If there's nothing else ...
You revel that evening and Vhal even brings over some hot food and joins you for a single quick drink before she feels guilty and goes back to her bedside vigil.
There's a ton of food, ale, fine wine and liquer. Drink and eat as you wish and then we'll call it a day. Give me a d20 and a d100 for the morning please.
DM Fflash |
Didn't play last night ... it's next week
You settle in for the evening and fall asleep/pass out in your various locations.
Dreaming fitfully after your carousing last night, you awake in the middle of the night thinking you need water. As you blearily adjust your eyes to the darkness, you think you see something or someone hunched over your gear ... right next to you!
Not resting well, you find yourself staring off into space late into the night, only to hear a branch break outside, followed by an incredibly slow creak as the door opens. You think, based on how faint it is, that it's coming from the tavern

Sanvil whips out his longsword and casts a spell with his offhand, splitting into 5 different images of himself that all mirror his movements. He hisses a whisper at you.
"It would've been better if you'd just stayed asleep! No one would've been the wiser and I wouldn't have to silence you!"
You miss incredibly wide, but Cero's stinger flicks out and one of the images disappears.

DMFflash |
Following Sanvill's surrender, the party tied him up and interrogated him. The man, while physically powerful as a Kellid, was fearful for his life and was more than forthcoming with information.
He is apparently a Technic League agent sent abroad as a merchant to find undiscovered technological ruins. Technology being the term for the wondrous things that seem magical but radiate no magic that you could find. The doors, keys, flashlight, window screens with images etc.
He is currently out of favor with his superiors having not come across anything significant in several years. The sadistic leaders of the Technic League put new meaning to the "up or out" promotion system.
When he heard of the Torch going out and the subsequent discovery of ruins under the town, he knew the city was sitting on a tech gold mine and was looking for a way to quickly capitalize on it before other Technic League agents catch wind of the Torch going out (likely when the Council fails to pay their tithe) and the place swarms with those other agents.
He was rifling through Urgeon's pack looking for notes and the pass cards to press ahead himself or even follow you the next day, but you caught him in the act.
When assessing his rather extensive gear, you discovered the Technic League pin, the skillslot in his head with the chip (still installed) and a scrap of paper that had your names, Khonnir's, and Garmen Ulreth's. Next to Garmen Ulreth was a note that said "Warehouse."
When asked about the list, he noted that this was info only he had and offered to exchange it for your promise not to turn him over and let him return to being a merchant. He also promised to several ties with the Technic League and would ID his Captain that he reports to.
He noted that the information he has isn't something he thought was necessary for the league to pursue but he was fairly certain the town would be interested in it for their own future and safety.
Note everyone received 200 xp from the fight. Loot is in Discussion
You may continue the interrogation from this point.

Urgeon Porpentine |
Urgeon punches Sanvill in the face. "You're done in this town. You'll tell us what you know because if you don't we'll kill you right now. Who are you working for and what does Garmen Ulreth and the warehouse have to do with Torch?"
Intimidate: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Ridic Slaranack |
No need to beat on him, he has been singing like a canary. He is holding one piece of information so that he can cut a deal, but he will give it to us. He just wants to be released and not brought to the authorities.
DMFflash |
Urgeon punch damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Urgeon crushes the big man in the face but he turns just slightly and it scuffs off the side of his jaw.
Sanvill spits out blood, "Look, the only thing preventing you from killing me is that I have info you want. If I give it to you without being let free, you'll kill me where I sit."

Kovax Exner |
Kovax will step in and stop any other punches from being thrown, "Enough, there is no reason for this, he is already willing to tell us what he knows, and has told us his requirements for this information, he lives and we don't turn him in to the authorities, this isn't an unfair request."
"Let us not forget that his serum did save Khonnir's life, I am inclined to let him live for the info and for that alone," Looking at Sanvill, "I will be telling Khonnir about your deception, and he will be keeping a close eye on you, I am sure, since we will be exploring the ruins, someone will need to watch you, don't think that if you break your promise to us to have nothing more to do with the Techna-league that he won't turn you in."
"But if your info truly is life or death for this town, I don't see how we can not accept your offer, but understand, that if we do accept it, in the future, anything we want to know about the Techa-League, their leaders, the location you went to meet with them you will tell us all of it, with no hesitation."
Kovax votes for letting him live
DMFflash |
"Let's be honest, they don't care about you. There's nothing for me to gain by doing that. I've lost any opportunity to regain favor with them. I'm more likely to be removed for failure than anything else. I'd rather not see them again, if possible ... there is no making a deal with them."

Urgeon Porpentine |
Urgeon shrugs his shoulders as he flexes his bruised knuckles, "The city elders will know how to deal with him. I see no reason not to turn him over to the authorities. If he holds some secret, they have better methods of compelling him than us. Clearly he cannot be trusted with his freedom. I will not risk him betraying us again."
Razorend |
"I don't know..." Razorend shakes his head and lets out a heavy sigh. "I'm more inclined to parole him than hand him over to the so-called 'authorities'. They're as likely in the Technic League's pockets as he is... or was. I don't trust him, but any info he has on their chain of command and methods could give us an advantage to avoid... or sabotage them, when they come to Torch."
Urgeon Porpentine |
"And you'll assist us wherever you can with any tech we find and with dealing with the Technic League."
Urgeon then sighs and releases Sanvil from his bonds, "You're free. Now, tell us what you know. Who are you working for and what does Garmen Ulreth and the warehouse have to do with Torch?"
Sanvil Trett *NPC* |
Sanvil glances wistfully for a moment at his sword and then shakes his head slightly and sighs, "So, this town has suspected Garmen Ulreth of shady dealings. I, know, he is in fact pretty much the arbitrator of all major crime in the area and has been undermining the city's economic efforts for quite some time. He's fed info to agents of the League to let them know when to raise the tithe. He has a crew of his thugs up to something in an old warehouse on the east side of Black Hill. He's been quite cagey about associating himself with the warehouse and I suspect there's evidence of his work with the League agents and his criminal activity. I sense he's getting bored with the city and will milk it to extinction before he departs."
Sanvil looks surprised at Razorend's question, "Why yes, actually, the first time I overheard him having a conversation about the warehouse was in an alley with a hooded woman. She had purple hair poking out of her hood. It almost glowed with a light of its own ... it may have been the moonlight. There was something ... cold about her."
Urgeon Porpentine |
Urgeon frowns, "If this is true, Garmen must be stopped."
He turns back to the others, "Let's try to get some rest. I say we investigate the warehouse as soon as we've fully recovered."
Urgeon dismisses Sanvil with a sneer, "Be gone, dog. Come back to your masters when we call."
Ridic Slaranack |
Ummm. We can not let him leave now. He can warn them and it could all disappear before we are rested and can check it out.
"Hold on everyone. While this is good information, we also know that Sanvil has no loyalty to us at this time. He is fighting for his survival. We have no way of knowing if he is going to go running to Garmen and informing on us. Have a seat Sanvil while we figure this out"
I think we need to have him locked up someplace at least until we can verify his story.
Sanvil Trett *NPC* |
Garmen Ulreth is the owner of the Silverdisk Hall. He sent an invite to you to come play for free. You talked to him for about 15 seconds and he left through a guarded door. A quick thread search with his name will give you more info, as will the Torch Legend on Roll 20 under the Silverdisk Hall entry
"You are going to renege on our agreement?!" Sanvil does his very best not to let anger overtake him, but you sense it rising. He does not sit down. You are suddenly aware that he is a really big man.
Kovax Exner |
With a calming gesture Kovax tries to settle everyone down, "No one said anything about reneging," glancing at everyone, "We have agreed that he is free to go, in return he has said he will assist us and not go back to the techni-league, I don't think he is going to run to Garmen either as Sanvil's fate is now tied to this towns success, but if he does, there is nothing we can do at this time to stop him, we will deal with that if it ever comes up"
Glacing at Sanvil, "You know we have to tell Khonnir about you, you attacked us here on his property and in truth, put his daughter at risk, he is going to want to know everything, and frankly, I think he is entitled to know. But he is a fair man, and the info you have given is valuable and you also did save his life, but I can not promise what he may or may not do, but I will speak to him on your behalf and we will see what happens from there."
Ridic Slaranack |
This will be a strategic error. We said we would let him go, and we can, but after we check out his story. This could be a foolish and expensive mistake, and for what....our word to a backstabbing criminal?
No, we should leave him tied up and check out this story and release him once he can do us, or the situation no harm.
Kovax Exner |
I don't think he can do any more harm, we have stripped him of everything he owns, at the very least, it will take him some time to cause any mischief and we honestly right now have bigger things to worry about then him. Either he will leave town, in which case so be it, or he will run to Garmen and make a deal but either way if Garmen is doing what he says he is doing we are going to have to go after him at some point in time anyway, and I am willing to bet he is already fairly prepared to deal with any problems, knowing in advanced, if Sanvil does run to him, isn't going to change anything. Garmen has already shown interest in us, so it's not like we are going to surprise him. Or lastly, Sanvil is being honest with us, will assist us moving forward and give us info when requested.
2 out of 3 of the options are good for us, and the bad option is more than likely going to not change the way things shape out anyway, I am willing to just let him go and see what happens
Urgeon Porpentine |
Urgeon shrugs, "If we don't trust him, then turn him over to the City Council. I'm only going along with his release because I thought that was what the rest of you wanted."
