DM Fflash |
Hello, all. Recently had a surprise drop out from my campaign and given it was a critical character, I'd like to replace him.
As the thread above mentions, this is Shattered Star, played fairly reliably from the AP, with small changes made by myself to augment flow of play on a Play By Post forum. I'd prefer if you haven't read the AP. I'd ask that you tell me up front if you have.
Character that left was an elven cleric of Desna who had intent of becoming a specialist wizard of some sort and then switching to mystic theurge. Additionally, he was the sole source of Diplomacy in the party.
- Other party members
- Bralex, tiefling alchemist
- Relan, human fighter
- Fulmen, half-elf druid (weather domain) who intends to multi-class monk
- Clarence, a human ranger (trapper)
- Andel, NPC human expert to become bard, also party scribe
I'm looking for experienced, committed posters. I'll evaluate character applications first on whether they meet the party's requirements of a healer and diplomacy user. Second, on the poster's ability to write well and communicate effectively. Third, based on your posts and your character writeup, whether I think you'd be a good fit with my current players.
I recommend you read through some of the gameplay and discussion tabs to determine how you should draft your background.
- My basic rules:
- No gunslingers, no guns.
- Raise Dead doesn't exist in this campaign. All other reincarnation and resurrection spells do.
- I'm currently not using any 3PP material and I'd ask that you don't either. I'm always open to exceptions but expect my initial answer to be no, with justification required on your part, not mine.
- Characters start at 2nd level, (1st lev Max HP, 2nd lev rolled on the discussion tab once accepted), 750 gp worth of money/equipment, 15-point buy, 2 traits (1 is campaign) and can use Core Pathfinder races, Core Rulebook, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Equipment and the Advanced Player's Guide. Other Paizo produced material can be considered if you ask, I have access to it, and I approve it. I'm not as draconian about this as I am about the 3PP stuff above.
- Character will enter the party just after they level up to 2nd
Thanks for your consideration in advance, I intend to choose a replacement by Friday, 22 March.
Tarric Abol |
I am submitting Tarric.
He is a bumbling, happy go lucky, Friar Tuck type of cleric. He hasn't spent very much time outside of the library so he is very happy to have left and has been tasked with establishing a new library.
This leaves open if he was sent out as a reward, or to get rid of him.
The module that he was playing in has fallen silent for nearly two months, and I really like him, so I would be interested in playing him again.
Dread |
*Tossing proverbial hat in the ring*
When I saw the thread, thought...oh itd be fun to play a Bard.
so I could either make Andel into a character...or I could go Socerer (since you have a Bard in the party ;) .
If you feel the party needs a Cleric or healer type...
Maybe a Cleric of Caiden. play him as a bit of a drunk ;) but heart of gold type.
Ice Titan |
I'll consider writing up an oracle of some kind, maybe a life oracle? I've always wanted to try something like that.
As far as curses go, how do you feel about the Mute curse (from Pathfinder Adventure Path #49, Brinewall Legacy) and houseruling its advancements? I'll repost it here:
Mute (Ex)
[The oracle's] curse renders her mute—she can’t
speak, use verbal spell components, or use her captivating
song as a result. This same curse, though, grants her the
ability to cast all spells as if using the Silent Spell metamagic
feat without modifying that spell’s actual level. In addition,
[The oracle] can communicate telepathically with any creature she
is in physical contact with. She can also maintain a telepathic
bond with one specific creature at a time by taking a full-round
action to link her mind to that creature during telepathic
communication. [The oracle] can change the target of her telepathic link once per day.
I'm certain that character could diplomacize people using the touch-telepathy; the question is, do you think that I could diplomacize them into letting me touch them without it?
I think I'd flavor it like gestures and sign language-- I make them and people don't really understand, except for one person I'd just choose at the outset. The 'telepathy' I give him would just be them perfectly understanding what I'm trying to say all the time. For touch-telepathy, I'd just write in people's hands and on their backs and they'd just 'get' me.
Anyways, that's what I jumped to first as far as character ideas. I'll dot this and come back to think more later!
FuriousPhil |
Well, I'd love to play a female Chelaxian expatriate paladin character of mine in this campaign, but I've got two strikes against me:
1) I've read most of it,
2) I'm running Jade Regent in a play by post game already - which means I can post a lot, but will probably have my hands full.
Tarric, I played Anton (the fighter) in that module you're referring to! I had to bail when the posting dropped off, but left on good terms. You had a good character and you played him well, I hope you get selected for this PbP. Best of luck to everyone.
Tarric Abol |
Ok, Changed Tarric's stats around for the 15 pt buy.
Tarric has scribed a scroll with 3 cure moderate wounds and carries 3 cure light potions. That takes care of the money.
Traits are "Monument Scholar", which fits just fine with his background and "Ease of Faith", which reflects his easy-going nature. As a librarian he has read plenty about the Monuments and has always been very interested in seeing all of them, now that he has the chance, he is taking it. So this explains why he is hanging around in Magnimar at the start of the adventure. Any sort of artifact or exploration of monuments/ruins will also prove an irresistible lure.
Reduced his skills to reflect the stat shift, dumped Appraise and shifted points to a couple knowledge skills.
DM Jelani |
I read through the whole gameplay thread. I could definitely get down with this. My character will be a human female cleric (cloistered cleric, merciful healer) of Irori. Vudran healer father and Varisian mother. Her parents lived in Absolom and she trained with her father. When she was old enough she joined the church of Irori and the Pathfinders, journeying to Magnimar, her mother's homeplace. She's reported to Heidmarch as a new recruit and is awaiting further instructions.
I'm certainly a reliable player, I can post multiple times a day almost every day. As of now I've 7,349 posts on these boards.
I'll get working on an alias. Story wise, how are you going to introduce the new character? I see they're currently in a big battle.
DM Jelani |
Okay, I've got her finished I think.
Here's the alias.
She's got social skills covered, decent at knowledge, and she can heal A LOT. She also won't accidentally heal the enemy while channeling like the other cleric did, since she's got selective channel.
With the luck the group has displayed so far in gameplay, I figure all the extra healing can't hurt.
DM Fflash |
Jelani, I intend to introduce the new character once the party finds and deals with Natalya and returns to Sheila, which isn't too far away. I'll divest Lorlenn from the campaign and allow Sheila to make the introductions to the new character since the party will be in need. Fairly simple. Additionally, it would make it way easier if we could find a way for the party to already know the previous individual (if you read thru the thread, then the group of folks that get together for the weekly dinners would be a prime entry for that).
And you are correct, the party could use an infusion of dice rolling luck. Never seen anything so bad
DM Fflash |
Haven't seen any new adds recently so the list I have to choose from so far:
- Tarric Abol, Human Cleric (Librarian), min requirements met
- Zora Julija Narcisa, Human Oracle (Life), min requirements met
- Bella Singh, Human Cleric (Cloistered Cleric/Merciful Healer), min requirements met
- <Digger Chandler>, <race unknown> Oracle (Ancester), awaiting profile
- <Dread>, <race undecided>, <class undecided: take over Andel, create sorc, create cleric of Caiden Caylen>
If there are others, please let me know. For those that have expressed interest, if you haven't met min requirements above by Friday 1600 eastern, I won't be able to consider you in the decision.
Myra of Magnimar |
Her is my character Profile.
I've read the posts so far and could see her fitting in well, mechanically and personality wise. Healing, social skills, spells, and secondary combat keep her useful in any situation. I can post 1-2 times per day, enjoy good RP and Combat, and have yet to play this AP. I like to bring some humor and banter to the group, and am not afraid to create a poor rhyme or song to liven the mood.
I found it an interesting challenge to work metal as a mystery into her background, not sure how well that worked out but I think the concept works. Still not sure how far I will take her use of a harrow deck. I've spent too long looking at the screen and typing so if something ended up not making sense, or you see any mistakes, just yell.
DM Fflash |
Alright, so after much gnashing of teeth and rereading characters and posts etc, the party has voted and I threw in my 2 cents an changed my mind 5 times.
We've finally settled on Bella Singh (DM Jelani) for the party's 5th slot.
Thanks to the rest of you, it was a very difficult choice. I'll look for you all in other games. Best of luck.
Jelani, hop over to discussion and we'll iron out the rest of your character and prep for introduction to the party when they're ready,
DM Fflash |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Another year and another player I need to replace. I'm a big fan of Relan and his player who was new to Pathfinder and adapting surprisingly well, but due to personal commitments, his ability to post regularly has dropped significantly, and I've asked him to step down for now to get a regular melee character in the party.
My basic character creation rules:
- No gunslingers, no guns.
- Raise Dead doesn't exist in this campaign. All other reincarnation and resurrection spells do.
- I'm currently not using any 3PP material and I'd ask that you don't either. I'm always open to exceptions but expect my initial answer to be no, with justification required on your part, not mine.
- The new character will start at 3nd level
- 1st lev Max HP, 2nd & 3rd lev rolled on the discussion tab once accepted per campaign tab rules
- 750 gp worth of money/equipment (plus these items: mw chain shirt, mw silver dagger, 2 potions CLW, +1 cold iron ranseur (use or give back to the party to sell)
- 15-point buy, 2 traits (1 is campaign)
- Can use Core Pathfinder races, Core Rulebook, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Equipment and the Advanced Player's Guide.
- Other Paizo produced material can be considered if you ask, I have access to it, and I approve it. I'm not as draconian about this as I am about the 3PP stuff above.
- Character will enter the party by DM fiat, essentially taking the slot that Relan left and we will retcon that the member has been with the party the entire time. While this may not be the cleanest nor best way in, it's certainly the easiest and what I'd prefer right now.
Player expectation/how I recruit:
- Goal is to be able to post 1/day, but some times the game moves slower than that. That's OK.
- Communicate effectively, role play when required, advance the plot when required
- Argue your point or your rule whenever you disagree, but once I make a decision, let it go
- Your character crunch is only important to me that it meets the ruleset above, it's complete/accurate, and it's something the party needs
- More important is how you post. I will look at your other posts on various aliases to see how you interact with other posters and how you play the game.
- If you have a low post count, I recommend a PM to me giving me your experience/desire. I've been playing some form of this game for 30 years, I prefer experienced players, although it's not a hard/fast requirement (note Relan above)
The party is currently departing the dungeon to rest and sell, I'd like to have the character swapped in before they return to the dungeon which I estimate will take at least a week. I will make a decision by the end of this weekend (4 May), assuming we have at least one viable candidate.
Charles Beecroft |
I would like to present Charles Beecroft, a LN Half-Elf Fighter (Two-Handed) 3 for consideration.
I think that he is decently tricked-out as a melee fighter, as well as having several non-combat skills that might be of use :-)
The only non-standard thing that I have used is that I have taken a 'racial trait' from the splat-book 'Bastards of Golarion', which swaps out the bonus feat for some spell-like abilities.
(A link to the full text is here, under 'Mordant Envoy'.)
DM Fflash |
Yet another year and another character replacement required. We've decided that Fulmen's character will retire and we'd like to replace him.
- The new character will start at 5th level
- 1st lev Max HP, other level hps rolled on the discussion tab once accepted per campaign tab rules
- 5,000gp in gear
- 15-point buy, 2 traits (1 is campaign)
- Can use Core Pathfinder races, Core Rulebook, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Equipment, Advanced Player's Guide, and the Advanced Class Guide (although ACG archetypes may be restricted, ask first).
- Other Paizo produced material can be considered if you ask, I have access to it, and I approve it. I'm not as draconian about this as I am about the 3PP stuff above.
- Character will enter the party as a Pathfinder in the Mushfens on a separate mission.
Player expectation/how I recruit:
- Goal is to be able to post every other day, but some times the game moves slower than that. Please expect that. I know how to make a game last, but sometimes there will be lulls.
- Communicate effectively, role play when required, advance the plot when required
- Argue your point or your rule whenever you disagree, but once I make a decision, let it go
- Your character crunch is only important to me that it meets the ruleset above,it's complete/accurate, and it's something the party needs
-
More important is how you post. I will look at your other posts on various aliases to see how you interact with other posters and how you play the game. -
If you have a low post count, I recommend a PM to me giving me your experience/desire. I've been playing some form of this game for 30 years, I prefer experienced players, although it's not a hard/fast requirement. It just helps eliminate unnecessary rerecruiting
Additionally, I push maps and images via Roll20.
Party currently consists of a tiefling alchemist, a human fighter (lorewarden) (reach fighter), a halfling oracle (dual cursed), and an aasimar summoner (master summoner), as well as an NPC human expert/bard accompanying as a scribe. Pick your class based on how you would best fit with the party. Current party members will get to be involved in the selection process.
I'll leave this recruiting open for at least a week.

Ok, I took a quick glance at the characters and glanced through a few pages of gameplay. I didn’t want to read too much to not spoil things.
I don’t know much of anything about Shattered Star except the product blurb. So please let me know if I am suggesting something that doesn’t work well for the AP.
This doesn’t look like a good fit for some of my more insane/unstable characters.
It doesn’t look to me like you have the scouting role filled. Unless Aidon’s eidolon is built for that (couldn’t find any info) or Bralex is using magic to be sneaky (does have the high disable device skill).
I don’t usually like playing a character without any magic or bizarre abilities. So I’m thinking of proposing something along the lines of an inquisitor of Gozreh hunting those who upset the balance of nature. Built for stealth and tracking.
If that doesn’t seem useful to you folks, please let me know. Quite sure I can come up with some other ideas.

DM Fflash;
I have been in quite a lot of PFS PbP. I like the PbP format since it gives me the time to really get some mileage out of the RP aspect of the RPG. In real life, I'm a bit too much of an introvert to try speaking with an accent or get drawn into a real in-character philosophical argument. I can and have done that in PbP.
I have been trying, but so far I have not been able to get into a long running PbP that hasn't 'died on the vine.'
I will check the PbP and post at least twice a day (before and after work). Sometimes, like now, even while at work.
An examples of my posting is:
Selter Sago
Arik Nihlas |
It does seem like your group is fairly solid. There aren't a lot of obvious gaps that look like they can be filled easily. For my submission, I'd like to put forth my Aasimar Void-Touched Sorcerer. Focused on battlefield control, and buff/debuff, as well as being a nice boost of arcane power to the group if chosen.
ginganinja |
Agreeing with the other interested parties that the group is excellently balanced, and that its quite tricky to come up with something that doesn't risk conflicting with what someone else does well.
I might look into a Wiz/Rogue heading into Arcane Trickster to act as a skill monkey/scout/sneaky/arcane support that hopefully wouldn't step on anyone else's toes. I'll drop off a Crunch if there is interest.
Just a note, DM Fflash are you looking for a backstory? Most recruitments require one, but I don't see it mentioned. I can write one up without much difficulty, am just curious if you want to wade through some or not.
JDPhipps |
Color me interested. I was originally considering playing a Hexcrafter magus, but since one of your players mentioned you need ranged support, I might whip up something for that instead.
I've actually been itching to play a Kineticist, but it's currently in playtest, so I don't know if you'd allow that. They can operate pretty well as ranged combat support, and depending on the element can be pretty good at a variety of things.
Blink the Bandit |
Looks like I wasn't the only one who thought an arcane trickster might be a decent way to go for this party...
Oh well, I'll still put my own spin on it all forward!
Basically I am looking to take a more blasty route in combat for my arcane trickster, only coming into melee when I can get into the positioning for a guaranteed sneak attack (made a bit easier with the teleportation subschool focus). Vanishing into a sneak attack scorching ray is just the greatest cherry on top.
Oh, and of course like any good roguish build with a decent Int score, she's also a skill monkey and an exceptional scout.
She is based around the Unchained Rogue rather than the standard rogue, but if you're not comfy with the Unchained sourcebook, it's not big deal for me to flop her over to the standard rogue.
I'm going to look at taking out the TWF concept (no matter how cool I think it is), but its far too late to continue working out the finer details at this exact moment. I've also got to source check her still to filter what's from the books you've listed and what are from Paizo books outside that list (especially the spells).

General character concept and your ability as an enduring player are what I'm looking for.
I don't have the crunch sketched out but I was thinking something like a hunter with a bird companion. Good mix of skills, shooting, etc. Shouldn't really tread on anyone's toes.
I can chip away at the crunch but I saw an interest in play history. Been running a game for years, playing in others just as long only to watch some fade. I have had some slow spots due to family/health over the years but take a look and see if I might fit. I'll try to expand on the concept as the week progresses.

Hello there! I've created Barkarna for your game. She's a forlorn elf archaeologist, who's been delving into the past to discover her ancestry (as well as to turn the occasional profit and scholarly research paper). Fflash, I'll send you an PM shortly with my gaming history. If you want to check out the other PbPs I'm involved in (both currently on short hiatus due to family deaths, sadly), here are
The Curse of the Crimson Throne, as Giorgio Karakios, and
The Legend of Zelda: The Pathfinders as Celarouba
