@Aurora: Roll your burst!

Assuming that Aurora's burst is 3 or more.

Ameiko's eyes flutter open as she sees your faces. Where am I? Am I back at the Rusty Dragon? The last thing I remember is slapping my brother when he wanted me to join him. He then turned me over to his goblins. I must warn my father!

Feel Free to RP Here.

Moving quickly to the office, you gather up your weapons. Ameiko grabs her own weapon.

Perception DC15:
You notice a small, leather-bound booklet open on the desk that looks like Tsuto was writing in.

Knowing time is running short, you head to the tunnel, explaining to Ameiko that it is strange it just ends. Let me take a look! Ameiko says as she examines the wall.

Ameiko's perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Hello! What's this? She says as she trips a level that opens a secret door that opens into a cave as René mentions he hears the return of Mr Crazypants.

You notice a crude collection of goblin beds or remnants of their meals strewn about the cave. The cave slopes down to a beach on the Varision gulf.

What next? Fight Tsuto in the cave or escape back to town?

Letting out a burst of healing magic and oh she wakes up. "We can deal with him later and with the guard beside us. But we need to leave. You are injured and we are not in the best shape." Aurora would move to help Ameiko up and towards the apparent secret passageway.

You are able to make it to town without incident and without pursuit. Ameiko would like to get healed up and head to Kaijitsu Manor to let her father know about Tsuto.

Feel free to RP this out.

Heading to the Sheriff, you quickly recount to Sheriff Hemlock what you uncovered. He sends a detachment of deputies to investigate. Aurora hands him the book that turns out to be Tsuto's journal. This small, leather-bound booklet contains two dozen parchment pages, most
of which Tsuto has filled with maps of Sandpoint or erotic drawings of some woman.

Knowledge (Local) DC15:
The woman is Nualia-the presumed-dead adopted daughter of Father Tobyn and the one that Tsuto wanted to take you to so you can be burned.

The maps each depict different attack plans. The first set shows the attack plans for a group of 30 goblins—one of these battle maps is circled, which you recognize as the attack the goblins made on Sandpoint a few days prior.

Of more pressing concern are the next several pages, which illustrate an assault on Sandpoint by a force of what appears to be 200 goblins. None of these are circled and many are scratched out as if they’ve been rejected.

The sheriff, usually a dour man, looks even more dour. This is not good. Not good at all! I think we need to capture and interrogate Tsuto and you are just the ones to do it! Rest up and if you could, head back out to The Glassworks tomorrow.

René makes a rather comical face as he rather audibly gulps, pulling at the collar of his shirt as though it was suddenly choking him. In the heat of Oh crap, we need to get out he had missed her earlier query. He's about to break the bad news when a solid kick to his leg gives him pause. Moving back towards Aurora, he whispers to her, "I kin tell her if ya want, but...I might go over better if someone better with the talkin' did it..."

Local: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

As René flips through the book he stops at one particularly, ahem, interesting drawing, raising his eyebrow at it. Part way up its creep towards his hairline, the eyebrow freezes as a look or realization and horror takes over his expression.

"Celestial taint," "her father's body," "Tobyn's casket".

All color drained from his face as the pieces clicked in to place. Just a quickly the color returned, but it was more of a sickly green color as he began suppressing the urge to vomit. Dear gods above, whomever is listening, if you can grant me one thing in my life, let it be this: let Nualia never have died as was believed. Please, just please don't let him be in love with a former corpse.

He manages to gain control of his gag reflex just in time to hear the Captain's announcement. With a yelp, he manages to spit out "What?!? But...yer comin' with right? Or gunna send backup?" His voice is noticeably higher than normal at the prospect of going back in to face the same man who had almost killed Tylur already.

Walking back and letting one of the men help Ameiko walk if she still needs it. Taking a quick look though the journal and just as quickly shutting it. Cheeks darkening as she tucks it back into her belt.

----

Looking down at Ameiko wish to speak to family. Nodding to René before moving closer to Ameiko so that she is able to speak quietly and not have anything over heard, "I really hate to have to be the one to tell you this but while we were looking for you we found your father there." Biting her lip and forcing herself to look Ameiko in the eye, "He is with the Gods now. I promise we will bring him back though."

Aurora will stay with Ameiko as long as the woman wants her to before going to take the journal to the guards.

-----

Glancing over the book again. Better steeled against the drawling.

Planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Quasit sounds like it would be a planes roll.
Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Bugbears sound like a nature roll.
Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 Tell me about Lamastu!

Why would she want to remove the celestial gift she was born with?

Looking up at the sheriff with wide eyes, "Have you lost your mind? Why would only the four of us go there, alone?"

Standing up strait and glaring at the sheriff, "René is right we need some help in this. That madman is talking about a massive attack on the city and he has bugbears! By all means get the town ready for an attack but we have no idea what we will find back there."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Sucking in a breath and steadying herself, "My apologizes for my outburst. Exhaustion has taken hold of my tongue. If you think you can spare some to come with us we would greatly appreciate it. Though if you cannot since I am sure Tsuto is reading the attack I completely understand."

Reaching out and tapping the journal again, "Underground tunnels are referenced. Are there maps?"

Reinforcing on the sheriff while waiting for an answer before speaking again, "Is there anything you could send us with to help us bring Tsuto to justice?"

Hemlock smiles slightly.

I don't want to speak ill of our newly departed noble, but there are rumors that the Kaijitsu's made the bulk of their fortune not just glass making, but also smuggling and they unfortunately never shared that with the law. So if the tunnels do exist, I don't know anything about them.

@Aurora:
Lamashtu is the mother and patroness of many misshapen and malformed creatures that crawl, slither, or flap on, above, or below the surface of Golarion. Her unholy symbol is a three-eyed jackal head, which may be represented in many ways, and her sacred animal is the jackal.

Lamashtu's favor manifests as violent dreams, the appearance of sudden deformities, or unexplained pregnancies that often result in the painful (and sometimes fatal) birth of a deformed child. Worshipers who displease her may give birth to a "perfect" child, such as a human or halfling, nightmares, or welts. They may also find themselves infertile or unable to achieve sexual satisfaction.

Lamashtu and her deranged faithful hold creatures of deformity, monstrosity, and virility in high regard. Thaumaturges and clerics in her service often call shemhazian demons and other Abyssal creatures into their service. Her divine servitor race are the swaithe demons, foul creatures that incite animals to attack civilized society.

Cordwin scratches his head. Quasit...Quasit...I've heard of them, but that's all I can tell you. But Bugbears, I know about bugbears! Bugbears are the largest of the goblinoid races. That probably is why it is hanging out with goblins! When they do hang out with goblins, they usually function as elite guards or executioners. Nasty creatures as they usually sport grisly trophies of ears or fingers. At this Cordwin unconsciously looks down at his hands. Bugbears, when they turn to religion, favor gods of murder and violence so this Lamashtu is right up their alley. They are big critters. They are about 7 feet in height and weigh 400 pounds!

We will make sure to bring this man back for questioning."

"Prolly the gobblies. There were others they had killed similar-like: covered in glass. Though he had carved th' word 'father' on it." Truth be told, René was guessing about that (well, at least about who had actually done it. He was pretty sure the goblins hadn't written anything given their views of the written word). But even if he were wrong, surely it was better to be told amoral monsters did it than your own flesh and blood, right?

-----

René rolls his eyes as Tylur continues to insist upon referring to them as the 'Heroes of Sandpoint'. Had Tylur even done anything during the initial goblin raid? The Varisian couldn't remember seeing him. But then, he himself had seemingly done nothing and somehow gotten lumped with the title. Now with the Sheriff's complete willingness to send them into a fight with a crazy man (who most likely would be prepared for them and have more goblin buddies to back them up) with literally no backup save for some sticks (one of which was all but useless) and a potion, he was beginning to suspect more and more that they were naught but a morale-boost-cum-sacrificial-lamb.

"Go 'head. Go get healed up. I needta go an' drink myself inta a looonnnnnngggg nap. I reckon I could find that northerner ta at least join me fer that, if not the resta it. Meetcha back at the Rusty Dragon fer a final drink?"

Cordwin would like to follow to René to the Rusty Dragon. For one, to see how Ameiko was doing and second, his belly was rumbling. But he wanted to see how Father Zantus reacts to news of his predecessor's remains being burnt and the existence of the supposed-dead Nualia. Keep a bar stool open for me and I'll join you shortly! Cordwin calls at the witch.

NARRATOR Skirgaard GS Map / SS MAP/

Father Zantus is absolutely shocked at the news. Inconceivable! He says as he heals Tylur's wounds. Tylur is at full hp. If she is still alive and she is trying to transform herself into a demon that is a shame. Such a pretty girl I heard tell. Father Zantus shakes his head. This is bad! Very bad! If you will be taken on this Tsuto again you must have help! I cannot spare any acolytes if this town is to be attacked again, but perhaps this can help. He reaches into his robe and pulls out two wands. Here is a wand of cure moderate wounds with Charges: 1d5 ⇒ 5 charges and a wand of bless with Charges: 1d10 ⇒ 8 charges. It is not much, but it is all I can spare.

'I should not fault him.' He sits down beside Réne and calls the serving girl to bring whatever his companion is drinking.

"One drink but not our last Réne. The Heroes of Sandpoint will find a way through this."

'At least I hope we will.'

"Father Zantus provided us with these two items. One will heal our wounds and the other will provide the courage to see us through the battle."

Taking advantage of his alone time, René contacts a few people who point him in the direction of a shop he's looking for. Once inside, he quickly procures a small item (I'm guess that's not going to be too hard to find. Correct me if I'm wrong), sighing mournfully at its price. He could buy at least a week's worth of good food for that, and it had taken him months of lame-ass fortune telling gigs to make that much. Admittedly, the gigs were easy enough--nearly always someone asking about their soul mate or riches--but there were only so many people in a town who could be tempted that way.

His mental complaints were interrupted by a hard kick from his bag. After all, coin would do him no good if he were dead. And it was still worthwhile to hide his "gifts". After all, if the Sheriff and others were willing to send a "useless" villager to deal with such big threats, who knew what kind of danger he'd be pushed into if the others actually knew of his spellcasting. But still, a small voice in his head insisted But what if they do already know? As you say, why sent some random person into these situations? Ameiko at least seemed to have some idea... But he quickly pushed those thoughts away. No, he had been too careful. He had only cast that one spell thus far and no one had said anything. They seemed, on the whole, to be ignoring his odd eccentricities. Which was good. René looked down at the small cylinder in his hand. Hopefully my ruses will work for a bit longer, eh?

-----

Luckily, René manages to make it back still well before the others. Most likely Cordwin got distracted chatting with someone or the other. He quickly grabs a few tankards, one with ale the other two empty, and mixes the drink back and forth between them to at least give the impression that he'd been there a while. Despite what he had said, he was in no mood to get drunk. With a foe like Tsuto, he couldn't afford to go in with a hangover. He does at least take a few sips, trying to dull the edge of anxiety in the pit of his stomach.

As he settles in to his spot, he places Hadley on the table and begins quietly conversing with/communing with him. It's mostly meaningless and more of a show for any who might choose to watch. But after a while, he takes a quick break to head to a hallway with some privacy to make a few gestures before coming back. Casting Lucky number

Not too long after that, the rest of the group comes in. When Tylur shows him the wands he heartily, if a tad sarcastically (if that's possible), claps him on the back. "Oh goodie! More schticks ta poke Mr Fishty Cuffs with."

And Tylur's lucky number for the next 24 hours is 1d20 ⇒ 19. Once in the next 24 hours, if you roll a 19 you can choose to either reroll or add a +2 luck bonus to that roll. The decision must be made before success or failure is known. Admittedly, perhaps not that useful since that's a high number anyway. But *shrug*. We're going to sleep, so I'll get that spell slot back anyway.

Kendra welcomes her cousin in and promptly puts on some tea. While the two of them are sitting in her parlor sipping the tea, Kendra chuckles at the mention of the tunnels. Ah! The Kaijitsu tunnels! Long rumored but never proven. I did hear tell that Sczarni thugs use them but trying to get the vermin to talk is another matter!

@Aurora: Knowledge (Local) DC 15:
The Sczarni are a loose collection of Varisian crime families, operating primarily in the cities and towns of Varisia, but found wherever significant numbers of Varisians gather.

When Aurora asks if she has anything. She shakes her head. Now you know dear, I am an administrator and diplomat so I don't have any magic or arms to aid you in your quest. Wait..that's not true. I do have this. She goes to her desk and pulls out an ornate silver dagger. This was given to me by a pactmaster from Katapesh that was traveling through a long time ago. He wanted to marry me and take me home with him. He said my hair was as red as the desert sun! She sighs wistfully remembering the long ago romance. Anyway, I heard some creatures don't like silver... She says as she offers the dagger helpfully. As far as advice, the Kaijitsu's were always...uh..lower nobles who were tolerated. Can't say I know much about any of them. Only that the Rusty Dragon serves some of the best lamb broth in town! Please be careful. Do you really have to go? Even with the coming raid, Sandpoint would be safer than where you are going! Let the others take care of it! You don't owe them anything no matter how important their mission is.

Cordwin sees Ameiko give Aurora a hug, say somethings and shoe the young woman back to the group. How's the Lass takin' it? Cordwin asks as Aurora sits down. For all intents and purposes, the Lass lost both her Da and brother in the same day! Cordwin tsks audibly. Well should we have a tankard and plan how we are goin' to defeat this Tsuto character? Frowning at the mention of the Sczarni Right on the edge of my mind..

Smirking at her cousins wistful expression and grinning at her, "I do not recall hearing about any of that."

Taking the dagger and looking it over while Kendra continues to talk. Looking away from the silver blade and at Kendra, "You know I have had that very thought I do not know how many times since I helped them with that goblin the other day."

Laying the dagger down before continuing, "But the idea of not helping leaves a sour feeling. I have never done anything really worth while in my life Kendra. Like nothing at all." Looking down, "Well nothing helpful that is. I need to do this and I have no real idea why. Maybe it is my price for coming back. I do not owe the 'heroes' anything and I am not doing it for them. I think I am doing it for me, I think."

Shaking off her morose thoughts and grinning at her cousin, "I have never managed a whirlwind romance and maybe this will help me towards that. Your heroes are rather attractive after all. And if not that then it will work towards my end goals anyways. You need to worry about you town and not me. I have already died once and I do not plan on doing that until I am old an grey."

Reaching over and hugging Kendra and grabbing the silver dagger, "I promise I will bring it back when we are done. Thank you." Standing up and moving to leave but stopping short. Looking over at her cousin with a sheepish grin, "If you could not mention this to the rest of the family though that would be great. I will tell them but I want to be the one to do it. And I promise when I do I will say you tried very hard to stop me. But I am a stubborn child after all." That said Aurora moves to leave.

---- Rusty Dragon

Accepting the hug and mumbling, "If you need anything please let me know."

Once shooed away Aurora heads over to the table the Heroes of Sandpoint are sitting at. "Olaff is probably sleeping off his hangover."

Glancing back over at Ameiko then back at Cordwin, "She is taking it in stride. She has her work to giver her purpose and during a time of loss that is very important. I worry she will over work herself but not much can be done about that."

René squints at the dwarf. Adopting the profoundly wise expression only achievable by those who've had a couple ales first, he poses a question to the bard. "Shayy Cordwin, how's you feel 'bout this 'ere whole 'heroes o' Sandpoint'-y thing?" Tylur had quickly taken to the whole thing like a hog to mud. Probably either a hopeless romantic or trying to make amends for some past sin. Aurora, well, it was a bit unclear if she was actually included in the moniker or not, but she at least seemed intent upon hanging around, though he had no idea why. Possibly one of those bleeding hearts do-gooders? First with the healing the injured and then with the making sure people were ok emotionally or something. Not that that was a bad thing. Hell, that's exactly the sort of person you want around you. Just...not the sort of person you generally wanted to be given that it tended to come with a side dish of inevitable death saving small children from a burning orphanage or some such rubbish. He was curious to see where the last member of their group fell on the topic.

"As fer Tshuto, we will definite win. We gotsh four" he holds up three fingers "magical pointy schticks and one schtone. We can't lose." It's a little unclear if this is meant as sarcasm or drunken optimism.

Glancing over at René, "Should you have had that much to drink before we go? You are going to feel horrid in the morning." Not that we can afford that. What is it with men and drinking so much?

Looking around and trying to catch one of the people working. Once she has spotted one Aurora walks over and mumbles. "My companion has gotten a little to into his drink and I was wondering if you knew where I could buy some alchemist’s kindness." Grinning, "I really do not want to deal with a hungover man for the second day in a row."

Tylur keeps up a good face. Underneath he was scared.

'Heroes of Sandpoint. Real heroes don't run away. We should be dead. That brother of Lady Ameiko didn't even sweat when he hit me. It was like he was just toying with us. And now? Now we are about to back after him and I know he's waiting for us.'

Tylur smiles. "Well what are we waiting for let's go. The longer we sit here the more preparations we will have waiting for us. To the HEROES OF SANDPOINT!" he finishes the last of his drink and slams the empty flagon on the table causing anyone else in the Rusty Dragon to quickly turn their attention to their table.

'A little too enthusiastic I guess.' but keeps on smiling and nodding to any townsfolk whose eyes he meets.

Cordwin looks into his tankard of ale reflectively. I guess its all right. Before I was a hero people would tell me stories, since I have been labeled a hero, people want to hear my stories. I don't learn much talkin' about meself.

It's not Tsuto I'm worried about. well I am worried about him. I am more worried about how many goblin buddies he has with him!.

Codwin gets caught up in Tylur's enthusiasm snapping him out of his contemplative mood. Here! Here! He shouts before downing his tankard. If we die may we have a place of honor in Torag's forge!

The bar maid nods sympathetically. I hear ya sister! If men were as brave as they thought they were while drinking instead of the louts they actually are, the world would be a better place. she says with a wink and chuckle. I have just the thing. Wait here. She returns a few moments later. Should help sober him up and allow him to..uh..perform. She gives Aurora another wink.

René waves Aurora off. "Pshhh, ish fine. I gots herbal remedies. And can hold my lick'er--I hardly knew 'er."

He then makes an expression that is possibly meant to be a grin, but looks a lot more like a grimace as Tylur makes a loud toast. Maybe I should have waited to ask Cordwin when Tylur wasn't around. Ignoring the toast, he leans in and fake-conspiratorially "whispers" to Cordwin, "Thash why ya gotta go where everyone knows yer name. Or was it no one? Or...ya pretend ta be a woman, so no one recognishzes ya." He taps the side of his nose in a knowing way.

Leaning back, he returns to his normal volume. "Gobblies ain't shoo tuff. 'Less there's lots of 'em. Then...schtill not soo tuff. But they gets lucky blows. Ish why," he lifts of Hadley, who for his part gives René an indignant 'put me down this instant!' look, "I has five lucky rabbit's feet." Hadley then attempts to bite his finger, forcing René to drop him and letting him scurry off below the table.

Despite the near miss, a shiver runs down the Varisian's spine as Aurora chats up the bar maid. He's filled with a foreboding sense that something terrible was about to happen to him. Which he then shrugs off, assuming that it must be the inevitable near-death experience that would greet him on the morrow.

Cheeks darkening and looking down but taking the item. Right the only thing I could be wanting right now is a bed companion. Couldn't possibly be anything else. Mumbling, "Thank you. What do I owe you."

Cheeks still rather flushed and a sour look on Aurora's face as she returns to the group and setting her painfully procured item down. Glaring at René, "This will keep you from being to distracted by the morning pains of the drink. And I heard you joke, just so you know. I am going to bed and I recommend you all do the same. I will see you all at sun up." I need to be up early enough to bang on his door loudly.

Cordwin let's out a confused Huh? not sure what being a woman who everyone knows your name has to do with anything.

He looks down into his empty mug. How many of these did I have? he wonders. When Aurora says its time to turn in, he starts thinking that would be a good idea! Well I hate to turn in while the night is young, but maybe tomorrow once we drop Tsuto off to he Sheriff, we can have an epic celebration! With that he bows to the group and leaves.

René blinks, uncertain what he had done this time to earn Aurora's ire. He was especially confused as to why she was talking as though his word play had been made behind her back instead of directly to her face. He wordlessly takes the drug practically thrown at him and sniffs it, half expecting it to be poison. He then shrugs and, seeing that it seemed to be time to retire for the night, heads back to his room.

As he walks back to his room, he begins mentally prepping for the morrow by composing a prayer to the gods. Once back in private, he writes it down and repeats it until it's memorized, a fairly easy task; when he first got in to fortune telling, he often did a similar thing to stave off his performance nerves. The scrap of paper is then placed in front of Hadley as his own handy-dandy paper shredder as he lays down for a night's somewhat uneasy rest.

The next morning the Sheriff loudly bangs on all of your doors rousing you from your sleep. He calls out to each of you to meet him in his office in an hour's time. He had let Ameiko know and she already has a hot breakfast waiting for you after you have dressed. She greets you with a Good Morning! but it seems to be delivered with less life than normal.

As you arrive at the Sheriff's office, there is man shaking and dressed in the garb of the militia and seems to be as pale as a ghost. The Sheriff prods the man to tell his tale.

We went to secure the glassworks just as you ordered, sir. the man begins shakily. Tsuto was gone and so were the goblins. When we got to the cave that these four said they escaped from, we found an entrance that looks like it had been bricked up for some time, but had recently been open. Well Me, Smitty and Ivers decided to take a look-see. We came upon a creature and it killed Smitty and Ivers! I was lucky to escape! There is evil there.

Sheriff Hemlock nods gravely. I know you are ready to find Tsuto, but would you mind checking this out? I have a feeling everything is related. Being down two militia will be hard to replace so I can't spare anyone else. What say you?

Tylur nods. "We will go now Sheriff. If there is another threat in town we will hunt it down." Tylur turns to the distraught man. Speaking slowly he asks the man a series of questions. "Could you give us any more information we must at least bring back the bodies of your friends to their families for a proper burial. Did the creature attack you three with what you think is magic? Did it have weapons? Did it speak to you? Did it take you unaware? Did the creature look like a goblin?"

When the Sheriff goes to knock on René's door, there's no answer. Instead, he is nervously pacing outside after a somewhat fitful night's rest. Doubting he could keep it down, breakfast had been forgone, though a number of snacks had been packed in case his appetite chose to return later at a less opportune time.

At the office, René relaxes marginally upon hearing that Tsuto had vanished. Of course he has! That's the only logical thing. His goblin pals had been killed and his prisoners escaped, so that only makes sense. Though he is puzzled by one thing. "Why would he go 'n take the gobbly boddies? Musta been at least 6 or 7 of 'em, I reckon. Seems like a mighty waste of effort."

Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

He then listens as Cordwin talks about the sinspawn. He had heard of such creatures before, of course, but they seemed like a bit of an odd addition to the group. But then, Tsuto was apparently consorting with demons and the undead, so hey, why not add some ancient monsters?

"I doubt that guard'd be as shaken if it were just an old, crotchety spellcaster. Don't know why they'd leave one behind though. Guess we better deal with it." And maybe, if we're very lucky, afterwards we'll have no idea where Tsuto is and can avoid that whole mess of impending death.

Soon after your meeting with the Sheriff, you head back to the glassworks. The place seems eerily quite now that the furnaces have died down. After a quick check to make sure there are no goblins – or Tsuto lurking about, you head to the cave.

You find the entrance and enter. After a short tunnel you come to another cave and there you see the dead bodies of the militia –and a creature that you assume to be a sinspawn.

But at the same time, he wasn't entirely convinced they were as strong as the guy who had one-shotted Tylur. And that fight was still ahead.
