Response: Ask the applicants to either A) accept Krasnak the Creepy-ass Scaleheart oracle as a shoe-in for the party

I had to suppress the evil laugh that began to build in my gut when I first read this, because I was in polite company.

I'll post some more creepy-ass stuff about Krasnak later tonight, in case he is accepted, or becomes an NPC with some cameos.

Couldn't find the application till you said something, but... well, I could certainly see a lot of interesting dynamics coming from it. I certainly wouldn't mind, to say the least :)

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

Some Krasnak stuff leading to him becoming an Oracle that might be more interesting for players to learn via game, should Krasnak be among them.

Spoiler:

At first it was nothing. Krasnak had stopped dreaming, but he mostly dreamed of his work, so little changed. Then it really was nothing, as Krasnak's dreams became still blackness in his mind's eye, for as long as he slept. So he stopped sleeping. He dedicated himself to his work even further, and spent a week non-stop on the treacherous Scaleheart, Senten, who claimed to not even know Elven, much less be conspiring with any Elves. By the end of the week both Krasnak and his victim had collapsed, though Senten had learned to sing in Elven.

When Krasnak next opened his eyes, he saw blood everywhere. Large pillars of scarred flesh, climbing upwards like trees. No...as he came closer, he could see that these really were trees. Somehow, he was in a forest instead of his room or the torture room where he remembered passing out. His robes were filthy, caked with mud. I must have swum here during my black sleep Krasnak thought, as he tried to make sense of the gore he perceived. A giant bloody crocodile maw smiled widely for him, missing at least half of its teeth. In wonder, Krasnak approached it, until he saw it was a cave. As he was about to turn away and try to understand how to get home, a bonfire sprang to life in the middle of the cave, supported by neither oil nor wood.

Come to me. The flame spun itself into ribbons.

"What are you?" Krasnak reached for his flail, but it wasn't there. He was about to shift, but then he forgot his fear. He began to slowly approach the flame.

I have shared my vision with you. Now share yours with me. I have need of your eyes, Krasnak. The ribbons of flame unraveled into a fiery portal. Step through, and you will know magic. Join with me, and be cleansed of mortal weakness.

Krasnak stepped through the flames, but how they seared his flesh to ash-grey. He had passed through in a moment, and in doing so his soul was set afire, a slow-burning candle. As the wax drips, his magic grows stronger, and he grows ever more distant from the Scaleheart he was.

Now Krasnak sees things as they are when they are near, and as the being that manifested as flame sees them at distance.

And it is all so very, very, beautiful.

3 years later: Krasnak rejoins the Scaleheart band that is making the trek to the moot, much to their surprise. Though he has become pale, he is still unmistakeably Krasnak, and welcomed back as befitting an especially skilled interrogator.

Also a little about myself which I should've shared before: I can post multiple times a day, mostly in the evening (I'm on PST) but maybe in the mornings too. I'm alright with friendly rivalries among PCs, but I don't fancy PvP (stealing from each other, fighting each other, etc).

Frogfoot, you forgot Kysira Silvercoat. She's a witchwolf monk 1/shaman 2 for war.

Edit: I think you keep thinking she's Kenna Icemane. I'd just rather not be forgotten and not included in the running because of I was.

I'm sorry, I hadn't been listing your character, but I hadn't forgotten it. She's still in the running like everyone else. :)

Okay, this is the part of recruitment that I hate the most. Making cuts to the roster. Really, what I should do in the future is just cut off recruitment early and make it first come first serve...lots easier for me that way...

Anyway, this was an extremely (extremely) (extremely) difficult decision, but I eventually settled on this for the roster. I feel it's a fascinating mix of personalities and motivations and if you guys don't tear each other apart, you may just accomplish something great.

Harthresh (scaleheart barbarian)

Kenna Icemane (witchwolf fighter)

Saipres (fanglord bloodrager)

Harsuk (coldborn bard)

Darath (bloodmarked alchemist)

Arren Icewalker (coldborn druid)

Kysira Silvercoat (witchwolf shaman)

(bonus random pick because I was so conflicted about who to bring)
Semele (nightskulk scout)
Mori (nightskulk investigator)
Shiro (coldborn warlock)
Arvangail (fanglord inquisitor)
Aresh the Glib (fanglord sorcerer)
Kallak (ragebred bloodrager)
Let the RNG gods decide...: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Mori (nightskulk investigator)

To those that did not get accepted...God it was hard, but I hope that you do follow/enjoy reading the campaign as it develops, as (with your permission) I will be using the (excellent) characters you've written up as important NPCs in the campaign. Also, I'm expecting players to drop out - this is how online campaigns go - and I will be contacting players from this recruitment thread to replace players who drop off.

For those I've selected...I'm making the gameplay and discussion threads today. First thing we'll be doing is a sort of one-on-one brief roleplay where we set the scene for what you recommend your tribal leaders to say at the moot.

I would also like Harsuk and Arren and Kysira and Kenna to use the discussion thread to establish prior interactions your characters would have had. As you all have important positions in terms of leadership of the tribe, you can't really not know each other, at least by reputation.

While it is unfortunate to see I did not make the roster, I'm glad to see some others will get to enjoy your game and I'll keep an eye out like a vulture for any players that fall to the ways of the boards.

Otherwise, I'll likely continue playing around with Kallak's background considering I enjoy the character. Still, feel free to use the character for the campaign. It seems like he should be a good candidate to stand against what seems to be a largely peace driven group.

Indeed, I have plans for your character as an NPC. I'm glad I have permission to use him.

Good luck to those selected

Yeah, I think he'll make a good antagonist. Especially once he takes his place as Under-Chief of his tribe.

Alright then.

See you. I couldn't stick around, reading things i didn't get into just makes me jealous.

Enjoy all!

Would you mind if I dot the threads, so I can keep up with them?

Everyone is welcome to dot the threads.
