Control Chain Round 5
Init: Kovax, Meyanda, Orcs, Urgeon, Kulgara, Oskar, Draigs, Ridic, Razorend
Kovax moves around the archon and lashes out at the Lord of Rust leader spearing her in the back of the shoulder.
The orcs bleed in the pit.
Urgeon brings an elemental into the play between the two Lords and the archon blasts Kulgara twice, once ray bouncing off her armor, but the second sending to her knees.
The orc woman, with obvious mortal wounds, continues to move with the legendary fortitude of an orc beserker. She drops her chainsaw and pulls out another small spherical device the size of her fist. She flips a switch on the side of it and a red light blinks. She grins wickedly and closes her eyes, pulling the sphere to hold it against her chest.
Oskar wades into melee with Draigs, cutting at her legs scoring two hits. The ettin responds in kind slashing left and right, but the dwarf dodges between the beast's legs leaping to the side and avoiding harm.
Draigs Saving Throw: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15; Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1) = 8
To hit: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 11 - 2 = 19; miss
To hit: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 - 2 = 5; miss
Ridic heals himself. (Can't use the wand twice, haste just gives you a single extra attack on a full attack action). His sphere smacks the giant hard again burning her as she flails ineffectually at Oskar.
At Razorend and Kovax

Razorend |

"I don't think so," Razorend comments grimly, stabbing his adamantine kukri hard at the suicide grenade.
Sunder!: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 1 = 24; Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Haste: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 1 = 27; Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
This had better work...

Oskar Griesgram |

Oskar tries to think, hasn't he heard of that sphere thing before?
Knowledge(ENG): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Nope, guess not...=)
He presses the attack against the Giant-kin, asking 'Does it hurt to be that ugly?'
ToHit(WarAxe): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 1 = 22
Dam(WarAxe): 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Current HPs: 38/60

DM Fflash |

Razorend stabs forward his blade rushing toward the grendae. Kulgara's eyes flash open and at the last moment she catches the stalkers' wrist with her own struggling to hold him back. With a quick twist enhanced by speed Razorend surges forward again slipping through her grasp and his weapon pierces the grenade cleanly and then drives forward into the orc's chest. She gasps blood and stares at the blade sticking from her chest.
When she sees the light still blinking she laughs, a horrible blood-flecked gurgling sound.
Kovax?

DM Fflash |

Ridic keeps attacking the Giant with the sphere
Is Ridic able to make physical attacks while holding a spell, or does that consume his ability to make other attacks?
Ridic can do anything he wants every round. The sphere will just sit where it is continuing to hit something. To move the sphere, it costs a move action. Can still attack, cast spells etc.

DM Fflash |

Kovax's CMB should only be +10, I think, but regardless ...
Kovax lashes out at the chain striking Kulgara's hand. She drops the device and it splits in two when it hits the ground, the light fading from the top as it simultaneously fades out of the orc woman's eyes too. She falls forward unceremoniously.
As the party breathes a sigh of relief, Oskar casually disembowels the ettin and then kicks her over to sit on her ass. The two-headed woman moans softly for a moment and then collapses. Moments later the two orcs in the pit succumb to blood loss.
END COMBAT! Experience and loot to come shortly. What are your other plans?

Urgeon Porpentine |

Urgeon searches each body and then the room. He detects magic on all the gear and attempts to identify anything that radiates magic. He will study Kulgara's chainsaw and will attempt to determine how to work it.

Total XP: 3200 + 1200 + 600 + 210 + 2400 = 7610
You each receive 1,525XP

- 6 falchions
- masterwork spiked chain
- 6 studded leather armor
- large leather armor
- a grenade (Know Engineering reqd)
- +1 breastplate
- composite longbow (+7 str)
- green access card
- 10 silverdisks
- 49gp
Price 2,700 gp; Type two-handed melee; Proficiency exotic; Dmg (M) 3d6 slash.; Dmg (S) 1d12 slash.; Critical 18-20/×2; Capacity 10; Usage 1 charge/hour; Special deadly, distracting; Weight 10 lbs.
Originally developed for use as tools, chainsaws work remarkably well as weapons and are often used by lunatics or those who want to intimidate their enemies. A chainsaw consists of a weighty housing for the engine and power source that is fitted with two handles, and a 2- to 3-foot-long blade extending from the front, around which a whirling, buzzing chain of razor-sharp cutting links spins at blinding speed when the weapon is activated. It's a standard action to activate a chainsaw, and doing so consumes a charge of power. The chainsaw continues to run constantly after activation, draining an additional charge each hour. A dropped chainsaw automatically turns off unless it is set down carefully as a move action. The buzzing of a chainsaw's blade is loud and distracting (but not deafening), causing anyone carrying an activated chainsaw to take a -10 penalty on Stealth checks. An activated chainsaw grants a proficient user a +2 morale bonus on Intimidate checks.

Oskar Griesgram |

Oskar will search the dais that Helion appeared on.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Knowledge(ENG): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
If he doesn't find anything unusual there, he goes and listens at the doors to the room. I count 6

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

Urgeon Porpentine |

Urgeon will study the dials with Oscar. "How is that demon Hellion manipulating these dispays?"
Knowledge, Engineering: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
He holds up the chainsaw, "This thing can do some damage. Who wants it?"
He slides the rest of the loot in the bag.

Oskar Griesgram |

I do have the technologist feat.
"Lad, that machine would be a fine tool, and I'll carry it if no one else wants it. But I'm more interested in that Breastplate, mine is a little worn and with a little washing (ok, a lot of washing, and maybe the use of some holy water) it would serve me very well."

Razorend |

Razorend lets out a little sigh of relief as the half-orc -- and her grenade -- are neutralized.
He eyes the frosty kukri with clear interest, and takes the weapon to test its balance and weight. (assuming no one objects...)
"Meyanda, do you know how Hellion is projecting through these screens?"

Oskar Griesgram |

Also I can't remember if there were any guns fired on the foe side, but i'd like to search the bodies for some un-fired ammo (bullets and powder)
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

DM Fflash |

No guns fired ... all loot is listed above. I generally just assume you search bodies and give you the full list at the end of combat, assuming you aren't running out the next round. Also, didn't see technologist feat on your character sheet, which is why I mentioned it.
Oskar and Urgeon determine that the device projects an image, very similar to illusion magic where it appears and acts, but isn't truly there. You cannot figure out why it was able to manifest magic.
Only loot claims are the breastplate and kukri. Please update the spreadsheet. Add the rest of the items via haversack etc.
Meyanda nods to Razorend, "I do recall some things now that we are here, but I'd suggest we talk somewhere that Hellion cannot hear or see us," she nods meaningfully at the monitors.
Oskar looks around the area listening at doors and opening the ones that don't appear to be a threat.
Spare Rooms
Several of the rooms opened, (unlabeled), appear to once be barracks for the various gang members. Your activities over the past few days have decimated their numbers and so they are apparently empty now.
Kulgara's Room
The eastern half of this room appears to be some sort of workshop, with all manner of metalworking tools hanging from the walls over junk-strewn tables. To the west, a sagging cot sits against a partially crumpled metal wall next to a two-foot-tall metal cabinet. Dozens of empty tubes from which strange fluids drip lie in a heap atop the chest. What looks like a partially completed and crudely constructed mechanical orc marionette or machine slumps against a metal cage-like frame at the foot of the cot.
Great Cavern
As large as this cavern is, the cave’s proportions are dwarfed by the immense buried structure that looms over its western half underneath where you stand. This metal leviathan presents a filthy facade of sharp angles, doors stained and pitted with rust allowing entry into its interior. You stand on a wide balcony overlooking the rocky floor fifteen feet below. A massive mound of furs, rags, and refuse—a nest of some sort— sprawls in a sizable alcove to the southeast, while to the north, a 10-foot-wide tunnel curves to the northwest. Three areas of straight metal ridges protrude from the ground, marking paths from the building. Evidence of recent excavation work is apparent. An immense latticework of thick gray metal beams extends from the front of the buried structure, creating a wall of girders and struts that bisects the cave’s northern reach. These beams have been painted with images of demonic faces and spiked mechanical claws, and are further adorned with strips of sinew on which countless humanoid bones have been hung like wind chimes.
Western Doors
The doors to the west are locked with a gray symbol. Oskar hears nothing beyond them of interest.

Urgeon Porpentine |

Loot spreadsheet updated.
Kulgara's Room
Urgeon searches the room and then studies the marionette and attempts to identify its purpose.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Knowledge, Engineering: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
Great Cavern
Urgeon studies the area looking for any signs of life. "It appears to be a buried ship - like what we found at torch. These fools have made a temple of it."
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Western Doors
Urgeon pulls out one of the gray access cards and swipes the door open.

Oskar Griesgram |

I'm going to examine the great cavern with a dwarven eye. Hopefully I can determine the age of the stone work
Perception(stonework): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

DM Fflash |

Kulgara's Room
Urgeon doesn't have a gray access card, but he does have a green one, just found on Kulgara's body ... it's better
A quick assessment of the mechanical orc and you realize someone was attempting to build a construct. It is obvious that they didn't come even close to something functional.
The cabinet is made of reinforced glaucite and locked green. WIth a quick swipe, Urgeon opens it finding the following inside: 244 silverdisks, a pouch with 17 cracked and flawed gems (50gp ea), a timeworn hard light shield (11 charges), a power cable, and a loosely organized stack of papers held in a metal binder. It's written in Orc and after a quick glance, you realize it's part to do list and part journal ... with many mentions about Hellion and his purpose in Scrapwall.
Great Cavern
Other than the excavation, which is fairly recent, there is no actual stonework in the cavern. It's a metal structure. Other than the things noted above, there are no other signs of occupants.
Proceeding west then?

Oskar Griesgram |

Oskar doesn't know the Orcish language, much to his old commanders dismay. But we should hold onto that binder, and go over it later.

Urgeon Porpentine |

FWIW, there are gray access cards listed in the loot sheet.
Urgeon will take some time to read the orcish notes within the binder. "We're going to need all the information we can get if we're going to defeat Hellion."
He then follows the others through the west door.

Oskar Griesgram |

Well lads, I would rather take on the big, creepy voice guy, after regaining my full strength too.
but, while, "He that shall not be named" might not be able to replace the meat bags that follow him, He HAS been throwing around ALOT of power. We might not want to give him a chance to rest
Meyanda? in your experience, would waiting be a bad idea?
Current Hit Points: 38/60

Meyanda *NPC* |

Meyanda looks blankly at Oskar and then responds, "He is divine, so I never considered that he should need to rest. That seems somehow ... wrong isn't the word I want to use, but it's the one that comes to mind. He sees the world as being inherited by machines and constructs. Rest seems like it would be anti-dogma?"
She shrugs, "But my memory and will were perverted by his influence, so I am not certain of anything any more."
2 votes west, 2 votes to retreat and rest, 1 on the fence ...

Urgeon Porpentine |

Urgeon looks at his own extensive wounds. "Yes, we need healing. Let's fall back."

Oskar Griesgram |

Aye, aye, lets fall back, strategic-ly. Urgeon, would you like one of my healing potions? I have 2, you can have them both if you'd like. I didn't realize you were down to single digits...:0

DM Fflash |

You right, Urgeon ... i got confused somewhere along the way. The normal doors are gray and you've had a gray card since Nalakai upstairs. The only green door is to the west of the southern empty room.
The party retreats back out to the landing and up the stairs, only to find the door at the top locked red, now. Hellion's low chuckle sounds throughout the complex, echoing off the walls.

Urgeon Porpentine |

Urgeon smiles at Oskar, "Thank you for offering, but the potions should be saved for an emergency. I'm sure Ridic can provide healing once we've had a chance to rest."

Razorend |

Razorend remembers something, but cannot place it. "I think we're stuck in here. We may need to carve out a shelter if we really need to rest. Otherwise, we have to see this thing done."
He gestures to the monitors, "Should we destroy these, to keep Hellion from spying on us?"

Meyanda *NPC* |

Meyanda nods her approval and once Razorend and the others have destroyed all the monitors in the main room and the projector, she nods with approval and then starts as if she just remembered something.
"I ... I ... am recalling things about this place. Let me ... look around and put the jumbles together."
She starts moving methodically around the room, "He may send minions after us or sit back and wait, so if we are to rest here, I would set up guard."
Setting up camp here? If so, indicate where you are and if you wish to set up anything/do anything and how you wish to handle watches. Additionally, I'll assume that Urgeon peruses the 2 journals written in orc and if you get through a couple hours of rest without incident, I'll give you the summary information

Oskar Griesgram |

Well, Oskar doesn't need to recover spells, so he can take the first watch. Before the casters start resting, does anyone have a healing spell to spare?

Ridic Slaranack |

I have scrolls and a wand, but no more spells
Anyone that normally plays a spellcaster: Can I memorize the same spell multiple times, using multiple slots. In other words, can I use all my level 3 spells to be CMW?

Kovax Exner |

I have scrolls and a wand, but no more spells
Anyone that normally plays a spellcaster: Can I memorize the same spell multiple times, using multiple slots. In other words, can I use all my level 3 spells to be CMW?
Yes, you can have all your spells be the same spell, takes away from your variety, which is why clerics on the master healers as they can memorize any spells and instantly convert them to a healing spell of the same level
How many charges do we have left on the wand?
Kovax will also take a watch as he has no spells but he also needs healing, but he is at 53/76 so it's not dire

Urgeon Porpentine |

Urgeon will take the first watch. He will use the time to review the orcish journals.

Razorend |

Well, I did say I would take whatever shift, though its funny that 2 others follow up saying they're first.
Razorend uses his time on guard practicing fighting forms and refocusing his ki. In a quiet moment of recovery, he offers a quiet prayer to Nethys. If there's a chance, he will try to speak with Meyanda.
"Do you think it safe enough to talk, now that we have destroyed Hellion's eyes and ears?"

Urgeon Porpentine |

Ridic, I would burn all the charges on the wand and use the four scrolls. We need all the healing we can get.
