After checking your gear and gathering your things together, you look around, and again note the dead half-orc at the east end of this tunnel.

Knowledge Local DC10:
You recognize the half-orc as Parda Garr, a local brawler in town and one of the members of the second expedition. Many called her friend, and several expressed that her falling in with these thugs would spell her end ... turns out they were right.

Heal DC12:
The half-orc was slain by multiple stab wounds from either a short sword or dagger

knowledge, local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Urgeon cautiously examines the half-orc body, "I know her. She's a local brawler. She fell in with a bad crowd and was part of the second expedition I believe. We should be on the look out for her thug companions."

Male Human Mechanist/Savage Technologist Level 7

Kovax moves up to examine the body after getting his armor and gun ready

Knowledge Local - 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

"Ah, yes Parda Garr, I remember she was well liked by many in town. We should see if it possible to bring her home when we leave, many would like to know what has become of her"

Heal Check - 1d20 ⇒ 18

"Hmm, looks like she was stabbed to death, by a short sword or dagger, she was not killed by the insects we just fought. Interesting."

Male Android Stalker 7 :: AC 22 (t17, f15) :: 53 hp

"Just one of many corpses we will find, I suspect. Let's keep moving."

Assuming you're leaving the half-orc alone for now

Also noting that the half-orc is completely stripped of any gear, the party proceeds forward.

Dark River Cave

A dark cavern opens up here, its twenty-foot-high ceiling thick with stalactites. A rocky shore overlooks a placid pool and stream, fed by a trickle of water leaking from a narrow fissure to the north. A small garden of toadstools and dark mold grows along the banks.

A flash of light catches your attention. Hopping off a toadstool as you approach is a grotesque frog-like creature with milky white eyes radiating light like a lantern and a tremendously long tongue (image added to your journal) with a brand in a foreign language on its side. It comes rushing forward.

Undercommon:

The brand says "pet"

Knowledge Arcana DC17:

The creature is a blindheim, an underground creature that hunts small rodents and insects near underground waterways. An excellent swimmer and climber, it's known to set ambushes for unwary Darklands travelers. It's gaze can blind.

Map updated. Roll Initiative and give first round actions if you go before 9

Blinded by the Light Round 1

Kovax, Urgeon, Blindheim, Razorend, Ridic

Kovax runs forward, eyes closed, and swings missing widely. Urgeon fires his crossbow and than catches a full dose of blinding light causing white lights to sparkle all throughout his vision and causing his crossbow bolt to fly wide. Blinded for 1 hour

The frog creature hops forward inside Kovax's guard and rips into him with claws and teeth. The mechanist's armor protects him from the bite, but one of the claws gets through.

Blindheim vs Kovax bite to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13; miss

Razorend and Ridic's actions ... note Razorend will fail his save on his turn and be blinded for an hour unless he does something to avoid the gaze.

Kofax will open his eye, try to avoid looking at the creature, and to make sure that he won't hit anyone with his Blunderbuss, seeing Ridic he decides to swing at the creature with his cestus as to not hit anyone else with his gun.

Blinded by the Light Round 2

Kovax, Urgeon, Blindheim, Razorend, Ridic

As the wizard turtles up, Sandy Kofax takes a glimpse and catches a corner of blinding light but glances to the side just in time. He takes a big swing with his spiked glove and feels the satisfying squish when he hits the frog thing. (Cestus do 1d4 damage, Kovax ... please reroll)

The frog thing continues to thrash at the cornered gunslinger, but although the cautious warrior defends a couple blows, a bite gets through.

Razorend swipes at the air, but Ridic draws and gouges the freakish thing with his scythe, causing green ichor to explode in a gush. It shrieks inhumanly.

Kovax?

Ah, he said he'd be out of town ... just remembered that. I will bot him

Blinded by the Light Round 2

Kovax, Urgeon, Blindheim, Razorend, Ridic

Kovax takes another blind swing at the blindheim. (I know he averted last round, but I don't want to DMbot someone into a required save)

Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 86; miss
To hit: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 4 = 3; miss

Urgeon stays blind and turtled and the frog turns its attention to the scythe-wielding garbage druid causing Ridic serious harm.

Both Ridic and Razorend windmill and flail ineffectually.

Bite vs Ridic: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25; HIT!; Crit?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14; CRIT!; Damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

Round 4

Kovax swings again, but has no idea where the frog-thing is.

Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 3; no miss
To hit: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 4 = 3; miss

Urgeon stays huddled. (Let me know if you want to change tactic at all)

The blindheim continues to hop, bite and claw, taking Ridic to the floor bleeding and then smashing Kovax again. (at 3/11)

Bite vs Ridic: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24; HIT!; Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Claw vs Kovax: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11; miss

Round 5

Following Razorend's miss, Kovax punches out with renewed vigor but just can't quite land a blow.

To hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 71

He doesn't have much time to bemoan his losses as the frog creature drops him with a quick bit and then turns to slash Razorend.

Bite vs Kovax: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20; HIT!; Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Claw vs Razorend: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20; HIT!; Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Ridic collapses after Round 2, and before the round 4 barrage.

Yes, it's easy when there's less people posting ... you went down, Kam is out, and Charlie had given his instructions for the rest of the fight.

Round 5

Urgeon hears the party falling and fires a bolt missing wide.

Razorend peeks and swings finding flesh this time and gouging the aberration.

Round 6

Urgeon reloads and fires again but aims at the wrong spot.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 4 = 15
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 18

Noting Razorend glancing askance, the creature focuses it's blinding gaze on him. (Make another save, in addition to the one you make at the beginning of the round. Make two separate avert rolls)

Avert?: 1d100 ⇒ 42

Do I make a 3rd save because I didn't avert this time?

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Razorend leaps into a somersault, diving to the side of the creature and then around to its flank. On the way, he lashes out, striking from a surprising angle.

No, you only needed to make 1 save, all is good

Razorend's rolling slashing move is a thing of beauty as he passes the frog, leaving it headless behind him ... the lights of its eyes flickering on and off before going out altogether. Unfortunately, no one sees it ...

END COMBAT. This creature was way more brutal than its CR2 suggested, so I'm awarding each of you 200XP as if it were a CR3 creature

Stabilization/heal checks for the downed guys. Urgeon is blind for the next hour.

Male Human Mechanist/Savage Technologist Level 7

Damn sorry all, I picked a bad time to be out of touch

It sucks too because I totally had a post typed up on my home pc that I just didn't submit before I left that I actually had a solid hit on it with the gun...oh well

Stabilization - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Once his companions are stabilized (just need to figure what the HP total is ... no bleeding for Kovax and up to 3 for Ridic) Razorend glances around ... a cursory search of the pool reveals a man’s (woman's?) body, mostly eaten. Little remains to identify the body, since the armor and clothing have been nearly devoured. A belt pouch on the body’s hip is still intact and contains 42 gp, a silver unholy symbol of Zyphus worth 25 gp, and two water-tight potions.

Detect Magic + Spellcraft DC16:
They are potions of cure light wounds

Perception DC 15 (visual):
You spy a corner of a beach to the NW around the stream's bend, and what appears to be a boot

Knowledge Local DC15:
The thugs in the second expedition were rumored to worship Zyphus, God of accidental death ... oh, the irony.

Urgeon stumbles over to Razorend and helps binds the other's wounds.

"Let's rest here until they regain consciousness. Hopefully Ridic can provide healing once he wakes."

Once Urgeon's sight begins recovering, he detects magic on the body in the pool.

"Razorend, do you see that boot on the corner of the beach?"

Male Android Stalker 7 :: AC 22 (t17, f15) :: 53 hp

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Razorend nods, and moves up with Urgeon.

I'd you're gonna wait until Urgeon's sight comes back, someone needs to bind Ridic wounds (if he doesn't stabilize) unless you want to let him die (also an option)
