We're using Strain/Injury?

it just occurred to me i still have 5 bonus languages to pick, but i'm unsure what other languages would be common in the area.

May I make some suggestions?

Goblin, Gnoll, Giant, Sylvan, Aklo, Draconic?

Male Human Mastermind 1 | HP: 7/7 | AC: 12 | T: 12 | FF: 10 | CMD: 11 | Fort/Ref/Will: +0/+4/+2 | Init: +4 | Perception: +7 | Sense Motive: +4

i appreciate the help. reasoning? i mean draconic is useful for obvious reasons, but why the others?

also, was i not able to hide, pied de la granouille? or are our current positions on the battle map based on when we went out and with whom?

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Sylvan and Aklo are for nature-y creatures.

Because skinwalkers are part beast and part man, it makes sense that they would commune with such creatures.

Goblin, Gnoll, Giant, and Draconic are all for creatures that we might encounter, out here in the wilds, on a regular basis. Goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears, gnolls, ogres, kobolds, etc.?

Male Human Mastermind 1 | HP: 7/7 | AC: 12 | T: 12 | FF: 10 | CMD: 11 | Fort/Ref/Will: +0/+4/+2 | Init: +4 | Perception: +7 | Sense Motive: +4

i figured that's where you were going with it. i picked up giant and i may grab goblin, but being Nightskulk, i'm a bit more concerned with urban stuff. i forgot i have a rank in linguistics, so i actually have 6 bonus.

Female Witchwolf Monk 1/Shaman 2 | I: 28/28, S: 24/28 | AC 18 [20], Touch 17 [19], FF 14 [15], CMD 20 [22], CMB +3 | Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +8 [+9] | Init +0 | Bluff +1 | Diplomacy +5 | Intimidate +7 | Sense Motive +8 | Spellcraft +6 | Survival +7 | Perception +11

Perhaps Varisian?

Elven or halfling might be of use in an Urban environment.

There could be goblins in the sewers, so I can see goblin being a choice that fits.

Male Human Mastermind 1 | HP: 7/7 | AC: 12 | T: 12 | FF: 10 | CMD: 11 | Fort/Ref/Will: +0/+4/+2 | Init: +4 | Perception: +7 | Sense Motive: +4

yeah, i think i may go with Varisian, Shoanti, and maybe Ancient Thassalonian. i'll probably take more linguistics eventually too.

I'll make sure you can put your gift of tongues to good use.

Be back tomorrow guys, taking a break today

One more day guys - sorry, battling a really bad stomach flu the past few days. Thanks for your patience :(

hey, it might have gotten lost above, but was Mori unable to start in a less obvious position. I rolled a couple stealth checks before though they may have also gotten lost on the previous page.

I hid you behind the house - sorry, missed the stealth roll. But I opened editing of the map for all users, so move yourself where Mori would have gone while following the guards.

...Still not totally well, but feeling way better at least :D If it says anything, I'm actually looking forward to (hopefully) being able to go to classes tomorrow.

Gonna be busy for a while in a few minutes, but I have every intention of getting a post up as soon as I can. Don't move on without me please :)

Male Coldborn Bard 3 [HP 30/30 | AC: 17 | T: 12 | FF: 15 | Fort: +3 / Reflex: +5 / Will: +3 | Init +2 | Perception +6]

Do we have line of effect/sight through the burning house?

Negative, Harshuk. Where there isn't wood, there's fire. You could fire through it, and your arrow might go through entirely, but it might also impact on the burning wood, it might catch on fire in midair, or it might just miss. You'd essentially be firing blind.

Male Coldborn Bard 3 [HP 30/30 | AC: 17 | T: 12 | FF: 15 | Fort: +3 / Reflex: +5 / Will: +3 | Init +2 | Perception +6]

Likewise impossible to lay down some Grease then. Poor guard.

At least that one's still at arms length. Don't forget that our closer friend is probably one grapple check away from being dinner at the moment. Assuming a mouthful of fire didn't just kill the troll's appetite (or it, but I'm placing no bets on that front).

I'm kind of... super confused by how strain and injury work. Here's an accumulation of all the damage I've taken so far:

4 from Troll Sweat.
6 from being Firebombed.
13 from being Troll Slashed.
2 more from Troll Sweat.
And if that Troll does his overrun and I hit him, another 3 from Disgusting Troll Sweat.

Does this all count as strain? And if so, when does it count as injury? The guide says "failed saving throws" counts as injury - but I didn't fail the two against the bombs, I succeeded for taking half damage, so does it still count as injury?

If you succeed your save, its only strain damage.

Also I just asked about the system in its own homebrew thread. Something i didn't understand before is, that there are no separate HP pools for strain and injury, but both damage your regular hit points, while strain is easily "healed" by a short rest and only injury stays until healed properly.

So i only have 2 HP left after all.

Female Witchwolf Monk 1/Shaman 2 | I: 28/28, S: 24/28 | AC 18 [20], Touch 17 [19], FF 14 [15], CMD 20 [22], CMB +3 | Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +8 [+9] | Init +0 | Bluff +1 | Diplomacy +5 | Intimidate +7 | Sense Motive +8 | Spellcraft +6 | Survival +7 | Perception +11

Sorry for the absence the last few days. Didn't have very much free time.

Kenna has the right of it. Strain does not introduce a new health pool for the player that enemies have to burn through - it ONLY affects how you heal.

So yeah. Kenna's pretty badly banged up.

Female Witchwolf Monk 1/Shaman 2 | I: 28/28, S: 24/28 | AC 18 [20], Touch 17 [19], FF 14 [15], CMD 20 [22], CMB +3 | Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +8 [+9] | Init +0 | Bluff +1 | Diplomacy +5 | Intimidate +7 | Sense Motive +8 | Spellcraft +6 | Survival +7 | Perception +11

Question, is Troll 3 Dead? Or is it Prone? Because you said it was prone in the thread but the map has it dead with Troll 4 prone.

Inactive

Man, I'm not too far behind Kenna then. My HP is at 9/34.

Thanks for clearing it up, guys. I thought it was two separate pools, too, so I was confused about what went in which pool. But the only reason to track it that way is because it heals differently. I think I have this figured out.

It's a new system, took me a long time to get my head around it at first because it's a new abstraction.

Lysira: the troll that Kenna and Saipres have been fighting, the one that Overrran them, is dead - Saipres landed the killing blow, hence the cinematic jump-on-the-back scene ;). The other troll next to it, the one that Moriarti hid from, is prone from Harshuk's spell.

Male Coldborn Bard 3 [HP 30/30 | AC: 17 | T: 12 | FF: 15 | Fort: +3 / Reflex: +5 / Will: +3 | Init +2 | Perception +6]

I noticed that Moment of Greatness is only good for one roll, rather than one round as I initially thought. After this combat, could I switch it out for something else?

Of course.

Mori having spent his time so far hidden would get a sneak attack, wouldn't he? (I haven't followed the actions of him and the handlers closely but I thought he remained undetected)

unfortunately, investigators don't have any such combat utility... at least not until level 4.

Frogfoot, i just realized i had apparently miscalculated some stuff, so i fixed it. i had too many skill points and too much HP. i think at some point i switched my favored class bonus (and/or changed my Con) and forgot to change everything else that depended on it. should be right now.

Male Scaleheart Skinwalker Brutal Pugilist Barbarian 3 [ HP: 32/32 (R:38/38) | AC: 18 (R:16) (G/R:15) | T: 12 (R:10) (G/R:9) | FF: 16 (G/R or R:14) | Fort +6 (R:+8) / Ref +4 (R:+4) / Will +3 (R:+5) | Init +2 / Percep: +7 ]

DM, do you allow the Grapple combat maneuver to be used as an AoO? I do not believe this is allowed, as Grapple is specifically called out as a standard action and an AoO is a bit more vague. That being said, I just want to make sure what your ruling is before I post my AoO post and subsequent turn.

Oh definitely, but the alarm was sounded, so reinforcements should be forthcoming. Also, I'd be less worried if it were just the trolls but... it's not.
