24

On vacation and only have small windows to check posts. If I'm holding up progress, bot please.
Magnus Landros

Kyra can just channel when they are gone.
Can't you use a swift action instrad of a move? Not 100% familiar with the swift/immediate actions though
No, you cannot promote a Swift to a Move action. I don't have the reference handy, but I am pretty sure that this is the case. Basically, it does not explicitly allow for multiple swift actions, so you cannot do it. Probably a good thing, otherwise you could cast 2 quickened spells, and a standard action casting all in one round.
"Thank you, Kyra. I am sure that Ezren is also appreciative!"
Valeros 878
|
Valeros reappears, stumbling and bloody, and blinking in and out, but seemingly in control now. He looks about for the spiders.
Ready action attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 281d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
| DM PeteZero |
Again the spiders appear and attack:
Spider 2: 35 damage
vs Magnus
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6) + 7 = 18
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 3) + 7 = 16
if hit DC18 Fort save on failure: Constitution damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
But Magnus hits back and brings the first spider down!
Also Valeros, Flinders and Ezren hit.
crit confirm to for Flinders:

fort save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
As he strikes one spider, finally slaying it, the other bites him, injecting its vile poison. For a moment, searing pain runs from the wound, but he shakes it off. Feeling the effects of the combat, Magnus calls forth the power of Abadar's heals himself, and continues to fight.
LOH: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) = 10
"Let us finish this! Ezren, how are you feeling?"
readied power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 for: 2d4 + 10 ⇒ (3, 1) + 10 = 14
| DM PeteZero |
And with this as the spider reappears - trying again to bite Magnus
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 1) + 7 = 12
And another Fort save DC18 if hit or loose 1d2 ⇒ 2 Con
Then Magnus strikes, killing the spider.
As Magnus' strike went deep - an amulet spills out of the spider's belly. After some investigation you determine it is an Armillary Amulet - which protects against the strange phenomen in the observatory and gives +5 to spellcraft checks.
Looking at the observatory you find an instructional stele carrying a warning to students to wear their “armillary amulets.”
You figure, that you need to shut down the glyph to influence the magic of the island.
Figuring out the complicated arcane technology to shut down the orrery’s amplification glyph requires a Spellcraft check after intense studies.
You cannot take 10 or 20, due to the movement in the area. If someone wants to assist - I need to know, as only one person can be protected and thus is not affected by the observatory
Lookinbg around the room, you find instructional steles inscribed in the Azlanti tongue hover in stationary positions around the room, and one that has received recent attention.
| Kyra of the Kyra Order |
Oh dear lord... Kyra doesn' have any spellcraft to save her skin....I suppose Dispel magic is out of the question as well.....
